Looking for like-minded mums to be who are taking things as they come and fancy a friendly chat along the way.

I'm 36 and just started ttc my second. My ds is 28 mo and I still bf him once a day, most days. I understand this may affect my fertility but, although a three-ish year age gap would be nice, I'm a long way from worrying about it at this early stage. It took me a year of trying (and a mc) before ds came along so I already know what it's like to wait for good things!

Technically I'm not charting or anything (wouldn't know how) just counting roughly 10 days into my cycle and dtd as much as reasonable (!) around that time.

It might not be the most dynamic way of ttc but it suits me for now Smile

My two year old had a melt down outside because she was tired...making me wonder, am I mental for TTC when she has only just turned two and is having non stop tantrums??

DeccaMitford · 04/08/2015 16:32

Reebok I know how you feel, but that 2 year old should be at least 9 months older and a bit beyond that by then (that's how I reassure myself anyway) Wink

I've just done a grocery shop and made sure to pick up decaffeinated tea and drinks since this thread reminded me. I know I cut out a lot of things last time I was pregnant - like alcohol, soft cheese etc - but I honestly cannot remember giving up full fat coke. Maybe that slipped through the net, might explain why my son is so hyperactive Grin

lostindubai · 04/08/2015 16:50

I'm reassuring myself in the exact same way Decca! My ds is more stroppy now than ever!

Bought my test today in Sainsbury's. It's surprisingly tricky to be subtle about it actually - they all come in a massive perspex security box. Was hoping to tuck it in amongst the bananas and biscuits but that was not to be! Luckily I didn't bump into anyone I know. This is strictly between me, my dp, my ds (although he has no idea what we're talking about) and you lovely lot Wink

Welcome Apple we are gaining quite the community now it's brilliant Grin

Hey Decca,Tamara,Infrance, ellimum, and everyone else (there so many people now I apologise if I forgot your name) Smile hope you are all ok

Dubai yeah my first time not doing any preventing your so right it felt really strange almost like I was doing something wrong even though at 26 it's deffinately not lol.
I'm so excited for you fx for a BFP. I have no idea how I'm going to keep anything secret as me and my OH are currently living in my parents house. Perspex box! Way to make it obvious may as well have a glowing red light on top lmao

My day didn't go as planned as OH is ill today so we never got a chance to go shopping and get everything. I tried going to shops near here but nowhere sold what I needed Angry so grabbed some folic acid at least until he feels better and we can go into town.

Hope everyone has a good day today. Btw is it safe to eat a friend egg sandwich when TTC?? I'm totally clueless everything is all brand new to me.

Reebok · 04/08/2015 17:33

decca that's a very good way of looking at it. My LO is very hyper!! Hoping she calms down.

pandora fried eggs even while pregnant are fine. It's just you are not allowed runny eggs when pregnant.

darkpandora · 04/08/2015 17:38

Hey reebok thank you for answering me yay so glad I really fancy an egg sandwich and wasn't sure Grin

InFrance2014 · 04/08/2015 19:47

Hello again (sorry for slow reply),
Thanks for nice messages everybody, and sorry to hear about the other miscarriages people have been through. Although it was really unpleasant (and surprisingly painful), I cannot imagine how hard it must be further along than I was (8 weeks, but probably stopped developing at 6 weeks).

Also like Reebok and Decca am hoping it's not a crazy time to be TTC with a 16 month old, plus very unstable employment situation, but I really want a small age gap as I had with my brother...

LOL at pandora, although it was sometime ago now, I remember unprotected sex also feeling "risque"- knowing that a baby might be created also made it was somehow extra loving.

lostindubai · 04/08/2015 20:29

Yes, it definitely felt a bit 'naughty' that's for sure hehe! Then thinking about it afterwards just makes you smile Smile

InFrance my experience of mc (at 9 weeks) was more painful than actual labour, I too was surprised by that.

OP posts:
darkpandora · 04/08/2015 21:15

Infrance you are right it does feel extra loving, got lot more DTD to go this month tho so will get used to it quickly I'm sure lol

I think all of you will be fine and when baby comes along they will slot in with any of the other children you have and it will be like your family was that way forever you will all make it work I know you will Smile

My situation is far from ideal myself which is why it's taken 10 years we still live with my parents as can't afford to move out, But there is a spare room which will become a nursery and we are always looking for something that comes up within budget so hopefully it will soon I feel If we wait until we have everything sorted something else will crop up and it might never happen.

