Lurking on this thread now that AF has arrived a day early!! Going to take a break this month but also going to try OPKs to get my head round it all and what ovulation looks like. Do I start using them with AF done?

@SummerSun24 yea usually you would start maybe around day 9/10? If you've never used them before and are unsure when you've ovulated I'd recommend starting a day or two after your period and test twice a day, like 11am and 6pm? You'll get the swing of it, but you could be surprised when you ovulate! When I started tracking before I got pregnant with my son I discovered I ovulated round day 10/11, and I have a long period (at that stage 6/7 days)

Charlotteaanne · 17/04/2024 14:33

I'm now on day 10 Dpo. Promised not to test in this month TWW as stresses me out . Just monitoring by BBT, did see a dip on day 9 which could have been implantation but no bleed though did have cramps.
Not feeling any symptoms but boobs seem weighty (normally happens for me around ovulation).
2 days until AF is due but BBT has started dropping so thinking unlikely.

This is my first time tracking more details and my tips are.
Premom free version is fab!! No sticking strips in books 🤣

BBT must be am as soon as you open your eyes stick it in your mouth.
(Great way to avoid pregnancy test mania in the TTW and possibly helps set expectations)

OPK is between 10am and 5pm (struggled to see peak even testing 2 a day once it got higher but not quite matching)

Anyone else DPO 10

Anyone who experienced pregnancy before, did you vibe or have any symptoms on the TWW

SummerSun24 · 17/04/2024 15:15

Yeah app is a bit random. @Daniki and my periods are on the longer side so think it's definitely worth using them! With a LO about there's only souch opportunity you get so need to make the most of it!

maybemumtobe · 17/04/2024 15:43

We’re in a very similar position. Also been trying for around 6m and had an (early) loss in Dec. Let’s hold onto the fact that a) we luckily know we can get pregnant and b) we are blessed to have our amazing children already.

I tend to agree about opks. This was my first month of properly using them and I have become more obsessive than ever before. Personally will avoid from now on and look for ewcm which is proven to be very reliable.

Keep me posted on how you get on this cycle. If no luck, we can cheer each other on next month too! X

I’ve been looking at the logistics of getting a new job while TTC (cos mine is awfully stressful) and I have an interview but I’ve just read that I wouldn’t be entitled to any company maternity benefits until I’ve been there for 6 months 😔 why do companies do that!?

So does that mean I’d be on statutory maternity pay? And is it really only £184 per week? That would only be £700ish a month which wouldn’t even cover my half of the mortgage payment, let alone anything else. Have I got that amount right? How on earth do people survive on statutory maternity pay?

My company is the same. 6 months probation period and then I get their maternity package. I have only just begun TTC (first month) and only have 3/4 months until I get the benefit.

My understanding was that I would have done 6 months service before I take maternity leave (which if this month is successful, would be in December/january so would mean I would have been there for around 10 months by then) so I would get the benefit? Not sure if it works like that but that's what I've assumed 😂

Marie1990x · 17/04/2024 19:32

@LK2610 I think you would still be eligible if it’s 6 months? Obviously depending on when a start date would be. Agree with @GreenPickle my understanding would be the same.

I’ve just started a new job a couple of months ago and was thinking the same, but then thought if other people can cope then surely it’s doable.

Anyone that does OPK’s - does this look high (obviously not peak, but high as the app suggested)? It’s a bit earlier than usual, which would be great, but feeling skeptical

Ohhh I see! That’s slightly better then. I’m still struggling to wrap my head around it.

Looks like it’s on the way to being high @Marie1990x id be testing twice tomorrow if I got that today x

Sorry to hear about your loss too. Yes, we’re very lucky to have gotten pregnant and have our little ones already 🥰

I rely on EWCM too, it’s worked doing it that way twice before so who’s to say it won’t next time!

I’ll keep you posted on how things go over the rest of this cycle! X

I’ve been trying to figure out what the best thing to do is with moving jobs. I could get a decent pay rise if moved companies but could only get stat mat pay as you need to be at most places for a year before you get enhanced mat pay and we couldn’t afford to live off the £600 a month, especially as I get 6 months full pay where I am now.

