Clomid TTC

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone who is currently TTC with Clomid fancied joining a TTC thread? I've had a look and can't see a recent one.

My husband and I have been trying for approx 2 years. I have PCOS and also had a congenital uterine defect (complete septum) which was operated on and fixed in November 2021.

We paid for a private appointment with a gynaecologist yesterday who prescribed 6 months of Clomid. I'm starting off cycle 1 with 50mg and will have a transvaginal ultrasound around CD 10-14.

My period is due in about 3 weeks but ofc with PCOS this is approximate and it might be early/late. My consultant also prescribed norithesterone to bring on a period if it's delayed. I'm tempted to start it soon so I can get cracking with Clomid - patience isn't my strong point!

Would be great to hear from anyone else in a similar position and hopefully share our BFPs in the coming months. TTC can be a lonely time and I've decided to not tell my family/friends about Clomid as it upsets me too much when I have to tell them I'm still not pregnant.

@Harper02 im in Northern Ireland too! Have you went private? Two constulants I saw at my climic mentioned Letrozole (one who scanned me actually said he was a 'Letrozole man' and wouldnt have even prescribed Clomid!

TTCX2 · 30/11/2022 15:53

Good for you @SusieNI for requesting that, that sounds positive and hopefully this is the one for you 🤞haven’t heard of that podcast but it’s really nice there are these things out there for support. @Harper02 would love to follow your TTC Instagram if you’re comfortable sharing? I think that’s a really healthy outlet and is amazing for other women experiencing the same!

Harper02 · 30/11/2022 15:58

@lucymc11 I'm keen too, hopefully we can!🤞🏼 thanks for the BFN podcast suggestion, I'm cleaning my house too to bottom right now so will start listening now🤣😁

@SusieNI aw no way, where abouts? Wonder if we are local to eachother! Which clinic are you with? I'd love the opportunity to try letrozole if my clinic would let me.

@TTCX2 yes of course, feel free. It's @pcosandme.x

SusieNI · 30/11/2022 16:22

@Harper02 I'm from Armagh :) whereabouts are you? I go to TFP Belfast?

I will definitely have a look on your Instagram too🥰

XMoonChildx · 01/12/2022 00:17

What is letrozole and how does it differ to clomid ?
Does anyone mind sharing how old they are ?
I'm 37. No children, previous pregnancy when I was 21 but ended in mc but i never achieved a pregnancy again. Was diagnosed at 27 with pcos

SusieNI · 01/12/2022 09:10

Its very simiiar to clomid but some doctors dispute its more effective!

Sure I'm 34, no previous kids or pregnancies (or even ovulations possibly!) Diagnosed with PCOS when I was 19 and was on the pill until just before my wedding 18 months ago

Harper02 · 01/12/2022 09:33

@XMoonChildx I'm 29, no kids/previous pregnancies. Diagnosed with PCOS a year ago. My mum had it too!

lucymc11 · 01/12/2022 09:51

I'm 27 and found out I had PCOS over two years ago. My mum had PCOS too and me and my brothers are all clomid babies!

@lucymc11 aww I'm a clomid baby too🥹🤣 I wish I knew how hereditary it was and I would've got tested in my early 20's

lucymc11 · 01/12/2022 09:56

@Harper02 aww really!! Yeah I'm very lucky my mum knew it was hereditary and told me to get checked for PCOS before I started TTC. Lucky I had that scan because they also found out I had a uterine defect so I had to get an operation to fix that as well before we could start trying. I honestly laugh now when I thought I would come off the pill and get pregnant in the first two months max. 🤣

@Harper02 have you ever experienced the clomid working one month then not the next?

1st cycle I didn’t ovulate

2nd cycle I ovulated

this 3rd cycle I haven’t tested cos I wanted to just DTD every other day and trust the process but I’ve had next to no symptoms this cycle and have a gut feeling it hasn’t worked 🙁

so sorry you’re having to have so many unsuccessful cycles it’s soul destroying isn’t it, each month and each test just chips away at you doesn’t it ☹️

