Thanks ladies, still feeling a bit sorry for myself but getting better! I've also been told I need surgery on my hand for an issue I've had for 2 years and basically told the consultant I wanted to have a baby first and preferred to live with the pain and get it sorted in the future. Yesterday, I've also told my friends I'm not going with them for our annual skiing trip - so many decisions, there's definitely no going back now!!

pickle, at my first appointment I had a 30min chat about how women fertility decreases with age, how the process of fertilisation works and what the solutions are for single women with no known fertility issues - I.e IUI and then IVF if IUI hasn't worked after 6 cycles. The doctor then did an internal scan (about 15min) and took measurements of everything, womb and lining, cervix, ovaries and number of follicles and their growth. They also look for cysts and check the blood flow to the uterus. The only thing they can't see is the tubes, hence why they recommend doing an hycosy to check they're open as this is where fertilisation occurs with IUI. The doctor also told me to start vitamin D and folic acid and explained how I could get help choosing a donor etc
Don't hesitate to ask lots of questions!!

I've had my blood taken a week ago and still no results, which is annoying as I wanted to take them with me to the clinic on Monday.

kwick, karen, stork, any news?? Thinking of you

Have a good weekend all

Karendvm · 03/12/2016 15:27

Hi all. Betas still doubling, I'm still bleeding-/heavy spotting. I don't know what is happening. Just taking it day by day. Jack is still with me, he has good moments and then some scary ones. Life is a bit too much right now. Just wish I knew if my baby was still there. Google has povided so many stories of women who bleed and do ok. I'm either having a miscarriage or I'm not, right?

pickle my first appt was pretty much the same as what pez described. Make sure to ask questions, maybe right down a list like what pez wrote out so you don't miss anything. Good luck!

pez that sucks about your hand, but you must be getting excited about being able to start trying soon!

pickle162 · 03/12/2016 15:32

Thanks pez :) I'm so excited, will be a nice post Christmas excitement.

Sorry about the news about your hand hun, hopefully during the 9 months(!!) you'll be able to get it done.

Hope everyone is doing ok, I've got Xmas party tonight Xmas Grin in that annoying stage of too early to get ready but can't do much so watching crap on tv

StorkAhoy · 03/12/2016 18:59

karen I'm the same, taken three strip tests all negative, though I'm not due to test till Thursday. But I'm now bleeding like I have my period, very brown, some pinkish too, and I feel like I have my period.

So yeah, I'm ok, still holding onto hope as I too have read those stories karen! But my realistic nature is starting to click in....and I think I've got a failed implantation.

I'm wondering how long I will have to wait for my next IVF round....

Pez blimey, that's a tough decision, to do it before or after baby, if it was me I'd be scared about coping with baby one handed! I'm clumsy enough!!

pickle yep pretty much what the others said, but don't forget this is your time to ask your questions, so don't forget to ask any thing no you are curious about. Question everything!

INeedNewShoes · 04/12/2016 09:42

Pickle - this is fab news that you've got your consultation booked Smile. You have been so patient and now you're getting to make a start! My first consultation sounds a bit different to UK clinics as it rolled various things into one appointment that I think are dealt with in separate appointments here: going through my medical history, checking that I had carried out all the necessary blood tests etc., 'counselling' to establish that I understood the issues surrounding donor conception and was in a good position to be a single mother, discussion about choosing donors and explaining the process to me.

Karen - it's taken ages but I've just twigged that 'beta' is 'hcg'. If yours is still doubling then you've still got a chance despite the bleeding. Its not fair being in this state of limbo though Flowers When will you next have a test?

Stork - sorry that things aren't looking promising for you. Try to keep your chin up. You'll get there in the end, and hopefully and quite possibly with your next attempt!

Pez - sorry to hear about your hand Sad. If you have the op once you already have a baby, will you have someone able to come and stay with you for a few weeks to look after the child? I would have thought you'll have to rest your hand after the op to make sure it heals and small children and resting anything don't really tally! If you do have someone who can help though it would be a great excuse for you to have a break Smile

Caution - I hope you're feeling more settled today. I think everyone has little phases of feeling like its all too much so hopefully its that and not a bipolar blip. Get yourself to your GP if you're in any doubt though Flowers

kwick · 04/12/2016 12:36

stork my only BFP ever I got 4 days before OTD (which is always day 16 at my FC).

