TTC #2

Hello,
I couldn't see a thread for ladies trying for baby no 2, so I thought I'd start one.
I'm nearing the end of cycle 3, 12DPO today, AF due on Wednesday. Having all sorts of symptoms that I don't usually get.
My first LO turned 2 a couple of months ago.
Look forward to hearing others' stories 😊

@darcey87 tbh I have no idea. I've been on the pill since my late teens - came off to TTC #1 in my 30s and conceived before I had my first period, then went right back on the pill after giving birth. So I have no clue what a "normal" cycle is for me, which is annoying.

I decided this time round to come off the pill a couple of months before trying - more so out of laziness because I ran out and knew we wanted to try soon anyway. Those two cycles have been on the long side, but I hear that can be normal after coming off the pill?

Adds an extra layer of mystery and excitement (Hmm) to the process haha!

MamaSJ15 · 19/07/2021 17:58

@coles85 thanks for the advice 😂 I picked her up from nursery and they said her eyes been okay all day haha. It's a bit watery but not as bad as it was.

Thanks @darcey87.
Yeah it's hard isn't it when it's the only major thing going on in life 😂 I do work full time but I still got obsessive about it!

So it turns out I had my second jab today instead of August! They had a pop up centre in the building next to where I work so it was so handy to just get it over with!

Oh that's good @MamaSJ15 nice to get it sooner and when it's convenient.

I am CV so had mine in the spring and the clinics weren't very convenient so it's great they are doing more in the community now, so much easier when you can just pop in.

So TTC-wise I'm confused! I'm still getting EWCM even though I got my first positive ov test on Saturday evening so would have expected to ov before now. I DTD Friday, Sunday, yesterday and was planning to go again tomorrow but should I go today/tonight as well? Most copious CM was Friday but it's still definitely there. I originally expected to ov today as it's CD14 and my last two cycles have been 28 days.

I don't want to miss an opportunity. I am also tired and it is hot.

MamaSJ15 · 20/07/2021 11:36

@darcey87 I have no idea, that sounds really confusing. Maybe today if you feel up to it, but if its forced then maybe not a good idea? It really is hot!! I feel like I'm melting!

OP posts:
coles85 · 20/07/2021 13:08

@darcey87 it's so hard to know whether to just do it again or not. If it were me I'd probably try and go again today if possible. But it's exhausting (especially in this heat).

However it also sounds like you should already have a few swimmers ready and waiting so...if you cba today then I'm guessing it might not make too much difference?

darcey87 · 20/07/2021 17:12

I'm inclined to try again but we'll see if DH is up for it. I mentioned I would like to DTD again tonight, but left it up to him. Sperm does live for a little while and although I'm still getting the fertile CM I believe I felt ovulation on Sunday evening and had the most fertile CM on Friday. Maybe it's a pregnancy symptom rather than 'still fertile' symptom 🙈😂

My friend and her DP have sex every night for a week over her fertile window. I think I might just do that from CD8 to CD16 next month if I don't get lucky this month. All this testing and calculating is a bit of a headf*.

How is everyone today? What are our CDs/DPOs? Anyone due to test this week?

MamaSJ15 · 20/07/2021 19:32

It's so confusing isn't it @darcey87
Im not sure I could do it every day, even for a week. Think I'd feel too much pressure, and DH probably would too!
I think I'm currently CD 6, so about to head into the fertile period. Hope this weather cools off otherwise we're not gonna get anywhere this cycle 😂

OP posts:
coles85 · 20/07/2021 20:28

I'm currently CD 33 Hmm and I think 6 or 7 DPO.

Yeah every day would be so exhausting!! But good on you if you can manage it! We aimed for every other day but managed a couple in a row. But that was also because I had no idea when I was ovulating so for good measure I tracked a 28 day cycle and a 40 day cycle and everything in between Grin and assumed that whole period was a potential window...it was a tough couple of weeks haha!

darcey87 · 20/07/2021 20:33

It's SO confusing! I just did a cheapie ov test and it was negative but fairly dark. However DH wasn't up for it so I think we've given it our best shot this month. When would you test if you're not sure when you ovulated? Maybe I'll have to wait until AF is late, if it is 😭

Good luck@MamaSJ15! It is very sticky ttc in this heat! It's meant to cool down at the weekend.

darcey87 · 20/07/2021 20:39

So do you think you could be more that 6/7DPO @coles85 or fairly sure? Good tactics to try and catch your fertile window! Two weeks does sound tiring though Shock

MamaSJ15 · 20/07/2021 22:05

It must be very frustrating having a longer cycle @coles85. And good on you for treating the two weeks as your fertile period, that must have been exhausting!

@darcey87 yeah I guess it would be best to wait till late AF if you're not sure on ovulation.
Thank you! I hope so, I just can't cope with this heat, never mind with TTC! Been trying to cool down my little girls room cause she's very unsettled in the heat, but it's proving to be impossible!

Sitting here dying to do a test but know there is zero point Grin I am SO impatient!!!

Quick Q for anyone who has been trying more than 1 month - do you still drink alcohol during your TWW?

We are entertaining this weekend and as I probably won't have an accuracy result by then, I'm wondering if I should just drink moderately so as not to rouse suspicion, or do I come up with an excuse to avoid it?

darcey87 · 21/07/2021 19:55

This is my first month of trying but I think I asked this further up thread and the consensus was that most would have a few small drinks but not go wild.
According to DH I also drank lightly before my last BFP and I have been doing the same this time, although obviously I'm only 2-3DPO.

I've also searched loads of Mumsnet threads on this because im neurotic and people seem to say it's a long slog if it takes you a few months and you don't drink, plus something about not sharing anything with the embryo until about 6 weeks.

