TTC after miscarriage

lamby12 · 05/01/2021 13:39

Hi just wondered if anyone had any experience of continuing TTC after miscarriage. I had a loss at 5/6 weeks recently. The bleeding has now stopped (about 3 days clear) and I'm starting to feel back to normal physically. Emotionally I'm gutted as we have been trying for so long and a few close relatives who know have said we should wait a while to recover emotionally/physically.
Whilst I agree, I've also read that you're most fertile after a miscarriage and it's taken 18months of inconsistent ovulation/low hormones for me to get pregnant. I don't want to miss what could be an increased chance when my odds are low ordinarily.
The hospital said I should wait until a normal period for dating reasons only, they said nothing about risk of infection or complications getting pregnant straight away. I have no idea when I would ovulate (if) now.
Any experience out there?

@AmyFr @SG121 im going to hold out till tomorrow morning. Ill let you know anyway soon as i do it. Ive been tired a lot earlier at night but cant decide whether its becuase ive done nothing all day and no motivatiin if you get me?! Xx

lamby12 · 10/02/2021 07:53

Hi everyone, thanks for all your replies about my low AMH. I trying to put it out my mind for now until we can see the consultant. I need to have another blood test on day 1 of my period (should be Monday 15th) then with those results we can see the consultant again.

@CookieMonster3001 I'm glad you finally got your peak. And that you're feeling a bit better! Fingers crossed for you this month, nothing wrong with feeling cautiously optimistic.

@Absy that's useful to know about IVF for as low as 1, hopefully the consultant will give us that option. But that then gives a difficult decision as to whether to do it (we don't have any savings!)

In terms of your job, I would say go for it (or at least apply!). I have been in the same situation sort of, staying in my current job which I've been in for about 5 years basically waiting for a maternity leave. What id really like to do is leave and focus on my own stationary business. I've kept my own business at a low level and never pushed it because I thought I'll do it after/when I've had maternity leave. Anyway the miscarriage made me realise that a big part of why I as so upset, as well as the loss, was my 'plan' not working out and being stuck in the job for longer. So I've decided to just go for it - especially after the low AMH. We may never have another child or it may be many many years, and what a regret if I stayed in the job just waiting for that! Nicely times I was furloughed a few weeks ago and I have another few weeks ahead. I'm going full steam on my business and it's taking off. I've been too busy to be obsessive about TTC and really enjoying it. So go for the job I say!!!! I definitely feel I'm less stressed and happier, so hopefully that will be supportive of TTC.

@SG121 I'm so glad you got your BFP! Amazing. Everything crossed for you.

@AmyFr my daughter is October 2018 too. We started trying when she was one, hoping for another around when she was 2. If it was positive this month she'd be three. I was previously obsessed with age gap because I have a close in age sibling, but I'm trying to relax about it now. I have a friend who has just had baby 2 when child 1 has gone to school, and I suppose there's something nice about that. I am worried she'll end up an only child though because of my low fertility and that breaks my heart. Nothing bad to those who choose to only have one but in everything I've pictured 2, that's why it breaks my heart. How do you feel about age gap?

@Emmav2020 I have everything crossed for you on your test today - good luck!!!!!!

SG121 · 10/02/2021 09:44

@Emmav2020 massive congratulations! Where in the UK are you? I rang my doctors and I had to fill in a form which goes to midwives ( make sure you let them know that you haven’t had a period in between ) as my midwife rang me yesterday for dating purposes because I hadn’t bled in between. I tried to push for an early scan but they said unless I’m bleeding or have pain I’ll have to wait until 12 weeks. I’m South Wales so it might be different where you are. Try and relax! I did a digital test this morning and it said 3+ so I’m happy and trying to stay positive x

CookieMonster3001 · 10/02/2021 09:44

@Emmav2020 fantastic news!! Congratulations! I would defo cancel your smear test and just let the dr's know. I know when I fall pregnant again, I am defo going to want an early scan so cant hurt to ask :)

@lamby12 that's good, Monday isn't too far away! Back in the TWW again and it already feels draining lol. I honestly hate wishing my life away! Going to try and stay positive and not think too much about it.

Applecrumble24 · 10/02/2021 10:19

@Emmav2020 congratulations !
sorry if I missed your story further up but am I right that you didn't wait for af after mc before ttc? Did you have a natural mc? Do you know when you ovulated?