MK85 · 01/12/2022 14:47

I know provera dosent have a direct effect on your cycle and only mimics it but rather strangely after taking provera last month I've a rare regular period this month (only a 23 day cycle tho)
I've did opks for years and never peaked and both bloods all confirmed I'm not ovulating. I don't know if I ever have but I wonder if I did ovulate this month on my own, around days 10 or 11 of cycle 🤔
I had really bad pain radiating from my right ovary area , went on for about 2 days, initially wondered if I perhaps had an infection or something from hsg and was going to get it checked out but then my boobs started aching and my nipples were killing me. I was also really in the mood to DTD .. which is not like me at all 😄
Sure enough I started having cramps and today AF arrived.
Since I only ever have 1 or 2 periods a year I wouldn't know what symptoms are experienced during stages of a regular cycle. I could totally be wrong but Its just a feeling I have.
I didn't test and even if I did ovulate we missed it since we didn't resume dtd until 2 or 3 days after my hsg.

Jadeybabes86 · 01/12/2022 20:56

@MK85 well after my 1st cycle failed I needed provera and sure enough the cycle following the provera I ovulated, could be coincidence but this cycle no provera as bled naturally and I don’t think I’ve ovulated, I could be wrong as I haven’t been doing OPK’s this cycle but by now I’d either be pregnant (took a 6 day early test yesterday BFN) or due on and boobs and nipples would be sore and I’ve got nothing 🤔

MK85 · 02/12/2022 01:31

@Jadeybabes86 isn't that strange? I don't think it's a coincidence that you've experienced the same thing

MK85 · 02/12/2022 01:36

@SusieNI what is your experience with tfp ?
If I'm still not pregnant in next few months that's where we're planning on going to for further treatment. I don't think I could hack the nhs treatment waiting list. Ive already done enough waiting. I was referred early 2019 and we've got as far as clomid

Harper02 · 02/12/2022 07:41

@Jadeybabes86 I didn't ovulate on my first cycle but have ovulated every cycle since 🤔 maybe you need a higher dose. What dose are you on again? Xx

Jadeybabes86 · 02/12/2022 10:05

@Harper02 im on 100mg always have been, I can’t rule out ovulation this month for sure but I just get the feeling I haven’t, month one for sure I was over stimulated and I thinks it’s cos they put me straight on 100mg 🤔

Desperatelyboredhousewife · 02/12/2022 10:07

So this happened this morning. 14dpo on first round of Clomid and progesterone. We've been trying for 13 months so I can't believe it. Haven't even told my partner yet, I think I'm in shock, I just took the test and went to work! Fingers, toes and everything else crossed it sticks.

Clomid TTC
Harper02 · 02/12/2022 10:34

Aw wow @Desperatelyboredhousewife congrats! 🤞🏼 quick question, how did you get the progesterone with clomid? I've had 8 failed cycles and wondering if I maybe need to do the same...

lucymc11 · 02/12/2022 10:37

Congratulations @Desperatelyboredhousewife!! ❤️

Your first cycle too - amazing! Wishing you all the best for your pregnancy. X

Desperatelyboredhousewife · 02/12/2022 10:41

Thank you @lucymc11 @Harper02 I really can't believe it!

I saw a private fertility specialist and explained my issues (low progesterone indicated on 2 day 21 tests, short luteal phase which pointed to weak ovulation/anovulation but I just said I had a feeling I was ovulating) he prescribed 3 months Clomid day 2-6 and progesterone day 14-28. I now don't know if I should keep taking the progesterone or not! I'm going to call him today.

TTCX2 · 02/12/2022 11:18

Oh congratulations @Desperatelyboredhousewife 🥲❤️🥺 august babies pending!

@Harper02 I’ve heard a lot about women taking progesterone so definitely worth asking.

MK85 · 02/12/2022 15:37

@Desperatelyboredhousewife wow first cycle. That's amazing!

MK85 · 02/12/2022 15:42

@Harper02 I've already asked my nhs consultant about progesterone since one of them said my levels were really low but I was refused it

SusieNI · 02/12/2022 15:52

@Desperatelyboredhousewife aw amazing congratulations!!

@MK85 aw tbh it hasnt been great :( we actually had to send in a complaint to them but since then things have been better. We were going to move elsewhere but it was such a long process to even get to the stage we are ag with them the thought of moving was just not appealing. So we have agreed we will go as far as Clomid with them and if we need anything more hardcore we will take ourselves elsewhere, maybe somewhere over the border as there are so many more options down size! In NI you literally have the choice of whay...3 clinics? Its so bad 😭
