Hey

This is my 9th month TTC my first baby and I'm 33. I got static smiley on Friday on OPK, and now I'm in my TWW - again! I'm currently on furlough so the wait seems even longer and more painful and I definitely end up going a bit crazy 🤪

Anyone else in similar boat and need keeping sane?! Also any TTC tips you've heard of? I will literally try anything at the moment haha.

Hi all, I’m brand new here! Found it so encouraging to read all your experiences and support of each other. I’m 37 and in my 2nd month ttc and currently 3 dpo, so the long 2 week wait ahead. It’s been a long time getting here as my husband didn’t want kids, but after a lot of prayer over the last few years (we are Christians) his heart changed pretty dramatically this year. So I feel we have already been through a lot and a huge hurdle. Now I’m trying not to get obsessive or panicky with each passing month due to my age, I turn 38 in a few months.
I’ve always had perfectly regular periods and never been on birth control due to migraines. Started tracking a few months ago and have been taking supplements. Filled with excitement to be finally trying but also some fear around whether I’m ovulating every month etc. Can I ask what time of the day you test with OPKs? Last month I got a dark line but it appeared after the 5 mins. It stresses me out that dilute urine or texting at the wrong times can make you miss the surge. I don’t really like them lol.

Suemay803 · 01/07/2020 09:18

Hi everyone, I'm brand new to mums net, I'm 34 and month 2 TTC, I can test in about 10 days 🤞 has anyone got any tips on trying not to over analyse everything?!

LMA27 · 01/07/2020 09:52

Hi @Faith82 So exciting for you! I use clear blue opk but they advise to test first thing in the morning and only once a day. It says for reliable fertility results you must use the urine after your longest sleep, then once you see high fertility can test more often if you chose to. But I haven’t used any other type of tests and this is only my first month using the clear blue opk. I’m at high fertility now but waiting for it to show peak, according to my FLO app that’s tomorrow.

Hi @Suemay803 honestly it’s so hard isn’t it, I always convince myself any ache or weird body feeling is pregnancy during the TWW but I think just trying to relax and not googling every symptom is my advice, but it’s hard.. I never test before my missed period I’ll always wait until to see if it comes on time, that way I’m not disappointing myself each day hoping for the test to be a BFP. But some people prefer to test sooner x

Flittingabout · 01/07/2020 11:33

Welcome all.

Wow @faith82 I can't imagine what it must be like that he has had a change of heart now. Brilliant obviously! but also I must admit I would have mixed emotions about it and worry that if only he had come to this new place years earlier it might be a lot easier! Sounds like you are all geared up and ready to go for it though!

LT103 · 01/07/2020 11:43

Welcome. I’m fairly new to this page too having only joined last month but everyone is so helpful and so welcoming.
@Faith82 that’s great that he had had a change of heart and definitely not too old. Lots of people late 30s on here and still seeing lots of bfp!! I used the femometer strips for opk. They said not to use first morning urine as don’t make Lh overnight? Also to limit fluids 2 hrs before. I did around lunchtime. Once I got a value I tested three times a day, once before lunch or mid morning. Once mid afternoon and once about 2 hours after dinner. Thankfully not at work just now haha. Not sure how I’ll manage this once I’m back.

@Suemay803 no tips here. I spend my days on google searching every little thing to see if it’s a symptom 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Faith82 · 01/07/2020 12:01

Hi I’m new here too! And also my 2nd month of ttc! The things that help me are reading (I’m a book addict and it literally just stops you thinking about anything else) and having wee projects, things in the house to work on etc. It all helps take my mind off things! I’m 3 dpo and already convincing myself it hasn’t happened this month, telling myself I would have a sensation or something but no symptoms! X

Faith82 · 01/07/2020 12:06

@Flittingabout thanks! It’s not too bad as we’ve only been married 5 years and the first 2 years I wasn’t even thinking of children, it’s really been the last 3 years that have been hard but the good thing about us having a faith is that we trust God’s timing and I always thought if it’s meant to happen God will change his heart and so I just waited quietly for 3 years, praying, and gradually it happened and we are both just ready now it’s crazy! X

Stabal · 01/07/2020 12:41

@Flittingabout have you taken another test?