Emmav2020 · 10/02/2021 10:28

@SG121 thank you. Im in Manchester. so ive rang the docs, spoke to receptionist and the doc will ring me at some point today. I spoke to her 2 weeks ago she rang to see how i was. Yes i will definitely let them know ive not had a period. Def going to push for an early scan.

@CookieMonster3001 thank you. yes i will try for an early scan.

Im so scared, i dont even feel excited. its annoying previous pregnancies haven't ended well and it ruins it for the future. x

Emmav2020 · 10/02/2021 10:31

@Applecrumble24 heyy thank you. Yes so i had mc early jan, no not had AF. I was going to wait till i did but then i had a few drinks the weekend after the bleeding stopped and one thing lead to another and then thought sod it what happens, happens. I had quite a few twinges on 28th and 29th jan so i think o ovulated then. xx

Applecrumble24 · 10/02/2021 10:39

@Emmav2020 thank you. I'm in a similar position although no bfp yet.

I had surgical management of mmc on 21st Jan. Meant to wait to dtd but it just happened and we've carried on Blush
My problem is, preg tests are still positive from mmc so I have no idea if it's possible to ovulate with hcg still in your system and I can't tell if its a new pregnancy!
I hope you can try to relax and enjoy being pregnant but I can imagine you must be a bag of nervesFlowers

AmyFr · 10/02/2021 10:59

@Emmav2020 congratulations! I think also mention you didn’t have a negative after the mc as that might mean they are more inclined to scan you too! Good luck!

@lamby12 that sounds fab about the business and you focusing on your own interests! Well done!

Re: the age gap, I wanted roughly a three year gap simply for affordability with nursery. We can’t afford for me not to work but couldn’t afford for me to work if I had a baby before funding kicks in for my daughter. I am conscious of the gap, but I’m not overly worried yet as it fits with my ideas at the moment. It must be hard when it doesn’t fit with your plans and ideas though. My brother and I are three years apart so that always struck me as a good gap...

Hope you ladies are doing well! I’m live streaming construction noise into my pupils’ houses today. It is SO LOUD round here!

Do let us know how you get on, Emma!

Emmav2020 · 10/02/2021 11:59

So ive just came on the phone with my doctor, shes lovely and been my doc for 20 years. So they have cancelled my smear but need it done soon after birth as i had abnormal cells on my smear this time last year. Also i asked her about aspirin, told her i had been taking now for a week and she told me not to as they only tell women who have the following: high BMI, previous misscarriages from about 12 weeks plus, suffer with anything to do with blood clots or anything similar and over 40. she said the ones i have taken wont do any harm and just stick to folic acid and a healthy diet including a lot of vitamin c. told her i had no AF in between and she was said, said 'things like this happen all the time and nothing to worry about' I have now got to ring the midwife to start my referral. xx

lamby12 · 10/02/2021 13:26

Wow congrats @Emmav2020 amazing!!!!!!! That's brilliant and sounds like your doctor was really helpful.

So I'm 7dpo today I've had some spotting this morning (teeny tiny bit of pink) and I've got cramps, a headache and a raging temper....! Angry basically pms but feels very early. Could just be a horribly early start to AF but I'm really hoping implantation spotting... going to try and not think about it! X

CookieMonster3001 · 10/02/2021 19:39

@Emmav2020 wow your doctor sounds lovely! Hope the midwife referral goes well :)

@lamby12 those sound quite positive! How long is your LP usually? Fingers crossed it is implantation!

2DPO for me and my gosh is it dragging already! I am trying to ignore any symptoms because I know it means nothing at this stage!!!

AmyFr · 10/02/2021 20:47

@lamby12 fingers crossed for you! Not too much longer to go hopefully!

I’m not even in my fertile period until tomorrow (low fertility). Already dragging. 😂

@Emmav2020 that’s so good about an understanding doctor. Keep us posted!

Toastedsesame · 10/02/2021 21:56

Have just read this whole thread and really rooting for you @lamby12 fingers and toes crossed.

I miscarried at 5 weeks on 31st Jan so I'm cd11 today. My son is 3 and we have been ttc for 5 months now. I'm hoping desperately that we can conceive again this cycle. I can empathise with the grief not only for the future baby but the "plan" being ruined. I was also holding onto the positive news of a new baby in an otherwise shit time.

