Icsi ivf may 2024

Hi ladies I thought I'd create this thread to support anyone doing ivf in May 2024, it's great to have other people to talk to going ture the same thing!
My background I'm 31 with low AMH of 3, suffering from secondary infertility 2.5 years ttc had a failed IVF cycle in February where my 4 mature eggs just failed to fertilized so we have been advised to do ICSI for our next cycle! I decided to give my body a break and get back into end of April/may depending on how my cycle returns:)

Ok, that makes me feel better, it seemed everyone was getting scanned on day 6-7 etc. @hopefullsosbry My AMH is 7.smth (1.1 ng/mL), but that was checked more than a year ago tho.

Yeh I was day 8 (yesterday) wasn’t 1st scan also .. another tomorrow .. hopefully my right ovary starts producing some 🤞🏽

Hi girls I would like to join too ! I’m on day 10 on stims and going for my last scan tomorrow and hopefully trigger wednesday and egg collection on Friday whoop !
I had 17 follicles on right side and 15 on left , but I think about 10 have been growing nicely in sizes , that was on Monday , so Wednesday another scan so let’s hope the 14-17 mm are now 20! Today should be my last injectionS which takes me to day 10 ! Good luck ladies xx

@Ilovebees hi.. welcome to the group .. that’s amazing, good numbers of follicles .. best of luck with your scan tomorrow , I have my 2nd scan tomorrow .. won’t be long for you until EC ! Will you be doing a fresh transfer ?

@hopefullsosbry hey lovely ! I wish I could do fresh cycle but I think I might have too many follicles which means risk of OHSS? I think they won’t let me in my opinion , I have had one egg collection 2 years ago and I also got mild OHSS, and didn’t get fresh trasfer , so I think it’s looking similar this time , I really don’t know if it depends on how many eggs you get or how many follicles you have !
what day is your 2nd scan of the stims ? Is it like day 8? Xx

Hi @Ilovebees sounds great. I think they opt for a freeze all if you get lots of follicles as these fill up with fluid and that causes OHSS. That's what I think but not an expert by any means!

I have ended up with 2 embryos in the freezer - one 8-cell day 3 embryo and one 4CC blastocyst. Apparently they might thaw my day 3 embryo to see if it makes it to a day 5 blast. I've found the calls from the embryologists at my clinic pretty awful tbh they've been very unhelpful. The calls last approx 1 min, they just want to get off the phone ASAP. Interested to see how yours go as it's really put me off my clinic tbh. Hope you have a better experience (I'm sure you will). I have a follow-up with my nurse on Friday to discuss next steps with my FET.

@Lcm11 aww thanks for explaining , it does make sense to be fair , lots of follicles = ohhs , fluid !
ok so you got 2 embryos , great ! Can I ask why didn’t they let the day 3 embryo get to day 5 in the first place ? Like why did they freeze it at day 3 ? Was this your choice ? Personally I would also thaw this day 3 embryo to see if it gets to blastocyst because I suppose if it doesn’t then it wouldn’t do so inside you either ?! Or am I wrong ? Maybe better environment inside the body and it would make it inside but not in a lab ?
did you also get ohhs ? Is that why you doing FET now ? Xx or did you trasfer fresh and it didn’t work and now fet ? Xx

@Ilovebees tomorrow will be day 10 of stims and is my 2 scan .. had my first on day 8 of stims (Monday) they think I’ll also have a scan on Friday and EC on Monday next week.

I'm with abc IVF and my procedures are being done at Create Fertility. I'm still confused but I think they freeze the best embryo on day 3 and if you end up with a day 5/6 backup blastocyst, they thaw and culture the day 3 embryo to day 5, but if you don't end up with a backup blastocyst, they thaw the day 3 and transfer on your FET. Does that make sense to anyone else? It hasn't been explained very well as the calls with the embryologists were so brief.

Yes I was at risk of OHSS as I have PCOS, high AFC & AMH and had about 30+ follicles during stims. They gave me a non-HCG trigger as apparently that can help prevent OHSS. Also injected cetrotode and blood thinners for 5 days after EC to help prevent it. I've not had any symptoms of OHSS so it must have worked. X

@hopefullsosbry oh wow your day 10 tomorrow I will be day 11 ! So about the same ! I think I will do my trigger tomorrow as planned , which means I staimmed for 10 days total as planned form the beginning ! Actually the last 2 days they reduced my dose so I think that means then eggs should be near enough ready tomorrow for trigger .
@hopefullsosbry how many days are you planning to stim ? Could tomorrow be your last stims if all well ? I’m starting to feel a bit uncomftable from today . My job is physical so I feel it more when turning twisting .

@Lcm11 yes it makes perfect sense from what you said ! They want to save the best day 3 embryo just incase the second one doesn’t get to day 5 so at least you’ll have day 3 one already secured to trasfer . But I still wonder why they just don’t let both get to day 5 , I mean if the best day 3 failed on day 5 , wouldn’t it fail after trasfer anyways inside the body ? I think I would feel more comftable knowing it’s already day 5 in a lab instead of wondering if it got past day 3 inside my body ? Do you know what I mean ? But let’s hope they thaw it and you never know it might turn out perfect blast :) if they decide to do that ! X

@Ilovebees they have said I’ll probably be on them until Friday as I had 1 folicle at 14mm and 6 under 10mm so they will look tomorrow but said I prob will need to keep going until Friday they will do another scan .. and EC Monday .. but my right ovary isn’t doing anything .. these follicles are all from my left .. it’s not responding for sone reason ? It did the last time so I dunno why it not this time .. ? But seeminly eggs from the right ovary have higher success rates than from the left .. so it’s not looking too good 🤨