Sorry you have had a tough time caution

Jesus pez... how did the jaw thing come about? Hope you are better now!
Yep I second shoes take loads of pain relief before hycosy.!!!

karen you are an amazeballs lady! Hang in there!

Still have loads to catch up on but Carpetright beckons!!!

OP posts:
kwick · 04/12/2016 13:11

caution I hope you are feeling better. This is an intense time of the year - maybe just slow it down a bit and take your vitamin D!!!

shoes so pleased things are progressing well. You are an inspiration to me.

pickle you will get your first BFP before you know it!!! So exciting!!!
I think my first consultant app was a bit atypical - as soon as she heard about my blood disorder it all halted and I was referred for genetic counselling Confused

kwick · 04/12/2016 13:22

So I got a BFN... on to round 3 of IVF!!! I am covering my pain and disappointment with retail therapy!!!

OP posts:
taydex · 04/12/2016 17:02

Oh Kwick - sending big hugs xxx

StorkAhoy · 04/12/2016 18:14

kwick I covered my disappointment with pizza and a tub of Ben and jerrys. Given that I normally eat clean and non processed it was one heck of a fall off the wagon.

I'm sorry yours failed, let's be IVF buddies, huh?!

pickle162 · 04/12/2016 18:33

Need to catch up fully but kwick sorry to hear this Hun.proper sucks

INeedNewShoes · 04/12/2016 18:47

I hope a bit of food and shopping indulgence has proven therapeutic for you both Kwick and Stork. I'm really really sorry that this cycle hasn't worked out for you. It's rubbish that this process is so hard but recharge your perseverance and on to the next attempt!

CautionHormone · 04/12/2016 18:59

Thank you Pickle, Shoes & Kwick for your well wishes. I feel a bit better but not completely. For the second time this year my Grandad is being investigated for cancer - he's got to have so many tests and consultations before Christmas it's unreal. He's being seen under the '2 week rule' so hopefully if it is anything nasty it'll be found quickly. Just hope it's not!! One thing after another at the moment.

Kwick I'm so sorry you got a BFN :( that's gutting. When will you proceed to do round 3 of IVF? Retail shopping is always good. Big hugs Flowers

Shoes it's been a few weeks/a month now and it just seems to get worse. I'll see how I go... Thank you, though. I appreciate it. ❤️

Karendvm · 04/12/2016 20:31

Oh kwick I'm sorry to hear that. I'm thinking about looking into ivf. Maybe next time there will be 3 of us doing a cycle!

I go back for more bloodwork on Tuesday. They wanted me to wait 4 days. The labs are closed today or else the 48 hours would have been fine, dr is really positive, I feel like I've miscarried although the bleeding has stopped. I'm exhausted. Up all night worried jack was going to die, he has great days and then bad nights.

Ladies, I hope that you are all finding something positive this weekend. X

I took this picture of jack last night.

TTC through Donor IUI or Donor IVF or just undecided - all welcome! #makeithappen #loadsofBFPs!!!!
kwick · 04/12/2016 21:48

karen please tell Jack what a lovely doggy he is and give him a big hug from me Flowers
Please make sure you are taking care of yourself too - ok?

stork when are you starting IVF? I need to see my consultant, hopefullg I can see her either tomorrow or Wednesday - rest of week I am either away or in meetings...

StorkAhoy · 04/12/2016 22:11

Hey all,

So kwick not sure yet, I'm assuming February. I'm 99% convinced I've got my period now, so then January's and February's, then start meds end Feb, I hope. Obviously need to do test on Thursday and draw an official line under this round, and have at the clinic.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and commiserations. And caution, I think I missed what happened, but hope you're ok! Xoxox

Chasing · 04/12/2016 22:52

Hi ladies,

I've been reading through the previous posts and it's been amazing to see everyone's journey so far. I was sorry to read some of the more recent posts with sad news, but it's clear to see that theres real strength in everyone that's got them to this point and the only thing to do is keep going.

