Short luteal phase?

Hi ladies

I have a short LP, about 9-10 days. Anyone else in the same boat? Have you managed to get pregnant with a short LP? Any advice would be very welcome!

@EmmRach @JuniperandI @GabbyGal okay fine I’m having wine with dinner tonight then 😂 he can drive! Could be the last time 🤞🏼

BCxx · 12/11/2022 13:50

@LS888 so if af comes on day 28 you’re only going to get a 7 days LP. If you go til 32 then you’ll have 11 days so maybe possible for your body to have a chance to tell it you’re pregnant and not to bother!

Ive been having this problem since stopping the pill but this month is the first month it’s looking better. I did a load of research and it seems people take a whole range of things, some with proven benefits and others not. I took maca root (Red) every day in the first half of my cycle and ovulation happened on day 16 instead of 20+. Could have been coincidental. I’ve had a vitamin C drink daily as that seems to be important for your lining to be thick enough to implant. Also trying ashwagandha as I believe the cause of mine could be stress. Cortisol is released when you’re anxious or stressed that joins to the same place progesterone does, this means it blocks the progesterone and it can’t increase enough to stop AF arriving. I think there could be a very high chance that’s what was happening in my case. I said I’d do yoga as well this cycle but haven’t started yet 😂 I did buy agnus castus to take after ovulation but took it once then kept seeing mixed reviews so stopped!

buttercupbee · 12/11/2022 14:36

@LS888 so sorry about your miscarriage. As @BCxx says it depends when AF comes as to if your LP is short or not. I ovulated on CD21 last month and had a 30 day cycle so my LP was 9 days

I’m on CD19 today and still no sign of a peak :(

LS888 · 12/11/2022 14:51

@BCxx thanks for your advice. Before this cycle I had a random 35 day cycle. I was on holiday and swore I was pregnant but no such luck! I will have a read into some of your recommendations so thanks for that!

@buttercupbee thanks. I’ve had low readings everyday until last night and then higher this morning so today could be the day. Annoying as we are staying with family this weekend! 🤦🏼‍♀️

DesertSnow · 12/11/2022 17:36

Hi all, hope you're ok. I'm feeling mighty confused! I'm 4DPO, had a big dip in temp this morning and I've been feeling all day as if AF is coming. Surely my LP can't be 3 days this month?! I was also wondering if maybe I didn't actually ovulate when I thought I did, and the dip could be an ovulation dip that I sometimes get... but then my last few temps have been much higher than my pre-ov dips. What a minefield!

@BCxx I think no harm drinking in the tww, as long as you don't go on a mad one.

@JuniperandI great news you ovulated earlier! Wonder if it was the evening primrose oil? I'll be trying that next cycle. Fingers crossed for you!

@EmmRach ah interesting that you conceived while you had Covid! Fingers crossed having the flu won't have impacted our chances. Just concerned that I've been feeling like AF is coming all day! I'm actually doing good since the wedding - flu and cycle worries aside! I was really apprehensive about having post-wedding blues but I'm just super happy and loved up! Though I go back to work on Monday, so it may hit me then! Glad you're doing ok! So excited for you. Did you have classic symptoms of low progesterone before conceiving (other than the short LP) e.g. spotting? It may not have been the issue for you so I'd try not to worry too much about it (though I'm sure it's hard!)

Hi and welcome @LS888 - so sorry to hear about your MC. As others have said it depends on when you get AF - ovulating on day 21 and having a 32 day cycle would give you an 11 day LP so that would be ok. Mine is 7-9. Do you track BBT? I find it easier to pinpoint ovulation than OPKs.

It seems like a lot of us seem to ovulate quite late on in our cycles, guess that's linked to a short LP? Weaker ovulation = lower progestrone produced by corpus luteum?

LS888 · 12/11/2022 20:37

@DesertSnow yes i also started tracking BBT this month too. Haven’t had a huge increase in temp to be honest. But in the last day it has increased slightly. I’ve attached a photo of my charts on Premom.

Short luteal phase?
EmmRach · 12/11/2022 20:50

Welcome @LS888 and I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. 😞

The other teamies have pretty much covered it in terms of the length of your LP.

This month when I conceived I was taking high dose vitaminC, high dose vitamin B complex and iron. It's the only thing I changed... but I obviously can't be sure if it helped. I ovulated on cycle day 18, which was very standard for me over the last 6m or so, with an 8 day LP.

