Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

How frustrating for you Mel! Good that you don't need the surgery, but it's a pity you had to endure such an epic wait, and without food too. Hopefully your body will expel everything it needs to with this AF.

jinglebellmel · 07/06/2016 19:16

Yep hoping it'll all sort it's self. Was strangely proud of my body for managing to have a period bang on the right day after all this - it's the little things that make me happy these days! Going to be stuffing my face tonight!

Yes I suppose we need to trust our bodies to figure it out! I'm still waiting for AF. It's been 3 weeks since I had the surgery and I'm still getting the faintest of positives on HPT's which is annoying. Just a waiting game I guess. I hope you've bought yourself some nice treats!

jinglebellmel · 07/06/2016 20:46

How long is your cycle usually Bear? I was still getting faint positives the day my period started, and from the scans it looks like I also ovulated with positive tests. so I don't think a faint positive neccesarily stops your cycle starting to get back to normal.

Out of interest have you been told to go back for investigation because of the positive tests? Not suggesting you need it, just interested as hospitals all seem to take such different approaches.

It's 27 days. Oddly no-one even mentioned doing tests afterward, just that I should expect AF in 3-6 weeks. I spoke to the doctor after the procedure and she was very confident that she'd removed everything...

thatsnotmybear · 07/06/2016 22:35

Sorry I meant to add that it is interesting about the different approaches. I expect they think that AF arriving is a better indicator of a successful procedure than doing HPT's?

jinglebellmel · 08/06/2016 08:14

Oh sorry I forgot you had the surgical procedure Bear, I suppose they can be more certain in that case that everything was removed. Even consultants in the same hospital seem to take such different approaches, I wish they'd all agree at least as it would inspire a bit more confidence in me! The consultant I saw in theatre didn't seem to think I needed to do any further tests to check, but I'm planning to after Af has finished.

Forgot to say -could be you get your period next week then, and any remaining clots come out then, and hopefully you'll get a negative after that. As long as it's going down though I think it's fine, even if it is a slow process.

We're going away this weekend for a short holiday, so no doubt AF will decide to arrive!

jinglebellmel · 11/06/2016 09:57

Hi ladies, those of you who have had your first post miscarriage period - how was it? I started on Monday when Af would have been due, slightly heavier than usual but nothing extreme and it lasted the usual 3 days. No bleeding for 2 days and then some spotting again today. Wondering if this sounds normal with messed up hormones? Stupid question really as I guess there is normal, I'm just a bit paranoid due to this retained clot.

Hi Mel, the second day was really heavy. All in all in lasted around 5 days but did stop for a day then I had a bit of spotting.

Still no positive opk and I'm on day 12!

jinglebellmel · 11/06/2016 14:42

Thanks Allium. I've no idea what my body is up to, so sick of it!

When do you normally ov? Fingers crossed its on its way for you.

OP posts:
Allium40 · 11/06/2016 16:47

It sounds like spotting is normal after MC.

I normally ov on day 10 but maybe (I'm hoping), my cycle is longer. I got a very faint line yesterday and this morning so hoping it will get darker.

Last month I got the surge twice but didn't ov :-(

thatsnotmybear · 11/06/2016 17:58

Hi ladies, I started spotting this morning, day 26 after surgical management and I normally have a 27 day cycle. I'm assuming/hoping it's AF. Have been so fearful that it would take many more weeks of waiting that I'm just relieved something is happening, even if it isn't a proper bleed yet. From extensive googling I think it's normal for the first AF after miscarriage to be a bit odd and unlike your usual AF, and maybe this could affect when we OV as well? x

Allium40 · 11/06/2016 18:21

I think you're right Bear.

I reckon AF will get heavier, it did for me. And I guess if hormones are disrupted perhaps the lining won't be as thick. Let's hope everything normalises this month!

jinglebellmel · 11/06/2016 20:19

It's just so stressful constantly wondering if things are normal, I need to stop googling! I've certainly not passed the clot, unless it's broken down and just come out as blood. I'm temping this month in the hope of getting some idea of where I am.

Hope it's Af bear, it's just nice to know your body is doing something as it should, kind of restores your faith in it.

Allium, I guess it makes sense things would be a little delayed, are you temping or anything else to see if you've ovd?

OP posts:
Allium40 · 11/06/2016 21:12

Yes I'm temping but nothing significant so far. I only realised 2 days ago I had to wait for the thermometer to beep so all the results are probably skewed anyway!

I was just looking into reflexology and found these easy techniques on YouTube. I am a sucker for a foot massage but they are really chilling me out:

jinglebellmel · 12/06/2016 14:33

Haha, I'm not doing great with it either. I keep forgetting and having to do it after I've been up and chasing my little boy round for 5 mins, hoping I might get some sort of overall pattern at least.

OP posts:
thatsnotmybear · 14/06/2016 12:09

Well AF got heavier for a day then stopped again, but I'm wondering if it's because I had the surgical management and everything was scraped away (possibly more than would have come away if the miscarriage had happened naturally?) I'm going to start doing OPK's in a week or so and see what happens. How is everyone else getting on?

Allium40 · 14/06/2016 12:24

Hi bear,

Yes that might make sense, my periods used to be pretty light anyway.

I finally got a positive opk yesterday (cd14) and another today. Quite painful ovulation though. I had ov pain before the MC but think it's worse this time. I hope I'm not getting another surge which doesn't lead to anything. Stay positive I guess.

Did you hear the sad news about Tana Ramsey mc'ing at 5 months :-(

thatsnotmybear · 14/06/2016 12:46

Hi Allium, that's good news about the positive OPK's, hopefully you'll definitely OV this cycle. I don't tend to get any physical signs when I ovulate so have to trust the OPK's. Can you see a definite pattern with temping? Maybe I should try that.

I hadn't heard the news about Tana Ramsay, that's awful :-(

Allium40 · 14/06/2016 13:25

My temp was 36.34 yesterday and 36.66 today but it has been all over the shop so who knows. Hope I see a consistent rise! I'll know if I've ov'd because I can feel the progesterone - my boobs get noticeably bigger. I have had some ewcm so really hoping I at least ov this month!

Now I know why I didn't conceive last year - ov is so bloody painful that I would wait for the pain to go and obvs missed the window.

Not long for you guys either! Are you opk'ing yet?

Allium40 · 14/06/2016 13:28

Sorry, you told me already got you were opk'ing next week.

I would recommend temping but you have to do it before you even sit up in the morning.

Sometimes I do it in the middle of the night thinking it's morning! So it doesn't help you sleep well.

thatsnotmybear · 14/06/2016 20:31

Yes the swimmers need to be laying in wait for the egg to be released!

I bought a Clearblue fertility monitor about 5 years ago before I had my DS so am going to use that again.

Just as we were starting to feel positive about trying again, DH has been told today that he's being let go from his work Shock

Allium40 · 14/06/2016 21:44

Oh no, that's shit. But these things have a way of working out. I lost my job when I had DD2 and I wouldn't change it now. Something better always comes along.

But hard at the time :-(