I've just tested early after my second IUI and think I have a BFP. I'm going to hold off testing again until my OTD to avoid driving myself any crazier Confused

Has anyone used a Manchester clinic? I get the impression that us northerners are a little under represented on here Wink

kwick · 05/12/2016 07:53

Welcome chasing!!! And fx you have a BFP!!!

OP posts:
pickle162 · 05/12/2016 12:55

Hi chasing welcome!!

Ooh fingers crossed for BFP!!! Are you a fellow singleton? When is ur official test day?

Pez82 · 05/12/2016 19:37

Hi all
So much to catch up on!

First, welcome chasing! Fingers crossed the BFP gets confirmed!

Thank you all for your good wishes; the jaw is getting better. To answer your question kwick, there's apparently no real cause behind it, it happened like a stiff neck happens... it was pretty awful though.
stork, shoes, you're right re the surgery, I am definitely making an emotional decision here rather than the rational one. I think that basically I am accepting the fact that I won't get the surgery done until I have a toddler! It's an injury I've had for 2 years so I've sort of got used to the pain and adapted my movements so hopefully I won't get too clumsy with a baby...

Karen, any news today? hang in there, I understand this is all very overwhelming but there are some positive signs

kwick, so sorry to hear about the BFN but hopefully you can start your next round of IVF soon. Adelante!

Caution, look after yourself please, I hope things get better for you

So, I've had my hycosy today and all went well - both tubes are open so I guess I was given the green light for IUI.

However, just picked up my blood results from the GP and I'm concerned about my thyroid function - my TSH level is 3.55 and I remember the RE saying they would want it to be below 2 for pregnancy. Is it bad news?? He also said my endometrial thickness was not great today so I'm wondering if this is linked. Has any of you being prescribed something to improve this? I'll email the RE tomorrow.

I also found out I'm CMV negative but I still want to go ahead with my chosen donor so I'll sign the paperwork to accept the risk.

So tonight I feel a bit up and down - maybe I just worry too much...

kwick · 05/12/2016 20:26

Great news on Hycosy pez!!! Well done!

I am joining you with another IUI cycle - this time stimulated. Consultant really thought it through and got a second opinion.

What is RE?

My thyroid was 1.04 last check and I am still on 50mcg thyroxine daily - hope that helps?

Sorry about CMV negative thing - it is a right bugger!

Gonna go to bed now... very tired (and cold)

OP posts:
Pez82 · 05/12/2016 22:55

Welcome to a new IUI cycle then Smile

RE=reproductive endocrinologist (I've probably been spending too much time on US based websites)

Thanks re thyroid. I read it could take some time to work so hopefully I can start taking the tablets very soon.

Google is so good and so dangerous at the same time when it comes to health queries!!

StorkAhoy · 06/12/2016 10:27

so....the AF from hell continues - the worst, heaviest, grossest AF I have ever had, but at least its an AF, most girls have to wait weeks for theirs after a failed transfer... Called the Clinic, they say to test tomorrow, but frankly we all know its a BFN, and thats ok. Onwards and upwards!

I will call them back tomorrow with a result and rebook the same donor and get a consultation booked in for the protocol review.

I have no idea about my thyroid, so good luck pez!

chasing welcome and thanks for the sympathy. xxx and congrats on BFP, I hope it sticks!!

Pez82 · 06/12/2016 12:39

Sorry to hear this stork but as you say it's probably a good thing a new cycle starts now so you don't have to wait months before trying again.

The doctor has already issued me with a prescription for my thyroid so I guess it's a good thing I worried. One more pill to take on top of all the other stuff I'm taking, I'm like an ambulant pharmacy at the moment!!!

Latenightreader · 06/12/2016 12:47

chasing I'm using a clinic in Manchester. I'm currently in the TWW (testing on the 14th) and trying not to think too much about it...
