I have a 2 year old and looking to start TTC later year. I made great friends on here last time when trying to conceive in 2020 so thought I would start a thread for anyone who is trying to conceive whilst looking after another child (in my case a toddler ekkk)

Can I join? DD is 15m.

We're starting next month. Sadly last pregnancy ended up ectopic and had surgery 3 weeks ago, so just waiting to heal a bit first. Desperate to get trying again!

ReginaPhalange12 · 25/07/2023 22:21

1DPO here & I have a feeling it's going to be a long TWW. I've already thought ahead to next month (ever the optimist!) and we'll be away when I'm ovulating & sharing a room with DC so if we're not successful this month we'll probably have to put it off until September ☹️

ReginaPhalange12 · 25/07/2023 22:24

Sorry to hear about your ectopic @Throwawy, I had one before I had DC (I didn't have surgery though) and had to wait for my numbers to fall +3 months, luckily we conceived DC shortly after the 3 month wait, it's always at the back of my mind though

PerfectPairOfPlums · 25/07/2023 23:37

AF just finished and I'm away without husband for the weekend so should be back just in time for ovulation at the start of next week. Then it will be a long TWW. When are people testing?

Bells3032 · 26/07/2023 08:28

Good here. just had last non TTC ovulation. my husband is so excited not to wear condoms anymore after this weekend haha (giving a few days leeway). I am a little anxious. I have never done the TTW before as never actively tried. We said we are gonna give it 6 months before going ahead and using our IVF frosties.

Thank you, it's lovely to hear from people who have successfully conceived after ectopic.

I'm stressing out about it a lot mostly because I had a bunch of cysts removed from my left ovary at the same time which I haven't ovulated from
In the last year and my right tube removed. I've read that when you only have one tube it will still pick up an egg from the other side a third of the time.
Luckily after surgery they said my remaining tube looks healthy though they had to remove some endometriosis from the outside, and the ovary they removed the cyst from looks healthy and they reckon will start working again once healed but I'm not convinced.
The ectopic was an accident - we weren't planning on trying for another until next year, but we're now trying earlier because of all this, and being 37, if we do eventually have to go down the ivf route better do so sooner rather than later.

PerfectPairOfPlums · 26/07/2023 11:35

How do you know which side you have ovulated from @Throwawy ?

ReginaPhalange12 · 26/07/2023 11:47

@Throwawy I had cysts found when I had my ectopic too although they had gone when I went back in 3 months later.
I've heard about it still picking up from the other tube. It can definitely be worrying but there are so many people who have gone on to have subsequent pregnancies with no issues. Good luck with your TTC journey

I get pains, also called mittelschertz. I always have for some reason, some people just do apparently.
Funnily enough, when my left ovary was still working I used to get them stronger on my good one and so I thought that one was dodgy for years. I was quite surprised when I fell pregnant with my first and they told me my left one had a 10cm endometrioma on it and therefore I wouldn't have been able to get pregnant from that one.

PerfectPairOfPlums · 26/07/2023 12:28

Interesting. I've never really noticed pain on a specific side, will see in a week or so if I can tell

2020newbie · 26/07/2023 12:50

I’m in my fertile window but have no idea what’s going on opk is still faint, all apps are saying ovulations tomorrow but have zero sex drive which is the opposite of how i usually am during my fertile window

deliwoman1 · 26/07/2023 16:39

@Throwawy Welcome! I'm sorry to hear of your ectopic. It's hard and so unfair. I had one myself when trying for DD, and it was scary. I was very lucky that mine resolved without intervention. I know a couple of women who lost a tube and then went on to conceive naturally, so there's definitely hope.

I just made a post about having a cyst. Got a 6cm one that's 'para-ovarian' so, originating from the ovary, but next to it now in my uterus. GP couldn't tell me for sure if it will affect implantation. Got to wait for Gynae word on that. I'm 4DPO today, so I guess we'll see in 10 days. 😐From what I've been led to believe, once you've healed, the ovary should be fine. Did they remove them because of the size? Hoping for a swift recovery for you. x

@ReginaPhalange12 I'll have my fingers crossed for you this month! I realised that September is probably a non-month for me, as DP has to have minor surgery, right around ovulation 😑

Other than that I'm feeling a bit low. We gave it our best shot at the right time, but I'm finding ttc hard to process atm. Maybe it's the reality of starting this journey again, which was so painful and anxiety-inducing for us last time. Still, I have lots to keep busy with so that's good!

deliwoman1 · 26/07/2023 16:41

@2020newbie That's frustrating. Are you testing more than once a day? I know peaks can come and go very quickly for some of us. You might just ovulate a little bit late this month. Our bodies do love to mess with us when we most need them to be reliable.

deliwoman1 · 26/07/2023 16:46

@PerfectPairOfPlums Promised DP we would wait until day AF due if it doesn't show. Early testing kind of helped me manage expectations last time we ttc (I was right about each pregnancy that didn't stick), but it didn't do much for my anxiety and he really didn't like the approach. Trying to respect that, but the temptation will be enormous next week!

