I have a 2 year old and looking to start TTC later year. I made great friends on here last time when trying to conceive in 2020 so thought I would start a thread for anyone who is trying to conceive whilst looking after another child (in my case a toddler ekkk)

Me! 😊 👋🏾 Starting this month. DD is 1. I
might’ve waited a little longer but I’m 40, so time isn’t on my side.

I’m on CD6 today. Cycles normally between 28-30 days and I ovulate typically between CD16 or 17.

It took a year and some losses before DD stuck, so I can’t say I’m looking forward to ttc again. 😬

Also scared of having a toddler to care for at the same time as a newborn!

mumsince2021 · 12/07/2023 09:50

Hi 👋 I have a 19 month old and have just started TTC for my second. It took 16 months to conceive my son so not feeling very hopeful that this will happen soon 😅 it's good to be back here for some company while trying. I have a really lovely WhatsApp group from ladies here who were due around the same time as me too.

My son is a terrible sleeper so it's going to be fun having 2 if I'm lucky enough to conceive again!

Are you all taking a more relaxed approach TTC this time? I actually don't think we could DTD as much as we did before even if we wanted to 😂 there's just no time

PerfectPairOfPlums · 12/07/2023 10:43

Yes we are. 1st cycle and it's a long one for some reason. No idea what has happened. My little one just turned 2

JJM13 · 12/07/2023 10:45

We are TTC to conceive no2 , we have a very nearly 4year old , we are both 38 it was so easy conceiving DD but it’s not been so easy this time . We had a MMC March that took until April to be fully resolved . I’ve had long cycles since , currently CD 28 12DPO , i have ?pregnancy symptoms but all early tests have been negative . I used to have 28 days cycles last two have been 37 and 33 days so not fully sure when to expect AF i’m hoping i’m still not out this month but i have accepted a probably am

deliwoman1 · 12/07/2023 10:59

@mumsince2021 Re. the amount of time it takes, I suppose we just have to hope that our bodies know better what we want them to do this go around?! I'm so hoping that ttc is brief this time. We're being a bit more relaxed to begin with, but mostly in terms of testing etc. I think we'll DTD as much as last time as it's a good excuse to make time for it when we're so knackered 😂DP is vaguely looking forward to the uptick in sex, I think!

@PerfectPairOfPlums If I haven't been ill, I always put longer cycles down to stress/hidden stress, or pressure of some sort. My body can be a joker. I sometimes get longer cycles because I need AF to show up on time for some reason 🙄

@JJM13 Sorry for your loss. At 12dpo I wouldn't say you're out just yet! How are you tracking ovulation?

Roxystar23 · 12/07/2023 11:05

Hello!

We are also TTC. We have a 13 month old boy and have jumped on the TTC train with this being our first month actively trying. I'm on CD32 of a 32 day cycle - I think i'm starting to feel my usual wave of pre-period belly pains and also some bloating. I did experience some very vivid dreams this last week and also have been so tired in the evenings over the last week so I did start to wonder if they could be very early signs of success - However, I think a visit from AF is imminent!

I've absolutely loved being a mum to our little boy and part of me thinks we should enjoy him a little longer before TTC #2 - However, we also think it will be quite a nice age gap & I'll be turning 35 later this year so I've got the body clock ticking at the back of mind. I also don't know how I will manage to find space in my heart for another little bubba - it already feels like it is going to explode because all of the love I have for my little one but I'm sure you all feel the same way! :)

mumsince2021 · 12/07/2023 11:20

@Roxystar23 I know how you feel I actually have a bit of guilt for trying for another as it seems like my son is not enough by trying for another 😅 but then a sibling is nice for them surely? I'm 35 so I don't want to wait longer due to fertility dropping. It was already bad last time with 2 chemicals and 16 cycles of trying.

AF just arrived for me yesterday so I'm on cycle 2 TTC now.

PerfectPairOfPlums · 12/07/2023 11:23

@deliwoman1
Yes I'm sure it will have been stress from my little ones birthday. Still not sure why AF hasn't turned up by now though. I will keep testing for ovulation. We decided to start TTC part way through this cycle so didn't track at the start.

How is everyone else tracking?

mumsince2021 · 12/07/2023 11:27

@PerfectPairOfPlums I'm not really tracking like I used to so far - we just DTD around my typical ovulation window from past tracking plus I had the EWCM. With my son I was using ovulation strip tests and tracking BBT every morning.

