Short luteal phase?

Hi ladies

I have a short LP, about 9-10 days. Anyone else in the same boat? Have you managed to get pregnant with a short LP? Any advice would be very welcome!

Negative for me this morning ☹️ Feel like I got the worlds worst evap last night, it was so blue! AF due today, 10DPO. We’ll see.

EmmRach · 15/11/2022 08:43

@BCxx aghhhhh I'm so sorry AF got you 😖😖
My LP was always 8 days, I got my bfp in cycle 3, but I tracked my cycle for a year before that with bbt and OPK in preparation, and it was consistently 8 days, occasionally 9 but more often 8. I did all the same reading you will have done. There are some scary articles out there. But I got a bfp, so it's possible!! I'm still not very far along, only 22DPO but I got a 3+ weeks on a digital clear blue yesterday at 21DPO. So I know it can call come crashing down around me but for now it seems to be progressing ok.

@buttercupbee oh poor you!!! UTIs are rotten. Don't suffer, go get the antibiotics, there is always next month. An untreated UTI can spread to your kidneys and stuff, then that would set you right back. You need to be in good shape for baby making. Hope you feel better soon

EmmRach · 15/11/2022 08:45

@Mugascauld noooooo I had such good feelings!!! So sad to read this!! What did you test with today??
Really hope at least AF holds off another day or so and you manage to get a bit of a longer LP.

EmmRach · 15/11/2022 08:49

@alark - that's great to hear!! Success stories are so heartening. Really hoping I can keep hold of the little bean i'm currently growing but I'm pretty worried about miscarriage whilst the baby still has to rely on the corpus luteum before the placenta takes over. Give your one year old a squeeze from me please in hope this one is going to stick!!

I know this will help all the other ladies on this thread too, it's so worrying having a short LP it's like an added hurdle on an already seemingly impossible race course!! Thank you for sharing

EmmRach · 15/11/2022 08:51

@alark oh forgot to say... same here, vitamin supplements including high dose C on the cycle I conceived!

Did you carry that on throughout your 1st trimester. Or just took the normal prenatal vitamins? I've continued taking it in hope it might support my babies home for a bit longer till it doesn't need it anymore?!

alark · 15/11/2022 08:58

@EmmRach congratulations! I felt really deflated when I started tracking and realised my LP was short so I hope it helps other women to hear positive stories.

I carried on taking it throughout my 1st trimester with the usual pre natal vitamins, no idea if that was necessary but my pregnancy was smooth (despite the sickness Envy) and DS was/is healthy so it hasn't hurt Smile

EmmRach · 15/11/2022 09:02

@alark - fab! Good to know. I'll continue too. Thanks again!!

buttercupbee · 15/11/2022 09:27

@EmmRach thank you, I know you’re right but it’s just so frustrating when you wait all month and then something sets you back. But I’ve had a kidney infection before and it wasn’t pleasant so definitely not worth risking it. Waiting for a call back from the doctors now!

@alark thank you for sharing your positive story, it’s great to hear a success story from someone else with a short LP, gives me hope 😊

Mugascauld · 15/11/2022 09:40

@EmmRach clear blue again. Honestly I’m wondering if it picked up ovulation! And I actually hadn’t ovulated after all. Took an OPK this morning and it’s quite dark. So frustrated 😞

EmmRach · 15/11/2022 12:11

@buttercupbee gooooood. I know it's SO frustrating, it's really shitty, but you're doing the right thing taking care of yourself lovely.

@Mugascauld - Ahhh maaaan 😞😞 that's just confusing!! Sooo a quick google says "If you are pregnant, your hCG levels will be much higher than normal and an ovulation test may inaccurately detect this and read it as a high LH value. This is not to say that ovulation tests can substitute for a pregnancy test—pregnancy tests are much more accurate."

I had read this somewhere before I think. So your high LH could be because your pg!! But I don't want to get your hopes up again.

I'm doing an anti AF dance for you. If it doesn't make an appearance today will you test again tomorrow? Or will that give you too much hope and upset you too much if it's a bfn?

JuniperandI · 15/11/2022 12:39

Hello

Ladies who have been/are pregnant - how were you feeling after ovulation? Similar to when you're not pregnant/in the PMS window?
I'm 2 DPO (period due in 7 days) and I'm craving sweets and am exhausted. Pretty typical PMS type symptoms which I have most cycles.

I'm worried I'm out already!

OP posts:
EmmRach · 15/11/2022 13:50

@JuniperandI
I never really got much pms, so I felt pretty normal in those first DPOs. Sorry that's probably not super helpful 😖

Saturnsmoon · 15/11/2022 14:36

I had the same thing happen a couple of months ago but was in so much pain so went to GP. They will very likely ask you if you are pregnant before prescribing anything - I said no but that we were ttc so they prescribed me antibiotics and said it was safe to take while ttc but held off on prescribing another pill they usually would have as it was not safe if pregnant so would suggest going to gp and just telling them you are ttc. Mine thankfully cleared up really quickly with the antibiotics. Hope you feel better soon!

JuniperandI · 15/11/2022 15:16

@EmmRach that's a comfort kind of if you didn't notice a difference!

OP posts:
buttercupbee · 15/11/2022 17:44

@EmmRach thank you :)

@Saturnsmoon thank you, I did tell them we are ttc and they’ve given me nitrofurantoin which isn’t supposed to have an affect on fertility or pregnancy. Hopefully it clears up soon!

Mugascauld · 15/11/2022 19:19

@JuniperandI with my first pregnancy I had absolutely no symptoms in the 2WW at all as far as I can remember. I think cramping was the only thing! I never really get PMS or cramps so I remember it feeling different.

