Ineednewshoes my GP just suggested Folic acid to me but I thought it couldn't hurt to take extra ones plus I read up on natural supplements for progesterone which could help.

You can overdose on vitamins but it's very, very hard & I doubt on the doses you're taking you are.

We absorb vitamins & minerals poorly anyway for example iron is only absorbed 20% when you take a tablet & that increases slightly if you take it with vitamin C.

Aw purple it is hard & you are young so it is good to have time on your side. I was 27 when I had my first & hopefully your time will come soon.

There's about 4 birth announcements due this month & 2 of my friends are on their second babies & it's frustrating to me that I'm not there yet but then I think I can offer my DS so much one to one time at the moment & then feel guilty as I want a second one so bad.

Thank you for your kind words xx

I was also thinking if there are any natural supplements to support pregnancy.
I'm going to TTC again next week and I'm only on Pregnacare.
I took baby aspirin last time but didn't work.
I'm still cramping a bit today after my second MC at 5+4, on my CD5 today. I hope it stops now...

Alb1 · 07/06/2016 20:51

purple I understand how you feel, I turned 27 a few weeks ago and although it sounds illogical I'm just so worried it won't happen for us now that I'm abit older, even tho we're not old at all really.

Around here when pregnant were given vitamins by the midwife to take and it's just folic acid, vitamin c and vitamin d and they advice it to be taken all through pregnancy. Currently I'm just having a berocca a day and folic acid, although berocca isn't recommended in pregnancy so I'm not really sure if it's good to take when ttc really

BertieBotts · 07/06/2016 21:28

There are useful herbal/vitamin supplements for TTC, I can't remember them now as I just went with folic acid in the end but definitely for DHs, mine wanted us all to take vitamins so DS wouldn't think it was strange (!) so I researched it (just googled a few articles and picked the most commonly mentioned ones)

Recommendation is 800 micrograms folic acid, at least it is here in Germany. I'm sure it was 400 when I had DS so either it's different in Germany or they have changed it.

Miami81 · 07/06/2016 22:13

I have been taking a b vitamin complex since the mc and also some magnesium. Don't know if it helps or not but I don't seem to have been as drained physically after the mc as I know some people have mentioned.
I think I am getting ovulation pains at the moment, DH is away, so annoyed. We dtd on Sunday but just don't feel like this cycle will be ours!!!

JustineLittle · 07/06/2016 22:33

Fingers crossed Miami, hope Sunday was just fine for you this month!

I've also started reading about progesterone cream but I'm still unsure.

AmyB1986 · 07/06/2016 22:48

Hi all hope you're all ok...

Purple I understand how you feel, I turned 30 in April and keep thinking time isn't on our side now I've gone into my 30's. I know plenty of people who have conceived in their 40's though, after battles with fertility treatments my neighbour conceived naturally unexpectedly after giving up! Her daughter is 5 now.

On the subject of vitamins, I was taking folic acid before my mc but started taking seven seas preconception vitamins after. They contain the guideline amounts of vitamins. I'm not sure if taking too much of a certain vitamin can affect anything though, I'm sure our bodies expel what isn't needed. I also take 60ml of an aloe juice drink to help with absorption. It has cranberry in it and since I'm prone to uti's and its specially designed for the renal and digestive systems I thought it wouldn't hurt to try it. I don't really feel any differently for taking the vitamins but the aloe drink has reduced my bloating.

I'm cd15 now and I think I've ov'd or I'm about to. I've not had any ov pains this month though. I had a slight pressure and twinge in my left last night but that's it. Tmi but I've got so much ewcm I'm having to wear a pad as its wetting my underwear! I had a temp rise today but not mega, will see what that does over the next couple of days. We've dtd every day for the last 4 days and will continue to as my sex drive is through the roof still, has been since mid af!

JustineLittle · 07/06/2016 23:36

Well done Amy! I'm also looking forward to TTC soon, can't wait for this period to finish.
I've doubled folic acid, also bought walnuts and soya milk for more vit B and I'm taking vit D.
If it doesn't help, it doesn't help.
One more MC and I hope to be tested.

doleritedinosaur · 07/06/2016 23:42

Justine will your GP not do some basic blood tests now to rule some common causes? Such as thyroid & clotting.

Sorry if you have posted that already have.