Stabal · 01/07/2020 12:43

Hi to the newcomers today!

@Suemay803 no advice re-overanalysing.. Since my miscarriage I'm even more obsessed because I now know it's possible for my body to conceive 🤦‍♀️

Flittingabout · 01/07/2020 13:06

No not yet @Stabal. I ordered some on Monday and they are due for delivery tomorrow (no time slot). I'm not sure if I will wait until Friday morning or go with afternoon urine. I haven't had any symptoms that I don't always get with AF, i.e. I am cramping and feel a little sick but I always do! And I am now 3/4 days late so not sure whether it was a coincidence that I invalidated Mondays test but it would have been positive?

To sum up, still confused!

Stabal · 01/07/2020 13:54

@Flittingabout I really really hope it's positive for you! When I was pregnant I was convinced AF was coming any minute of every day because everything was the same as AF. This went on for 4 weeks until I finally tested lol. And I only tested because I was convinced the pain was appencitis and wanted to rule out pregnancy so I could get back to worrying about dying of an exploding appendix 😂 So you're not out until she actually arrives! Please keep us updated 🤞

Mia1985x · 01/07/2020 16:37

Hi @LMA27 that's a good idea to come to this group instead of Google 👍🏻 I am going to try to do that too from now on.

@Faith82 that's great about your husbands change of heart and nice how excited you are. In terms of time of day for OPKs on the CB advanced ones I always test first thing in the morning as they advise that and then if I am nearing ovulation and want to check for static I have sometimes tested again at night after a flashing in the morning. For the femometer cheapies I get a box of 50 for £10 which have always worked great for me and because I have so many once I see a flashing smile I have often do a couple of these a day. I dont know if this is the healthiest way to do it as I can become slightly obsessed but finding espec during lockdown I cant help myself 🙈

@Suemay803 I wish I had some tips for you but i am so guilty of over analysing everything so would feel like a hypocrite if i attempted any advice. At least its reassuring to hear I am not alone and crazy in doing this 🤣

So after 14 months of very regular ovulation and periods (like to the day) this month I appear to be either ovulating later than normal or possibly not going to ovulate at all (I've read you can still have the surge and your body gets ready to ovulate but then never actually does some months). I expected to ovulate on sunday but I have still not had the rise in BBT (which I seem to get the day after ovulation every month without fail) and I am also still getting positive OPKs. I wonder if AF will come when expected and I'll just have a shorter Luteal phase than normal or everything will shift a few days. Does anyone have experience/advice on this?

Also what's everyone's thoughts on some of the tips to encourage implantation during the TWW (pineapple core, Brazil nuts, pomegranate etc). I have heard such mixed things and obv no hard evidence but sometimes think anything is worth a go.

Stabal · 01/07/2020 17:17

@Mia1985x what day of cycle are you on? It's possible you're just going to go slightly later. I know it's disheartening to think you've not ovulated but it's pretty common to miss a cycle! It could be down to a number of things like stress or sickness etc. As for the implantation, I take calc fluor during TWW. You can Google and see what you think.. It's to do with the tissue. No idea if it's any use but I'll try anything lol

Mia1985x · 01/07/2020 18:10

Hi @Stabal I am going to google that now and have a read up, thanks for info!
I am on CD 16 but always normally ovulate on CD 13. Just done another OPK and positive result. It is strange because I got empty circles on CB right up until CD 12 when I got my first flashing smile. Whereas I normally have flashing from about CD 8 and a solid on CD 12. I got flashing day 12 and 13 this month and then ran out of CB.

butterfly5291 · 01/07/2020 18:57

Hi everyone,

I'm getting my Mirena coil out on Friday hopefully, although the strings are missing so it might be a difficult procedure and chance I'll have to go to a specialist clinic which isn't even open due to Covid!

I'm due to get married at the end of December but with everything being so uncertain we thought we'd start the process of TTC (trying to conceive) now.

I'm 33 and have endometriosis, although had laparoscopy two years ago to remove endo tissue do hoping not to encounter any issues.

My GP has said not to start testing for when I'm ovulating as it will just make me more anxious but I'm literally going to have no clue when anything might happen.

