Hi ladies

I have a short LP, about 9-10 days. Anyone else in the same boat? Have you managed to get pregnant with a short LP? Any advice would be very welcome!

@EmmRach congratulations on hearing the heart beat. Great news! Is the 6weeks 2 days counted from conception? Trying to work if I could have an early scan the week of Christmas. But Christmas Day will be exactly 6 weeks since ovulation. Too early?

EmmRach · 25/11/2022 07:10

@LS888 thanks lovely 🥰

So I was 7 weeks exactly as per the first day of my last period when I had the scan done.

In a typical cycle ovulation happens two weeks after the first day of your period. So the healthcare system, assuming people don't know exactly when they ovulate, they count from your period and add two weeks on to how old the baby actually is. So saying I'm '7 weeks', the baby has reaaaaly only been growing for 5 weeks. However they say 7 even though it's really only 5 because most people don't know when they ovulate so it's just easier for them to standardise this way.

However for meeee given my short LP I ovulate much later in the month. So I knew that when I said I was '7 weeks' as per my period, I knew the baby had only been growing for 4 weeks (+2 weeks for accounting, making me 6 weeks.)

Gosh it's early and if any of that makes sense I'll be surprised. Haha.

What I'm saying is, you will need to be at least 7 weeks as per your period for an early scan. Because if you ovulate late you will probably only measure 6 weeks (including those 2 weeks did accounting) and that's the point where you can potentially see a heartbeat from. But 6 weeks can still be too early for some. We took a bit of a gamble.
I say get one booked!! I know ours can still end in tears but I'm feeling a lot more confident after knowing it's alive and growing 🥰

Also just re-read this. Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs x

LS888 · 25/11/2022 07:27

@EmmRach no thank you that’s helpful 🥰

Because I ovulated on day 21 it was 3 weeks after my period. So I’m actually only just under 2 weeks but the GP would say almost 5 due to the date of my last period. So Christmas Day will be 9 weeks according to the GP but only 6 really (due to my actual ovulation date). I’m not sure if that makes sense either!!

I found out about my last (missed) miscarriage at a scan at 11 weeks so also not sure if booking one early will reassure me or if it’s bad news I will hear it a few days before Christmas with everyone here. 🙈 but it would also be great to share the good news if it is good news!! Sorry anxiety has kicked in I think!!

EmmRach · 25/11/2022 07:43

@LS888 I get you... gosh, that's a tough call actually. How to play it!!! I think you have to assume the best until proven otherwise? Maybe try get one booked in between Xmas and new year? Then you could tell close family at new year instead??
However you play it, my fingers are firmly crossed for you!!

I'm now considering a private NIPT test. And seeing if I can work the dates to get that before Xmas. 😅🤦🏻‍♀️ I can see me getting very poor and a bit addicted to the reassurance haha

BCxx · 25/11/2022 16:46

@EmmRach I was like that last time and got one early scan. Luckily was able to get the normal ultrasound and didn’t need the internal one (did end up with it at like 20 odd weeks for my placenta in the end up 🤦🏼‍♀️) but I thought I would happily pay for a scan every few weeks until I saw somewhere that extra scans aren’t good for the baby. But then the early pregnancy units seem to do extra ones and it’s not a concern to them 🤷🏼‍♀️

DesertSnow · 25/11/2022 17:30

@EmmRach oh how wonderful you got to see the heartbeat! What fabulous news, you must be over the moon. Interesting they dated you 6 days behind - did they update your due date or is that for the NHS to do at the 12 week scan? I ovulated day 18 so expecting I'm technically a bit behind how I'm counting it in weeks. How do you feel?

@LS888 I know what you mean about anxiety about scans. If I'm still pregnant I'm going to book one for when I'll be 8 weeks by LMP, which will be a few days before Christmas. DH is desperate to tell his family at Christmas and I'd rather tell them than have them all guess (which would be very likely otherwise!) so just have to hope it's good news. If it's bad news the timing would be incredibly hard, but we have to take a leap of faith at some point I guess - there's no certainty with pregnancy.

LS888 · 25/11/2022 17:38

@DesertSnow yes it’s hard to know what to do. We have my hubby’s family coming for Christmas the weekend before actual Christmas. So in another 3 weeks. He wants to tell them that weekend but it might be a bit soon. Maybe we can tell them on New Year’s Eve instead and book a scan between Christmas and new year all being well. Will just have hide the not drinking over that weekend!

BCxx · 25/11/2022 20:16

Cd11 and have EWCM, I do seem to get a lot of days of it (like 4 maybe) so in that case ovulation could be cd14/15, will be the earliest yet if it is🤞🏼 Going to try every day in a row now I think so there’s no possible reason I can’t be pregnant this time 😂

LS888 · 25/11/2022 20:18

@BCxx get on it!! 😂

BCxx · 25/11/2022 20:34

@LS888 the only place where it’s normal to tell strangers that sort of information and they are nothing but encouraging 😂

LS888 · 25/11/2022 20:37

Haha 😂too right! Only on here! What are you waiting for…

buttercupbee · 26/11/2022 07:57

9DPO today, last few cycles I’ve had spotting at this point then full blown AF at 10DPO. Really hoping I don’t get any spotting today because even if I’m not pregnant that will mean my LP is getting longer 🤞🏼 although desperately hoping for a BFP this month!