Throwawy · 26/07/2023 17:23

@deliwoman1 oh wow I'd never heard of para-ovarian cysts before! Lovely to hear from others who've had ectopics and conceived as I'm quite worried about having another. Mine was self resolving too for about 2 weeks, hcg went from 2000 to 400 then one day it ruptured.

They advised to remove it due to size, though I declined up until the ectopic, as it didn't cause me any pain or symptoms. However during the ectopic they couldn't see anything due to the cysts being in the way, even when I went back in when it ruptured they still couldn't see it, and couldn't see that I had a litre of blood in my pelvis. My consultant who I saw because of them in my first pregnancy who was lovely ended up being my surgeon and an hour before surgery she came in and suggested we remove them at the same time, which I agreed as if this happens again I don't want to be left in PUL limbo again. She also reckons it'll get that ovary working again which I'm not convinced of.

ReginaPhalange12 · 26/07/2023 22:11

Thank you @deliwoman1 that's very kind.
Sorry to hear you're feeling low, TTC is such a rollercoaster of emotions

PerfectPairOfPlums · 27/07/2023 08:55

It is such a whirlwind. I'm really hoping it happens quick as I get so anxious not being able to plan things. I will need to find things to keep myself busy. Was planning my wedding when we conceived number 1 so didn't have much time to think about TTC.

deliwoman1 · 31/07/2023 13:14

How is everyone?

@PerfectPairOfPlums I have a lot on but it’s stuff I don’t particularly want to do atm, which is terrible for the TWW! I’m so easily distracted and MN is so tempting for procrastination!

I’m 9 DPO today and can’t shake how I got a clear positive at 10 DPO with my daughter. I’m still trying to hold out until Sat to test but I really don’t think I’m pregnant. No symptoms whatsoever. I didn’t have many in early pregnancy before but I was definitely bone tired before I got my bfps, even with pregnancies that didn’t stick.

deliwoman1 · 31/07/2023 13:20

@ReginaPhalange12 how’s the TWW going for you?

ReginaPhalange12 · 31/07/2023 13:51

@deliwoman1 7DPO here, it's consuming my thoughts, sometimes I feel really upbeat & other times I feel it's not been successful. I am constantly symptom spotting. I'd forgotten how stressful TTC / TWW can be.
I admire you for not testing, even though I know it's far too early I tested this morning 🤦🏽‍♀️ I have a short luteal phase, AF due on Friday so I guess I'll know more in the next few days.

Sending baby dust your way ✨

Throwawy · 31/07/2023 13:59

@ReginaPhalange12 I also have a short luteal phase, plus side being the TWW is shorter :)

Ah 7DPO is only on the cusp! With my first I had my BFP at 8DPO on a FRER.

deliwoman1 · 31/07/2023 14:09

@ReginaPhalange12 Not long for you now then! I just caved and tested. I feel terribly guilty for going back on what I agreed with DP but I won’t tell him. 😬 Not that there’s news anyway. It’s BFN of course! AF not due until Sat, and it was a low sensitivity cheap test done with wee that was probably 60% hot chocolate 😂 I guess I just wanted to see the negative to confirm what I feel. Unless I have some cramp or symptom of implantation tonight I’m counting myself out based on past experiences.

2020newbie · 31/07/2023 14:42

I am so confused. I’m starting to wonder if I’ve ovulated twice?! We were away cycle days 10, 11 and 12 and I didn’t bring any opk with me. Tested day 12 pm and got a high reading day 13 am and pm got high morning low night, low day 14 am high day 14 pm peak day 15, 16 and 17 am with is being low again day 17 pm this morning is day 19 and I woke so nauseous (I had HG in my first pregnancy from 4 weeks. I thought no there’s no way I could get a positive already but for some reason the urge to test was there. Anyway decided to do an opk and a pregnancy test opk strong positive and pregnancy test is a very faint line but definitely there. So now I’m wondering if I’ve ovulated twice and actually got pregnant or if it’s faulty tests and just a coincidence I feel so sick

PerfectPairOfPlums · 31/07/2023 15:12

@deliwoman1 MN is definitely high on my list when I am procrastinating!

Show us the tests @2020newbie

I don't think I have even ovulated yet so not even in the TWW and already wondering when I should test 🙈

deliwoman1 · 31/07/2023 15:17

@2020newbie That does seem a bit confusing! How long are your cycles usually, and do you know when you normally ovulate? Also which tests are you using for LH and HCG?

Still however you got there, nausea + a faint positive sounds promising... if you don't trust the test, I'd get a digital for tomorrow morning.