@DesertSnow so I only really realised what spotting was during the cycle where I conceived so I never got to actually see for sure. But I think I would usually have 1 day of spotting, perhaps 1.5days maybe actually before it was like someone turned the tap on. So I don't know if that's typical low progesterone symptoms?

Loved up is a perfect place to be!! And everyone at work will want to hear all about the wedding for at least a week and you will be able to gush about how wonderful it was. So hopefully that buzz will remain!! Hope this flu pisses off for you though!!

It is a blooming mine field!! Perhaps you are going to O later?! Keep OPK and see what that says?! Last cycle my chart was a bit all over the place. I think partially due to Covid! So it could be your flu throwing you off? It looked like I had two spikes (and my temp dropped immediately after the first spike below the cover line)... but I went with the initial spike where I had my positive OPK and that's when I'm assuming O was. It would also make sense as I got my first bfp at 10DPO (very faint) which I think is about right. But honestly who blooming knows!! I'm still all confused with how many weeks I am. Because my short cycle throws everything out. Anyway, I'll find out on the 24th hopefully when I have my private scan. Assuming I make it that far 🤞🏻

@BCxx enjoy your dinner, you made me laugh about the yoga. That's so me 😅

@buttercupbee fingers crossed for your peak tomorrow to try get you that 10 day Lp!!

JuniperandI · 13/11/2022 00:35

I think spoke too soon about early ovulation 🙄I had what I thought was ovulation pains a few days ago but negative OPKs (I tested once a day so I thought I'd just missed my peak). Just had this result from a OPK - a positive? My app is predicting ovulation on Monday.

Short luteal phase?

Mugascauld · 13/11/2022 09:10

@JuniperandI that looks positive to me unfortunately ☹️ That’s very disappointing but at least you can try again now! I’m maybe in a similar boat, I thought I was 8DPO today but I’ve been taking OPK’s to make sure I didn’t miss a peak because I think sometimes I try to ovulate and fail and try again later. This morning I got a decent test line on the OPK. Not positive but strong enough, as if it’s on its way back up. I’m CD23 ☹️ I’ll keep an eye on it but it’s so disappointing when you think you’ve already ovulated

JuniperandI · 13/11/2022 09:22

@Mugascauld yeah, we've made sure to keep DTD regularly just incase. It's annoying but I've only taken evening primrose oil for one cycle so I expect it hasn't worked yet.
Fingers crossed for us this cycle 🤞🤞

Mugascauld · 13/11/2022 09:26

@JuniperandI ok well at least you’ve covered all your bases! Hopefully you did actually ovulate early and this is just a random hormone thing, but even if you didn’t hopefully you’ll catch this egg!

DesertSnow · 13/11/2022 19:43

Hi all, hope you've had a good Sunday.

@EmmRach My temp went up a little bit (0.06) today from the sizeable dip yesterday. Looking online, with the timing it looks like it might have been a secondary oestrogen surge causing a temp drop. Just when you think you know everything, along comes something new you hadn't heard of! I haven't had that (at least with noticeable effects - the lower temp + CM) in all my months of tracking. So I think I did ovulate - phew! Ah I hope you're right that I can bore everyone at work about the wedding! Re. low progesterone - I think there are some other symptoms as well as spotting - headaches etc. But I wouldn't think too much about that if I was you, just focus on your body and what it's doing now rather than what it was or may have been doing before. I'm keeping everything crossed for you! Bring on the 24th! Hopefully they'll help you make sense of the dates.

@JuniperandI oh that is a pain, but good that you're keeping up DTD to try and catch the egg if you've not OV'd yet.

@Mugascauld Sorry you think you haven't OV'D yet. Guess best thing to do is to keep OKPing and DTD if possible.

EmmRach · 13/11/2022 21:49

Crikey these blooming pesky eggs!!! Very hopeful you can catch them / caught them when they make / made an appearance. It's the not knowing what your body is doing that makes it all the more frustrating isn't it. If it was clear and obvious I really think it would be less of a head f*ck!!

@DesertSnow I've never heard of a secondary oestrogen surge either!! But after a quick google it would fit your situation wouldn't it!

You won't be boring people, everyone will want to hear about it. Hope your first day back goes ok!!

