TTC after miscarriage

lamby12 · 05/01/2021 13:39

Hi just wondered if anyone had any experience of continuing TTC after miscarriage. I had a loss at 5/6 weeks recently. The bleeding has now stopped (about 3 days clear) and I'm starting to feel back to normal physically. Emotionally I'm gutted as we have been trying for so long and a few close relatives who know have said we should wait a while to recover emotionally/physically.
Whilst I agree, I've also read that you're most fertile after a miscarriage and it's taken 18months of inconsistent ovulation/low hormones for me to get pregnant. I don't want to miss what could be an increased chance when my odds are low ordinarily.
The hospital said I should wait until a normal period for dating reasons only, they said nothing about risk of infection or complications getting pregnant straight away. I have no idea when I would ovulate (if) now.
Any experience out there?

Thanks for your sympathy! Today has just felt a bit rough.

If you can wait, try and see the consultant. It hve you called to see if they could see you sooner? I don’t think GPs would have the right level of knowledge about what to prescribe and how much. For the pregnancy that didn’t work out, I was given a prescription for Lubion which is a progesterone injection, and I was due to take it until week 12. Hopefully the consultant could advise something like that

lamby12 · 10/03/2021 17:35

Thanks @Absy no there's no sooner appointment with the consultant, she's really busy. That's interesting, I thought the progesterone was only an issue for the first trimester? I don't know though, I just thought that after week 12ish the placenta takes over rather than hormones and that's why things become a bit safer. X

@Absy sending you hugs, and thinking of you. It is so hard when other people announce. Be kind to yourself. I have found this month strange as lots of people have announced for September.

Fingers crossed for you too in the TWW. I hope it passes quickly!

@lamby12 Thinking of you too. Those lines look really good! Hopefully the consultant is helpful when you see them, and gives you some good advice. I have fingers crossed. It is so hard trying to protect yourself and prepare yourself for the worst, while hoping for the best.

@Icklemissgem ooh good luck. Fingers crossed for you!

@SG121 how was your private scan? Hope all is ok. I am tempted but will wait to see midwife (hopefully).

I felt a bit sick this morning, which hopefully is a good sign. Although it could just be tiredness... My daughter had me up since before 4am... typical as it was my first day back at in person teaching. So tired. I keep trying to remember what I felt with her. I think next week (6 weeks) I started throwing up 😆 but I am looking forward to it for some reassurance... I did do the other digital in my box on Saturday or Sunday and it said 2-3 without first morning wee, so all seems well.

Sending hugs to you all!

SG121 · 10/03/2021 18:50

@lamby12 congratulations! Sending lots of positivity to you... It’s totally normal to be wary after what we’ve gone through. Got my fingers crossed for you!
@AmyFr the scan went great thank you! I was 3 days behind what I thought I was but she said that’s normal so I was 7w5d when I had the scan and I saw the heartbeat. It was amazing but I’m still nervous so not going online as much. ( haven’t caught up on this post at all and trying to stay off certain stuff as it makes my nerves worse ) but trying to stay positive. I’ve started feeling very nauseous too. Not all day thank god- I’m glad that I feel it as, like you said, it’s reassuring but when I feel it I hate it 😂 how are you doing? How was it being back in school? I go back full time Monday with all the kids in x

lamby12 · 13/03/2021 19:31

Thanks @SG121 and @AmyFr

Tonight I'm feeling really worried as I have EXTREME cramps just like period pains. Up to now it's been lots of twinges but it's suddenly like what I get at the height of my period and when I was miscarrying. No blood right now though.

You ladies that have also had a recent positive, have you had anything like this? I'm really worried it's coming to an end because of these pains. I'm 4 weeks and 1 day so not even got very far yet.

X

AmyFr · 13/03/2021 19:51

Oh @lamby12 I’m so sorry you are going through this.

I have had pains but I wouldn’t call them extreme. They have been milder than my period pains. I had bad PGP in my last pregnancy later on and I have had some pain and aches a bit like this which is apparently ‘round ligament pain.’ I’m not sure that is what you are describing though, as you mention cramping and this is more of an ache (for me anyway). From my pregnancy with my daughter, I remember constantly feeling that my period was coming and crampy though.

What I would say is that it is so easy to jump to the worst assumption and everyone experiences pain differently. If you are experiencing extreme pain though I would ask to be checked out just to be safe because of things like ectopic... I think I read that pain can also be in your shoulder though so might not be relevant. Can you phone 111 for advice? Has the pain subsided at all? Implantation causes cramps and must still be ongoing at this stage too.

Sending you the biggest hugs.

AmyFr · 13/03/2021 19:54

Tommy’s also says this: “ You may also have some period-like cramping in these early weeks”

lamby12 · 13/03/2021 20:05

Thanks @AmyFr yes everything online says period pains are to be expected. I don't remember if I had them with DD who is now 2.5. I don't think I did with my miscarriage /l- the bleeding came out of nowhere so I'm hoping that means this isn't the same.

