TTC Active Letrozole Thread

Struggling to find an active Letrozole thread. Recently been prescribed Letrozole as I have low progesterone and signs of ovulation not being as effective as it could be, albeit I still ovulate on my own.

Would love to hear success stories or chat to people who are going through TTC with letrozole now x

I got a BFP on my first Letrozole cycle, I'm now 8 weeks pregnant but we have so far unable to find a heartbeat. I'm back on Friday to check again but it's looking likely that it's a MC :/

Daniki · 08/07/2024 10:50

@dancingfairy1 I think I can see a hint of something alright 🤗

@harrietm87 wow! You're so responsive to letrozole, that's amazing. What was the reason you were on letrozole if it's ok to ask?
Congrats and hope it's going well.

Thank you!

I have mild pcos - I ovulate by myself and have regular cycles but they are slightly long - ovulating cd 16 and 32 days long. Still within the realms of normal. The main reason though is that I have to take medication from ovulation to prevent recurrent miscarriage, so the letrozole and trigger enables me to time that accurately.

Im 6 weeks now and have a scan this week to see what is going on in there. Early days still.

Treatment is private and costs an arm and a leg for the other poster who asked!

Angelselevenx · 08/07/2024 10:51

@worldwidetravel2017 I'm on 5mg as I'm using it as a booster for my progesterone. It was the cycle of my HyCosy we conceived as well

I also usually ovulate by myself

But have pcos

And letrozole bought ovulation fwd
And will in turn - hopefully shorten cycle length

Funny you should say that - I’ve recently started having to pluck a few rough hairs on my chin. I’m lucky though I’m very fair skinned and the hairs are blonde. Im
also 37 though so had assumed this was a natural part of aging - most of my friends seem to also do this!

My GP said I don’t have pcos but my private doctor says I do - my hormone results were borderline, I don’t have any symptoms (am normal bmi and have regular periods). I have cysts on my ovaries but this is also a symptom of hypothyroidism which I do have, so it’s a bit unclear basically. Anyway I’ve never had trouble conceiving - have been pregnant 8 times, each time conceived 1-3 months of trying - my problem has been recurrent miscarriage due to autoimmune issues.

Yes and they were normal. My AMH level was high for my age but my FSH/LH were normal. My GP said that this means I don’t have pcos; my private doctor said that the AMH level means I do.

Hypothyroidism causes cysts on the ovaries. I have hypothyroidism and I do have cysts.

My understanding is that to be diagnosed with pcos you need to tick 2 boxes out of these 3: cysts, physical symptoms, blood results. My GP says I only have 1 symptom (the cysts) and that is due to my hypothyroidism so I don’t have pcos. My private doctor (fertility specialist not an endo) says that I tick 2 because he thinks my AMH result ticks the blood result box. I’m not convinced tbh but ultimately it doesn’t really matter?

worldwidetravel2017 · 08/07/2024 14:41

Amh high is often pcos..

Pcos really highers miscarriage risk .

Metformin
And myo inostol can help with pcos

Id trust fertility person over gp

worldwidetravel2017 · 08/07/2024 14:42

Common to have low progsterone with pcos too

harrietm87 · 08/07/2024 14:47

Yeah my progesterone levels are all fine (as are all my other hormone levels).

My AMH was 38 and the reference range for my age is 5.5-37.4, so it’s high but not extreme.

There is no treatment for pcos once pregnant as I understand it (beyond progesterone perhaps which I don’t need). As I say, my fertility dr thinks I have it but it has zero impact on my treatment plan, which is steroids to treat my autoimmune issues.

Some people with pcos stay on myo inostol and metformin
When preg
Etc

Ok thanks - my private doctor hasn’t recommended any of this stuff and this is baby 3 for me.

Tbh im on enough medication for my other conditions as it is. Either I don’t have pcos at all or I have it in an extremely mild form so I’m happy to take my doctors’ advice on this.

dancingfairy1 · 08/07/2024 23:42

I have always believed I have mild pcos too, the fertility clinic said I don't but I had irregular periods most of my life and have bit of a pcos belly even tho I'm petite and have normal BMI.

This cycle we took a break from letrozole and started myo and d-chiro insoitiol - I could feel it working pretty quickly. And it worked as I have a clear positive today. Can't believe it after all this time! However still early days yet.

hopeanddreams · 09/07/2024 11:49

Little update, been taken off Letrozole. All 4 strengths I've been unresponsive now and they can't up the dose any more...

Daniki · 09/07/2024 19:29

@hopeanddreams will they switch you to another drug? I was switched to tamoxifen after 4 cycles of letrozole and nothing happening!

dancingfairy1 · 09/07/2024 20:18

@Daniki Will you try more cycles of Letrozole? The usual procedure here is try it for six months before trying something else. Or what about Clomid as some women react better to it?

worldwidetravel2017 · 10/07/2024 21:00

My friend took 5 mg letrozole
And had progesterone recorded at 59

I've done 5 Let cycles, its taken 9 months to do that many due to not responding so having to wait and then medication to induce cycles each time

worldwidetravel2017 · 11/07/2024 15:46

As im currently mainly/ just nhs - ive not been offered any monitoring
Re letrozole
