Clomid TTC

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone who is currently TTC with Clomid fancied joining a TTC thread? I've had a look and can't see a recent one.

My husband and I have been trying for approx 2 years. I have PCOS and also had a congenital uterine defect (complete septum) which was operated on and fixed in November 2021.

We paid for a private appointment with a gynaecologist yesterday who prescribed 6 months of Clomid. I'm starting off cycle 1 with 50mg and will have a transvaginal ultrasound around CD 10-14.

My period is due in about 3 weeks but ofc with PCOS this is approximate and it might be early/late. My consultant also prescribed norithesterone to bring on a period if it's delayed. I'm tempted to start it soon so I can get cracking with Clomid - patience isn't my strong point!

Would be great to hear from anyone else in a similar position and hopefully share our BFPs in the coming months. TTC can be a lonely time and I've decided to not tell my family/friends about Clomid as it upsets me too much when I have to tell them I'm still not pregnant.

Hope everyone is well! Please could I get your thoughts on today's OPK? I'm CD16. Premom is saying this is is low but looks high to me. Do you think this could be my peak or does the line need to be darker?

I'm useless with OPKs 😰

I always thought your line had to be as dark or darker than the indication line, I’m yet to have one as dark or darker so I’ve given up testing, others with more testing experience may be more helpful though

good luck xxx

Thank you @Jadeybabes86. I've just taken a Clearblue and got my first smiley! Can't believe it. Time to get busy 🤣

MK85 · 12/10/2022 04:32

I started provera today. 105 days since my last cycle. 😒
I've been eagar to start it
( clomid aside) more for the fact that I literally can't cope with the shitty pain and feelings in my stomach and back anymore from not having my period. Daily chores have become difficult these past few weeks due to the discomfort and pain. I cannot wait for my period to start to flush my system out and relieve me .
I tried to hold off as long as possible to time it with my gynae appointment on monday as I wanted some advice.

Here's the current situation.

Clomid has still been on hold 😔
So after we got back from our trip , we discussed starting provera followed by clomid that week , however, OH got a call from his gp regarding his last repeat SA results . Needless to say, the results weren't great . ( we had a private test done several years ago which came back perfectly normal but clearly something has changed dramatically in that time
🤷‍♀️ )
Based on those results the lab said he should be referred to the fertility clinc. 🙉
He did have a bit of a nag at the gp that its been over 3 years now and were not really any further forward . The gp said that she was going to refer us to the nhs fertility clinic. She also re-referred us back to gynae so we can discuss this with them, not sure if there's a point since they are a bunch of useless feckers. She said there might be no point in taking clomid based on his results but it's upto us if we want to take it while we're waiting.
We've talked about it and decided we are still going to go ahead with clomid but we're uncertain to follow through with the full 6 months advised . Ive thought about doing 3 months, just to see.
Im not sure what i have to lose..other than my eggs.
If there's an issue with the baby juice do I really want to unnecessary waste extra eggs at my age .
I don't know if clomid is a realistic option but I don't feel like I could sit back anymore and just do nothing. I think I would actually crack up .
OH phoned the fertility clinic yesterday and they said it would be March before we get out appointment. Even then , waiting list for fertility treatments are disgraceful, they say 12-24 months , once your on the list that is. We've enquired at private clinic too and it's even 6 months waiting list privately.
I hate all this waiting around as I know the older I get , statistically the odds get lower.
I'm feeling truly bummed. My anxiety is elevated and I've started waking in the night with crazy chest sensations.
I'm going to see what gynae suggests on Monday weather I should still stick to the 6 month plan or reduce it .
What do you ladies think

Hoping43 · 12/10/2022 07:25

really sorry to hear that @MK85. are you 36/37? Are you sure about the private clinic? I’ve been to two now and waited 2-3 weeks for the investigations both times and I was under the impression I would be able to start IVF more or less straight away. I have investigations next week (we have switched clinics) then hoping to start IVF end Nov. 6 months sounds a long time for private xx

lucymc11 · 12/10/2022 10:12

Sorry to hear you’ve been having a rough time @MK85 😢.

I think I’d do the same as you and keep taking the clomid for 3 cycles and see what happens. Doing nothing would drive me insane.

I agree with @Hoping43 about going private, I’ve never had to wait longer than 2-3 weeks for an appointment. Have you tried somewhere else? Sometimes it’s quicker to find a consultant specialising in fertility and speak to their secretary rather than through a private clinic/hospital. Whereabouts are you based?

TTCX2 · 12/10/2022 10:26

Oh @MK85 what a rough time. The waiting is horrible and I agree with the ladies above, I’d keep taking the clomid so you don’t feel like your missing opportunities to try. If you are able to go private I definitely would and shop around for places in your area. Hopefully you can receive some support soon. Hope your ok!

