cockenzie · 02/12/2004 08:14

cheers jingleballs

well appreciated.
i did few months ago ov kit 'predictor' i bought in boots and it detected my hormon level and did the business then, but nothing happened.Thats what made me think that b/feeding at night may suppress ovulation and did some research on internet and filled my brain with lots of stuff re: prolactin.I am just going mad

cockenzie · 02/12/2004 08:18

If you have any ideas/advice...pls!!! i will do anything...i know it sounds desperate.. but brooding badly

jingleballs · 02/12/2004 08:41

I've read somewhere i'm sure, (might have been from the dr thou) that even thou we're OV, and DH's sperms are OK, all is in the right time at the right place etc... you still might not 'catch' as it were.

Who eva thought concievein would be this hard! WIll keep u posted on the friend thing, (in the nicest way I do hope she's not PG as i'll be dead peeved)

cockenzie · 02/12/2004 08:47

When u think some women conceive just at the click of finger...why not us?

jingleballs · 02/12/2004 09:00

Hi ya I know what u mean it's just not fair is it? and whats more annoying is at 16 I had a m/c but (and heres the ironic part) we used a condom..... which split.... (I knew that night would be PG) the following day I took the morning after pill exactly as told by the nurse..... then the day AF was due got upto the clinic and the nurse confirmed i was PG, said sh'e not seen a test so clearly positive after 2 weeks! then 4 weeks after that I m/c, but the thing is thou, we weren't even trying, if anything the exact opposite. It's just not fair!, and now I think well, what if that was my only chance and now it's gone? still ho hum..... another day and we have to carry on, I think next time will try again straight after the birth of my eventual child (am trying to think this time next year I will be expecting!) - not helping the issue is the fact i'm no good at playing the waiting game!

morningpaper · 02/12/2004 09:00

What's happening? AF is one day late - this has never happened before. But I did a HPT this morning and it was a very BFN. When I got pg before I got a BFP on CD20, so I assume that if I was pg I would have a BFP by NOW wouldn't I? It is CD29. My head is all f**d. I got so excited this morning when there was no AF and now I'm all down again. Is it just the STRESS or what?

geordie · 02/12/2004 09:04

((((((Hula)))))))

sorry about the bfn.

geordie · 02/12/2004 09:05

((mornongpaper)) sorry too!! ttc really messes with our heads doesn't it!

yingers74 · 02/12/2004 09:08

morningpaper, sorry too, this happened to me last month, sometimes it is very much mind over matter.

morningpaper · 02/12/2004 09:09

to Hula who is also in limbo.

morningpaper · 02/12/2004 09:10

Yingers: It is the WORST thing! I woke up at 5.30 and was so excited that no AF. Couldn't sleep so got into work early and bought a hpt on the way in. Still at least I'm the only one here so can console myself on MN.

cockenzie · 02/12/2004 09:56

sorry morning paper.a stupid question but why dont we stop thinking about it? and ttc relaxed? easy to say even i cant stop thinking about it which may be the best contraception. looks like it.you just wouldnt stop pulling hair out..

cockenzie · 02/12/2004 10:08

say you are pg and do an ovulation test. would it come neg or pos?

Tania2 · 02/12/2004 10:38

((((HUGS))))) hula and morningpaper

runtus · 02/12/2004 11:18

Morning all, sorry about the BFN's since I was here yesterday - I know the boat you are in only too well..........still waiting for the DR to get back to me.

Can't remem, ber who asked about being referred to a specialist, but think I will bear with them for a while. They referrred me for blood tests and took me really seriously at only 4 months ttc, so I don;t want to rock the boat now. He is going to call me back out of surgery hours so I guess he is doing all he can right now. Hopefully the specialist will have good advice (not just keep waiting!)

marinda · 02/12/2004 12:51

AF

Chuffingoodtime · 02/12/2004 13:00

still no af, no ewm, lots of bding and no signs or symptoms of bfp. May take a test this weekend to confirm.
cockenzie I'm bf too only 2x per day and no period yet, dd is 8mths. Have been trying since Sep as much as you can without having any idea of your cycle. If I don't have it by time dd is 1 year old I'll go to dr for more tests.
Good luck for the waiting everyone, it is so frustrating you spend your whole life avoiding and then it doesn't happen when you want it.

morningpaper · 02/12/2004 13:08

AF here now too.

