Positive opk after a miscarriage

Hi, hoping someone a bit more knowledgable than me can help me figure this out! I had a medically managed miscarriage 9 days ago and have had strong positives on opks for the last 2 days. I know that they pick up hcg so presumed that this was just picking up left over hormones from the pregnancy. Today I had a very faint positive on a pregnancy test so looks as though my hormone levels are nearly back to normal, but the opk is still coming up with a strong positive. The pregnancy test is 10 miu and the opk 20 - so my question is this still just left over hormones when the pregnancy tests are getting lighter and the opks aren't?

I would say that is a negative but on it's way to/from being positive.

I'll post a pic of my many opks shortly!

DrMum83 · 26/05/2016 21:17

Thanks. It does look a bit darker in real life. I might just give up with the opks until next AF or, hopefully, bfp! I'm getting tempted into temping now - something I've never been arsed with!
Look forward to your pics Allium

Here they are, here are my babies.

I started on day 10 but threw the first few away.

I missed out day 17 for some reason.

I would say surge was day 14/15 and 21. Counting day 1 as first day of MC.

I'm going to treat myself to a Sharpie next month. If we can't have control over our fertility then at least we can try to control the testing Grin

What's a Sharpie?! What have I missed?
Yes- agree with your surges, lovely progressions!

DrMum83 · 26/05/2016 21:33

Oh you mean the pen! Durrghh. Thought it was code for some kind of ovulation monitor...! Lol

Allium40 · 26/05/2016 21:38
Grin

Thanks, I'm very proud of them!

jinglebellmel · 27/05/2016 08:07

Beautiful Allium! Def looks like tow surges, and history of twins in the family??
I will attach mine but I'm not sure much can be deduced from them. The lines look slightly lighter on photos that's in real life. Today (cd17) pregnancy test still has a very faint line, almost like an evap line. It's 10iu - do you think I can count this a as a negative or not?

Should be any history sorry.

Drmum, I think I'll be temping next month, bit concerned I'm not going to ov this month and would be nice to know for certain. I think it takes some of the guess work out and seemed to work when I did it before having my son.

It's weird, Mel, how you have a neg on day 13 but then a feint/faint line again on day 15. Are you testing at the same time each day? Is it FMU?

Have you had any other ov symptoms?

Not really twins in our family. I think my Great-Grandmother had twin siblings but they had about 10 kids in those days. My sister had a twin pregnancy a few years back but there were complications and she lost them :-(

Do you count the MC as CD1?

jinglebellmel · 27/05/2016 09:45

Yeah fmu, tis strange. I guess that's the nature of hormones after a miscarriage but I love order and am desperately searching for a logical pattern! I'd just feel so much better if I knew what was going on and felt I had some control, I suppose I just need to be patient.

I've had pains, similar to those I normally get before I ov but much more intense, around day 8 and 14. Hard to tell if it was just to do with the miscarriage though. I'm using the day of medical miscarriage as day 1 as I only had spotting before that.

I've got another 4 days to get a definite negative on the pregnancy test otherwise I have to go back to the epu :(

Sorry about your sisters twins, that must have been awful for her. Hoping for a nice strong singleton for you instead then.

OP posts:
Allium40 · 27/05/2016 10:09

That would be awesome!

I have had all sorts of aches and pains since MC. I don't know what is uterine cramps and what is ov - or anything else it could be! I have no idea where I am in cycle. So frustrating isn't it? I don't feel like I know my body any more.

Do the tests say use FMU? Maybe try do an extra one today and see what it says?

Do you have any pg symptoms? x

jinglebellmel · 27/05/2016 10:18

No preg symptoms left. I'm thinking I may get another less sensitive preg test today and check with that, as I think 10 iu is more sensitive than the average. I'm boring myself now, so obsessed with pos and trying to spot ov I think I'm probably going mad!

It would be lovely if we all had some good news soon, keep me updated with how you both get on.

DrMum83 · 27/05/2016 19:44

mel your opks and hpts look exactly like mine did! I think any day now you'll get a complete negative hpt.