Jadeybabes86 · 12/10/2022 11:30

@MK85 sorry to hear you’re having it rough, I would say stick with the clomid if you can stand to, and DTD every other day from your fertility time (usually days 5-10 from the last pill) and maybe use the conception lubes etc, lie on you back after just try anything and everything and we will all be crossing our fingers for you xx

Ive just finished my tablets (cycle 2) let’s see where this takes us 🤞🏻

thecarlsons · 12/10/2022 21:25

Hi, everyone!

I'm new to this thread and I really thank @Jadeybabes86 for telling me about it.

A little about me - I am 28 and TTC our first child. I stopped the pill in February and there is no evidence that I began ovulating normally. I have had 1 unsuccessful round of Clomid 50mg.

Doctor put me on Clomid last cycle, and I had some very new/strange (to me) symptoms. Breast tenderness, pelvic pain, and bloating - this kind of got my hopes up, but in all actuality it was just side effects of the medicine.

The day 21 progesterone bloodwork showed a 9.2, and that was too low - so my doctor upped my dosage to 100mg.

AF came today, so I am ready to start Clomid again on day 5! Please send me all the baby dust and good thoughts for this round.

Looking forward to getting to know y'all!

Jadeybabes86 · 13/10/2022 09:50

@thecarlsons Welcome!!! Im on cycle 2, I started on day 3 I was advised to start on day 2 but I was still bleeding really heavy and wanted to let it settle a little more 1st

ive just booked my 21 day bloods so everything crossed I ovulate this time as last time I didn’t

best of luck to you on this crazy journey hope this thread helps, if you’ve read from the 1st post we’ve all had some weird and wonderful experience that you’ll hopefully draw upon xx

lucymc11 · 13/10/2022 10:43

Hi @thecarlsons thanks for joining! Hopefully the 100mg will do the trick for you 🤞.

Hope this is your cycle @Jadeybabes86!

I’m currently 4dpo on my first clomid cycle and driving myself insane symptom spotting even though I know it’s way too early for symptoms. TTC makes me an irrational madwoman! Just trying to keep myself busy and not get my hopes up.

OP posts:
Jadeybabes86 · 13/10/2022 10:56

@lucymc11 I think we’re all guilty of symptom spotting because we want it soooo badly 😩

I’m hoping this cycle goes smoother than the 1st because that just messed my body up so badly 🤞🏻

MK85 · 13/10/2022 17:17

Yeah I'll be 37 in December.
I'm in Northern Ireland. There's not a great deal of options when it comes to private clinics here. There's only two. I've tried to gather up some information regarding the experience with the private clinics and have spoken to a few women online and I haven't found anyone who's had a positive experience . I'm told the waiting times for and between procedures are fustrating and the level of care is really lacking. The vast majority said they travelled to the south of ireland or abroad where the care and expertise are worlds apart.
Yes when he phoned one of the private clinics we were told 6 months waiting for a consultation. ( i know crazy) I don't know how long waiting times are for treatment, if any quicker than nhs , id like to think they would be but one girl online mentioned after her failed ivf attempt she had to wait several months to start the next cycle. I dont know if its normally always been that kinda time frame or if perhaps theres still delays from a covid backlog.🤷‍♀️
We may as well wait for the nhs appointment in that case as they said around march time based on current waiting times, i suppose thats always subject to change tho if there's delays.
( we've been on the list now since the start of September) the nhs clinc did tell him if we paid for a consultation privately with them that would slightly speed up getting on the treatment list. How much quicker I'm not exactly sure
I've heard nhs are very strict with funding and fertility treatment isn't well funded here in n.i. We only get ONE round of nhs funded ivf if eligible 😒 the inequality regarding the number of rounds throughout the uk regions is so unfair.
It's incredibly fustrating. It's already been 3 half years since gp referred me to gynae . So another 6 months for an appointment to go at Fertility clinic..im not sure if theres any further tests ect required before we would be added to the list , And then depending on treatment offered it could be upto a further 24 months according to the nhs clinic website treatment waiting times.
It shouldn't take possibly 6 years to access fertility treatment on nhs. It's an complete shambles .
Strangely tho , his gp is sending us to a different gynae consultant which has only taken a few weeks, so I don't know what the hell took my other referral from my gp 3 years. I just wish I knew the things I know now back then as I would have paid privately for their referral to gynae then had the investigations and treatments on nhs. we'd still have been through this a long time ago. I wasnt aware private and nhs could work in conjunction with each other until recently.
I'm really hoping it won't come to that.
I'd like to have a plan in action just incase but i'm pinning my hopes on clomid because thinking about the alternative, physically and financially needing more advanced treatment will crack me up.