Oh well, another 2 or 3 weeks until the craziness starts again.

hester · 02/12/2004 13:57

morningpaper and marinda - so sorry that your af arrived

cockenzie - thanks so much for your message; it was very kind and really appreciated. put fairly succinctly, I think the chapter and verse on detecting ovulation is:

  1. Keep a monthly record of your cycle (you can do this on paper, using special charts, or using the Fertility Friend website). You will have to do this for at least three months before you get reliable information, and it will only work if you are reasonably regular.

  2. Record the length of your cycle on this, plus all the symptoms of ovulation you are going to record (see below).

  3. The easiest method of detecting when you are ovulating is to use ovulation predictor sticks - like Persona (which you are already using) or other brands. BUT it is usually best to supplement this with other methods, because you should start BDing at the start of your fertile period which is usually earlier than when you get the egg symbol on your Persona.

  4. The next sign to look out for is changes in your cervical mucus. You should check it every day, rub it between your fingers (essential!) and note the changes. Most women finds it is pretty dry and crumbly straight after your period, then gets creamier, then - when you get to your fertile period - it goes clear and stretchy (like egg white) or watery - then after you ovulate it goes creamy again. The important thing to know is that you should start BDing as soon as you get this fertile mucus; this will usually be 2-4 days before you ovulate.

  5. Some women do temping i.e. take their temperature every morning before getting up, and recording the results on a chart. Your temperature should rise immediately after ovulation, and stay high through the rest of your cycle. This method will not show you that you are about to ovulate, so isn't much use in itself, but it is useful in conjunction with other methods to understand your cycle, and it can reveal potential problems e.g. shortened luteal phase.

  6. Some women check their cervix because this too changes around ovulation - goes softer, higher, more open (is that right, ladies?).

  7. Other signs to watch out for include abdominal pain, increased interest in sex, um can't think of anymore but they'll come back to me.

  8. The point of all this is to decide which signs you will monitor, and then do so religiously every month. That way you develop an understanding of what happens with your individual cycle, and the best times to try to make a baby. Different women choose different combinations of signs, but I think the minimum is to record your dates and either your cervical mucus or your OPK results. The more things you monitor the quicker you get a clear picture of what is going on, but you have to balance that with not getting too obsessive and having no time left for life...

Does that help? Fellow threaders, have I got this right? Any amendments or additions?

Sallie · 02/12/2004 14:01

Hi everyone. Sorry about those who have been paid a visit by af. I am on cd20 and got a green light from persona this morning which probably means that we have now done our bit so to speak for this month and now have that awful waiting to get through. Last month af arrived on cd 30, the previous month it was cd29 and the month before that, had a m/c so who knows....itching to test already which is silly. Anyway, am on leave from tomorrow till a week on Monday so hopefully will be able to hold out until then.
Best of luck to all those testing imminently. I hate the waiting!!! Had my double fix of Bodies last night (we have digital so was able to watch next week's episode too ) so have to wait for another week for the next instalment of that too.....hmmmmm!

MrsFogi · 02/12/2004 14:45

I apologise I haven't had much time to post recently, all bding and work (but I have been lurking). I'm on CD27 at the moment - weird month though as ff hasn't told me I've ovultated yet although I think I ovulated a day or two ago so no idea how things will work out this month in relation to dpo etc.
On another note a while ago there was a discussion about lubricant that doesn't harm those precious sperm - last night I tried out the one from blushingbuyer that is friendly to sperm and it was fabulous (and if they can't swim in that slippery stuff they can't swim in anything!)

hester · 02/12/2004 14:49

MrsFogi, do you think that lubricant is positively helpful to sperm, or just less damaging than others? In other words, would those of us with little ewcm benefit from using it?
