Short luteal phase?

Hi ladies

I have a short LP, about 9-10 days. Anyone else in the same boat? Have you managed to get pregnant with a short LP? Any advice would be very welcome!

I say 'just have to wait and see' as if I'm totally chill about this whole thing but I'm driving myself demented trying to figure out if I actually ovulated or not😅

EmmRach · 08/11/2022 11:17

Haha @Mugascauld you made me giggle. God yeah, the whole thing is enough to drive you mad.
Have you OPK'd this month?

Great to know you had a heartbeat at 6+1 - that must have been really special! Thanks for the info. Hope I make it that far and it's the same for me!!

Holding all my fingers and toes crossed that Natural cycles was correct and you had an earlier O, with a longer LP!! 🤞🏻

Btw, you probably know... but I was looking into a couple of wearables for bbt that work much better if you have disturbed sleep. They are rather expensive though... so would have been a bit of a splurge for me anyway. There is one called tempdrop, also the Oura ring and also the new Apple Watch tracks bbt too!

Mugascauld · 08/11/2022 11:52

@EmmRach have I opk'd...only like three times a day since CD5😂 I've eased off to just once a day since my peak on CD14 but still testing once a day just to be sure I'm not missing anything. My temp increases/Natural Cycles app line up with my OPKs so all signs are pointing to having O'd but yeah I just don't really trust my temps. NC say to temp after your longest stretch of sleep if you're up with a baby so sometimes I'm temping at 1:30am or 4:30am or 6am...not very consistent. But my temps in my follicular phase have been consistent, and so far it's looking consistent for luteal phase....but we shall see!🙃
Yes I'm considering the Oura ring, might see how the next couple of cycles go before I invest but I think it's something that could really help me.

EmmRach · 08/11/2022 11:55

Oh good!! Well if OPK and natural cycles line up then that seems like a good sign!!
It's all blooming witch craft though isn't it, and I feel like the more science you try and apply the more confusing it gets!!

BCxx · 08/11/2022 18:18

@EmmRach I’m sure you’ll be fine, I always wondered what happened about those scans if you ended up wanting to cancel. I had one with my little boy and I booked it the morning I got my BFP I think 😂 luckily all was fine! I think I was 6 weeks 5 days or something in the end up but there was a heartbeat. It can be so touch and go right up til 7/8 weeks I think. So hard to hold off though when you’re just desperate to see!!

EmmRach · 08/11/2022 21:56

@BCxx that's totally it. Yeah, I'll just rock up and hope it's long enough! 😅

DesertSnow · 09/11/2022 16:52

Honestly I disappear for a few days and you get a BFP! Huge congrats @EmmRach I'm thrilled for you 😘Totally get that you're taking each day as it comes, but that's wonderful news.

I had the best wedding day and a lovely minimoon. It coincided with start of fertile window so we've basically DTD every day for the last few days. Looking at my BBT there is a slight raise today which might mean I OV'd yesterday, but not sure - it would be really early for me at CD18 as I usually O CD20-22. So it may just not have happened yet - temp rise could be due to a bad night's sleep (cat returned from cattery and was crying outside our bedroom door all night!) Think we'll continue to DTD every day until ovulation is confirmed - previous cycles we've done every other day and that didn't achieve anything... plus we're very much in the honeymoon phase so it's not exactly a chore...

@BCxx I've held off on agnus cactus for similar reasons, but it is still on my list of things to try.

Sorry, think I've missed lots of messages - sorry if AF arrived for anyone. I'll be more active now that I'm back from wedding/minimoon.

EmmRach · 09/11/2022 17:05

@BCxx fab!! Great to hear. I'm just going to get it booked then. It's worth the £60. And I've read on the reviews if it's too early they rebook you for the week after for free.

Ahhh!! @DesertSnow - you're back!! So happy you had a lovely day and are in that newlywed bliss. What a great way to try and make a baby 🥰 honestly I've got even my eyeballs crossed for you for this month because it would just be the most romantic thing!! We DTD every night in my window last month, and that obviously worked. Not saying it was directly that.... but I don't think it hurt!

@GabbyGal how did your GP appointment hi on Monday?

All still going well with me. Getting a steady line progression. Still not exactly a dye stealer but hopefully will be more like that in a few days. 16DPO today.

BCxx · 09/11/2022 19:49

@DesertSnow congratulations on the wedding, hope you had a great time away too. My friend conceived the week after her wedding so it’s definitely possible 🙊 yeah I don’t even really know what the drawbacks of agnus castus are but I’m a bit scared to take it!

@EmmRach yeah definitely! That’s good you’re going to one that offers you another scan for free. I was laughing reading one the other day (when I was getting ahead of myself) when it said you get charged a £25 surcharge if it’s twins 😂 how unfair from the word go!

