We've taken delivery of a fine new sofa. Come and rest here

I asked him when we watched Mock The Week - he was absolutely blank. He lives in a world of his own, bless 'im. My friend's teeny lover, who's a year younger than TYF, gets most of her/our olde-tyme cultural refs, so I think it's just TYF. I blame his parents for everything in general for being deeply uncool.

PS, where are these pics? FB? I'm on the case...

Bessie123 · 24/08/2009 11:46

Good morning, beshes [monday morning punch]

Cheggs - big congrats and little

Scorpette - my friend ttc for 5 years and managed it at 41. She has a completely gorgeous little boy now. So you are not too old.

CurlyCasper · 24/08/2009 11:52

Gave up on embarrassment a long time ago, me. No shame whatsoever here.

Scorpette · 24/08/2009 12:02

Thanks Bessie Don't think I could stay sane through 5 looooong YEARS of TTC. Doubt I could stay sane through 5 months, but we'll see...

PS YAY for your friend!

Bessie123 · 24/08/2009 12:04

big HEH @ 'sane'

You'd best hurry up and get updiffed then, Scorpette

oh, genuinely, I hear ice cream helps you get updiffed. But I can't work out why.

skihorse · 24/08/2009 12:13

Scorpette This is deeply unbelievably un-PC - but have you done the Joey Deacon face and hands at TYF? jailbait looked him up on wikipedia and was absolutely astonished and disgusted that millions of children across the land ripped the piss out of an old man on Blue Peter.

Bessie Thanks for the heads up on 4 years 2 months more madness.

skihorse · 24/08/2009 12:14

Bessie If the ice-cream bit were true I'd have scored that elusive BFP last November. There are two things in my diet which are consistent - guilt and Ben & Jerrys.

VeryAngryGusset · 24/08/2009 12:22

Hola, lushes! Greetings newbies!

chEGGS - wooohhoooooooo! - good work!

Apparently full-fat milk is better for conception than low-fat milk & this goes for dairy products in general. Keep meaning to switch to full-fat milk on cereal, but keep forgetting. Ditto drinking grapefruit juice at key times and necking cough mixture. I did have a go one month but I wasn't really sure when I was ov-ing anyway so all a bit wasted.

Scorpette · 24/08/2009 12:22

Oh yeah, Ski, I've taught him all about Joey Deacon. His fave Uncle (RIP) has Down's and his family are remarkably un-PC regarding anything to do with any sort of disability (I know Joey D wasn't Down's). I still automatically do the Joey Deacon face at people being thick and then feel really guilty.

I try and teach TYF all sorts of proper cultural references. Unfortunately, I also unthinkingly make jokes/make references/sing stuff that would make someone our age laugh, whereas he just looks at me gone out. Although not pityingly, like my aforementioned mate's jailbait when we tried to teach him the dance to 'Whip it' by Devo.

When did we become the uncool ones?

VeryAngryGusset · 24/08/2009 12:25

ps NEWSFLASH!

I finally felt longing for a baby! - yay me!

Course, now I'm as depressed as Scorpy as I still do not believe this will ever happen. TSF (the short fellow aka DH) was a bit stunned when I suddenly blurted out "I really want one! I do!" as he'd thought I wasn't too bothered.

I need a Plan B in case it doesn't work. Any suggestions? Thinking some sort of massive lifestyle change/moving abroad/committing self to good works. But it has to have en suite accomodation.

idealcamel · 24/08/2009 12:25

Hello again Remember me? I went away for two weeks - just two weeks FFS - and there have been almost eight hundred posts in this gorgeous new room. Can someone catch me up with the gossip, pliz?

I have been to my happy place (aka France) eaten pretty much an entire ocean of shellfish and drunk boozes everyday, inadvertently reigniting my love of pastis. Mmm. Aniseed-y goodness. Although we have been shagging the good shag, I suspect such hedonistic self-indulgence puts me firmly out of the game this month. But damn, it was worth it.

VeryAngryGusset · 24/08/2009 12:27

Scorpy - if we're the uncool ones we're def ready for parenthood.

Scorpette · 24/08/2009 12:28

If ice-cream and milk help conception then I'm fucked, cos I'm allergic to dairy products and can't eat sugar. Yes, I can't and don't eat any sugar (I may have already said this, apologies). Please come polish my martyr's halo. I also hate grapefruit juice.

I have an image of VAG mixing up a smoothie consisting of ice-cream, gold top milk, grapefruit juice and robitussin. Now THERE'S a drink to sort the women from the girls! . Add some gin and I think we have our very own besoke BESH cocktail.

I'm not at work today - can you tell?

Scorpette · 24/08/2009 12:30

PS VAG, I have decided to think positively.

For this hour, at least.

My Plan B is a straightjacket/stockpile of paracetamol.

Scorpette · 24/08/2009 12:31

PPS Hellllooooooo ideal! Course we remember you! (who is she again?)

VeryAngryGusset · 24/08/2009 12:35

Lol @ Scorpy's cocktail.

skihorse · 24/08/2009 12:37

Plan B? Keep longwee close to your chest so we have access to orphans for 100 quid a pop right?

VAG oooer, what turned you?

wb camel - of course you're diffed, that way you'll be able to spend 8 months berating yourself for the cheese & pasti.

Holy smokes! One of my colleagues had her last day on Friday before maternity leave - baby was due 27th September - she's had it this morning! Apparently everyone is healthy - but that's not much time waiting at home to give birth is it? Although I've heard this is the best way - rather than spending a further 4 weeks on your arse getting fatter & more miserable.

laurielou · 24/08/2009 12:53

Wow, what happened? And how did it happen? I have mad moments of "aahhhh it would be nice" but far more prolonged moments of "Dear God, who the hell would want kids?"

LOL at Joey D inappropriatness (is that a word?) My brother & I wound my sister - Jo - up for years doing impressions. Have to admit when we play squash now & she hits a stupid shot I still do it to her.

ski that's amazing for your colleague - although if my baby appears on any other day than the one its due I'm going to be quite pissed off at him / her. I don't like surprises.

laurielou · 24/08/2009 12:54

Oh, ice-cream helps up-diffness? Marvellous - me & the boyf polished off a tub of Ben & Jeery's Phish Food last night, then SWI for good luck. Gotta be twins now, right?

laurielou · 24/08/2009 12:55

Jerry's. Got a little over-excited there.

skihorse · 24/08/2009 12:58

hmmmmn phish food

skihorse · 24/08/2009 13:02

Do not "friend" idealcamel, if that is her real name! She's beautiful and intelligent. Grrrr.
