Hi all,

Just wanted to start a thread for all of us over 35 just starting out.

I am: 36 (37 in Nov)
Cycle #1 CD 22

I've been 'prepping' my body for this for a year, lost weight, increased my fitness levels and been taking vitamins etc so I feel like I've been mentally preparing for this for AGES, as a result I'm finding the waiting game torturous! I've been tracking my cycles, 27 days average, and using OPK's - just started that this month. We dtd the day before getting a smiley face and then twice on the day we got one.

Are there others who feel impatient/worried like me because you feel time is not on our sides? So bloody stressful!

No idea why half of that was in bold!

SoozC · 27/08/2017 18:33

Just poking my head in. Af arrived on cue (day after wedding!) so another cycle starts.

Blueberry, fingers crossed for you!!

I'm thinking of trying acupuncture. Who knows, can't hurt!

Janefx40 · 27/08/2017 19:46

Congrats on the wedding @SoozC sorry about AF :(

Let me know how you get in with Acupunture - I'd like to try this too x

Spargle · 27/08/2017 19:47

Well, the day after the wedding is not the worst case scenario, at least... Sorry it arrived at all, though, @SoozC

Sorry to hear that you're not seeming to have any more success, @Janefx40. Good luck with the test!

AF arrived for me this afternoon. As I've been temperature charting, I got a convincing drop in temperature this morning, so at least I didn't wonder if it was implantation bleeding, for once, and so I've been delighted to seek solace in ibuprofen and codeine.

@Blueberry1 Fingers still crossed for you. I hope that the acupuncture does work!

@79andnotout I was very pleased to hear that your results have been good so far. There seems to be a lot of AF around, so hopefully yours will play along, and you can get started. Good luck!

Blueberry1 · 28/08/2017 00:01

@79andnotout - I swear my cycle got more irregular as soon as I started tracking it! It was also bona-fide late several times and always BFN Confused. My OH is already a Dad and didn't object to concept, just felt too old to do it again. He even said "we should have met 5 years earlier" grrr!. He always needs time to get used to new ideas, so now he's quite relaxed and supportive about IVF.

@janefx40 - sorry AF on its way. My luteal phase is a bit short at 11-12 days, but consultant said that's no problem. I think if less than 10 days it can cause trouble. If you track using OPKs and BBT at least for a few months, you should be able to measure precisely.

@Sooz hope you enjoyed wedding Flowers Wine Cake. Now focus on getting BFP!

@Spargle - AF boo! Well at least you were tracking and were prepared.

As for me it's now 5 days post transfer, so little speck may have implanted. No symptoms that can't be due to Cyclogest, so once again I have genuinely no clue if BFP on the cards or not.

Janefx40 · 28/08/2017 07:07

Hi @Blueberry1 I've been using OPKs for 6 months or more and I know pretty much exactly when I ovulate. My cycle varies slightly which is how I know they are so accurate. I get a positive test between days 12 and 16 then 15 days later my period. Plus I usually get ovulation pains.

I don't do BBT because my OPKs work so reliably and I always thought it might be a bit intense. I'll consider it if no joy on next cycle.

Good luck with this bean. Exciting to know it is in there at least. We'll all be thinking of you on Thursday.

Janefx40 · 28/08/2017 07:09

@Spargle sorry about AF. How long is your cycle? Mine is due tomorrow so we can keep each other company next time around.

Spargle · 28/08/2017 07:20

@Janefx40 I think that my cycle is 25 1/2 days most of the time. This one measured at 25 days, so I'm expecting the next one to come in at 26 days. It looks like I might beat you to AF next month, but we should be at a fairly similar place, and I'd certainly be delighted to give it a go. 🙂

79andnotout · 28/08/2017 08:01

Gah, sorry to hear about all the AF's. Mine arrived too in the end, with horrific cramps (worst I've ever had), but at least it did come.

I'm off out as determined to make the best of this amazing weather, but will check in with a better response later. Hope you're all managing to do the same.

79andnotout · 29/08/2017 17:19

Hi Jane, did the migraine predict AF correctly or are you still holding out? How long have you been trying now? It sounds like you have a good idea of your cycle, so hopefully it's just a case of keeping positive and waiting for lady luck to shine.

This month I've been taking vitamins including some fish oil that I found in the cupboard and I wonder if that lengthened my cycle. Lets see what next month brings.

Blueberry when will you know? Fingers crossed the little spec has attached safely.

Spargle that's an arse, but at least the temping is going well! Mine is all over the place. Several pets and a weak bladder work against me for same time testing, and also my thermometer seems to switch itself off as often as not.

Sorry about AF Sooz - hope it didn't put a dampener on your honeymoon if you are having one.

My friend swears by her acupuncture although it hasn't resulted in a pregnancy yet. I think she's battling all sorts of fertility issues though, but it makes her feel better at least, and that's an important aspect.

Janefx40 · 29/08/2017 23:26

Hi @79andnotout yes the migraine was bang on time as was AF which started today.

We are now starting our 6th cycle so not long for my age but long enough. Every month that doesn't work seems to confirm my belief that it never will.