It really is frustrating. My opks are neg now- it's 4 weeks today since I took the miscarriage medication. Just feel like my womb is asleep, no ovulation, hardly any cm and no signs of AF. Completely pissed off!

Sorry about your sister's twins too allium. Must have been devastating

Allium40 · 27/05/2016 19:57

I'm struggling tonight too. Think I have spotting and am probably premenstrual. I'm going on holiday in a few hours and I just feel like crawling under a rock :-(

DrMum83 · 27/05/2016 20:02

Oh no, sorry. That's shit. I'm not even gonna say 'at least you can drink etc' cos you'd much rather be pregnant. Sorry if that's blunt but you've been through a lot and I get it. I guess knowing your cycle is now resetting is a positive though? Should make tracking ovulation easier?
I hope you enjoy your hol though.
Life is shite.

Allium40 · 27/05/2016 20:06

Yes I'll be ok when I get there I reckon/hope! And I normally feel ok once AF arrives (although never been in this situation before). Onwards and upwards hey? If I do get AF in next few days that means my cycle is pretty much the same length as before. However, I am gonna be bleeding all over the beach as don't think I'll want to wear tampons yet. Nice! Good luck you two, hope you have a more successful month! x

jinglebellmel · 28/05/2016 14:58

Thanks Drmum, I hope so, I really don't want to have to go back to epu for more prodding. Do you think you might have ovd in that time at all, you have had some positive opks haven't you? It is so frustrating I agree, feels like everything is on hold.

Sorry Allium, that's shit. I hope you can still enjoy your holiday and it means that in a couple of weeks you'll hopefully be ovulating and ready to go. I know that probably doesn't help now.

Can I ask whT sensitivity of preg test did you use to get your negatives? I'm using 10 iu cheapies at the mo, and not sure if I should just get a standard 20 iu which will hopefully come up negative, or if I should be using the more sensitive kind as I suppose I need to know its come down as close to zero as possible. I have to report back to epu on Wednesday to let them know if I've had a negative test and have more investigation if not.

Hello ladies
Can I join this thread as I too am very confused. I had a medical management 18 days ago. Only symptom left is some light brown discharge. I felt today as if ovulation was coming and took following tests : blue shows pg and purple shows ovulation. Not sure if ovulation is in its way. Any thoughts ? Help!

jinglebellmel · 28/05/2016 18:58

Hi rider, you're very welcome, although obviously very sorry that you need to be here at all. We must have had our miscarriages pretty much at the same time, do you mind me asking how many weeks you were?

Have you done any other ovulation tests, have you had a negative one since the miscarriage? If so then it maybe ov, I've seen a few people say they have ovd despite still getting a positive pregnancy test.

OP posts:
Allium40 · 28/05/2016 19:20

Hi Rider!

Welcome to the club that no-one wants to join ;-)

I'm not sure actually, the hcg could be turning the opk +ve or it could be a real surge. I had brown discharge for about 18 days then had a second surge/opk +ve soon after but no post-ov symptoms so who knows. I have been emotionally feeling all over the place so hormones probably are too.

Are you a 1975er like me? x

Allium40 · 28/05/2016 19:22

Mel, did the EPU advise what sensitivity tests you should use? I would try a less sensitive one if I were you. Or perhaps speak to the EPU and see what they say? They might ask you in for a scan which could be useful so they can tell you if you are ovulating and how the womb lining is looking.

rider1975 · 28/05/2016 22:24

Hi Jingle and Allium
This was my first ovulation test since medical management. I was around 8 weeks when the hb stopped. Yes I'm a 1975-er Smile
I'm doing ok - getting back to normal slowly - looking forward to losing the brown discharge and trying again soon - given my age.
I think for now I'll put the test sticks to one side and just go with it.
Xx

jinglebellmel · 29/05/2016 06:23

Allium, no they didn't and I didn't think to ask at the time. Just got a negative on my internet cheapie (supposedly 10iu) and a faint positive on superdrug 20iu Confused feeling so sick of it all now!

I think that's probably a good idea rider, Its very addictive otherwise and the results don't seem to make a lot of sense anyway.
