Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

Is that sperm meets egg Allium? When do they suggest you dtd then? Might have a read, I always feel better if I've got a plan!

Apparently, although some tests are only 20 iu and if I'd have got a negative on one of those they wouldn't be looking into things any further, so I'm hoping they are just being over cautious. I think they'll be checking for retained product and then suggest d&c if there is any. Rally hoping it doesn't come to that.

Yes it is, you can download for free on Amazon and read on the kindle app.

Here is the crux of it ( but there's much more to read):

"Try" every other night starting Day 8 (This assumes a 27-31 day cycle. See detailed version for shorter/ longer cycles.) Buy 10 ovulation predictor kit sticks (Once you know your cycle, you may only need 5) Begin ovulation testing on Day 10. (Test in the AFTERNOON, after holding pee for at least 4 hours.) When test is positive, "try" that night, plus two additional nights in a row.

Skip one night, then do one last "try" Take a home pregnancy test 15 days after your ovulation test was positive, if your period has not begun (Sure, you can take the early ones, but read the section on chemical pregnancies FIRST.) If your ovulation test never goes positive, continue "trying" every other night until when you would have expected your period (or day 35 if you are random), then do a pregnancy test if your period has not begun.

Thanks Allium, I'll take a look at that. Not sure I will last u til 15 days after ov though!

Yes somehow I've managed to be quite patient over the years. With DD1 and DD2, I knew I was pg before I took the test. This most recent one too. I get a sense of huge panic when the hcg kicks in. It hits me hard and I must get high levels of it.

Hi everyone, mind if I join you? I'm sorry for all of your losses. I'm just over 2 weeks post-surgical management for a MMC. Still getting faint positive HPT's, and OPK's seem to be all over the place, so I probably shouldn't be relying on them but am desperate to start trying again. I'm really struggling at the moment. A friend is about 2 weeks ahead in her pregnancy of where I should've been. She doesn't live near me and we don't talk often, but unfortunately she can be very awkward about sensitive issues and sent me a text this week to let me know that all went well with her 12 week scan. I'm happy for her but couldn't she have waited until she saw me and/or I asked?! Hope you are all doing ok ladies.

Allium40 · 02/06/2016 09:42

Hi bear, welcome aboard and sorry for your loss.

I am 4 weeks and 2 days since MC and was bleeding for over 2 weeks and hormonally all over the place. I feel slightly better now but it's still on my mind the whole time and is very painful.

It's hard when there are constant reminders and friends pregnant. Nobody else seems to realise how painful it is. I think it's the bonding and the hormones so it's not like going through as a non-pregnant person.

I think grief can upset hormones too so I'm trying to relax and do breathing exercises.

I've found a site with fertility yoga poses, I'm taking spatone, pregnacare, magnesium ok and have epo on order.

Hope to get back on track asap.

Good luck everyone x

DrMum83 · 02/06/2016 13:09

Sorry your levels are still up mel and you're still having to go to epu. Hope the scan goes ok then at least you know the bhcg should drop by itself over the next week.

How's your period been Allium? I'm still having spotting/very light loss now on day 4 of this. Thoroughly fed up. I'm usually nearly finished by now. I'm so impatient to get to ovulation.

Welcome bear, sorry you're here. My medical management was nearly 5 weeks ago now. Found out around 10/11 weeks that baby had stopped progressing around 8. I bled for about a week but my opks were also all over the place. I'm desperate to start trying again soon.
It's a truly horrible place to be when a friend is also pregnant. I'm in same situation. But it will happen for you, Flowers

thatsnotmybear · 02/06/2016 15:45

Thank you both. It is comforting to know I'm not alone, although I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I think you are right Allium that other people don't realise quite how emotionally painful it is. It sounds like you're doing some positive stuff to help with healing. I'm considering acupuncture, has anyone else tried it? x

Allium40 · 02/06/2016 17:21

DrMum, I'm on day 3-4. Yesterday was super heavy and today medium. I think it's a good sign as means the lining was thick, hope it will be this month too or maybe it was just leftover from pg.

I'm normally a 26 day cycle so don't know whether to start dtd on day 6 or 8 but SMEP says you need to do it once before trying to freshen up the sperm!

I'm feeling more positive this afternoon because I feel if I stay negative that won't help matters. I'm trying to imagine that it WILL happen rather than it might not.

Did you say you had a shorter cycle too?

Allium40 · 02/06/2016 17:25

Bear, I did try acu last year but tbh my heart wasn't in ttc as my OH had doubts (although he was instigating dtd more than me). He never told me he was fully on board and I like to feel supported in such a huge decision so I was holding back.