How's everyone's day been?

Tamara160 · 04/08/2015 21:35

Hi everyone!

I hope your OH feels better soon Pandora, folic acid is a great start though. I'm really unsure too about what you can and can't eat. I know Mr Whippy ice creams are out (gutted!) and soft cheese but other than that I'm clueless!

Today I have been into work to try and sort my classroom out. I took one look at it and nearly walked out lol. It's such a mess what with the floors being cleaned, so the furniture is all stacked up and the previous teacher's stuff it everywhere! I spent a good few hours in there but it looks like I've done nothing! A few more days and it might start looking half decent again!

Went to my friends earlier and had a cuppa. Her daughter (my god-daughter) came back, she's 4, and was VERY hyper and verging on the side of being rude at times. Threw loads of tantrums (particularly when i used my 'teacher voice' when she was being rude, weed on me and then played up at bed time. I sat there thinking 'I want one of these?!' Haha Confused
x

SugarLumpFairy · 04/08/2015 21:37

Once you come off the pill your cycles should be fairly regular straight away. Mine were between 9 and 17 weeks long - no af but no bfn either. Seriously frustrating month after month. Once I went to my GP I was quickly diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, and various blood tests showed I wasn't ovulating at all. Ds was conceived after a bit of hormone treatment and the pregnancy kick started my reproductive system - now ttc dc3. So don't lose hope with irregular periods and keep PCOS in mind. Good luck everyone!

DeccaMitford · 04/08/2015 21:39

Oh god Dubai and InFrance, really? I had no idea. So not just emotionally painful, how awful. Flowers

Fingers crossed none of us will be in that situation this time.

Incidentally, are you actually where your nn suggest you are?!

lostindubai · 04/08/2015 21:56

Decca thinking about it, during my mc I didn't have access to the same pain relief as when in labour - probably had something to do with it. Absolutely, we must be optimistic that it won't happen again.

I'm not in Dubai I'm in south east England! I got lost in a gold souk in Dubai once Grin

Hi SugarLump are you joining us? Smile

My day was good thanks Pandora. Getting sorted out for our holiday (the wedding is in Scotland and we leave tomorrow).

Someone else mentioned Mr Whippy ice cream was a no no last time I was expecting. But I never saw any official advice on that. Does anyone know why?

OP posts:
Tamara160 · 04/08/2015 22:40

I think it is something to do with unpasteurised milk or something?? Don't quote me on that though.

Have a good time at the wedding and enjoy your holiday! x

applecatchers36 · 04/08/2015 22:45

Sorry to hear about your losses dubai and infrance these things are not often spoken about & not recognised in real life

Had never heard about Mr Whippy either that's new to me..

My day was pretty average thanks Pandora but not as stressful as yours sounds tamara wondering if am slightly hormonal as snappy with DP but that could be PMT or just a reasonable reaction to his annoying ways Wink

DrGee · 04/08/2015 22:55

Hello all- This thread sounds nice :) I've just started ttc #1 and have had a nose around here for a bit to see what's what - I'm 33 and we're trying to go with a "let nature take it's course" approach. It's quite hard not to get stressed by the amount of science you could get in to if you wanted! And having never really paid much attention to my cycle before it's all a bit intimidating, and very easy to feel the pressure that I should be paying attention to all of these things = temps/fluids/sticks! So I think I'm going to try and take a step back from trying to micromanage every day of my cycle as I can see the stress building already! Although obviously it's exciting too,So, please talk some sense into me and tell me to chill out about it all!! :) xx

DrGee · 04/08/2015 22:57

lostindubai Mr Whippy will probably not be good because it's not fully frozen - this can cause bacteria to form if not probably monitored. Having had a poisoning incident from a Mr Whippy I would imagine it is NOT a good thing to experience while pregnant! Confused

Reebok · 04/08/2015 23:47

RE Mr Whippy...It's something to do with bacteria or something like that. I craved it towards the end of my pregnancy with my daughter...and was a bit naughty and had one on one occasion.

Main things to avoid from what I remember are:
Alcohol, smoking, uncooked eggs or prawns, unpasteurized products so certain soft cheeses, pate, cut down on caffeine...can't remember anything else besides nuts (I was advised against having them as I'm asthmatic).

Welcome drgee...hope you find this group as helpful as I have so far. It's really brought me out of my funk having had my second mc a few weeks back.

