TTC following an ectopic pregnancy

Hi, My DH and I have been TTC for the last 8 months and finally found out I was pregnant before christmas. Since then I have been in hospital and have been treated for an ectopic pregnancy. I was given a hefty dose of Methotrexate which has made me feel rotten and should induce a miscarriage soon. We can't start TTC for 3 months now which is really hard to take as it took us a while the first time - but everything will have to be on hold until the summer now. Has anyone experienced this?

Hi all
Cedar - I understand about taking a break - We'll be thinking about you and good luck with the rest.

I'm afraid I'm a bit gloomy tonight, another friend is pregnant and guess what - bizarre pains in the tubeless side all day. Psycosomatic (sp?) or what?

99redballoons · 08/09/2007 10:48

Hi Lissie, thx for asking, we're ok this end. No nearer on deciding whether to ttc again or not atm. We're just enjoying things as they are for a bit. We've just been away for the week and it's been so much fun, though exhausting! Ds starts school in 2 weeks (reception) so I'm just concentrating on that atm.

How are you? Any nearer on decisions your end?

lissielou · 08/09/2007 12:44

HarrietTheSpy · 10/09/2007 19:28

Ladies - help urgently. Unfortunately I've named changed and can't change back, will need to contact MN people.

There is a possibility I'm pregnant - but only a very couple of weeks. Had pain today on my remaining tube side - the left side. And a tiny bit of spotting.

Please, does anyone know how early you can see something on a transvaginal scan???

HarrietTheSpy · 10/09/2007 19:33

sorry that's me - Genidef.

HarrietTheSpy · 10/09/2007 20:55

bump

jess1996 · 12/09/2007 08:42

Hello, I'm back from my holiday and feeling loads better. I got my 1st af 30 days after the op and everything seemed normal so I've decided to get started with the ttc again (currently CD11). I'm not sure how much my fertility has been affected though. My ep was in my left tube, but although I didn't lose the tube I don't know how damaged it is. Also I was told that I've got adhesions on the right tube. I've no idea whether that will stop that tube from functioning. So I'm actually looking forward to my follow up appt next month so that I can find out a bit more what's going on.

cedar - sorry to hear about your bfn. Enjoy your break.

lissie - hope the house move is going ok and isn't too stressful.

hts/genidef - hope you're ok. I thought you should see something by 5 weeks, but I think it also depends on the hcg levels.

lissielou · 12/09/2007 21:35

hi all, im back. Gendief, depending on the sonographers abilities you can usually make out a sac from about 5w. however, if you think you are pregnant you should see your doc and explain that you have a history of ep and want a blood test done ASAP. im sure it will be fine, but best to make sure.

well, we are in new house, i love my new course and things seem to be good. then my cousin gave birth last night. it just doesnt seem fair! i want another baby, no, actually i want my babies back.

HarrietTheSpy · 13/09/2007 21:47

Hi guys. Sorry, I was in a state the other night. They called me in for an internal scan - I haven't had bloods done yet. It's sooo early it's embarrassing...and get this I haven't had a postiive test yet, it's that early. I did tell the doctor this when I rang, but she said come in anyway. I'm glad - last time it was game over at 5.5 weeks and I had to have my tube removed! It was already too late to save it...so I decided I had to risk looking like an idiot and be sure. The thing is of course they can't see anything, so it looks like it's bloods next week. We went back and forth but I decided I was prepared to give it more time!! I really don't know what to do, but it looks like I'm leaving it for a bit. Ugh

lissielou · 14/09/2007 21:42

any news?

HarrietTheSpy · 15/09/2007 10:57

Had some more spotting today. I'm just now wondering if it's my period!!! And the PCOS is kicking in, becase that's what happened before, spotting several days beforehand. No more pain. thanks for your mess. Genidef

lissielou · 15/09/2007 11:56

will will cross everything for you x

HarrietTheSpy · 16/09/2007 17:34

it's Auntie Flo!! A bit early, but not THAT much. I feel like such a TIT. I thought I was due 21st.

HarrietTheSpy · 17/09/2007 23:29

I'm never going to be able to ring this doctor again - well, okay that's an exaggeration but I'm feeling that stupid. All I can say is the pain felt the same. Has anyone else panicked before and done seomthing similar - please make me feel better.

ColdPenguin · 18/09/2007 14:30

Just wanted to say you are not alone. I suspect most people that have had EP's have done this.

I find that wind or IBS symptoms cause quite similar pain to an ectopic.

My first ectopic never ever gave me a positive on a pregnancy test (even after 6 test at home & 2 in hospital). As a result, for a long time after I thought that any little twinges were another ectopic even if tests were negative.

IME experience, the best thing to do at the VERY early stages of worrying is ask for a quantitive HCG blood test. This will confirm if you a pregnant and allow you to start the 48hr bloods if you are worried about an ectopic.

HarrietTheSpy · 18/09/2007 21:22

ColdPenguin
Thanks for your message. You're right about the blood test - the only reason the doctor's sec didn't book one for me was that it was going to take hours to wait in hospital...and I think she thought I was further along than I was - although I did say.

lissielou · 20/09/2007 22:52

just checking in, harriet, so glad your fears were unfounded but sorry about af.

HarrietTheSpy · 20/09/2007 23:30

thanks lissie. i still have'nt changed my name back yet - need help from tech apparently and can't be a*. getting used to the name too. RE aunti f will try agains next month, so chin is up at the moment.

It wasn't great though -brought back loads of memories of when i first found out it wasn't working out last time, will spare you the details. ohh yikes. Glad it's over from that point of view, and resolved in a simple way.

lissielou · 20/09/2007 23:37

i know. every pg test now holds a sort of dark power over us. we cant not test yet a bfp is almost dreaded. any news on the move up here?

HarrietTheSpy · 21/09/2007 22:24

No. The house hunting is on hold. We are staying put for now - DH says quite tough to get a job in shrop (once people get settled into a school they tend not to want to go from tehre apparently) and my job is reigning in the working remotely a bit...plus, the rates. we'll wait a few more months and reconsider...

lissielou · 30/09/2007 11:06

hope you do come down here

well, baba would have been due tomorrow and everyone seems to have forgotten feel so blue.

HarrietTheSpy · 02/10/2007 23:55

I know what you mean re the due dates. My grandma is ill at the moment and I was talking about my feelings about not having a newborn with me...as I had expected...my mum goes: "Well, you wouldn't have been able to come home to see your grandmother if you'd had one..." I'm sorry but she would love to be a great grandma the second time around, and I thought it was also generlaly a tacky thing to say.

Ladies i'm struggling. On another thread people are raving about the doctor who failed to diagnose my ectopic - but crucially failed utterly to alert me to possible symptoms even though [this individual] couldn't see anything on the scan and to get to the ER at once etc etc. Two hours later I was at an NHS hospital bleeding etc. I've probably told you this before.

It's all I can do to restrain myself from BLASTING [THIS INDIVIDUAL]!!! But this individual doesn't see that many patients...we refused to pay the bill for the appt...could well guess somehow if word got round and with the google etc...

But it makes me soooo crazy....

lissiethevampireslayer · 08/10/2007 18:32

oh harriet how are you feeling now?

HarrietTheSpy · 08/10/2007 21:40

Love the name.
Typically fraught and stressed as usual. But this is nothing new!

I really need to start meditiating or something. Any suggestions?!