I think I had an early MC about a year ago as felt the hcg but I never tested so don't know for sure.

We were totally mistiming dtd so I don't know if acu worked but I think it's good for rebalancing hormones.

jinglebellmel · 02/06/2016 18:22

Hi Bear, sorry for your loss. I can sympathise with the friend thing, one of mine recently announced her pregnancy and is about 10 days behind where I should be. Just one of those things which is going to happen I guess but it is shit.

Scan tomorrow so will hopefully have some answers then. I'm going to be so gutted if I have to go down the surgical route now, feels like these 3 weeks I've desperately been waiting to ov will have been wasted and I'll be starting from scratch again.

Hopefully not long until ov for you now Allium and Drmum!

thatsnotmybear · 02/06/2016 18:58

Thanks mel, you too. I hope your scan gives you some answers, all this waiting for our bodies to get back on track just adds insult to injury doesn't it?

Allium I was thinking to have the acu to rebalance hormones. I feel like I've got the worst PMT, fine one minute and in a rage the next, but without the comfort of knowing that AF is on it's way!

Allium40 · 02/06/2016 20:13

Good luck Mel. Hope it's good news and there are some nice follicles there ripening ready for ov!

rider1975 · 02/06/2016 20:52

Hi ladies - sorry I've been so quiet. I realised that the positive ovulation test had just reacted to the remaining HCG in my system. I spoke to the EPU on Tuesday (3 weeks after the pills for medical management) and they said to test again next Tuesday. They are more concerned that I've had some increase in the brown discharge/bleeding than the positive pg test. I caved in and did the super expensive clear blue digital which shows 1-2 weeks. According to their website that means that my HCG levels are below 100. The EPU will see me for a scan next week if the brown stuff is still there and I'm still testing positive. Roll on Tuesday...
Allium - I did get pg on our first try but I'm doubtful for the future altho I'm low tonight
My hormones have deffo been having a party and I'm just the allocated driver Sad

Allium40 · 02/06/2016 21:17

Hi Rider, hope it gets sorted soon. I had brown discharge up until 18 days post MC. How long has yours been?

Great that you got pg first time. You must be really fertile so I'm sure you'll be back on track soon. Gives me hope! Smile

Thanks Allium, fingers crossed for those follicles!

Hi Rider, sorry you're feeling low. It's so horrible not knowing what is going on with your body, not long until Tuesday now and hopefully you'll get some answers. Have you stopped bleeding in between, could it be the start of AF? Funny that different hospitals have such different procedures. Makes me feel a little better that yours aren't too concerned by a positive test at 3 weeks, hopefully mine are just being over cautious about mine.

rider1975 · 02/06/2016 22:07

Hey ladies Smile
It's 23 days now and I guess (hold your breath for way too much info) I'm worried that it's gone from normal vaginal discharge but discoloured to brown back to a more runny dark brown thicker liquid - like thick dark brown blood. Surely things should be slowing down gradually ..
I don't know about being fertile - here's hoping. I'm doing all the potions now - maca root, vitex, spirulina, co-enzyme q10... Gotta say my energy levels are way up!
How are you both or should I just read the thread Blush? Let me ask you and do that too!
Xxx

jinglebellmel · 02/06/2016 22:11

Have you told the epu Rider? Probably just normal crazy post miscarriage-ness but if it gets smelly or you have any pain I'd get back to them and insist they look into it. I had no idea that miscarriages took so long!

OP posts:
rider1975 · 02/06/2016 22:15

Yes they seem unconcerned. They want another pg test on Tuesday and then they'll bring me in for a scan if this is positive

rider1975 · 02/06/2016 22:15

I've just read all your updates - you seem to be almost there with your recovery - that's fantastic

Allium40 · 03/06/2016 07:31

Rider, could it be AF or have you not had enough 'clear' days?

jinglebellmel · 03/06/2016 08:10

Rider, I suppose if you're still spotting it could be clearing anything that's left, hopefully that means you'll get a negative on Tuesday, fingers crossed for you.

rider1975 · 03/06/2016 12:18

Hi ladies
The EPU called this morning and they've booked me in for a scan on Monday at 12 noon. I'm really glad to be seen ! I had more "clear" days immediately after the medical management but the nurse also said it could be my period ... but if I'm still pg how could that be ...?

rider1975 · 03/06/2016 12:19

Thanks for your support and kind words - really helps Flowers