And you're deffo right, I just need to look forward now don't I. And yeah.. roll on the 24th. I'm away with work Tues - Thurs next week so I think the week will go pretty quickly thankfully! And we have a busy weekend too, next weekend. So hopefully I won't have much time to over think / google!!

Sparklythings1 · 25/10/2022 20:38

I’ve stopped the pill recently but ever since have had a short luteal phase. This is my third cycle so I’ve really upped my game with the research. I’m taking vitamin C, pregnacare (was already taking it), ashwagandha as I think stress could be the cause of it - cortisol blocks progesterone receptors so it’s physically stopping it from increasing, I’ve got agnus castus that I’m going to try taking only from 2dpo (just to make sure I’ve definitely ovulated first as it can potentially alter it). Also planning to try and relax a bit (ha) 😂 Going to do meditation and yoga starting this week as I do think stress is probably the cause of it for me!

Be careful woth Pregnacare. I have always had 33 day cycles with 12/13 day LP. I started taking pregnacare preconception in May this year when we started to ttc. I then had 3 months of 9/10 day LP. Stopped taking the prrgnacare and went up to 12 day LP almost immediately.

Mugascauld · 14/11/2022 19:18

friends, I got a squinter! I don’t even know why I’m attaching a photo because even I can barely see it in this but it’s clear as day (though squinty) in real life, showed up in a couple of mins and definitely blue! I’m 9DPO today and had a few symptoms similar to my last pregnancy so decided to check. Shocked! Because I wasn’t even sure if I ovulated! Also a bit unsure cause I’ve never used a clearblue before…

Short luteal phase?
BCxx · 14/11/2022 19:55

@Mugascauld ahh congratulations! I definitely see it! What time of day did you do it? I got a negative at 9dpo this morning (might even be 8), so tempted to test again tonight but desperately trying to save it for tomorrow morning. My boobs feel really full and the only other time I’ve ever noticed that is when I was pregnant with my little boy!

BCxx · 14/11/2022 19:56

@Maybebabyno2 that’s interesting 🤔 I take it and have had 8 day LP, this month seems to be the exemption.. day 9 and still in the game 🤞🏼

Mugascauld · 14/11/2022 20:05

@BCxx i took it at about 6pm! Went to the pharmacy after work and they didn’t have FRER. I was gonna holdout to tomorrow too but I couldn’t help myself 🙈 I’ll do the second one from the pack with FMU tomorrow.
Fingers crossed for you! I had a stark negative yesterday and honestly this one is a serious squinter so I barely believe it. I’ll see how it looks tomorrow.

EmmRach · 14/11/2022 21:05

EEEEEEEEE!!!!! @Mugascauld !!!!!
This is potentially very exciting 🤩
I got even more of a squinter at 9DPO and then something I felt pretty sure about at 10. I cannot wait for the morning now, nevermind you!! Please update us soon as you can!! Everything crossed for you!!

And for you also @BCxx even if AF does rock up, a lengthened LP is cause for celebration and it gives you good hope for the next cycle. I really hope it's this one for you though!! Let us know 😬

EmmRach · 14/11/2022 21:06

@Mugascauld just eyeballing your test and I can definitely see a blue line!!!!

JuniperandI · 14/11/2022 22:43

@Mugascauld I can definitely see a line! Congratulations! What's your normal LP? Did you do anything different this cycle?

OP posts:
LS888 · 15/11/2022 07:12

Keeping my fingers crossed for you @Mugascauld 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

BCxx · 15/11/2022 07:42

today is either 9or 10 dpo, kinda missed the exact peak this cycle but pretty sure AF has just arrived 😩

@EmmRach definitely, I felt like things were going so well 😂 but don’t think 9 or 10 days is really enough!

buttercupbee · 15/11/2022 08:23

CD22 and I’ve FINALLY got a peak OPK but I’ve also got a UTI 😩 I was going to call the doctor for antibiotics but I don’t want it to affect our chances. I’ve tried googling but found conflicting advice, does anyone know if antibiotics can affect your chance of conceiving? I don’t know whether to see if it passes on its own first before going down that route

alark · 15/11/2022 08:35

Me 🙋🏼‍♀️ 10 day LP and I'm sat with my 1 year old now Smile

I started taking vitamin C supplements the month I conceived.
