Clomid TTC

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone who is currently TTC with Clomid fancied joining a TTC thread? I've had a look and can't see a recent one.

My husband and I have been trying for approx 2 years. I have PCOS and also had a congenital uterine defect (complete septum) which was operated on and fixed in November 2021.

We paid for a private appointment with a gynaecologist yesterday who prescribed 6 months of Clomid. I'm starting off cycle 1 with 50mg and will have a transvaginal ultrasound around CD 10-14.

My period is due in about 3 weeks but ofc with PCOS this is approximate and it might be early/late. My consultant also prescribed norithesterone to bring on a period if it's delayed. I'm tempted to start it soon so I can get cracking with Clomid - patience isn't my strong point!

Would be great to hear from anyone else in a similar position and hopefully share our BFPs in the coming months. TTC can be a lonely time and I've decided to not tell my family/friends about Clomid as it upsets me too much when I have to tell them I'm still not pregnant.

@xFlowerBeanx hey, I had bloods done twice and then an internal scan before they would prescribe me clomid. They also tested my husband. Seems a bit strange that you didn't get a more recent scan to check ovaries and also womb lining

lucymc11 · 16/10/2022 17:56

Hi @xFlowerBeanx I had a blood test and ultrasound checking my ovaries and womb to diagnose PCOS and then was prescribed clomid.

Did you have a transvaginal ultrasound to check your ovaries?

@xFlowerBeanx i had scans and a dye test before starting clomid

Jadeybabes86 · 17/10/2022 09:49

These are on offer for £17 in tesco at the min so thought I’d let you know in case you wanted to torture yourself like I’ve decided to do 😂

@Harper02 yeah that would great.
Are you on the list with regional for the initial consultation appointment or waiting on treatment list?

@xFlowerBeanx
I'm not sure what is the normal protocol before clomid is prescribed but i didnt have any scan to assess my womb either.
The only tests they ordered for me are as follows:
Bloods during cycle day 2 hormone profile and day 21 progesterone
Ultrasound of kidney and liver only ( I think the scan was to confirm that my elevated androgens are a result of pcos and not from a gland )
And that's it
After that I was sent off with 6 months clomid without any further checks. They never checked my womb for any abnormalities or to look at lining ,
much to my amazement, since my periods are extremely irregular and i often go months and months without a bleed. I've complained about constant pain and continuous abnormal bleeding so in my opinion a scan to access my womb should be essential based on that alone.
Clomid was also prescribed before my partner even had his semen test results reviewed.
I dont think that is the normal and seems very much dependant on consultant.
Others have had more tests done prior , which I feel are necessary.
I was essentially dumped by my consultant after being given my prescription and I had to complain.
I've now been referred to a new consultant whom I'll be seeing tomorrow. Hopefully that will go better for me.

My advice based on my own experience is if you feel something is not right then don't let them fob you off

xFlowerBeanx · 17/10/2022 21:39

Thank you all for answering. I don't know how to tag.
No I have not had a transvaginal ultrasound. They seem to have used the one scan I had done on my ovaries in the past. Once they got my mans sperm check results in they went ahead with the clomid. I guess the issue is with me but without the tests how can they sure what it is exactly. It could be more than just not ovulating. We've been having regular unprotected sex for over 6 years . Together 8 and there were quite a few times during those 2 years we didn't bother so how likely would it be that I haven't ovulated in all those years? My periods used to be regular. Now it's mostly every other month.
I'd feel alot more comfortable with all the proper tests before . I have read that if the womb lining isn't right an embryo won't implant so seems important to have but also I have no idea if my tubes are even functional. How could they possibly know that without a test. It seems irresponsible! If there was a blockage or something wouldn't that just put you at risk of an ectopic pregnancy?
They said if I didn't have a period come on in next 4 weeks to come back . I might ring them and use that excuse just to speak to them and find out if I'm going to be having them first

Hi Ladies - I have a probably super stupid question but I’m sure you can help!

so cycle 1 & 2 my OPK test didn’t go above .8 (testing twice a day so don’t think I missed a peak) but temp went up and then had a period so can only presume I ovulation.

cycle 3 - finally got 1.3 yesterday Which was nice to see.

so the question is do you think it’s more likely to get pregnant when OPK are a “normal” peak numbers or is it as basic as if you ovulate you ovulate?

sorry if this is super dim! But this seems like a little progress x

lucymc11 · 19/10/2022 19:56

Hi @Ldougal92 I had been wondering the same thing. My highest level was 0.8 this cycle and I wasn't sure if that was too low to ovulate. I did get a solid smiley on a Clearblue though so I think it must be high enough?