Tamara you've already been into school?!!! You're making me feel terrible! I think I will go in towards the end of the hols and sort my room out. Know it will be a tip as I miscarried at the end of term so missed the last week of work. Don't really want to think about going back yet...know people were talking about me as I was off a lot towards the end of the year and probably guessed as my pregnancy history usually results in me disappearing from work for a bit (mc...then pregnancy with hyperemesis...then mc again!)

No dtd for me today. I'm too exhausted! Still unsure if I'm ovulating...had a few cramps, ewcm and some strange shooting pains in my lady bits! This TTC stuff is confusing!!

Tamara160 · 04/08/2015 23:54

Haha applecatchers that made me laugh! I agree though, it could be either one of them making you snappy!

Hi DrGee! Welcome! I'm very much the same as you, never really paid any attention to my cycle at all until the last few months. Temping etc is so tempting but I think if I do that i'll stress myself out. I'll only look into that if nothing happens in the next few months.
I know what you mean about someone telling you to chill out. There's a huge part of me that's squealing with excitement but there's also another part that' quivering with nerves that something will be wrong with me. It's all starting to make me a bit obsessive! Haha. But you lovely ladies are keeping me sane!

Sorry again for the ramble! Smile

Tamara160 · 04/08/2015 23:58

Ahh Reebok don't feel terrible! From the looks of the building there's only been a few of us that have been in. I only went in because I wanted it sorted before my holiday but it was a mistake, I certainly feel less relaxed now that I've seen it!! Shock
I think I may leave it now until towards the end of the holidays, can't do much until the carpet has been shampooed and the previous teachers have been in to clear their stuff.

Hopefully the holidays will have helped the gossip calm down. Fingers crossed you're having ov symptoms!!

InFrance2014 · 05/08/2015 08:04

Hi DrGee!

Yes Decca I am living in France. Got pregnant literally the week I arrived for new job but didn't know until 15 weeks later... I experienced the French system of pregnancy, antenatal classes and giving birth which is rather different to the UK...

Re mc (TMI)- I didn't have large amounts of blood some people talk about but I think its because it wasn't too far on. The pain was very much like early/mid-labour pain, but for me it only was bad like that for about an hour, a couple of days into it. Otherwise it was like bad period cramps. I really believe that there should be more information in general about mc- of course, I came to MN to find out stuff; fingers crossed nobody needs it, but the MC area here is very useful in the "OMG is this normal I have no idea" way. It's amazing when you do start talking to people IRL just how many have experienced it.

Someone was asking earlier about vitamins- I am just on the folic acid right now, I have a massive stock of Pregnacare left but am waiting for the BFP. Smile

I am not even going to POAS this cycle until I am sure I am very late (around Monday/Tuesday next week...). Because in my first pregnancy I missed the early stages, the second time I was very vigilant, and tested three times, the third one because I had started spotting. But then of course, lost it anyway. So now I am going to be ultra non-stressy about it (or try) and not get into early testing, or anything else. I think my ovulation is ok so no need to use tests for that.

lostindubai · 05/08/2015 09:21

Hello and welcome DrGee Smile Thanks for explaining about Mr Whippy that sounds really bad.

Well ladies I've done my test and I've hit the jackpot! BFP!!

My joy has been slightly (but only slightly) marred by the fact I got a migraine warning this morning and I spoke to the Dr and I should avoid taking my Imigran while pregnant. First migraine in ages too. Last minute packing, taking the cats to the cattery, getting the house in order for the new carpets to go in should all be marvellous fun with a migraine! It's just starting to creep in now. Last time I got pregnant my migraines stopped completely so I hoped it would be the same this time. What a strange and wonderful and confusing thing the human body is!

Hope you all have a fab day. Looking forward to you all joining me with the BFPs very soon!

OP posts:
Reebok · 05/08/2015 10:39

Thanks Tamara...hopefully!

Dubai your post put a massive smile on my face!!! Congrats!!! Lovely to see a BFP on the group...given me some hope. Here's to a happy and healthy 9 months. Out of curiosity, how long did you try for and did you have any symptoms or ovulation pain during ovulation?

Tamara160 · 05/08/2015 10:53

Ahhh Dubai!! Congratulations!! What fantastic news! Flowers I hope your migraine goes soon and stays away.
What a fab start to the day!

DeccaMitford · 05/08/2015 12:29

Don't know where my earlier post when so I'll try again...

Congratulations dubai !!

Have some celebratory Cake xx