Good luck to everyone trying again.

ChubbyCheeks07 · 11/02/2021 09:25

Hi ladies, I was wondering if I could join as I’m currently TTC after my miscarriage back in January (at 8 weeks) it was my first pregnancy :(. I had a natural miscarriage at home.

Congratulations to everyone that have got their BFP, I hope you all have a happy and a very healthy pregnancy.

I asked my midwife when I can try again and she said after 1 cycle. It’s been 3 weeks and 3 days since my miscarriage and I feel ready to start TTC again. I’m not using any OPKs and just trying every other day and hoping to catch it. Reading all your messages have been very uplifting and encouraging. Xx

lamby12 · 13/02/2021 06:56

Hi ladies, so AF is here again for me - arrived yesterday in full force, at least not days of light spotting this time to get me too confused.

Second AF since the miscarriage and I spent yesterday pretty down. I swear each one gets worse - you feel like you will get pregnant so soon after because of all the stuff you hear about increased fertility but with each AF it feels like you're further away from what was.

Anyway trying to keep busy again and the only silver lining is that I am booked for blood tests on Tuesday whilst on AF, swabs the following week and then we can see the private consultant again and get some proper information on next steps.

Hope everyone else is ok, good luck to those still in TWW!

Absy · 14/02/2021 20:29

@lamby12 have you checked what your NHS trust is willing to fund? Normally under NICE guidelines they should fund up to 3 cycles, though not all do. Worth checking

@Emmav2020 congratulations! I hope that it all goes well

I’m in the 2WW so at the moment I’m trying to forget that I am. I’ve been feeling a bit weird, but that could be down to the new medication I’m on so I’ll see.

AmyFr · 14/02/2021 21:24

Hi to those who have just joined, and sorry for your loses.

Oh @lamby12 that’s disappointing. I’m so sorry to hear that AF came 😞 . I hope the consultant is helpful though when you see them, and that you are feeling a little bit better than yesterday.

@Absy hope you’re doing ok. The TWW is so crap. I’m due to ovulate tomorrow or Tuesday I think... who knows? What will be will be. Trying not to obsess over it yet. I’m sure I will though! 🤦‍♀️

jodielouise26 · 15/02/2021 07:39

Morning ladies ☺️

Sorry to hear of all your losses; but congratulations to those who have their bfp again! And sending baby dust to all of those ttc like me ❤️🌈

Hope you don't mind me joining in here.

I had a miscarriage in January between 11 and 12 weeks. Like most of you say I was told to wait until first cycle (I think, unless it's just what I've been reading everywhere, I was so upset I can't remember what was said to me really)
I don't want to wait until first cycle so we've been DTD a lot more than usual tbh.
I'm tracking ovulation on premom strips.. just waiting for that high/peak to appear! Although on 11/2 the darkness of the line was pretty much on par with the control line although saying low..
I guess I'll just keep testing and hoping & praying. xx

AmyFr · 17/02/2021 21:38

Hi ladies how are you all doing?

@jodielouise26 I’m so sorry for your loss. I think trust your own reading of the tests more than an app saying “low” - fingers crossed for you this month.

I’m not getting positive OPKs yet this month but I think I have just missed it with the testing. Only using cheap ones. My temp should change soon if I’m right 😂

How are you feeling @Emmav2020 and @SG121 ?

How were your bloods @lamby12? Hope you’re ok.

Hope you’re all ok. I feel better this week, most positive. Fingers crossed it lasts!

jodielouise26 · 17/02/2021 21:46

@AmyFr so I actually got a high reading, last night, this AM and this evening 👀 will have to inform the other half and beg to BD 🤣

AmyFr · 17/02/2021 21:51

@jodielouise26 haha I know that feeling! Good luck!

I am going to go for it once more tomorrow (both knackered today 😂) and hopefully I will have covered all bases if I have had / have a late ovulation.

If I have no joy this month I might try the clearblue tests... just so expensive!

jodielouise26 · 17/02/2021 21:54

@AmyFr Thankyou! Good luck to you! Sending you all the baby dust possible ! ✨

Emmav2020 · 18/02/2021 09:38

@AmyFr im doing ok thanks. just feeling little hungover every morning, tired and bloated. waiting for my first appt. how are you? x