I suppose all I can do now is wait til this appointment on monday and see what they say before deciding on my next move. I'm sure they won't be able to advise me on much anyway. I don't know why they send fertility appointments to gynaecology when they clearly lack the knowledge to be capable of dealing with them. I mean who prescribes clomid alone to a patient who rarely has a period.
It took months to go get the provera sorted then the hassle I had with them losing both prescriptions 😒 If they hadn't of messed me around I could have had several cycles of clomid done already

Since its been several months since they issued those so I need to check with them now anyway that I can still go get my scans ect before I take a clomid dose

really sorry for the long rant girls

MK85 · 13/10/2022 17:20

By the way, are you all having 21 day bloods aswell to see if you've ovulated that month on clomid ? Or is it just you @Jadeybabes86
I'm wondering if I should bring that up to the consultant as it was never mentioned to me. They only told me about the day 10 tracking scan

lucymc11 · 13/10/2022 17:30

I'm private and haven't been offered the day 21 bloods although I wish I'd asked now!

OP posts:
TTCX2 · 13/10/2022 18:32

@MK85 im so sorry there seems to be such a lack of care and options for you where you are. I’m in Scotland and so strange how different it is across the UK. Really hope you get lucky with the clomid and the wait isn’t too long and hopefully they’re just over estimating to manage expectations?

I had day 21 bloods on my 1st dose of clomid which determined I did ovulate on that dose but for whatever reason it’s not been effective this cycle so I’m starting 100mg and will have scans + bloods since the dose is increasing

welcome @thecarlsons ❤️❤️

thecarlsons · 13/10/2022 19:52

I had bloodwork done on day 21, but I am in the US, so I know that there are different protocols. I have not had any ultrasounds or scans though - which kind of concerns me a little.

@TTCX2 it sounds like we are in very similar situations regarding Clomid. Did you have any side effects or symptoms from the medicine?

TTCX2 · 13/10/2022 22:16

It’s hard to tell @thecarlsons, I’m quite hormonal anyway but other than maybe affecting my mood a bit I don’t think so. I’m really surprised it failed 2nd cycle especially as nothing was done differently this time. Hopefully we’ll respond better to the 100mg 🤞

Harper02 · 13/10/2022 23:01

@MK85 hey, I'm in Northern Ireland too👋🏻 currently with a private clinic and more than happy with the care and treatment so far, happy to chat if it helps x

Readaboutyourself · 13/10/2022 23:20

lucymc11 · 13/10/2022 17:30

I'm private and haven't been offered the day 21 bloods although I wish I'd asked now!

Hope you don’t mind me butting in but you can order a test pack from Holland and Barrett

lucymc11 · 14/10/2022 08:36

Sorry @MK85 I missed your earlier post somehow, I can't believe how difficult it's been for
you to access treatment, it's shocking and so unfair. I hope you get somewhere with your appointment on Monday.

@Readaboutyourself oh I had no idea, thanks so much! I'm day 21 today so will try and get to H&B later!

OP posts:
MK85 · 14/10/2022 22:45

I'm honestly glad to hear that @Harper02
I didn't have much confidence after hearing others opinions. I was told there was a general lack of care, errors made and and all around bad atmosphere and attitude from staff .
We'd definitely like to pursue treatment in n.i so we're close to home and not traveling back and forth great distances. We're in west tyrone so even up and down to belfast is a torture but at least its more manageable.

Do you mind me asking what clinic you are with ? Was your wait to get in to see them long ?

Our first consultation at regional is supposedly around march . Dependent on the waiting times , we're inclined to go private for treatment.
I think it was inovo that we enquired about private waiting times

Would definitely like to keep in touch with you

Harper02 · 16/10/2022 00:01

@MK85 I'm currently with Mid Ulster Clinic in Magherafelt. I have yet to hear from the regional clinic since last year! I waited 9 weeks for my initial appt with mid Ulster and that was a year ago. I can send you my number if you want

xFlowerBeanx · 16/10/2022 01:20

👋
I'm really curious, what all tests did everyone have before clomid was prescribed?
I was only asked to do a blood test twice, once on cycle day two and later on in month to confirm if I ovulated or not.
Since the blood test has suggested I'm not ovulating they have sent me away with clomid.
I had a scan of my ovaries only, but that was several years ago when they diagnosed me with pcos. I've had nothing done at my recent appointment.
I read on nhs site and it seems to suggest I would be having a ultrasound scan of ovaries and womb . I haven't had any ultrasound to check my womb and ive been going back and forth for few months and still nothing . You would think a ultrasound would the first thing they would do during investigation before prescribed medication no ? Has anyone else had or not had a scan of their womb