Glad you got a nice high reading yesterday - good luck for this cycle!

I think cycle 1 hasn't worked for me, I'm currently 10 dpo with no symptoms and I got a BFN today. I know it's still early days but not feeling very hopeful. Hope you're all ok X

Thanks Lucy - thanks for telling me re clear blue, that makes me a little certain that I have ovulated the last 2 cycles - I have found I have a short luteal phase, but have the consultant in 2 weeks so hoping they can help towards that before upping me to 100mg.

Sorry to hear you had a negative test - having everything crossed that in the next few days you see a positive :)

Jadeybabes86 · 20/10/2022 09:01

This is a 1st ever for me so small victory, even though the cheapie isn’t as strong as I’d thought it would be with CB indicating peak??

Im on cycle 2 and this time feels so much different to the last cycle, fingers crossed 🤞🏻

hope everyone is doing well I find it so hard not to research every symptom and every possibility throughout this process it’s actually consuming me at time 🤣

honestly if anyone sees my search history you would think I have gone mad - any little thing I am like eeeeek!

My new this is figuring out my due date each month - which to be honest is probably the most soul destroying thing ever... must stop doing that!!

Good luck everyone this month, I am day 1DPO - let the 2 weeks begin x

Jadeybabes86 · 20/10/2022 10:10

@Ldougal92 im obsessive anyway but this whole journey has amped up the crazy 10 fold 🤣

I keep telling myself to stay off the internet but I just have zero willpower 😂

oh 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 It’s BFP in two weeks time!!!

Ldougal92 · 21/10/2022 11:09

Morning All - another random question from me today! Do you symptoms change per cycle?

Cycle 1 /2 my boobs hurt (sooo much) the day before ovulation) and this cycle just nipple pain, boobs feel absolutely fine?

I know this probably makes ZERO difference to the likelihood of getting pregnant this month, but always nice to hear other peoples experiences x

Ldougal92 · 21/10/2022 11:27

@Bluejeanbaby91 - here you go x

Yup, I have different symptoms every damn month lol 🫠

Jadeybabes86 · 21/10/2022 15:01

@Ldougal92 yes 1st cycle didn’t ovulate and had awful symptoms, this cycle I ovulated and had left hand pain down below but only slight, my boobs have felt huge this cycle and for the past few days my nipples have gotten sensitive, and deffo felt ovulation cramps yesterday! I’ve felt better this cycle in myself and mentally than last 😂

Roughly how many days after finishing provera does a bleed come on

Jadeybabes86 · 22/10/2022 19:32

@MK85 4 max xxx

SusieNI · 22/10/2022 20:05

Hi there all :) I've just started my first cycle of Clomid, am day 3 into the tablets and am not a happy camper so far :( headaches, moody, bloated and worst AF I have ever had as Provera induced. Great to read so many of your stories to know we are all in a similiar boat 💕

SusieNI · 22/10/2022 20:06

@MK85 my bleed start 2 days after my last Provera tablet so pretty quickly!

MK85 · 23/10/2022 02:28

Thanks girls.
I went to see a new consultant a few days ago and he was alot more reassuring than the last. He didn't rush the appointment either, he spent an hour with me. He gave me a proper scan of my ovaries and womb and he's sending me for a hsg test straight away as soon as I'm done with a bleed. He's also prescribing me provera for long term use so I can have monthly bleeds.
We've made more progress in one day than my last consultant has done in 9 months

On round 2 of clomid and I am starting to lose hope a bit. This is day 13 (after taking pills day 5-9) and I have only a faint line on ovulation tests. Send all the good thoughts this way - especially that I will reach a good peak this round.

Sending you all the best of luck no matter what stage you are at this cycle!

It’s very disheartening isn’t it. I’m not sure if this helps but I ovulate between day 18-21 so plenty of time :)
im on cycle 3 and just started progesterone pesseries (the joys!) so I’m super hopefully this will be my month. I’m 5dpo and getting anxious.

Done lose heart! You ovulate 5-10 days after your last pill x