When I was on maternity leave last time, we just saved enough to cover the 3 months of statutory maternity pay and then the 3 months unpaid (also worth remembering your last 3 months will always be unpaid, which is a killer!)

I would double check as with my company, and a few others I’ve looked into, you qualify for enhanced mat pay if you have been there a certain number of weeks before the expected childbirth week.

Wow think yourselves lucky. I work for a big national company and to be entitled to full maternity pay you have to work there for 2 YEARS!!! I have long since qualified for that, but I thought that was pretty standard! Now I think they are right right buggers!

I know everyone is different but I have been using the exact same OPKs this month and had my peak early yesterday afternoon (by 6pm when I did a second test it was a lot lighter). My ‘Peak’ test was really dark. Much darker than the one you have and my lower test I did in the evening looked similar to yours. That being said everyone is different so yours may not show up as dark as mine and if you’ve drunk alot beforehand it could dilute your sample. I would probably test a couple
times a day though from now, I couldn’t believe how quickly mine peaked and then dropped off a cliff and I almost didn’t bother doing the afternoon test as I was so busy at work. Have you got the Premom app? I’ve found it really useful as it tells you the levels so you can tell the difference between the strips.

I’ve put a picture of mine on here so you can see what mine looked like.

Hi all, I’m a bit late to the thread, can I please join? Currently on Cycle day 5- TTC no 2, wishing for BFPS for everyone this month c

Marie1990x · 18/04/2024 06:39

@satsumaqueen I did another one a few hours later just to check and it was pretty much the same as the previous one. Will check twice today and see what comes up 😊.
Yeah the Premom app came back more or less the same as Flo, hasn’t changed my predicted ovulation though (says 22nd). We will see what happens the next few days. Last month I had a really long cycle so hoping that doesn’t happen this time 🤞🏻

CapricornDiaries5194 · 18/04/2024 10:21

Cycle day 2 Joining in for new year baby. Good Luck Everyone🤗

LK2610 · 18/04/2024 10:25

We’re in exactly the same boat @Firsttimetrier

YaWeeFurryBastard · 18/04/2024 16:37

My OPKs have started rising so assuming I’ll get my peak tomorrow and ovulate Saturday, then just the dreaded TWW 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Marie1990x · 18/04/2024 16:53

@YaWeeFurryBastard its hard enough waiting for a peak let alone the TWW 😂.

My OPK’s are rising too so hoping get a peak in the next few days 🤞🏻. Thankfully we’re actually away for a week in the middle of what will likely be my TWW, so hopefully that will keep me distracted. I’ll probably still taken some cheapies with me knowing what I’m like 😂

Firsttimetrier · 18/04/2024 17:11

I’ve never tested with OPKs and always gone by EWCM and the Flo app, but getting a lot of ovulation pain last night and this morning.

We’ve tried to cover all bases by DTD the last few days (DH is over the moon 😂), but will try and get to it today to make sure we’ve done as much as we can!

Kirkikins · 19/04/2024 05:13

Hi guys
I'm hoping over from the Dec thread - AF arrived on Sunday and I took a few days off the Internet whilst I let my brain really process things. I'm now CD5, but since I have very irregular cycles there's no way of knowing if I even have a chance of a Jan baby. My last cycle I got my peak on CD147.

TTC #2 at 33. Been 'seeing if it happens' since 2021 and actively trying since Oct 22 . Unlike a lot of people I was expecting a weight as it took over 4 years to get pregnant with #1 and I know I have quite bad PCOS but now I'm starting to worry about the age gap and certain things are making me really sad. Someone I know said their child stopped believing in Santa at 8 and my daughter is 6 so I'm like what if I never get a Christmas with both my kids excited for Santa! Sounds so silly but it's the silly things that are affecting me most at the moment. Delilah has a 9 month old cousin and she's desperate for a sibling! I'm desperate to give her one.

Even though I've always been the issue we have ordered my husband an at home sperm test to try just to make sure everything is still okay in that dept. Even if I dont get a chance this month I figured I'd come keep an eye on everyone else and try and help cheer you all on .
