Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

That's good Rider. I read somewhere (extensive googling) that your body can realise the Hgc isn't rising and drop progesterone causing your period. I suppose that must be a similar process to the actual miscarriage. Any remaining tissue that is causing hcg then gets flushed out with the bleed. That's probably not a very nice way of putting it sorry, but you know what I mean. At least you don't have quite so long to wait now before you find out anyway x

Well that couldn't have gone much worse. I have a 2cm clot left and have developed a cyst on my ovary since the mc. Booked in for surgery Monday and will have to stay overnight. Feeling so low right now :(

Oh Mel, sorry it wasn't straight-forward. In a few days you will be on the road to recovery and back on track. As if MC isn't hard enough, then we have to go through all of this. Everything will work out, it's just hard waiting. Find a series or something to watch over the weekend to take your mind off of it x

jinglebellmel · 03/06/2016 20:42

Can I ask you ladies your opinion? The blood clot left is only 2cm and from research online (possibly not reliable I know) this is too small to justify surgery, but they are adamant it's for the best. We've been ttc this month I I have a cyst which has appeared since the mc, which would suggest I've ovd. Would you go ahead or try and hold off for 2 weeks until typos knew if you'd conceived? I don't think I'm thinking clearly at the moment and maybe just clutching at straws. I fell pregnant 1st month of trying both times but if I'm not then I'll just have acted another 2 weeks where I could have been healing and moving on.

Sorry for the rant, but would love some opinions on what you'd do?

I'll have a proper read and think tomorrow but did you tell them you were ttc? Would they have seen the fertilised egg - how many dpo are you?

jinglebellmel · 03/06/2016 22:04

Thanks Allium. Well I wasn't sure if I had ovd, but then googling the cyst it seems you get these after you ov if your body thinks there is a preg to support (so residual hcg would cause this). So seems there is a good chance I have, but no idea when. I didn't ask anything useful tbh, I was by myself and just fell apart a bit.

I'm sorry it wasn't better news Mel. Will you have the opportunity to discuss your options before making a decision? I expect they are advising the surgery to draw a line under this for you, so that you can start to try again with a clean slate, as it were.

Allium40 · 04/06/2016 14:30

Just been thinking it through. If you had conceived this cycle, how would the clot clear? Will they also be removing the cyst or is it harmless? Have a good chat with them on Monday. Hope you're feeling slightly better x

jinglebellmel · 04/06/2016 18:00

Thanks Bear, I hope so but they seem very vague and not that knowlegable yesterday.

Thanks Allium, I've read that it could just be absorbed. But that was just on google so I've no reliable info really. I'm feeling a bit crampy today and Af would be due tomorrow if I count the miscarriage as cd1 so I'm really hoping it will be and then it will remove the possibility of pregnancy at least. Don't think they plan to do anything with the cyst, the radiogtapher (who seemed much more knowlegable than the dr) said it's quite likely to disappear once pregnancy hormones are gone, I need to have a rescan in a few months to check.

I hope everyone else is getting on okay.

Allium40 · 04/06/2016 18:05

Hope AF arrives in time and clears the clot. I think they can only see pg from 5-6 weeks so not sure how they would tell but I'm sure they will know what to do.

Got back from hols today with a bang. But at least it's warm today and gonna be sunny tomorrow.

I am on day 5 and getting very impatient for ovulation! Probably day 10 I reckon. Need to switch off and chill a bit.

Still quite tearful from the MC. Anyone else?

jinglebellmel · 04/06/2016 18:39

Thanks Allium, and all of you - it's really helped to be able to rant to others who are in the thick of it and understand my concerns, however crazy they seem to everyone else!

Not too long till ov now then Allium, will keep my fingers crossed for you. I'm very tearful at the moment, I guess as well as the upset there is a major come down with the hormones.

How did you get on Mel?

jinglebellmel · 06/06/2016 18:24

Hi Allium, still waiting :( I've been here since 10.30 and not sure they'll fit me in tonight now. So annoyed! Hope you're alright.

How did you get on Rider?

OP posts:
Allium40 · 06/06/2016 20:59

Sorry Rider, forgot yours was today too. Hope it's going ok.

How frustrating Mel! Did you get to speak to anyone? Will they keep you in anyway? x

jinglebellmel · 06/06/2016 22:00

They are keeping me in incase a slot becomes available in the night. Haven't really had a chance to talk to anyone, but started bleeding today (Af would be due today if miscarriage is cd1) so that at least removes the possible pregnancy issue for me.

OP posts:
thatsnotmybear · 07/06/2016 09:48

How is everyone doing today? Thinking of you Mel.

jinglebellmel · 07/06/2016 11:01

Thanks Bear I'm still waiting to go to theatre, very tempted to just discharge myself now, but not sure if I'll regret it. How are you?

OP posts:
Allium40 · 07/06/2016 11:17

Mel, if you're bleeding, won't that clear the clot?

jinglebellmel · 07/06/2016 11:25

I hoped so. Mentioned it to them and they seemed to think it could be a sign of infection and even more reason for the d&c. It was the exact day my period would be due though, so I presume it's just that. Am hoping I just pass an obvious clot but just normal blood do far.

Am so unbelievably fed up with them. I appreciate they have emergencies but waiting over 24 hours for a 10 minute procedure is a joke.

My OH had 4 ops in a year and he was always last on the waiting list because he was the youngest and fittest. Once he became dehydrated (nil by mouth and drip wasn't working) and had a minor fit and once he was sent home after waiting all day.

Hope you have better luck! x

rider1975 · 07/06/2016 12:19

Hi ladies
Sorry for being so quiet - I have a wrist strain and it's hard to type!! God's way of telling me to stop googling shit every 2 mins.
Sorry Mel for what you're going through. I would deffo have gone for the surgery option rather than wait.
I cancelled my appointment on Monday as my symptoms really calmed at the weekend and I had the faintest ever pg test on Monday morning. But - guess what - got what I believe is my period last night. Can't understand it...but looks like a period n feels like a period so I'm going with that. Left a vm at EPU so I'll see if they want to see me.
Take care and good recovery Mel xx

jinglebellmel · 07/06/2016 13:00

That's good new Rider :)

Oh god that's awful Allium! Can see how it happens though, I've not had anything to eat or drink in 40 hours, starting to feel ill now and I was fine when I came in.

I think I'm having AF too, considering discharging myself this evening and hoping it gets rid of the clot. Do you think I'd see it come down whole or would it just break down into normal blood?

OP posts:
rider1975 · 07/06/2016 13:53

Hey Mel
That's waaay too long without any food. Can you rouse any remaining energy to see what is going on there. I'd still stay for the surgery if I were you but you must go with how you feel xx poor you

jinglebellmel · 07/06/2016 14:22

Oh my god, they just sent for me to go to theatre. WS talking it through with the consultant who's on today and she agreed with what I've been saying all along that it's a tiny clot and probably doesn't need removing. As I'm now bleeding she thinks it should come out on its own, and even if it didn't it would be very unlikely to cause infection or further problems. Really hoping she's right, but I've gone with her recommendation as it seems pretty inline with what my gut was telling me. I'm being discharged now, but so annoyed I had to go through this stress ontop of a miscarriage!

OP posts:
Allium40 · 07/06/2016 14:36

The problem with these things is that you don't get to speak to the Consultant until you are in theatre and then sometimes they advise not to go ahead. My OH had the same thing but I reckon best to avoid ops if possible and definitely follow their advice.

Sorry you had to go through a horrible few days for nothing but hopefully you're on back on track now with a new cycle. Same for you Rider.