It keeps coming and going, like me period pains do. It's basically like mild contractions at the front, no back pain, which is what's worrying me because this is what I have when bleeding usually, because it's the uterus contracting.

Thanks for your reply. I've taken some paracetamol, preparing myself for the worst just in case. All I can do is wait.

@lamby12 sending you 🤗 pregnancy is so nerve wracking after a loss.

I think if it is different to your miscarriage, then that is good.

I definitely had period pains with my daughter because I remember feeling them and thinking “oh well that doesn’t mean that anymore; I can just forget about them.” I was very chilled and oblivious. Your uterus will be expanding and stretching though so period pains are definitely normal too.

I will be thinking of you. It’s so crap when all you can do is wait. 🤗

lamby12 · 14/03/2021 20:29

Thanks @AmyFr so I am still ok, the pain got really bad last night but nothing has happened yet and it seems to have eased off. Keeps coming back like little stitches and cramps but nothing as full blown as last night. It literally felt like my uterus was contracting, but no blood, so let's hope it was stretching and just feels the same.

I deffo didn't have this last time so I hope that's a good thing and this is a sign of things getting bedded in. I'm not as panicked as I was but still haven't full abandoned panic stations yet....!

If I can get through another full week I'll have made it past the last miscarriage which feels like a milestone.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

AmyFr · 15/03/2021 06:58

@lamby12 oh bless you. Fingers crossed for you. I’m glad they have subsided. Fingers crossed this is the last of them. Do you have your appointment this week too? You can ask there too and hopefully get some reassurance.

@SG121 sorry, I realised I didn’t reply. I’m glad your scan went well - I bet that was amazing! 🥰 hope you are still doing well.

School was crazy and chaotic as usual. Teaching with a mask on is ok too. I am going to struggle this week as tiredness has set in and nausea has started rearing its head. The midwife phoned my yesterday to book me in for booking appointment in two weeks. It was the same midwife I had when I had my daughter, which is nice!

Icklemissgem · 15/03/2021 13:06

Can anyone help me 😞😞

I have been taking the cyclogest pessaries since I got my BFP 6 days ago, have done another test this morning and the line is so faint and definitely no darker than before so think that means this is now my 4th chemical in a row 💔
I’ve had no bleeding but presume that’s because the pessaries will delay the bleeding until I stop taking them? Anyone experienced this is the lack of bleeding because of the pessaries? X

lamby12 · 15/03/2021 14:26

Hi @Icklemissgem just seen your post so sorry to hear this, was it the same sort of test? I don't know anything about the pessaries I'm afraid, but f you haven't had any bleeding maybe take another test tomorrow AM? It could have been dilute urine or something.

Saying that, I'm stressing massively today because I've had bad cramps for a couple of days and now the previous symptoms I was feeling have gone. I'm worried I'm about to have my 3rd early miscarriage. I was thinking about calling the doctor to see if they do blood tests to check if hcg is rising but I don't know if they even do that or would at the moment.

Could you try asking that of your doctor?

@AmyFr thanks for your reassurance. I have my private appointment about starting IVF on Thursday and I'm keeping it in. Wednesday this week will be the day my last miscarriage started in terms of how far along so I'm feeling twitchy. Glad that your return to the classroom has gone ok. X

Icklemissgem · 15/03/2021 14:36

Hi @lamby12

Yes it was the same sort of test it was a FRER, it wasn’t FMU but that shouldn’t matter at this stage with a FRER as I think I should be 14dpo 😔😔 just feel gutted and only explanation I can think of for the no bleeding yet is the cyclogest.
I will take another one in the morning but I fear I already know it’ll either be negative or still faint.

Sorry to hear about your cramps, have you taken another test?
I was thinking about asking the Dr for a blood test also as feel I just want to know for sure now as this will be my 4th loss 💔

I am literally crossing everything for you xxx

lamby12 · 15/03/2021 14:48

Oh I'm so sorry @Icklemissgem that you are going through this, I don't think you can assume another miscarriage yet but so sorry you are going through the uncertainty and worry. It's awful and must be worrying that you've got a faint test now. I would maybe try calling the doctor, see what they say? I suppose they will know about more about the pessaries and what effect they could be having. Given they prescribed the pessaries they might also do bloods for you?

I'm going to get a test this afternoon, I was trying to be relaxed but now I have the urge and I'm panicking. Last time my symptoms went a couple of days before and it was around this time. I only mean weak symptoms like a headache a bit of nausea - I know they don't kick off until a bit later. But still the disappearance is making me worry. X

OP posts:
Icklemissgem · 15/03/2021 15:27

@lamby12 I have bloods booked in with the Dr in the morning but guess I won't get the results for a few days so will do a FRER in the morning also.

Let me know how you get on with your test 🤞🏻
I have read symptoms come and go so try not to read too much into that xx

lamby12 · 15/03/2021 16:30

@Icklemissgem that's good, will they do your hcg and then repeat to see if it's going up?

