Am I still pregnant? Or chemical?

Last week I had light bleeding which I thought was my period starting. It was only when wiping for a few days. (Weds/ thurs)

On Monday I tested positive on a CB early digital 🥳

By Tuesday I was spotting again! Only light again, lasted less than 24 hours.
In my last pregnancy I had no bleeding so I don't have experience of any of this.

Wednesday I got '1-2 weeks pregnant'
I have done a few cheapies since and they seem light for around 20DPO, pic attached. The dates can't be that wrong because I track ovulation and sex.

Am I still pregnant? Should I test again? Will tests still show positive if Iv had a chemical?
Should I ask my doctor to do bloods? When will my period come if I have miscarried?

Am I still pregnant? Or chemical?

@justpeachy1234 I do have to agree with you that the test looks a bit light for how far along you should be. I recommend you keep testing and see if it starts to fade or get darker. The tests do take a bit of time after a miscarriage to read negative.

justpeachy1234 · 26/04/2024 23:08

@emmatcc1 yeah I would expect it to be darker by now. They have stayed the same for a few days now.

I might wait until weds and see if it goes 2-3 weeks. If it stays at 1-2 weeks il have my answer.

If it doesn't progress but I don't get my period, what do I do? Will it pass naturally this early?

OP posts:
bomi · 26/04/2024 23:12

I would keep testing.
I had a fair few chemical pregnancies and the lines faded pretty quickly.

If it is a chemical pregnancy, you don't need to do anything as it will just be like a normal period.

Fingers crossed for you x

emmatcc1 · 26/04/2024 23:31

@justpeachy1234 Every pregnancy will pass naturally if given enough time. In your case if you end up having a chemical you will most likely get a period soon. If you’re concerned and don’t feel comfortable waiting you can contact your doctor and go from there.

justpeachy1234 · 26/04/2024 23:57

@bomi

Sorry to hear of your losses.
How quickly did they turn negative? In a few days?

It's so confusing. I'm not sure if the tests look pregnant enough but Iv not had enough bleeding to be 100% sure that Iv had a miscarriage

OP posts:
justpeachy1234 · 26/04/2024 23:59

@emmatcc1 okay, thanks.

I just want to know one way or another. The unknown is stressful. I can't help but feel hopeful although realistically I know it doesn't look good

OP posts:
emmatcc1 · 27/04/2024 00:28

@justpeachy1234 If you only had spotting then that’s definitely not enough blood to indicate a pregnancy has passed. It’s also normal to have light bleeding in pregnancy, I personally know two women who had it. I know how awful it is waiting and hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

justpeachy1234 · 27/04/2024 07:56

I did a test with FMU just now and still says '1-2 weeks' I'm confident that it's not progressing based on my dates. And my tests are still very light.
How will my GP confirm? If it's not happening I just want to sort it out asap

OP posts:
emmatcc1 · 27/04/2024 11:05

@justpeachy1234 You should be sent for an ultrasound and then another repeat ultrasound in a week to confirm it’s not progressing. But with such early pregnancy it will probably already pass by the time you get a second scan.
How far along should you be now?

Bluebella27 · 27/04/2024 11:49

I had a chemical and I just kept testing until I think I was 4 days late when the line was getting fainter and fainter then my period came on.
I'm pretty sure the GP will say for you to wait a few more days
But any pain or any worries call the doctor because there could be a chance of ectopic..
sorry this is happening to you, the waiting part is the worst xx

Nbaby · 27/04/2024 12:06

I had a chemical and bled at 5+1. My tests showed a very very faint line that morning and I done a digital in the afternoon that came back not pregnant and as I wiped there was blood and bled like a normal period for 3 days.
I wouldn’t worry about digital tests to much they can be out I always allowed 3/4 days extra for progression

TheShellBeach · 27/04/2024 12:14

If this is a chemical pregnancy you don't need to see your GP.
You'll bleed at about the five week mark. It'll be like a heavy period.

But when was your last proper period? This may be a viable pregnancy, which implanted late. The spotting might be implantation.

Can you get a FRER?

justpeachy1234 · 27/04/2024 12:30

@emmatcc1

I think about 6 weeks now. None of the dates add up unfortunately

OP posts:
justpeachy1234 · 27/04/2024 12:34

@Bluebella27

My period was due over 2 weeks ago. I didn't test until about a week late as I had very light spotting when I was due. My period never came and I just had a few days of pale pink on the tissue when I wiped.
I expect it to be 2-3 week by that point but it's just stayed at 1-2

OP posts:
curliegirlie · 27/04/2024 12:36

I'm so sorry this is so stressful. Do you know for definite when you ovulated this cycle?

justpeachy1234 · 27/04/2024 12:37

@Nbaby
Thanks for sharing your story. I should be about 6 weeks by now but all Iv had is light bleeding when I wipe.
Annoyingly I feel pregnancy symptoms. Iv been feeling sick, sore boobs, tired etc. but maybe it's just wishful thinking!

Did your cycles return to normal after?

OP posts:
justpeachy1234 · 27/04/2024 12:43

Yeah I'm quite confident. These were from this month. I'm on CD43 🤷🏻‍♀️

Am I still pregnant? Or chemical?

Dates not adding up and the light tests/no progression could also mean ectopic. Are you having any aches/pains in 1 side?

Babynamechange111 · 27/04/2024 12:45

Hello @justpeachy1234 I'd ask your GP for blood tests. You'd need 2 tests, 48hrs apart. This will show what your HCG is doing.

If your home tests are still coming up as faint positives and you're spotting rather than bleeding heavily, I'd recommend the blood tests to help rule out an ectopic pregnancy.

Sorry, I don't mean to scare you. It's an unlikely scenario, I'm just suggesting it as a precaution based on my own experience of having an ectopic. My tests didn't progress and I had spotting on and off.

Edited to add that I didn't really have much pain, just the odd twinge that later turned into a dull ache

Good luck 🤞🏼 xx

Nbaby · 27/04/2024 13:01

@justpeachy1234 sorry your going through this it can be all very confusing
yes I ovulated exactly 2 weeks later. Period arrive 2 weeks after and now I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant.
I would try reach out to your gp(don’t think they’ll do much) but try your epu or maybe consider a private scan? They should bring you in if your 6 weeks especially to rule out an ectopic ( probably unlikely) but be safer knowing as I’ve read that hcg slowly creeps up rather than doubles etc.
I know how difficult the not knowing is it’s awful hope you get answers soon

emmatcc1 · 27/04/2024 13:06

@justpeachy1234 If you should be 6 weeks by now then this is not a chemical anymore and definitely worth calling someone to evaluate your situation. My friend’s pregnancy stopped developing at 4-5 weeks and didn’t pass until she was 10weeks.

TheShellBeach · 27/04/2024 13:07

Chemical pregnancies end between four and five weeks gestation.

As you're six weeks, you do need a doctor's assessment.

justpeachy1234 · 27/04/2024 13:58

@ThatBloatIsBloating

No pain at all. I have previously had a molar miscarriage, but I believe that shows very high HCG so I don't that it's that.

Iv decided to book a private scan this afternoon to confirm it's not viable. Iv driving my self mad wondering what's going on!

OP posts:
justpeachy1234 · 27/04/2024 14:00

@Nbaby

Iv booked a private scan this afternoon to confirm. I'm 99% sure it's not viable. But with possible tests and no real bleeding it's really confusing.
I just want someone to confirm so I don't drive myself mad!

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 27/04/2024 14:03

I'll be thinking of you. I hope you get positive news at the scan today.