PerfectPairOfPlums · 12/07/2023 11:55

I have had EWCM multiple times this cycle so assume that my body is trying to ovulate but hasn't been able to. It's weird what our bodies do

2020newbie · 12/07/2023 12:49

Hello
currently have a 19.5m little boy, and AF is due tomorrow and this will be our first cycle ttc #2. Been tracking since having my little one because I refused to go back on contraception. Got pregnant first cycle I tracked last time so a bit nervous it won’t happen so quickly this time. 🤞🏻for an April 24 baby

2020newbie · 12/07/2023 12:53

@mumsince2021 were you on the Facebook “group chit chat” that split into two groups? It was November/ December 21 babies

deliwoman1 · 12/07/2023 13:54

@PerfectPairOfPlums I'm using the cheapie strips to track. Will start dipping on Monday to make sure I don't miss it!

@Roxystar23 I hope it's good news and not AF! Also, I feel totally the same way about no.2. Can't imagine loving another as much as DD, and I also feel a bit guilty that she'll have to share me while still being so little.

@2020newbie Nerves are the worst aren't they? In the past I've gotten pregnant easily, but had losses. I'll be a mess if I don't get a positive quickly this time around. It'll seem like a whole new problem to deal with!

mumsince2021 · 12/07/2023 13:57

@2020newbie I joined a December 2021 babies Facebook group set up through mumsnet and we moved to a WhatsApp later on. I don't think there was a split although some people didn't join or did leave the WhatsApp over time. Are you on it? I'm now wondering who you might be if so haha

2020newbie · 12/07/2023 14:10

@deliwoman1 I'm so nervous this time around that it won’t happen for some reason.

@mumsince2021 I was on one called group chit chat that had a WhatsApp group but I didn’t join it just the Facebook group, it then split into two groups and I joined the smaller of the two groups it’s only got around 25 people in it.

mumsince2021 · 12/07/2023 14:15

@2020newbie Ahh it's not the same group then after all. Was your little one born in late November then? 2 in our group are already pregnant again and it happened really quickly for them both but another has been trying for ages and still isn't... unless she's keeping it under wraps for now that is.

2020newbie · 12/07/2023 14:41

@mumsince2021 yeah must be a different one. I was due mid December 21 but little boy had different ideas and came mid November so he’s one of the oldest from that group now.

Me - also had a 2020 Baby in December :)

I've been trying for a while and no luck - and am having a wildly long cycle for me (normally cycles are 28-35 days) but i havent even ovulated this cycle and im on CD24 - completely forgot how not fun this part is!

Also BD with a toddler who wants to constantly crawl into our beds at innappropiate times.... and 'my mummy' when we even have a kiss.... oh dear.

PerfectPairOfPlums · 12/07/2023 16:49

@Optimistic66 I know what you mean. My little one is so possessive if my husband even touches me and joins us in bed most nights so there isn't much time

Mummysparrow · 12/07/2023 18:35

So many messages today, yay!
I haven't started the TTC journey yet as I have a few things coming up such a gut microbiome test (which I need to not be pregnant for). I was originally planning to start last month but putting off to next month. I say I am going to do a relaxed approach but I bet after a few months that might change.
I was 31 when I conceived my daughter on the 2nd month but I don't feel like I will be so lucky this time. My mum and sister have great fertility so I may be worried for nothing but my cycles are about 6 days longer then pre child now. Plus I was on medication before for a hormonal imbalance which can also has a use for fertility purposes. It was only a small dose but I don't know if it helped. I am not longer on the medication as pregnancy actually put that condition into remission. I feel really pessimistic and I haven't even started trying yet 🤦
The only thing that helps is that my daughter sleeps really well most nights so at least we have time to BD 🤣🤣
Not sure if I have word vomitted there 🤣🤦

The uncertainty is really hard. Fingers crossed it doesn't take too long for all of us

BirdIsland · 12/07/2023 19:43

Hi, can I join? No idea what cycle I'm on, I've lost count but been trying for well over a year. I'm 40+ so time very much not on my side but tests have come back fine for me. Already have one DD who was conceived first cycle, so the difficulty this time round has been a bit of a shock.

AF is currently 2 days late but my temps are way down so I'm assuming she's on her way and has just decided to mess with my head this month 🤯

Saucepot1985 · 12/07/2023 19:55

Hi all, I also want to start trying for baby number 2 in the Autumn. I wanted to start trying last year but unfortunately got diagnosed with Graves disease and was really poorly. So now I am balanced out I want to get cracking as my DS is 4 in December and I am 36 this year. I am feeling quite anxious about it already 💛

PerfectPairOfPlums · 12/07/2023 20:54

Have you done any tests @BirdIsland ?

Mummysparrow · 12/07/2023 21:06

@Saucepot1985 oh no. Are you medication and have they said if pregnancy will affect it? I have just turned 34 and I feel like there is a ticking clock, even though I have been told I am still young (I don't feel it 🤣). I think I will try for a year and if it doesn't happen I will be one and done as I have always given myself a deadline of 35. I know many do it but the sleep deprivation really affected me at 31 so I dread to think how it will affect me if I left it another few years.
@BirdIsland of course you can. How old is your DD? Do you monitor ovulation etc?