@EmmRach i might give up on the testing for a few days. I honestly have no clue where I am in my cycle, if I O’d, what’s going on! I trust nothing anymore 🥲

BCxx · 15/11/2022 20:12

@EmmRach thanks! I was clinging onto a bit of hope this morning when it didn’t arrive at full force and thought it could have been implantation but I’m pretty sure it’s not now. I feel like this is the only one month I wouldn’t be quite so gutted since it’s coming up to Christmas and I have nights out I’d need to lie on 😂 although if next cycle was to my lucky month I’d find out mid December so would still have a few nights out to get through.

What eventually happened with yours, it just stayed short every month then randomly AF didn’t arrive one month? The science behind it all is so confusing because I keep thinking what if I’ve technically conceived every cycle so far and every time it goes to implant my body goes ‘SEND IN AF!’ So I’m just never going to get out of that cycle. Took vitamin c all month. Took maca root which seemed to bring ovulation forward to cd16, il maybe try again with it this cycle in the hope it comes to nearer cd14.

Imagine how simple life must be if you can just click your fingers and get pregnant without all this faff 🙄 I am confident Itl happen eventually since it’s happened before but I think between my work stress and possibly still being affected by the pill it’s just taking much longer. This is only cycle 4 now so not the end of the world yet

alark · 15/11/2022 21:20

@JuniperandI I had all my usual PMS symptoms and dark spotting, to the point that I even texted my husband to say my period was starting and that I was upset 🤦🏼‍♀️ Now listening to the result of those symptoms snoring on the monitor!

Best of luck to all of you ❤️

JuniperandI · 15/11/2022 21:21

@alark that's good to hear, thank you ❤

OP posts:
EmmRach · 15/11/2022 22:45

@Mugascauld totally understand you wanting to step back from testing. I'm sorry you're having a shitty cycle. If you are definitely out this month, I just hope the next one is a bit clearer for you. 😖

@BCxx yeah - tell me about it, the Xmas thing is gonna be an issue. I'm a big drinker / can always be relied on for a party... so it's going to look incredibly suspect when I'm not knocking back shots. I told my boss tonight because we were out for a meal and he automatically ordered my fave bottle of wine. He was super sweet about it and promised it would stay between us. And I guess this way if it does go wrong... I won't have to explain why I might need a day off to be sad.
Yep... it was 8 days consistently until the month I got pregnant when AF just never showed. And my ovulation always stayed at CD18/19 (with a 26 day cycle). I was CD18 when I caught on.
Soooo I kind of think, because that's what my cycles have always been like, perhaps that's normal for me? And my body knows what to do because of that??!! I mean... other than the vitamins I've no other explanation for it happening. It just did. The maca root does have some good stories behind it online. So I think it's worthwhile keeping trying??

Yeah, imagine if we didn't have ttc and then anxiousness about it being viable etc to occupy our brains. Imagine all the other things we could do 😅🤣

BCxx · 15/11/2022 23:33

@EmmRach haha itl be hard going! I had decided that rather than tell my friends at a Christmas meal we’ve arranged I would have told the restaurant every time I ordered a set drink it was to be a non-alcoholic one and they weren’t to say anything. Would rather risk telling them than tell my own friends 😂 that night out isn’t until really near Christmas so I could still end up pregnant before it and no chance am I telling them like the week after finding out! Feel like I can’t use any excuse either as we’re all on the verge of having a baby/another baby so it’s just such a huge giveaway! I’m totally on the lookout for my friend’s not drinking too I’ve noticed, maybe I’m just paranoid 😂

That’s good he won’t say anything and definitely easier if they know. Last time I found out I have rhesus negative blood type so if I was to have had any bleeding at all or fall at work etc then I needed to go straight to hospital for the anti D injection. I told them at 9 weeks in case I needed it but never did. My boss told multiple people she didn’t need to so I don’t think I’d even bother this time!

Carlotta27 · 16/11/2022 09:37

Sharing a bit of a rant here…

Spoke with me GP this morning (a woman who claims she has years of experience with fertility) and she was adamant the luteal phase was 12-14 days so completely dismissed my concerns, won’t offer any tests until 12 mo of trying and told me the OPK sticks were not reliable … so frustrating!

JuniperandI · 16/11/2022 13:18

@Carlotta27 that's awful. How disheartening. It might be worth looking at going private?

OP posts:
Carlotta27 · 16/11/2022 13:21

@JuniperandI yes! I’ve got a private appt booked for January. I know it’s not long away but when you sense there is something wrong with you’re body and are so keen to have a baby, it feels like such a long time to wait! X

Rosiestraws · 16/11/2022 16:51

Hi ladies, I was thinking of joining this thread yesterday as I have a 10 luteal phase (if that! some months it's about 10 days from the peak LH test and so I'm imagining more like 9 days) and I'm 12 dpo today and I've just got a positive test! I can't believe it and tbh I'm petrified of a chemical or miscarriage as I'm 36 and I've got diminished ovarian reserve so I've been freezing eggs last year and this year, only getting 1 egg a cycle and all of that infertility type stuff. But, for now, it appears to have worked...

To answer your question @JuniperandI re symptoms, I haven't really had anything which is why I'm so shocked it's a positive result. Boobs felt a bit tender on and off last few days but not even as bad as the usual PMS days. I have had thrush (sorry if TMI) which I wondered if it was due to the hormones. I also was using the Mira fertility monitor so I know my progesterone is (or at least yday when I last tested) pretty high too so I assumed all could be linked. Also been quite gassy for the last few days and I've read that's a symptom.

Since I found out this morning I've felt sick and nauseous all day but I think that's more likely to be shock and anxiety about it all going wrong, than morning sickness. I'm prone to health anxiety since covid (grr) so I'm trying not to worry too much.. think I maaaay have felt a hint of cramps on and off today as well but really barely there.. I'll be on tentertooks until scans etc..