DesertSnow · 09/11/2022 20:07

@BCxx oh how lovely for your friend. It would be a dream come true to conceive this cycle, but with my short LP I think it's just a dream to be honest. Of course it is possible, as @EmmRach is a great example, but the odds are against us for that and a few other reasons.

Agnus castus has such a mixed bag of reviews - some say it really regulated their cycles - esp. LP, but I've also read that it can mess with ovulation and to avoid if you're ovulating regulalry. So who knows what to think? I'm keeping it on the back burner for now and trying other things first.

BCxx · 09/11/2022 20:16

@DesertSnow yeah if you can get the LP issue sorted or get ovulation brought forward any hopefully you will be lucky 🤞🏼 I seem to be ovulating every month but it was just quite late the first couple of months after the pill. I’m going to hold off though as I think cd16 this month was good and should give me enough time til AF around cd28. Don’t know whether that was down to the maca root or just my body sorting itself out

GabbyGal · 10/11/2022 11:37

@EmmRach So kind of you to check in! So I saw my GP on Monday and my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) was a bit higher than the normal range which wouldn’t be too much of an issue if I wasn’t TTC, but as I am TTC my TSH needs to be at the lower end of the normal range so my medication dosage has been increased and my bloods will be checked again just before Christmas. Hopefully this will do the trick! 🤞

@DesertSnow Congratulations, so glad you had a great wedding day. One of my best friends got pregnant on her honeymoon straight after her wedding and she had been TTC for about 8 months the year before. I’m convinced it was because she was so happy and relaxed after the wedding!

DesertSnow · 10/11/2022 17:57

Ah thanks everyone, I'm definitely in that lovely honeymoon phase! 🤗I'm sure it'll be back to earth with a bump when I go back to work next Monday. It would just be incredible to conceive this cycle, it's nice to hear stories of people conceiving just after their weddings. You never know!

I need a 3rd temp rise to confirm, but it looks like I may have ovulated early (for me) this month - CD18. Usually I ovulate between CD20 and CD22. Never ovulated so early before since I've been tracking (since April). Wonder if that will make a difference to my LP this month... here's hoping.

Looking to start EPO from CD1 of next cycle, and might also try seed cycling - it's expensive but also good for you in other ways so am managing to sell that to myself 😂

@BCxx yeah it may be your body adjusting after contraception. Interesting about the maca root - putting that on my long list!

@GabbyGal Great they're being proactive about your TSH, hopefuly that sorts it for you and you get your BFP before too long!

EmmRach · 10/11/2022 21:42

@GabbyGal good that you checked then!! Really hoping that does the trick for you. How long does it usually take to adjust?

@DesertSnow O at CD 18 would be fab!! Hoping for that high temp again tomorrow!! I do wonder if it's the vitamins that I took that helped this month? Could be that they've helped you too?! Let's see! And if not, you've got some good options to try next cycle!

@BCxx CD 16 for your O is great. I wonder if it's the maca root or your body re-adjusting... so annoying that it's not science based. There are so many elements to it all. I feel like it's more Witch craft than science!!

That's so funny, extra for twins when you didn't even know you were having them! Hilarious!!

My best friend is 8 weeks ish and she's just found out she's having twins!!! I'm only two ish weeks behind her. So got my fingers crossed our little ones can grow up together. I'm starting to get more excited now. I was doing ok staying grounded before. But if something happens how I'll be absolutely crushed. My husband has had his head on my belly talking to it today 🤣 so we're not exactly playing it cool like I wanted 🤦🏻‍♀️

BCxx · 10/11/2022 23:18

@EmmRach aw that will be nice to have them at a similar time, I found that made my maternity leave so much more enjoyable last time when I had 3 or 4 friends all having babies within 3 months of each other. I did find unexpectedly it caused pressure later on as they started to sit up, crawl, walk, talk etc and always made me way more paranoid if he wasn’t doing something when someone else could 🙈 I told myself I wouldn’t be like that but it’s honestly so hard not to!

I’m telling myself if I get pregnant this cycle I’ll basically just brush the information aside, kid on I’m not and continue on til the 12 week scan, realistically I’ll have a double buggy bought before the test has even dried 😂

EmmRach · 11/11/2022 08:09

@BCxx actual lols. We're terrible aren't we. Getting ahead of ourselves!! Nevermind. Positive mental attitude - things are going to be ok!!
Because she's having twins I feel like I can't moan about feeling tired or sick because I know she will have double the trouble. But she's so lovely I know she wouldn't think of it that way.... but anyway, small price to pay for the support and the friendship our little ones will hopefully have!!

buttercupbee · 11/11/2022 14:16

@EmmRach that’s lovely you will be pregnant together 🥰 one of my best friends is about 8 weeks pregnant and I would love for us to be pregnant at the same time x

DesertSnow · 11/11/2022 15:56

@EmmRach High temp again this morning so does indeed look like I OV'd on CD18 which is worth celebrating even if nothing comes of it. Now 3DPO so waiting to see how long my LP is this cycle. Unfortunately I've come down with flu so not expecting all the BD'ing to have worked, but it's good practise 😂Hope you're still feeling good, how many DPO are you now? Are you still testing every day? How lovely you'll be pregnant same time as your friend.