I got my test and due to being all over the place in boots I got a CBD 2 pack without the weeks indicator; I meant to get with weeks so I could see if it's the same/going up.... so the result was pregnant which is good but I don't feel totally reassured. I will probably get weeks indicator and maybe FRER tomorrow to reassure myself... like £25 quid on tests in 2 days?! Am I crazy?!

I hope you're bloods go ok, I've got fingers and toes crossed for you. Did the doctor say that the pessaries can mask any bleeding or were they quite reassuring?
X

OP posts:
Icklemissgem · 15/03/2021 16:35

@lamby12

I am hoping so but she didn’t really say.

That is definitely good news. You’re not mad I would be doing exactly the same 😊 good luck!!! Keep me posted.

The GP just said the pessaries can delay the bleeding for some people but for some they would bleed straight away as normal. Not very reassuring so all I can do is wait and see what tomorrow brings.

lamby12 · 16/03/2021 09:25

Hi hope everyone is doing ok, @Icklemissgem good luck with your blood test this morning, do you know when you'll get results?

I started a thread about my pain last night it got so bad, just kept coming in waves like contractions, a few others replied and said they had this and it was stretching/wind/constipation so maybe that. But seriously almost as bad as childbirth contractions I'm not even joking! I'm going to call the doctor today, maybe rule out a UTI and see if they'll do blood tests. I know they won't scan til 6 weeks and I have the private scan booked then anyway.

In the meantime I did a FRER this morning and I'm a bit worried as I've never seen this before... the 'pregnancy' line is really dark and the control line is barely there, is this bad like a faint positive? Or is it a dud test? Has anyone seen this before?

@lamby12 I think people call it a “dye stealer” which is where your hormones are very high, so it’s a good sign.

Oh bless you. I have had painful wind this time. Not fun! Do antacids help? That might help you identify the cause.

I had a tiny bit of spotting when I wiped this morning so I am seeing the GP this afternoon, and really nervous. I swear this part of pregnancy is the worst. I am just over six weeks so I think they might refer me if I need to be... she said it could be due to a urine infection and wants to do my blood pressure.

Sending hugs. Hope you girls are doing ok. I’m so sorry this is going on for you both. 🤗

lamby12 · 16/03/2021 10:37

Thank @AmyFr I have spoke to the doctor this morning they weren't too worried if it is not one sided pain and as I expected no suggestion of a scan or bloods until later. They will check for a urine infection just in case.

He said it's not uncommon to get this especially with endometriosis as things shift around, as long as the pain does subside and there is no bleeding, then they wouldn't be too concerned.

So that's a bit reassuring.

Sorry you have had some spotting this morning, good news that you can get straight in at the doctors. Have you had a scan yet? They will probably send you to EPU for one which is good. X

AmyFr · 16/03/2021 16:12

Thanks @lamby12 hope you’re ok. I have a scan on Thursday. I have light cramps too and just so anxious now. The GP told me to rest until my scan on Thursday. It feels an eternity away.

How was your urine test? I don’t have an infection but she said there was some blood (although none visible to the naked eye). Pregnancy test blazing positive. I really hope this isn’t going to be another loss.

lamby12 · 16/03/2021 16:18

Thanks @AmyFr good news that you have a scan though yes Thursday feels an eternity! Every day does right now! Can you plan things to keep your mind off it?

I keep thinking if I get to 6 weeks and have my scan I will relax but no, 6-12 weeks is just as difficult but it's still before that 12 week point. So I can see how it's a really anxious time for you.

I haven't done the urine yet as I need to go to the docs and pic up a pot, then do it at home, then take it back... I will probably not have time to do this until Thursday but I don't have any other UTI symptoms so I'm not too worried.

Hope everything settles down for you with the cramps and fingers crossed for no more blood. X

AmyFr · 16/03/2021 16:32

@lamby12 I was pleased to get to six weeks, foolishly thinking less stress. We will see what happens, I guess.

The GP told me not to go to work tomorrow, so I don’t have much to distract me 😂 I’ll have to find some rubbish TV while my daughter is at nursery in the morning...

Hopefully, come Thursday, it will be good news and I can relax maybe...

lamby12 · 16/03/2021 16:48

Yes I'll be the same if I get that far, I am wanting to get to Thursday at the moment as then I'm past the last miscarriage milestone (..tomorrow) and we have the consultant appointment on Thursday.

The consultant has offered to prescribe me progesterone - I think these are the pessaries that @Icklemissgem is taking? She said there is no evidence they work but they definitely do no harm so she is happy to prescribe them but we can discuss it more on Thursday. I'm not sure what to do on that - I know if it ends I'll kick myself if I didn't use them in case it could have made a difference.

I'm with DD2.5 tomorrow and planned a busy day (by busy I mean walk, baking, picking up a click and collect... a car ride... that sort of thing!) so hoping it will fly.

Hope you get chance to put your feet up @AmyFr
