Here we go! Thread 14 for the nicest bunch of women on Mumsnet

Thread 13 was very joyful and very painful for me, but what it has shown me is that even old warhorses like me can get lucky, so there's no excuse for all you nubile young honies not to deliver the goods! Come on now, Mama Hester expects you to do your duty by your fellow ttc-ers

Get ready now, 1 - 2 - 3, GO!!!

geordie you christmas angel!

Oh, I'm so pleased for you. You've obviously been a really good girl all year to get such a lovely present from Santa. Now, hurl some babydust my way, quick!

morningpaper - if no line in Control window, I thought that meant test hadn't worked??? Can you try a different type of test next time maybe?

morningpaper · 03/12/2004 08:44

Hi Hula I'm here and crazy. How are you? Have you had AF this late before (sorry, can't keep up!). AF hasn't been this late before. I'm so confused. I don't feel remotely PG and really I just want my mind settled before I completely lose the plot and rip all my clothes off and go running through the streets knocking people's hats off.

morningpaper · 03/12/2004 08:46

I don't understand why the test wouldn't WORK? I used clear blue which is the leading brand isn't it? How can it not work? I don't understand it.

Hulababy · 03/12/2004 08:47

HI cockenzie. I'm not from down south - in Yorkshire. Have a look on the TTC meet up thread, as that gives locations of where we all are. And the stats thread has ages too. I'm in early 30s.

cockenzie · 03/12/2004 08:47

Youpee for Geordie...that was the best news for the day..hehe...so pleased for you..and a very very good day...well done lass.

hester · 03/12/2004 08:48

marinda, jedds, I've read that you should ideally BD every other day once your fertile period starts, and then once you get the egg symbol on your Persona you should BD that day and the next day. You shouldn't BD more than once a day as that doesn't give the goolies enough time to produce fresh sperm. Men with lower sperm counts should stick to BDing every other day. Oh, but don't let dp be tempted to abstain from sex/masturbation in the run-up in order to store up sperm - all you'll get is old defective ones; they need a regular clearout!

So Marinda, I shouldn't worry too much about your dh. If you get him to do it two days running at ovulation, great, but it's not worth piling on the pressure and risking putting him off the whole idea.

cockenzie - glad to be of help. I live down south (London) and was in my late 30s until my last birthday!

I think a new thread is a good idea. I've loved having 'my' thread but now that we've got a few success stories (anyone been counting?) I think it's time to hand over to a new mummy . Anyone have a good idea as to who?

Btw, I'm a bit worried that we've not heard from Becki or Shely in a while. Becki in particular seemed rather down; maybe she's needing a break. But if you're lurking, Becki love, have a big hug from me. xxx

OP posts:
hester · 03/12/2004 08:50

Hula, I so feel for you! You must be going crazy with hormones.... big hug from me.

morningpaper - sometimes the tests don't work; that's why they put in the control line, so you know the result is invalid. Very frustrating, I know.

OP posts:
Hulababy · 03/12/2004 08:50

morningpaper - nope. AF has only ever been late twice before like this - both resulted in pg.

No idea why test might not work, but like everything I guess it is possible to have a faulty batch. I'd try a different brand I think, in case.

Like you, I am driving mayself nuts here. DH is, very sensible, keeping out of it as much as he can. He looks as if to ask if AF has arrived and before he has chance to ask I just reply No. He's decided not to venture further - sensible man

I seem to spend the whole time obsessing over any vague symptom, real or otherwise in mnaay cases. And I have looked at so many charts on the FF gallery to look for patterns!

I am going mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hulababy · 03/12/2004 08:52

TW, I am happy to for us to start a new thread as even on broadband this is taking a while to download. How about Geordie starting it, with her very recent good news?

hester · 03/12/2004 08:54

Great idea Hula; she can anoint it with babydust and it will be the luckiest thread ever.

I've got ants in my pants empathising with the state you're in, Hula. Eeeeeeeeekkkk....

OP posts:
morningpaper · 03/12/2004 08:54

Last night when I went to bed, DH had put a bar of Dairy Milk under my pillow! He is the best.

Now I'm freaking out about the control line. There was none this morning and only a really faint/possibly imagined one on yesterday's. How can I have paid 12 quid for dodgy tests? How can they not be valid? Surely all they have to do is put some chemicals on a strip of paper... I thought the control line was just to make sure you wee'd sufficiently and I saw the wee soak down the length of the test.
bangs head on desk
Will buy another one for tomorrow morning.

Hulababy · 03/12/2004 08:56

LOL hster - at least I have the MN meet tonight to distract myself if AF still hasn't arrived.

hester · 03/12/2004 08:56

Oh mp, it's infuriating, isn't it? Poor you (she said semi-smugly, still only c. 2 days dpo and relatively sane).

jingleballs · 03/12/2004 08:58

morningpaper · 03/12/2004 08:59

Don't worry Hester, you'll be crazy in a week too.

When are you testing again Hula?

p.s. I also vote for Lucky Geordie to start the new thread on Monday!

Hulababy · 03/12/2004 09:03

Don't know. I am going to try and hold out but not sure until when. I think I am 15DPO, so maybe I will wait until Monday - when I am a full week late. If I can wait that long and haven't gone mad. But ion Saturday BIL is ocming to stay, and on Sunday we are out at family lunch, so I do have distractions.

What about you?

morningpaper · 03/12/2004 09:10

Hula you have too much self-control!

I don't know, maybe tomorrow morning? Now this control line thing is getting my hopes up again... Maybe I'll go and do another test later today. But it's bloody COLD outside so probably not.

sigh Better go and do some work. Good luck Hula! Good luck everyone! I know that lots of you are suffering far more than me and I'm just whittering on and on! Sorry! XXX

hester · 03/12/2004 09:25

Hula, if I were you I'd be testing every single day... I'm awed at your steely self-control.

morningpaper - I expect you back here in a week, talking to me in a low calm voice as you peel me off the ceiling...

jingleballs, Portsmouth isn't south, it's tropical!
Yes, the start of your fertile period is when you start getting fertile cm.

Geordie, are you there? Do you accept the verdict of the popular vote?

OP posts:
Hulababy · 03/12/2004 09:27

But don't forget I did give in yesterday, and look where that got me. At what works out at £5 a test, I'm not sure I can afford to test every day!!!

hester · 03/12/2004 09:38

SO hoping you sneak in a BFP before we finish this thread .

Anyone know how many graduates we have? I know I could count, but I've not had nearly enough chocolate yet for that kind of brainwork.

OP posts:
morningpaper · 03/12/2004 10:07

Oh well, I just rushed up to Sainsbury's despite it being -5 degrees outside. Bought ClearBlue and Sainsbury's own and both say BFN.

Had an awful time at the checkout because the woman in front of me didn't have enough money and was there for about 10 minutes while I was standing there VERY RED with two big obvious SLAPPER TESTS on the conveyor belt. There was a schoolboy right behind me and another five people behind him. It was VERY EMBARASSING.

Am REALLY going to do some work now.

Cosybear · 03/12/2004 10:08

Hello all ,

Well looks like i'll be joining you all again soon - am starting to miscarry - i would have been 8 weeks tomorrow - have had a brown discharge for 2 weeks and now blood - had a scan yeaterday they found 2 sacs and only once developed - it had a heartbeat at a scan last week but now no heartbeat - and it hasn't grown .
I've to have a scan next Thurs to confirm it but have started bleeding this morning . So suppose at least i won't have to make the horrible choice how to go thorugh with it - i wanted it to happen naturally anyway.
I will be back on here soon - nice to see familiar names - but sorry you are still here!
take care
xxx
