Anyone out there starting/continuing IVF treatment next month (April 2023)?

I’m 36, first time everything, and due to start stims early April. Wondering if there are others who might like a thread to chat/vent?

If you’re out there and in a similar position, let me know!

Very interesting take on the two week wait. I've just watched whilst having my hair cut so there are subtitles if you don't have privacy xx

Would love to know what everyone thinks

charja100 · 20/04/2023 20:06

@WholeZebra yay! What a turn of events, it's all vegan and your finally on your journey! So happy for you to be on your way.

@CR7 thanks for sharing interesting video, my doctor said the exact same stuff when I left yesterday. Told me to live life as normal, just not to do any marathons or lift anything too heavy. Said shopping was fine and to go about not al life to keep moving and keep blood flow going etc.

charja100 · 20/04/2023 20:07

*begun... not vegan 🤦🏼‍♀️

CR7 · 20/04/2023 20:10

@charja100 I did agree. No mention of the hot baths / sauna etc but I am not a fan anyway.

Also no talk of diet and exercise....

SarahShorty · 20/04/2023 20:14

The results from my blood test came back (already!), all normal. So the embryo, despite looking good under the microscope, must have been poor quality. It's a numbers game and so far, I've rolled 3 times and lost all. Just have to keep trying. I'm going to do another LH test tonight to see if the high has become a surge.

CR7 · 20/04/2023 20:35

@SarahShorty forgive me. Brain is not the sharpest at the moment. You had your egg collection at the weekend is that right? xx

SarahShorty · 20/04/2023 20:44

@CR7 Nope. I had mine in January. On a Tuesday. I remember the day but not the date 😂

CR7 · 20/04/2023 20:51

@SarahShorty jeepers glad I asked xx sorry I got confused xx

SarahShorty · 20/04/2023 21:07

@CR7 no need to apologise xx

Flowerlover010 · 20/04/2023 21:41

@cr7 good video. I think he nailed it on the head. There is norhing we can do. If its going to stick it will if its not it wont.

CR7 · 20/04/2023 22:11

Exactly @Flowerlover010 xx

charja100 · 21/04/2023 08:01

@CR7 I think they ask you to avoid hot baths, saunas and steam rooms through the whole or pregnancy. It's something to do with blood flow.

Exercise is good as long as you don't exert yourself. Diet is to acts as if pregnant isn't it So balanced and nothing that could give you food poisoning I guess.

CR7 · 21/04/2023 08:12

@charja100 I'm lucky because I don't drink alcohol and I'm not a coffee fan. I just need to eat a little healthier x

charja100 · 21/04/2023 08:17

I'm not a heavy drinker but I like the off glass of a good bottle of wine with a nice meal. But I live a cup of coffee. I actually think not having coffee the last few months has been as hard as the treatment for me 🤣

I eat a really healthy Mediterranean diet anyway and love cooking so that's the easy but for me.

charja100 · 21/04/2023 08:17

@CR7

charja100 · 21/04/2023 08:19

@SarahShorty that's a good thing that your bloods have come back normal! You must be relieved. Really good news not to have any further complications.

They say it takes an average of 3/4 tries to win at this game so hang on in there. Your times due 💕

TheBirdintheCave · 21/04/2023 08:45

No miracle BFP this morning so husband will be calling the clinic to part with £1k for our medication 😭 The next thing that will go wrong is that it will either be cancelled because of how unwell we are or it will go ahead but then I'll get OHSS and have no fresh transfer.

From Wednesday I now get to torture myself for about twelve days for no reason 😥 Even the nurse from the appointment the other day seemed to agree that it isn't going to work. She asked if I was happy and I just said 'No, no one actually chooses to do this unless it's forced on them. We're just doing it to say we tried it so I don't feel like we just gave up when we never get a second child.' She didn't argue with me so it seems even they believe all of this is futile.

