Anyone out there starting/continuing IVF treatment next month (April 2023)?

I’m 36, first time everything, and due to start stims early April. Wondering if there are others who might like a thread to chat/vent?

If you’re out there and in a similar position, let me know!

@TheBirdintheCave to each their own. I'd never judge someone else for dealing with this difficult journey their own way. I haven't said people who think negatively are to blame and my post wasn't directed at you.

I personally feel that when i'm negative about a situation, i find that all I see is things around me that are negative and it's a dangerous road and I can spiral. I've had my own demons and have had help and use CBT to help me through. So you shouldn't assume just because I chose to be positive that I don't fit into any of the categories that you mentioned and I'm not a person "like you"

I personally find that when I look for the good on things more good things "happen" really i suppose I'm just more aware of the good things and less of the bad. This is my way of getting through, and being around negativity isn't healthy for me.

I'm not judging and I'm not here to be judged. So think best this convo ends here.

TheBirdintheCave · 21/04/2023 14:39

@charja100 Totally agree with this >> "I personally find that when I look for the good on things more good things "happen" really i suppose I'm just more aware of the good things and less of the bad."

Engineering ones mindset to take some good from every situation is a good perspective to have and is definitely an interpretation of PMA that I can get on board with :)

Sorry I misinterpreted what you wrote (re negative thinking attracting negative outcomes), I didn't think it was aimed at me personally, I'm just naturally defensive about the way I think.

I have the same knee jerk reaction when people who haven't suffered with infertility say things like 'If you just relax it'll happen.' So, no they're not directly blaming infertile people for their own problems, but they are inferring that they can't get pregnant because they can't relax which is just cruel, whether they meant it or not.

Anyway, apologies if I read what you wrote wrong and we shall leave it there :)

Sorry you had to have CBT by the way and I'm glad that it sounds like it helped you and that you're doing better now.

Hi all, sorry I'm very far behind on this thread but... I finally start stims today! Wahoooo! Down reg seemed to last forever.

My clinic told me to eat lots of protein and have 500ml a day of milk to reduce the risk of OHSS. Did anybody else get told this?

Hope everybody is well

TheBirdintheCave · 21/04/2023 15:53

@lemons44 Nope no one said anything to me about that and I'm meant to be high risk. I can't drink milk anyway as it makes me sick so that would be a no go 😂I could likely manage lots of protein.

I'm excited for you! I will be joining you on Wednesday! Medication is meant to arrive on Monday but we shall see if it turns up haha.

CR7 · 21/04/2023 16:43

@TheBirdintheCave @charja100 always hard to get across how you're feeling / thought process in a little text box. Especially me who struggles for my fingers to keep up with my brain when I am typing haha. Everyone is different in how they handle things / outlook / emotions etc especially whilst we are all chock full of drugs. What works for one person definitely doesn't work for another. I know everyone is providing me with great support on here and I'm thankful for everyone's insights and opinions xx

@lemons44 never heard of the milk thing and I've not been told anything about protein either although

RunningOnHope · 21/04/2023 16:54

@lemons44 ooh I got told to eat a bland diet with lots of protein, but they didn't mention milk or tell me why!

Flowerlover010 · 21/04/2023 17:09

Ive heard about milk drinking! I wasnt sure what it is for or what stage but ive definitely heard about it.

RunningOnHope · 21/04/2023 17:19

@lemons44 meant to say, my advice about protein was just given for after egg collection, not in the build up.

pongom · 21/04/2023 17:20

@charja100 really great to hear that you've also had ICSI due to male factor! I don't know anybody else who has so it's really great to know. I'm waiting hopefully until tomorrow morning to get some news about how it's gone, fingers crossed for a few tiny embryos!

I am keeping everything crossed for you and your sticky little ICSI one!

charja100 · 21/04/2023 20:09

@TheBirdintheCave I'm glad I was able to explain myself better so you could understand what I meant. I'm sorry that it wasn't clear enough in the first place.