Anybody else experiencing anything similar?

We're keeping ours plans quiet from friends and family for now so be great to be able to share thoughts and worries with people ☺️ and I've got a lot of worries already 😂

LMA27 · 01/07/2020 20:21

Is it normal to get anxious that I won’t get a static smiley? I’ve never done opk tests before, my od is tomorrow according to my app. I have 4 tests left, do you think it’s worth doing one tonight to check if it’s changed?
OH has been working so much lately and we’ve not been as active as we usually would around this time, so I just want to make sure when we DTD that it’s at the best possible time.
I already feel like I’m thinking about this too much :( x

Faith82 · 02/07/2020 05:57

@butterfly5291 so exciting to have your wedding coming up and to be starting ttc!

I think that doctors can sometimes say such weird things. And each doctor would give totally different advice! (My old doctor told me I had to convince my husband to have kids quickly as time was running out for me. I told him that putting pressure on my husband was not going to help things and could drive us further away. I knew my husband just needed space and time and me being patient allowed his heart to change in his own time. I changed doc straight away after that appointment!) in your case, I understand they don’t want us to get anxious, but like you say it could be more anxiety inducing to not know when to actively try! I watched a friend go through 10 years of hell ttc, the works, when I recently started ttc I asked her which OPKs she would recommend and she said she didn’t know as she never used any! I think for some people it helps to know that your ovulating and gives you more peace, whilst others would rather not have the faff and stress of testing. But I can’t help but wonder if you would ever know if you were trying on the right days that way. I would totally do what you feel is best for you, and your mental health x

LMA27 · 02/07/2020 06:34

I did another opk last night, it was still a flashing smiley so I took another this morning and it’s still a flashing smiley.. I have 2 tests left so I guess I’ll just take them the next 2 mornings and hope one turns into a static :( x

LMA27 · 02/07/2020 08:15

Hi @butterfly5291 so exciting you’re getting married in December, I think by then your wedding day will go ahead as planned, I really hope it does for you.
Maybe with the distraction of the wedding you’ll fall pregnant quickly I’ve heard that happens sometimes, if you’re distracted by something else going on it’s like your body relaxes and naturally it just happens x

butterfly5291 · 02/07/2020 08:50

@Faith82 thank you for your reply.

It is very exciting....just all uncertain still but trying to focus on positives. Although I did dream last night that I couldn't fit in my dress because I was pregnant 😂

I understand the doctors point as well all know stress and anxiety won't help this situation. But at the same time, if I don't test then I'll just be worrying if I have even ovulated. I've only had about 6 months off hormonal contraception in the past 18 years so have no idea what my body is going to do.

What OPK tests do people recommend? Especially as I will have to do them everyday as I literally have no clue what my cycle is🤷

butterfly5291 · 02/07/2020 08:55

@LMA27 thank you for the message.
I hope you're right.... although I still want to fit in my dress 😂

How long have you been TTC?

Flittingabout · 02/07/2020 09:13

Morning all, I wanted to update you.

I got my new tests delivered this morning and had saved my FMU. I hope it is within time! I posted that I tested when 1 day late but flooded it so couldn't rely on the result. I was super careful and think I have a BFP! Moreover, I have cramps, feel hot and sick and AF is now 4 days late so it seems like it just might true after all this time!

LMA27 · 02/07/2020 09:20

@butterfly5291 haha I’m sure you would make it fit :) this is my 3rd cycle TTC. My first month I didn’t track anything and just started to look into to, the second mont I downloaded the flo app and this month is my first time using opk. But I’ve had flashing smileys for 7 days now, according to my app i should be ovulating today but the opk didn’t say that this morning so who knows.

@Mia1985x did you buy more tests to check if you were due to ovulate later?
I don’t think there is any scientific facts that you can encourage implantation, I think just eating the right foods helps but there’s no proof that certain foods can help. But I guess it doesn’t hurt to try them? X

LMA27 · 02/07/2020 09:22

@Flittingabout oh wow!! That’s amazing news, I really hope it is a BFP. do you have a photo of this one? X

LT103 · 02/07/2020 09:23

@Flittingabout that’s lovely news!!! Congratulations x
