I have a 2 year old and looking to start TTC later year. I made great friends on here last time when trying to conceive in 2020 so thought I would start a thread for anyone who is trying to conceive whilst looking after another child (in my case a toddler ekkk)

Did a test today @PerfectPairOfPlums and it was negative, which was what I expected given my temp.

I've been monitoring ovulation but actually didn't this month, just relied on BBT and got a rise when I expected so ovulate so pretty confident on timings. I'm 12DPO now.

For those worried about age, I do get that. I had my first at 36 and she was a horrific sleeper. But, I got through it and I'm sure I can do it again at 40+. Obviously it's personal choice but I don't think I feel much different now to when I had DD so I would say not to worry too much about specific cuts offs, age-wise.

Mummysparrow · 12/07/2023 21:06

@Saucepot1985 oh no. Are you medication and have they said if pregnancy will affect it? I have just turned 34 and I feel like there is a ticking clock, even though I have been told I am still young (I don't feel it 🤣). I think I will try for a year and if it doesn't happen I will be one and done as I have always given myself a deadline of 35. I know many do it but the sleep deprivation really affected me at 31 so I dread to think how it will affect me if I left it another few years.
@BirdIsland of course you can. How old is your DD? Do you monitor ovulation etc?

Yes been on medication for a year and it’s recently been lowered and I am back in range. Pregnancy could affect it or could go the other way and stay stable due to pregnancy lol. My consultant was reassuring and said it’s only an issue getting pregnant when it’s uncontrolled, then it’s extra monitoring etc during pregnancy. No I hear you, I had my son at 32 and the sleep deprivation knocked me bandy, must be mad thinking I’ll handle it better potentially 4 years later haha 😂

Hi 👋 I'd like to join please. Looking to start TTC late this year or early next year. My DD is 3.

I had hyperemesis gravidarum in my last pregnancy so I need to speak with the doctor to get a medication agreement in place.

I'm also suffering with chronic back pain and I'm worried pregnancy will make it worse. Had an MRI and nothing structurally wrong.

PerfectPairOfPlums · 13/07/2023 07:25

@RichTeaCheddars fingers crossed you have a better pregnancy this time.

I feel so out of control with TTC. I like to be able to control everything and be prepared for everything but babies just don't let that happen so i think it makes me more anxious. That's probably why I'm having a really long cycle this time as my body knows

Aw this is the same as me. My DS is 3 and want to start trying at the same time 😀

Mummysparrow · 13/07/2023 10:30

@RichTeaCheddars I love your handle name 🤣
My DD has just turned 2. I was lucky as I didn't get much morning sickness but my sister is currently pregnant and she has got hyperemesis gravidarum and has already had a few hospital admissions. Hopefully you don't get it with the next pregnancy. Instead of sickness I got indigestion a lot and back and hip pain most pregnancy (I am short and the bump was big). I was at my osteopaths office every 4 weeks to keep me mobile

Af arrived right on time officially day 1 cycle 1 🤞🏻

PerfectPairOfPlums · 13/07/2023 16:08

Ooo very exciting @2020newbie

I am still in limbo. No AF and no BFP. Day 57 of this cycle

RichTeaCheddars · 13/07/2023 17:46

@PerfectPairOfPlums yes, I feel like that too. I like to plan things and know what's going on. But pregnancy and babies aren't like that. It's really difficult.

@Saucepot1985 👋 fingers crossed it goes well for you!

@Mummysparrow hehe,.thanks 😋😋.

I hope your sister is able to get some medication to help give her some relief.
I'm short too, had a lot of pain in my ribs last time as they were expanding.

2020newbie · 13/07/2023 18:29

@PerfectPairOfPlums oh no do you usually have such long cycles?

BirdIsland · 13/07/2023 18:35

AF arrived this morning so onto the next cycle! Bit fed up, DP said yesterday "how come Boris Johnson can make kids so easily?!" and I totally get his point, it's very annoying 😫

PerfectPairOfPlums · 13/07/2023 21:35

@2020newbie nope, they have been regular around 28 days since I got them back after number 1, until this cycle. It's like my body is trying to trick me

2020newbie · 13/07/2023 21:46

@PerfectPairOfPlums how frustrating for you, did you get a peak ovulation?

december2020 · 13/07/2023 22:35

Can I join?
DS is 2 and we're thinking about starting TTC for number 2 in autumn.
I have suspected PCOS with irregular cycles and it took about a year to conceive DS so I'm not sure how it'll take but fingers crossed it won't take too long.

Savvy21 · 14/07/2023 06:13

Hi, I'd like to join. Being trying for a year and a half now with two mcs in between - one mmc and the other self resolving ectopic. Dd is now 3 so will be 4 if we are lucky enough to catch again. We are going to wait until September and then see the gp. I track resting heart rate. Does anyone else? I've confused it though by dieting so it's all over the place haha.