Unless my right ovary picks up in the next few days ??? Fingers crossed 🤞🏽

@hopefullsosbry awww I see ! So you have 6 under 10mm which means that they want these 6 to be the main runners who make the eggs , the 14 mm might run away by the time the 10mm are ready ? Hopefully not ! Let’s hope and good luck for the scan ! Hopefully they have all evened out in sizes with the 14 mm . They say that follicles grow 1.5-2mm a day . I have a scan today too to see if I trigger tonight for Fridays collection . Can I ask how old you are ? I am 32 and possibly have borderline mild pcos . I guess that’s why I have so many follicles , which maybe isn’t a good things because I will have to wait for fresh trasfer which I so desperately want and never get 😄😝:(

@Ilovebees yes that’s right , the 14mm will be gone no doubt by the time I EC .. not sure if the lead folicle has higher success rates than later to ripen follicles , I think there is conflicting research on this .. but I’ll just get what I get and have to hope for the best .. I am 41 now .. and partner 43 so we are both old 🥴old eggs and sperm🙈 .. been ttc since 36, had two natural conception loses and 3 Loses through last ivf round .. ah fingers crossed for you that you get afresh round .. I have heard drinking lots of electrolytes help ease ohss.. drinking lucazade sports helps someone else and she didn’t get to bad with it ? Maybes check with yoor nurse today if she recommends that ? Best of luck for your scan today also .. I’ll keep you all posted how it goes.. pray for right ovary activity for me haha 🤞🏽🙏

yes I’ll be drinking sports drinks after egg collection and I also heard coconut water is good too ! So I’ll be buying that .
and I’m praying that your right ovary is catching up a bit too ! I was just thinking that if your right ovary catches up , wouldn’t the follicles be very small compared to the others that have grown already ? Would they be left behind regardless even if they have started to grow now because they’ll be a lot smaller than the leading ones you have at the moment ( the 6) on the left ? Sorry if I sound so negative , but trust me I’m not , I’m just thinking realistically 😘like my head is thinking about 100’s of things like what ifs 😝I guess I try to guess the outcome before it’s proven to lessen the blow of dissapointment :)

@hopefullsosbry and I’m sorry to read about your losses , this is absolutely heartbreaking ! I have had 7 losses myself around 6 week ish . So I know how you must feel , I had 5 natural losses and 2 ivf . I have recurrent misscarrige diagnosis , unexplained as nothing can be seen wrong including chromosome testing and bloods and scans . But this time I’m on steroids , just incase it’s immune related , which is something I have never tried before . So here is to me , waiting on my first ever baby ! Do you have any kids ? X

@Ilovebees @hopefullsosbry Oh my, that’s so heartbreaking! I couldn’t even begin to imagine how hard that has all been. I’m extra 👉👈for you now (I mean fingers crosses but I can’t find it)

@Ilovebees yeh I was thinking the exact same .. they would need to have started to do something yesterday for it to be any impact ?? Will soon see as waiting on my scan now.

Awh I am really sorry to here you have so many loses .. you are a strong woman to still be going through this and trying again. It must be frustrating for you with unexplained, I wonder why they prescribed you steroids , are they to help stimulate ovaries ?

@hopefullsosbry from what I know steroids are to suppress the immune system, in case there are doubts it is rejecting or attacking the embrio.

Hi everyone , I went for my scan and all is looking well , trigger tonight and egg collection on Friday morning 8 am . She said I have lots of follicles and eggys but I got confused to ask if she means the actual egg or just the follicles ! So I will see on Friday ) and I asked about the fresh trasfer and she said she will let me know on Friday after egg collection as they wouldn’t know before the procedure , it depends how my body reacts after collecting the eggs . But she said if it’s definite NO then they will say that same day on Friday so I won’t get my hopes up thinking I’ll have the transfer on Wednesday , I’d rather know straight away yes or no . But yes I don’t belive myself how strong and resilient I am after so many losses , but I guess I got to keep going and hoping because I feel I’m too young to give you my dream . And yes steroids are just incase my body has immune problems and is trying to attack the embryo , thinking it’s a foreign body . @Lcm11 I was at ABC/ create for my previous cycles their whole day 3 thing is mental I had a day 3 transfered, even though I really wanted to wait it out they made me feel i shouldn't, that one unfortunately was a bfn

I had my EC this morning collected 7 excellent eggs and 1 good egg, now to wait for the fertilisation, @Ilovebees am on steroids, blood thinners and progesterone tis time round. Also on progesterone injections after transfer

@Ilovebees thats good you are ready to get EC on Friday and have lots of lovely eggs !! I just had my scan and have a tiny folicle on the right starting to appear but will still be too small come . So just continuing on with the folicles from the left .. looks like 3 good ones and maybe some more might come that are small still .. I have to go back for a scan on Friday 🤞🏽

@hopefullsosbry hiya ! Ok so concentrating on the lefty ovary :) well it only takes 1 embryo so hopefully they are very good quality , as all the energy goes into growing them instead of like mine where they could be lots of eggs but very bad quality …. Zzz I don’t know what to think ….
its all a bit confusing until you really get the eggs out and see the numbers .

How are you feeling after your egg collection ? Are you in pain ? No sign of OHHS? Did you have many follicles to begin with ? Or roughy same amount as eggs collected ? X