JustineLittle · 08/06/2016 08:09

I only tried to see my GP when I found out I was pg and they refused to see me twice. I thought it's the first thing you do, but they told me to just wait 4 weeks for my first midwife appointment on both occasions.
Also, last time I wanted to see my GP and talk about a potential early scan but, the same, the nurse called me back and talk to me about it over the phone when I was already miscarrying.
I think I will try to make an appointment now and insist on some basic tests.
Thank you for your advice! Xx

BertieBotts · 08/06/2016 08:44

It's not true for all vitamins that bodies expel what they don't need. Anything water soluble will because it can come our in urine but anything fat soluble won't be able to exit so easily. For example you should not take too much vitamin A in pregnancy. That said most multivitamins are likely to be fine, just don't take lots of different ones at once unless they all contain different things.

INeedNewShoes · 08/06/2016 09:35

Thanks for everyone's thoughts on vitamins.

Feel free to ignore this next bit... I know all the different advice out there can get a bit much!

One thing I've been reading about is that it's better to take Folate than Folic Acid as our bodies can't metabolise Folic Acid as efficiently and we end up with excess in our bloodstream.

A science-y link: jn.nutrition.org/content/136/1/189.short

And a link that us mere mortals can understand without getting a headache: chriskresser.com/folate-vs-folic-acid/

AmyB1986 · 08/06/2016 09:57

Bertie that's what I was unsure of. I don't know if taking any vitamin is a good idea apart from taking folic acid like the dr recommends or folate as newshoes said. Vitamin a in excess has been linked to birth defects and miscarriage that's also another reason I take the preconception vits as they don't contain vitamin a. They have b12 and b6 in them along with iron, vit d and zinc.

The weather is lovely here again I can't stand the heat though.

AmyB remember pharmacists can advise on minor medical issues, they'd probably be able to tell you which vitamins are safe to take together :)

JustineLittle · 08/06/2016 22:03

Mrsunsure - the bad will always go past you and good time will come sooner or later! Sometimes we think there bad news are followed by more bad news and they are never-ending but there will be brighter days soon.
Keep strong and try to see something positive in your life and not think too much about what's negative.
Hugs xx

HopefulKate1980 · 08/06/2016 22:49

Hi all. Sorry I've been missing for a few days. Welcome to all the new people!!! You sound v lovely so pleased you are with us!

Mrs I feel your pain. Good to hear from you. Is there anything I can do to help? Sending you lots of love.

Me and DH started trying again tonight!! Not sure I'm ovulating yet as cm still sticky and creamy but it was so nice to be close to him. We are going to try and keep it up for 7-10 days. See how we do. It would be lucky either way so soon after the MC. Let's see.

purple how are you lady??

Xx

HopefulKate1980 · 08/06/2016 22:52

And how is everyone else? Sorry didn't mean to only ask purple - it's just because we went through this recent MC at same time. I care about you all!! Xx

JustineLittle · 08/06/2016 23:20

Fingers crossed Kate1980, it's always exciting when the right time and new hope come!
I'm looking forward to trying next week.
Still spotting after my 5+4 MC, on CD6 today.

purpleviolet1 · 08/06/2016 23:50

Hey hopeful was wondering where you had gone Smile we are back to TTC, dtd over the weekend but we've got a busy month so not sure we'll manage again. I've had pains which could be ovulation related, not really sure. Do you count the last day of bleeding from miscarriage as cd1 ?

Mrs nice to hear from you xx

Hope everyone else is ok too

Purple - I counted my cd1 after my first miscarriage from the day I passed the sac and it was sort of accurate. Now I count it from the start of my bleeding as it is just like extended period.
My first MC took loooong weeks to recover and this on only 6 days so it's all different. How long did you bleed for? How far were you?

Miami81 · 09/06/2016 08:19

Mrs I really wish we could all chum round to yours and give you a big hug and a large extended shoulder to cry on. But stay with us and we will try to support you through this. I can't even imagine getting to due date, it makes me feel sick just thinking about it. Of course you have had a hard time recently with that coming up.
Thinking of you. Xx

HopefulKate1980 · 09/06/2016 08:25

Oh Mrs I can hear the frustration in your voice/words. Really hope your consultant pulls his finger out soon and you get some help on how to move forward. Sending you love and hope. The due date is horrid reminder - passed my first in April and the second due date is July so I'm dreading that. But hope will return I promise. Xxx

Hi purple!! I'm not sure about when I'll ovulate after the MC. Started bleeding last Tuesday, got negative on Monday so I'm hoping I will ovulate this weekend? Because my levels were so low I think my body has recovered pretty quickly so I'm hoping my cycles won't be too screwed up. My nurse said it varies massively but I believe we know our bodies and I reckon mine is gearing up.

Are you tracking your cm justine and purple??

Xx
