I have a 2 year old and looking to start TTC later year. I made great friends on here last time when trying to conceive in 2020 so thought I would start a thread for anyone who is trying to conceive whilst looking after another child (in my case a toddler ekkk)

🙋🏼‍♀️ We’re planning to start next month.

I have an almost 2.5 year old. I would have preferred to have had a smaller age gap but I wasn’t mentally ready and we have been renovating our house so there was no good time before now.

Last time around I caught straight away. Hopefully the same will happen this time but I’m 38 now so who knows.

My cycles are regular thankfully, other than the odd random long one (max of 34 days I think).

I’ve started sporadically taking foelic acid, I also take fish oil, and also take a calcium, magnesium, vitamin d and zinc supplement. I ordered collagen yesterday too so planning to include that in the run up to TTC.

@Wyewaving Welcome!

I think it's tricky when you caught very quickly for DC1 - there's a bit of expectation for it to go the same way. When we were trying for DD, there was only one month out of the five months we tried (over a year) that I didn't get pregnant, and that was because I had an ovarian cyst rupture at ovulation. I was 38.

I'm 40 now, and possibly looking at a failed first cycle for no.2 when we timed everything perfectly and DTD a lot. It's hard, but I'm trying to adjust my expectations.

Good luck for next month! Hope you'll keep us updated. 🙂

Thank you!

A friend of mine who I’ve spoken to about this is very much ‘you’ll have no issues this time’ but it’s so unpredictable isn’t it.

Fingers crossed for you!

PerfectPairOfPlums · 31/07/2023 16:22

@2020newbie that's definitely a positive, congratulations

2020newbie · 31/07/2023 16:24

@PerfectPairOfPlums because I have no idea what has gone on with my cycle I’m not getting my hopes up it feels too good to be true

Megatron3000 · 31/07/2023 16:37

Me 🙂
Feel crazy for TTC no2 as our first is 10 this year but I am only 31 and I just feel ready for another and have done for quite some time. We do have some fertility issues on my husbands part but we are going into this with the mindset if it's meant to be it will happen 💕

Throwawy · 31/07/2023 16:58

@2020newbie that definitely looks positive to me! Congratulations!

ReginaPhalange12 · 31/07/2023 17:00

@Throwawy you're right it does make it shorter although even testing on my period due date would only make me 11DPO so still quite early. I haven't been able to find any FRER so have ordered some CB early detection (as well as IC) but I've heard you can get false positives on blue dye tests 🤦🏽‍♀️

Ah no @deliwoman1 you've still got 5 days until AF due so quite a bit of time. I have been cramping on & off for a few days but as my period is due in 4 days I'm not sure if it's because of that. Let's hope

deliwoman1 · 31/07/2023 17:04

@2020newbie Congrats! That looks positive, and judging by the high you had on CD12, which might've been your (first?) O day, I'd say you're super early too. Maybe you did ovulate twice!

deliwoman1 · 31/07/2023 17:08

@Megatron3000 Hi! Relaxed and que sera seems like a great approach. First cycle for me and I've already failed at that. 😂Good luck to you!

@ReginaPhalange12 That's true, thanks. It's funny how you just get a feeling though, isn't it?! I've just been a bit miserable and negative in general I think so it's seeping into this. I blame our shit rainy summer! I hope your symptoms are a good sign. So cruel that AF and early pregnancy share so many of the same effects.

2020newbie · 31/07/2023 17:11

@deliwoman1 I'm fairly convinced that I have ovulated twice to explain the rise then fall then rise again and it would be near impossible to get a positive so soon

Wyewaving · 31/07/2023 18:11

@2020newbie Congratulations!

2020newbie · 31/07/2023 18:37

@Wyewaving thank you. Trying not to get too excited because my cycle was all over the place

ReginaPhalange12 · 31/07/2023 19:58

@deliwoman1 it really is. Every 'symptom' I find links directly back to a period.
I know the feeling & agree the weather isn't helping!

Mariex1989 · 31/07/2023 20:04

Hi all 👋🏻 I know I’m a bit late to the thread but please can I join 😊?

I currently have a 20 month old and hoping to conceive another this year (from what I’ve read it looks like there’s a few with similar age baby’s on here too).

With our first it took quite a long time to conceive so I’m not holding my breath that it’ll be quick for us xxx

PerfectPairOfPlums · 01/08/2023 07:33

Welcome @Mariex1989 fingers crossed you catch quickly this time round.

I am back at work today (don't work Mondays) so hopefully that will keep me busy

deliwoman1 · 01/08/2023 07:59

@Mariex1989 Fingers crossed for you!

I tested this morning and it was negative. I’m still holding out a little bit of hope, but I’ve always tested positive by now, albeit with more sensitive tests.

I had quite a bit of ovulation pain this month so I’m wondering if my cyst is interfering with things. ☹️Plan to follow up with the GP but my Gynae referral isn’t until the end of Feb 😱

PerfectPairOfPlums · 03/08/2023 21:29

@deliwoman1 that's a long time to wait. Fingers crossed you get your bfp before that. Have you tested again?

I think I may have ovulated last night so got at least a week before I can test. I am so impatient

2020newbie · 03/08/2023 21:52

Me again. Tested again since and it’s all been negative although I’m only cd22 like I say no idea what’s going on but over the past two days I’ve had a UTI and had antibiotics so who knows what’s going to happen toward the end of the cycle but apparently uti can give false positives so I think that’s what’s happened here.

PerfectPairOfPlums · 03/08/2023 21:54

Oh I didn't know that. Sorry to hear it @2020newbie . I had a uti the other month and it threw my cycle way out

2020newbie · 03/08/2023 21:56

@PerfectPairOfPlums i keep telling myself I might not be out this month but I think I probably will be

ReginaPhalange12 · 03/08/2023 22:40

AF due tomorrow & I'm having lots of cramping tonight, 9DPO today & stark white BFN ☹️

GrowingPeanuts · 03/08/2023 23:22

Joining the gang... DD Is 2, and was a wonderful suprise whilst still on contraception (but very much loved). So a bit new to the TTC game. IUD out in June, an initial 9 day AF and then 5 days in early July. If I had a typical 28 day cycle, AF due yesterday. 4 tests all negative (Friday, Monday, Yesterday and today). No idea what to think. I know I need to be patient, times on my side (I'm 30), but want AF so I can start again or a positive test

Bells3032 · 04/08/2023 08:52

my period arrived yesterday. bang on the usual 27 days (my previous one was oddly 23 days) and i am so happy. means i won't be pregnant at my bil's wedding in two weeks. realised that my ovulation day will be bang on his wedding day (prob). Told my husband i'm not gonna chart or time this month. if we have sex then we just don't use protection. but the weddings in the south of france and i am going to be hot and running around with a toddler so not sure how much i am going to be in the mood. but this is the start of our TTC journey. it starts today!