GabbyGal · 11/11/2022 19:16

@EmmRach Usually they would say to wait 12 weeks before testing bloods again so I’m hoping to see improvement in 6 weeks but know it could take longer. I’ll keep TTC because my TSH isn’t abnormally high where it might cause a miscarriage, but I likely won’t get pregnant until it has come down a bit more so I just need to manage my expectations for the next couple of months.

How lovely to have a friend at the same stage as you! I was the first of all of my friends to have a baby, the next one didn’t come along until my maternity leave was almost over and we were all in covid lockdown by then. Really hoping to have a maternity leave buddy next time. And don’t worry about moaning, sick is sick and tired is tired regardless of how many babies you’re having!

@DesertSnow Oh no I can’t believe you’re sick now when it looks like you’ve ovulated earlier than usual! Hope you feel better soon.

BCxx · 11/11/2022 20:54

Do you drink in the tww? I’ve had an awful week so poured myself a glass of wine (with lemonade in it) and we’re out for dinner tomorrow so I was going to maybe have a glass of wine then too since it could be my last chance but with my son I didn’t drink at all in the tww and remember feeling relieved that I hadn’t when I found out. I’m thinking I should maybe just drive tomorrow and ditch the wine. I’m not enjoying my glass of wine tonight for thinking about it 😂 I’m 5/6dpo today

JuniperandI · 12/11/2022 08:07

@BCxx I do. Technically you're not pregnant yet so a glass of wine won't hurt!

OP posts:
JuniperandI · 12/11/2022 08:27

I am officially in my TWW (or 9 day wait) 🤞🤞
I've taken evening primrose oil before ovulation and I'm taking ashwaganda and vitamin C (alongside Seven Seas pre-conception vitamin). My ovulation was earlier than my app predicated so hopefully my LP will be longer than 9 days this cycle!

When is everyone else due to ovulate?

OP posts:
GabbyGal · 12/11/2022 08:49

@BCxx I agree with @JuniperandI I don’t stop drinking, a couple of glasses of wine won’t hurt.

@JuniperandI That sounds promising, fingers crossed for you! My app is predicting ovulation on the 21st which is CD18 so we’ll see.

EmmRach · 12/11/2022 09:17

@buttercupbee fingers crossed you get to have that too lovely, I do think it's going to be fab.

@DesertSnow actually brilliant news!! Even if it's not your month, like you say, this is a win isn't it!! Just hoping AF doesn't show (at all) early to mess up your lovely lengthened LP!! Don't worry about the flu. I actually had Covid when we conceived and was really quite poorly with it. So obviously didn't make a difference for us! Hope you feel better soon? How are you doing post wedding / mini moon? I found myself feeling quite blue when it was all over. I hope you're managing to keep the good vibes going!

@GabbyGal that's frustrating that you think it's unlikely over the next couple of cycles. Hopefully there is some more hope in sight though once the meds have done their thing!!? September babies conceived at Xmas right?!September babies are ideal for school!! And you're right, I shouldn't worry about comparing, she wouldn't think of it that way at all, but I'm just a daft over thinker like that 😅

@BCxx yeah I'd deffo drink in the "tww" I had a scan at the hospital once in my tww (one I couldn't be pg for) and she said I wasn't pregnant unless I had missed a period. So if I could have that, one or 2 glasses of wine won't hurt I'm sure.

@JuniperandI - amazing news on the earlier O. I honestly think it's the vitamins!! I really think they helped for me!! Where abouts are you in the wait?

I'm still feeling pretty good. A very slight bit of nausea but nothing major. The tiredness is real... but I can absolutely cope with that. These cold dark nights call for early bed times anyway 🥰 1
I'm 19DPO, so I've officially known I've been pregnant 9 days now!! My tests are gradually getting darker. So all good signs. I've been trying to figure out how long a dodgy womb lining / low progesterone causes a higher than normal risk of miscarriage for. It looks like it's until the placenta takes over... but I've found differing info on that right from 6 weeks to 12. So that's not been super helpful. Anyone know anything about that??

LS888 · 12/11/2022 10:45

Can I join the chat? I had a miscarriage in July at 11 weeks but measured less than 7 weeks. Just started trying again. The last time it happened within 2 months so we didn’t use ovulation tests. Had two months of just trying and will see what happens. This month I have tested everyday and just had a 0.96 reading this morning on second morning wee. Last night I tested as 0.48 (my highest to that point!). I was beginning to give up hope as it was day 21 and I had been testing since day 5, just to ensure I didn’t miss it. Does 21 days class me as having a short LP? Normally my cycles are 28 days but last month I had a 32 day cycle. I would appreciate any advise on supplements. I will have to start doing a bit of research!