Thank you for your last words. CBT is an amazing tool that more people should have the opportunity to learn and use just in general life. I needed it, but It's what's made me look at the world more positively. My therapist once said to me, if you can try to change the way you look at things, then the things you look at will change and it kinda stuck. I've never looked back. 💕

@lemons44 welcome back! And Woooooovongrats on starting stims. Yes to eating lean protein. But no to the milk. I was told to eat a Mediterranean diet and balance my blood sugar.

@pongom I'm on another thread on Mumsnet with people who've all specifically had male factor challenges and needed to have done ICSI. If you search you should find it. If you read back on it you might find it really helpful. I know that I did 🤗

Flowerlover010 · 21/04/2023 21:32

We are doing ICSI also.

Triselly · 22/04/2023 07:24

Yes we are also doing ICSI and pesa/tesa.

@RunningOnHope Do you know how long you have to wait for the next stage now? are you planning on a 3 or 5 day transfer?

Happy weekend everyone, hope you are all doing something nice and relaxing xx

RunningOnHope · 22/04/2023 07:52

Hi @Triselly we are awaiting the day 3 update today. We might get called in for a transfer today if there's only one embryo left, for instance. I'll be glad to get to transfer at all!

lemons44 · 22/04/2023 09:13

Thanks all so glad to be on stims at last. Can't believe how thin the needle was... I didn't even feel it go in! Much better than my down reg injections.

I'm doing ICSI too 😊 my husband's sperm is frozen after a micro tese surgery.

Fingers crossed for you today @RunningOnHope x

lemons44 · 22/04/2023 09:18

When you all started stims did you get ovary twinges? 🤔

I only did my first one last night but definitely felt some twinges throughout the night. I guess because I shut my ovaries down with down reg and now I'm booting them up they're a bit like 'it's🎉party🎉time'.

@lemons44 it only really happened for me in the first few. Then I guess they got more used to it?!

RunningOnHope · 22/04/2023 10:42

Eurgh no update so far... I'm sure they said they'd call on day three regardless.

charja100 · 22/04/2023 11:01

@RunningOnHope my clinic don't call on day three. But I called and asked for an update because I was so anxious and they gave me one. If your like to know you could try to call the clinic and ask for one. X

CR7 · 22/04/2023 11:03

I agree with @charja100 - you should call @RunningOnHope

charja100 · 22/04/2023 11:06

So many people doing ICSI. More than I realise from this thread!

@lemons44 I had ovary twinges for most days I was on stims. Glad the injections aren't going to be a struggle for you ☺️

Starting to struggle with this waiting malarkey. Starting googling early test dates last night. I wanted to know the earliest I could I test so I know. I feel like a test date of 2nd May is so far away!

RunningOnHope · 22/04/2023 11:06

Thanks @charja100 @CR7, was wondering about that... so I've called and left a voicemail.

Really hoping no news is good news, rather than "none of them have made it" news.

RunningOnHope · 22/04/2023 11:10

@charja100 I guess one question is, would you want to know if there was a chemical, with the joy and then heartbreak that would bring? Or would you rather not have known?

charja100 · 22/04/2023 11:14

@RunningOnHope I definitely think no news is good news. That's what my clinic said. We'd only call if there'd been challenges, or if they needed to do a day 3 transfer for example. I think it's good you've left a message if you want ti know though. I felt much better after they'd called me back with some news.

That's a brilliant way to look at it. I actually think I'd prefer to know it was a chemical. In all the 2.5 years we've been trying, we've never even had that. It would Slamon feel a step closer for me

charja100 · 22/04/2023 11:14

It would actually.*

RunningOnHope · 22/04/2023 12:47

Oh my goodness. An extra one fertilised later in the day so there are now four. And all four are developing great - they're really happy with how it's going.

Fresh transfer 1pm on Monday!

This is such a wild ride.