PerfectPairOfPlums · 14/07/2023 06:48

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages @Savvy21 hope you get your bfp soon. If you have been trying for over a year I would go to the GP asap as they can takes ages to put referrals in.

@2020newbie I had a darker than normal ovulation test but I wouldn't say it was positive. But I have never had a positive ovulation test. Even when I fell pregnant with my little one I didn't get a positive then. I think my surge may be very quick and I don't catch it

RedRobyn2021 · 14/07/2023 08:15

I'm planning the same later this year, my DD is 2.5 and I'm seeing pregnant women everywhere

PerfectPairOfPlums · 14/07/2023 09:52

@RedRobyn2021 I think you notice it more when you are thinking about it and/or trying for a baby. Although there have definitely been a few babies born recently around me and a few people pregnant too.

Bells3032 · 14/07/2023 10:49

Hi can i join too. i have such a great mums group from here for my first so would be lovely for my second too!! My daughter is 18 months old. We are hoping to start in august or September but i am diabetic so trying to get all my sugars under control first. I am now on insulin and seems to be making a big difference.

We never really tried to conceive with my first. We had been told natural conception would be nigh on impossible due to my husbands cancer. We had two rounds of egg retrievals for IVF to have enough eggs for two kids. went for transfer and didn't respond to meds cos i was already pregnant. also it was fraternal twins. lost one at 10 weeks though. So we are hoping for a natural one this time round too but if not have some frosties still waiting for us so not too anxious. DH had a sperm test yesterday so waiting for results of that to see whether the surge he had back then (still waaaay lower than doctors recommend) was just temporary. so fingers crossed.

Part of me is so excited for another one and part of me is terrified. I hated being pregnant. anyone else

PerfectPairOfPlums · 14/07/2023 14:05

Sounds like you have a lot to consider @Bells3032 fingers crossed you can get pregnant again naturally and all goes well.

I really enjoyed pregnancy. But I could rest a lot and have naps in the day. Not sure that will happen this time round with a 2 year old

Bells3032 · 14/07/2023 18:30

So results are out! His numbers have gone from 5 million to 12 million. Normal is considered over 15. His motility (the number that move) is 74% and normal is classed as over 40% and normal forms is 3% and normal is considered 4%. So overall normal "good sperm" numbers are 240k and his are 259k! And when we had our daughter they were 82k so hopefully give us a good shot!!!!

2020newbie · 14/07/2023 18:37

Fantastic @Bells3032 fingers crossed for you

Bubblesandtroubles · 14/07/2023 19:15

Can I please join? Cycle 3 for #2. My first is nearly 19 months. We fell literally straight away with her so- although 3 cycles is not a lot in the grand scheme of things- the disappointment of AF is all new to me and I've not found it easy. I don't know how people have the strength to do this for years. I take my hat off to them.
We haven't set a limit as such but both agree that we don't want to get so caught up in conceiving #2 that we lose the joy of the present with #1. Just reeeeeaaallly hoping this is our month 🤞🤞 but had a funny cycle last month so not even sure of my dates which is not helping my optimism..!
Good luck to everyone already trying 💕 xx

PuddleSplosher · 14/07/2023 20:15

Hello, can I join? Ttc my second at 37, my little girl will be 3 in September. On the 12th cycle, 11dpo and deeply hating the ttw. Conceived first cycle last time so all the ovulation testing and waiting is completely new (and horrible 😂) to me. The ovulation strips never worked for me then finally shelled out for the clearblue digital one last month. Got a peak fertility smiley face on day 19 after 10 days of “high fertility” 😵‍💫So ovulating waay later than I thought. I looked back at Flo and realised I’d had tender boobs around the same time every month and never had sex around then because I thought it was too late in the cycle… and there’s only so much scheduled sex I can deal with with a sleepless toddler on the prowl 😂 Then I got peak fertility at day 14 this month so it is all very confusing. Anyway, nice to have solidarity in this crazy emotional rollercoaster. So lovely to read everyone’s stories and makes me feel much less alone.

Mummysparrow · 14/07/2023 21:47

@Bells3032 oh that is great news. I bet you are so happy with that result.
@Bubblesandtroubles I conceived 2nd month with my 2 year old and I just don't see me with so lucky next time around and I do worry that I will get so wrapped up with trying to conceive that it affects my ability to enjoy watching my daughter grow up.
@PuddleSplosher oh that's good to know. Hopefully this month is more successful for you. My sister in law struggled with conceiving with her little girl and turned out she wasn't doing BD at the right time either. the first month she did it right on ovulation she got pregnant.

I have avoided trying until October because if I started trying now and got pregnant the timing wouldn't be right but at the time I do think realistically it may take some time. I just hope I have the same high fertility as my mum and sister. My sister is currently 12 weeks pregnant with her 3rd after missing 2 pills 😱 it's amazing how easily some people get pregnant