LS888 · 26/11/2022 08:05

🤞🏻fingers crossed for you @buttercupbee!

I’ve just had my BFP confirmed! 🥰 a digital 1-2 weeks and another clearer line on an easy@home. Reality is sinking in now that we are pregnant!

Short luteal phase?
BCxx · 26/11/2022 09:08

@LS888 ahh amazing!! Congratulations 🎉

DesertSnow · 26/11/2022 10:24

@LS888 oh brilliant, congratulations! Great to see successes on this thread! Telling people at NYE would be a lovely way to start the year.

@BCxx Get on it girl! 😂We dtd every day in my fw this cycle - before that it was every other day. Don't know if that contributed, but you never know! Have fun!

@buttercupbee absolutely, fingers crossed for a BFP, but if not then a longer LP! Good luck!

buttercupbee · 26/11/2022 10:37

@LS888 thank you, and congratulations! Amazing to see so many BFPs on this thread, it gives the rest of us hope!

@DesertSnow thank you 💕

BCxx · 26/11/2022 11:43

@DesertSnow feel like it instantly wasn’t that fun because I was just thinking we need to get this done 🤣 aiming for 4 days in a row, think that will cover the full window!

Sierra26 · 26/11/2022 20:29

Hi all, sorry for posting once then staying quiet - travelling home from honeymoon!

My honeymoon was CD8-16 (should have been perfect eh?!) but this was my first month using OPKs and I’ve not registered a positive ovulation result at all. We’ve still DTD and had an amazing trip away, but I’m a bit frustrated not to have registered my peak. Maybe I didn’t ovulate due to hot climate, different routine? Or maybe the tests were poor… or maybe I’ll actually have a late ovulation date or not at all! ive ordered different tests online and hope to pick up the peak next month, although we won’t be together over xmas so Dec will be out for trying.

Ive also found it a bit weird ‘forcing’ DTD around the expected ovulation date. Any advice on how to approach that? We are “trying”, but we’ve never planned DTD before so I guess I need to trigger a more practical conversation about it all! It feels weird all being on me to understand, track etc.

@DesertSnow i think you asked last week what DPO I start spotting - I actually don’t know as still have no idea what day I ovulate!

xx

Catdaft · 26/11/2022 20:53

Had a luteal phase of 8-10 days and have a 10 month old baby girl. Took me a while to get pregnant but it happened

lemonyfox · 27/11/2022 17:34

I can add my experience, in case it helps anyone.

Conceived my first baby with a very short (and weird) luteal phase. Came off the implant and my cycles were all over the shop, anything from 17-50 days. It took 5 months to somehow conceive and my luteal phases in those months were 4, 7, 5 and 8 days respectively. Then got pregnant!

Since having a baby my cycles have regulated again to 31 days every month but still with a short luteal phase of 8-10 days varying.

Good luck everyone 😊

buttercupbee · 27/11/2022 18:03

10DPO today and had a slight pink/brown tinge when wiping earlier. Crossing my fingers for implantation bleeding but I know realistically it’s AF coming. I usually start spotting at 9DPO though so trying to take comfort in the fact my LP is a bit longer this cycle!

buttercupbee · 27/11/2022 18:04

@Catdaft @lemonyfox thank you for sharing your positive stories 🥰

DesertSnow · 27/11/2022 18:23

@Sierra26 Congrats on your wedding 😊I was incredibly lucky that my fw fell over my minimoon earlier this month and it's when we ended up conceiving - I think being so relaxed and happy definitely helped, so fingers crossed for you. Are you just taking OPKs to track ovulation? It's very easy to miss your peak. It's best when you combine a couple of methods. BBT was the most helpful for me - I often missed my peak on OPKs and would have assumed I wasn't ovulating. Or it may be that you are ovulating later - it seems to be a pattern that ladies with a short LP ovulate late. I was usually ovulating between days 20 and 22 of my cycle.

@Catdaft @lemonyfox congrats and thanks for sharing your positive stories!😍

@buttercupbee fingers crossed it's implantation - but even if not, it's a great success that your LP is slightly longer!

Carlotta27 · 27/11/2022 20:53

@lemonyfox thank you for sharing the positive story from someone who also had really short LPs at times

and thank you to the others for sharing progress BFP news :)

im on day 12 now of a usually very short 19/20 day cycle and still getting completely negative OPKs! Really worrying as it will mean either a very short LP again or that I’ve had an anovulatory cycle (which wouldn’t surprise me as I let this really stress me out). I’m pinning all my hopes on the fertility Dr I see in Jan as my short cycles and short LP do seem on another level x

buttercupbee · 28/11/2022 07:18

11DPO and just got this on a frer this morning. I can’t believe it 🥹

Short luteal phase?