SarahShorty · 21/04/2023 09:41

@charja100 It is a relief! Thank you xx I think a lot of people assume that IVF will be a silver bullet, it's either sold as that or people just think it's that. All it does is speed things up as it eliminates some of the tricky bits of conception. Ultimately, it is a numbers game.

charja100 · 21/04/2023 13:12

@SarahShorty that's exactly my views on it all too. They worked their magic to get me to this point where I am Pupo and now I just have to let nature take its course. It's first time everything for me I'm so hopeful as the grades etc were so high. But deep down there's this voice saying come on be realistic you know it'll take a few tries. I've also done enough readying to know it's a numbers game. I can already see how hard that would be after a few transfers. I think it would be 4-6 if really start to struggle.

When I was at the clinic having my transfer on Wednesday there was a lady there having her 12th! What a superwoman!!

I think being positive is so important too. It's my motto for life. I'm a huge believer that you attract what you expect, so if you're negative and just focus on the negatives that's what you'll see and attract. But when you're positive you see the good and attract it.
There's so much to be said for belief and a PMA! 🙏🏼✨💕

Triselly · 21/04/2023 13:17

What is your next step/date then @SarahShorty ? Very best of luck xx

@charja100 Yes same here - love coffee, wine, saunas… everything that’s not great haha. I’ve cut down on the wine but still having the odd glass throughout the run up and process so far, but will cut out everything next week when egg collections and possible transfers go ahead. I heard on a podcast that giving up caffeine is way harder than people realise, and can cause a whole lot of unwanted stress! So have just been limiting to 1 cup a day. Well done for going cold turkey with everything!

@CR7 thank you for the video, it’s very reassuring! What he says makes total sense - and sounds like a very useful thing to remember post ET.

Hello everyone, happy Friday! Hope you are all doing alright at all our various stages, thinking of you all xx

@charja100 Twelfth transfer?! faints

@Triselly We're trying naturally this cycle and seeing how it goes. If it doesn't work, then we'll consider going for the next transfer.

pongom · 21/04/2023 13:27

it’s great to catch up on this thread after a busy week at work, sorry I’ve been quiet. Seems like lots of happening for a lot of us on here, exciting and nerve wracking times!

@RunningOnHope eeek well done on 15!

I had my egg collection this morning and also got 15 eggs, unfortunately my partners sperm morphology was only 1% so we have to do ICSI because they felt that if they used standard IVF we may well have no embryos in the morning. it feels like a real blow and I’m really worried that after going through all of this we might end up with nothing!

I LOVED the anaesthetic, felt like I’d had the most amazing sleep and wish I’d not wasted so much time worrying about it!

SarahShorty · 21/04/2023 13:40

@RunningOnHope I agree with you on the anaesthetic! I didn't find it restful, I just loved the fact that I was knocked out. I know that sounds sinister 😳The anaesthesiologist said "Right, time for some gin" and then I was out.

charja100 · 21/04/2023 13:44

@Triselly I have had the odd cup of coffee here and there but it's been a rarity.

@SarahShorty I know right! My jaw dropped and my husband was in shock. I think he was doing the math of how much that might have cost!

@pongom well done on 15! I had to have ICSI too as we are male factor (my hubby had bad everything, count, morphology, etc)
We were supposed to use zymot but we didn't even have enough sperm per million in his count to use it so we didn't. I was worried about our rates but we ended up with 5 embryos, one hopefully getting sticky as we speak and the other two in the freezer! Don't give up hope! 💕

TheBirdintheCave · 21/04/2023 14:02

@charja100 See now the PMA ideology really bugs me as it puts a lot of pressure on people like me who are autistic or those with mental health issues like depression and anxiety (or a mixture of everything) who maybe can't help how they think or feel.

I am naturally negative because I'm afraid of getting hurt. I have to tell myself that I'm not going to get what I want so that if/when I don't, it's not so much of a surprise. I had that attitude when I got pregnant with my miracle son and all throughout my pregnancy I was convinced he'd die. But hey, he didn't, my 'negative energy' did nothing to change the predestined biological outcome of the fact that he was a genetically sound embryo. I've also lost two and had the same mindset with them. But I didn't cause their demise, genetics did.

Does that make sense? Being positive is a good thing in general, definitely, but suggesting that someone who thinks negatively will only have themselves to blame if bad things happen is a bit unfair.