I'm going to LH and FSH tests tomorrow morning then AMH on Thursday. Am terrified about the results. I have a scan on 23rd.

I also booked a fertility acupuncture session for Friday morning which I'm looking forward to. I suppose it will hurt but it feels like something positive to be doing.

Glad your period came but sorry about the cramps!

Blueberry1 · 30/08/2017 09:15

Sorry for the disappointing AF arrivals ladies (boo!)

@Janefx40 - I've had acupuncture recently & it didn't hurt, although some needle insertions were a bit uncomfortable. Once the needles are inserted and they leave you, it's very relaxing Smile.

I don't really have any BFP symptoms and anyway symptoms this early are the same as side effects of progesterone, so impossible to tell which they are. Also, some women get no symptoms and then BFP! Clinic blood test (definitive) is Friday morning, which will be CD27, DPO14, 10 days post ET. Might do HPT on Friday morning before going to clinic so if it's another BFN, I'll be prepared. I dreamt last night that I got a BFP. Hope dreams can come true Wink

coastalchick · 31/08/2017 09:37

So, you might recall I got a BFP first time. Sadly on Tuesday we found out I had had a missed miscarriage at 9+3. We had had an early scan and should have been 7+3. Saw heartbeat but monographer put it at 6 weeks. I was really stressing as knew (as had been tracking ovulation and sex) that least it could really be was 7 weeks but was told "you must have your dates wrong".

Some very faint pink last weds and sun. Then small amount of red blood Monday and trip to A&E. Scan on Tuesday but not before some more red blood. On scan it hadn't developed beyond what was shown on early scan and so must've died at some point around 6 weeks.

Got to have first tablet today then in hosp sat for pessaries to get it out as don't want to wait for it to pass naturally. Ended up in A&E for 3 hours last night on morphine drip as had this awful awful pain and couldn't breathe.

Devastated, scared, blaming self, worried, feel a massive sense of loss and unfairness. We want to try again asap but not sure I can face the first trimester and all its worries again.

OH being brilliant but is devastated himself and almost fainted in consultant's room on tuesday when he realised I wasn't being neurotic.

79andnotout · 31/08/2017 09:48

Hi Coastalchick, sorry to hear this. You must be in an awful state. You've still got a lot to deal with so try to be easy on yourself - it's unfair but it's not anyone's fault, just bloody biology. Give yourself time to get your head straight, and then see how you feel.

Glad your OH is being great - support each other and you'll be okay soon.

Blueberry1 · 31/08/2017 14:31

@Coastalchick - so sorry for your loss. Sending Flowers & Chocolate & hope for the future.

Haven't tested yet (now 13DPO, 9 days past ET), but have sore boobs & cramps like just before AF (which is "late" but surely due to Cyclogest?). I think another BFN is on the cards Sad. TBC tomorrow.

79andnotout · 31/08/2017 16:01

Good luck tomorrow, Blueberry. I have my fingers crossed for you. Sore boobs and cramps could mean anything, so keep positive x

Janefx40 · 31/08/2017 16:10

@coastalchick I'm so sorry. Of course you are devastated - it's such a trauma and such a loss. Be kind to yourself - you did nothing wrong - it's just really really unfair.

Any time you need to vent we are here.

Sending virtual hugs

X

Blueberry1 · 01/09/2017 07:49

Did HPT first thing this morning & was very surprised to get clear BFP Smile Smile !!! DP also surprised (probably cos I'd told him I was sure AF was coming). It still seems unreal, but a false positive isn't possible. Off the clinic for blood test shortly.

Spargle · 01/09/2017 08:16

Congratulations! That is the best news! Also a massive relief. Does that mean that I can stop holding my breath? 😉

miraflores81 · 01/09/2017 08:20

Fantastic news blueberry I have been lurking waiting for ur bfp! If that's not too stalkerish! So pleased for you Grin

miraflores81 · 01/09/2017 08:27

coastal chick so sorry to hear what an awful time you're going through. Not your fault at all. Flowers be kind to yourself x

Blueberry1 · 01/09/2017 08:40

Please breathe @Spargle!

Hi @miraflores81 good to hear from you and no you don't sound stalker-ish at all. How are you doing? Hope your pregnancy going smoothly Smile

On bus to clinic now. Still don't quite believe it. Also recognise that given my age, we're not out of the woods until 12/13 week scan. Fingers crossed

Janefx40 · 01/09/2017 10:14

@Blueberry1 well done! I'm so pleased for you. Let us know how it goes at the clinic xxx

79andnotout · 01/09/2017 10:54

Hurray Blueberry! Great news! Hope all goes well at the clinic.

Blueberry1 · 01/09/2017 11:48

Clinic blood test confirmed BFP Grin. 1st scan booked for 3 week's time. In the meantime, I continue Cyclogest (yuck!) and stick to usual precautions. I'm very aware things can go wrong in 1st trimester, especially given my age, so will be very careful & not get too excited yet.

Thanks for all the support in recent months; it's so good to have others to "talk" with, who are in a similar position Smile.