But obviously totally individual. I'm going to have a wine with my nice birthday dinner on the weekend, but if I had people round and wanted to give it a miss I might have just tonic with ice and lemon. Also everyone assumes we're trying (because we had to wait until I was eligible for enhanced mat pay) so I don't think anyone would be surprised if I didn't have a drink.

MamaSJ15 · 21/07/2021 20:05

@coles85 I personally don't drink anyway (just generally, not just TTC), so I don't really have a very good opinion but I would say a moderate amount would be okay.

When are you planning on testing?

OP posts:
coles85 · 21/07/2021 20:17

Thanks all! I'm pretty sure I drank during my TWW last time because I was pretty convinced it wouldn't happen right away. It just feels a bit like tempting fate though doesn't it?

I'm sure one or two glasses of fizz won't hurt too much!

Going to try to hold off testing until Wednesday next week because I think that's when AF is due, but chances are I'll cave and test on Monday.

MamaSJ15 · 22/07/2021 10:26

Yeah I'm sure that'll be fine @coles85

That's a good idea, at least if you are pregnant you'd get a better result by then!

How's everyone doing with this heat? I can't cope! I believe it's supposed to be cooling down over the weekend so fingers crossed we may even get some DTD time in! It's far too hot for us at the moment!

OP posts:
coles85 · 22/07/2021 12:50

Well...

Turns out I'm more impatient than I thought.

Did a test at lunchtime and...got a BFP!

Heaven knows when I ovulated but it's fairly solid, not a squinter.

Can't believe it! Just hope it sticks!

ItsSunnyOutside · 22/07/2021 13:43

Hi @MamaSJ15, I'm joining your thread!

Our DD is nearly 2 and we feel it's a good time to ttc #2.

We conceived quickly with DD, but I think it will take alot longer for us this time around. My periods only came back 6 months ago ( due to bf) and they are still abit strange. Long cycles of 38 days (used to be 28 days on the dot) and late ovulation ( according to opk last month)

Congratulations! @coles85 Grin

MamaSJ15 · 22/07/2021 14:04

Ahhhh!! Congratulations @coles85!! That's amazing! :D

Hi @ItsSunnyOutside :) Welcome!
How are you doing? where in your cycle are you at the moment?
I'm on CD 8 I think, and trying a fairly casual cycle (hence the 'think' on CD! haha), cycle #4. We conceived on cycle #3 for our DD so hoping it won't be too much longer :)

OP posts:
darcey87 · 22/07/2021 14:19

Hooray! Congratulations @coles85! Great news - no fizz then.

Welcome @ItsSunnyOutside, the longer cycles might not mean anything in terms of TTC, fingers crossed for you! It was also quick for me with my first pregnancy and I'm sure it won't be again this time - that's just too lucky, right?

I think I'm 4DPO and am obviously losing my mind as I just feel really twingey in my womb/ovary area. I keep googling 'when does implantation happen' (answer: not this early) and 'symptoms of ectopic pregnancy' (answer: there aren't any this early). Not enjoying the TWW.

coles85 · 22/07/2021 14:32

Thanks everyone, and welcome @ItsSunnyOutside! My cycles have been all over the place too and really long, don't let it dishearten you too much. It's just a pain when they're so long, feels like you get fewer chances than everyone else Sad

Yup no fizz for me this weekend! Will need to decant some noseco into a champers bottle so no one notices!

Feels a bit surreal, I'm now worrying it's a dodgy test Confused so going to buy a more expensive one just to be on the safe side lol

MamaSJ15 · 22/07/2021 15:04

@darcey87 I was like that last cycle, but only from 7dpo, that second week was the longest week ever! Try keep busy to keep your mind off it (I know easier said than done...)

@coles85 I know what you mean, let us know the result of the more expensive test :)

OP posts:
ItsSunnyOutside · 22/07/2021 20:42

Hi @MamaSJ15
I'm good thank you, I hope you are tooSmile
I'm CD13 (I'm getting used to the ttc lingo!) My fertile week isn't for another 9 days according to my app! I'm trying not get too technical at this stage and just try the casual approach too!

Hi @darcey87
Thank you, I hope so too. It's strange going from a very regular typical cycle to a much longer one. I started tracking 2 months ago just to get a better idea of when I actually ovulate!

Oh I know! I think most woman who are ttc do the symptom spotting! You can't help it! Fingers crossed for you too.

@coles85 hi! Thank you, I'll try not to worry too much about it, I know I'm ovulating which is good, so we'll just have to see what happens over these next months.

You must be so excited!
Ha! I remember those days of pretending to drink! I found out a couple of days before Christmas so had to pretend I was drinking, I wasn't sure big drinker anyway , so no-one noticed!

MamaSJ15 · 22/07/2021 23:13

@itssunnyoutside I am well thank you, just ready for a break from this heat! I would probably find it quite frustrating to have a longer cycle. Mine is generally 28 days but period arrived 4 days early a couple of cycles ago which threw me! I had convinced myself it was implantation, then it arrived in full force!

I don't want to cause any arguments here... But how's everyone with the vaccines? Have you had the vaccine? How did you feel after?

OP posts:
coles85 · 23/07/2021 06:49

@ItsSunnyOutside I've had my first one. I got Pfizer about 6 weeks ago and thankfully had no side effects other than a slightly stiff arm.

I think I'll likely get my second dose even though now I'm pregnant (so far! Did a clear blue last night and got a very strong pregnant line). I've got a few friends who are also pregnant and it's about 50/50 for who has and hasn't gotten the vaccine.

So hard to know what to do for the best Confused
