Looking for like-minded mums to be who are taking things as they come and fancy a friendly chat along the way.

I'm 36 and just started ttc my second. My ds is 28 mo and I still bf him once a day, most days. I understand this may affect my fertility but, although a three-ish year age gap would be nice, I'm a long way from worrying about it at this early stage. It took me a year of trying (and a mc) before ds came along so I already know what it's like to wait for good things!

Technically I'm not charting or anything (wouldn't know how) just counting roughly 10 days into my cycle and dtd as much as reasonable (!) around that time.

It might not be the most dynamic way of ttc but it suits me for now Smile

Hi, i got a faint bfp yesterday! Took 2 different tests to make sure and again with my first wee today :) just hoping it sticks i have some slight muscle aches in my lower stomach so trying to take it easy. Ordered some clear blue digital tests to see how far along so should get that later. Cant believe it happened straight away after my dd took a year to conceive and im 8 years older now!!

DeccaMitford · 08/10/2015 12:28

Congratulations Belle! Hope to see you in grads shortly x

Cookiesandcoffee · 08/10/2015 20:44

Congratulations Belle how exciting!! Great news!! I'm pretty sure I had those dull aches with both of my pregnancies so sounds good!
I think I'm going to ovulate some point at the weekend and I am staying with the In laws and I won't be able to test to know whether I ovulated and when Sad having a sulk and eating Oeros..
Sorry for the rant!

FuzzyOwl · 09/10/2015 15:13

Congratulations Belle.

lostindubai · 09/10/2015 20:07

Ahh congrats Belle. Same happened for me, took a year first time and then straight away second time (admittedly only three years older though!) Bit of a shock isn't it!! Grin

Belleboo23 · 09/10/2015 20:16

It is a shock! I have a ds who is 12 and my dd is just 8, my hubby says people will think this one is an accident Grin definitely not tho lol xx

Tamara160 · 11/10/2015 21:47

Congratulations Belle!! Very happy for you! Smile

Cookies are you able to sneak off anywhere while you're staying with them?

Cookiesandcoffee · 11/10/2015 22:12

Nope, no chance to opk or temp (had to share a bedroom and bathroom with both my DDs. I did one tonight when I got home but still negative (CD15 I think) so maybe I haven't missed it? I've got cramps and CM so I'm confused. And eating chocolate.

Does anyone else hide a bit of craziness from their husband/partner? Like I'm so 'casual' but not actually letting on about the over analysis of my cycle etc?!

Annarose2014 · 12/10/2015 17:15

Fell off the thread but am still tentatively crossing fingers for this month.

EWCM today on Day 14 so hopefully I'm well in my fertile area even though my fetility app says its not for several more days. But thats going on historical cycles of 34/35 days, whereas I took soya isoflavones during this last period to shorten things a bit. So I would expect to ovulate earlier.

God the pressure during the optimum days! Hmm

FuzzyOwl · 12/10/2015 17:54

Positive OPK today. Fingers crossed all goes well this cycle.

Cookiesandcoffee · 12/10/2015 20:07

Eekk Fuzzy exciting. I have good vibes!

I've never heard of the soya isoflavones?? What is it and does it shorten your cycle?!
Do people still take agnus cactus I think it was? Took it last time ttc and it's always sold out in my H&B and my other health shop doesn't sell it?

FuzzyOwl · 12/10/2015 20:49

I've never tried Soy Cookies but it was quite popular on the ttc threads last year. I think it does shorten the cycles as it works like a natural clomid.

Annarose2014 · 13/10/2015 12:15

Soya Isoflavones are derived from soya beans. They have been dubbed “the natural Clomid,”As they work in pretty much an identical manner.
Just like Clomid; Soya Isoflavones work by tricking your body into thinking its low on oestrogen. Your body then kick starts production of FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone) followed by LH (Luteinizing hormone) Which are both necessary to release Healthy Eggs during ovulation.
FSH is released at the start of the menstrual cycle; it stimulates the growth of an immature egg into a fully matured egg. When the egg has matured your body then releases a surge of LH. LH is the hormone that tells the ovary to release the egg.

WHEN?
You take Soy Isoflavones, like Clomid, on either CD 1-5 , 2-6, 3-7 , 4-8 or 5-9.
If you take soy Isoflavones during the later time bracket, for example CD5-9, you shall strengthen the egg that has already started growing producing a healthier egg. The earlier in your cycle you take It, the higher your chance of releasing multiple eggs but these eggs will not be as mature as the eggs grown from taking Soya later.
A lot of women will choose the middle cycle (3 -7) allowing time for a strong and healthy egg to develop without erasing the chance of a second egg being developed and released.

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

DOSE?
The dose is really down to you but you should always use the lowest amount that works for you.
With Clomid the starting dose is 100mg. Soya Isoflavones are said to be half the strength of Clomid, so it makes sense for the starting dose to be 100mg.
The trouble with 100mg of soya is that the capsules tend to come as 40mg. So you have a choice of starting at 80mg.
Some women change the dose on different days. So they may start at 120mg for the first 3 days then give an extra boost for the last 2 days with 160mg.

As I have said though, use the lowest dose possible for yourself. If you ovulate using 120mg/day stick to that for a few cycles. GIVE IT A CHANCE. It is said that it takes 3months to get the full benefits of what you are taking. NEVER EXCEED 200mg/day.

OTHER BENEFITS?
The following potential health benefits are attributed to Isoflavones:
Reduce heart disease risk
Protect against prostate problems
improve bone health
Reduce cancer risk

SIDE EFFECTS?
As with any medication, taking Soya Isoflavones may cause side effects such as:
Nausea
Headaches
Dizziness
Hot flushes
Night sweats
Cramping
Diarrhoea
Lack of fertile cm
Thrush
Obviously the higher the dose you take the higher your chance of experiencing side effects.

DO NOT TAKE SOYA ISOFLAVONES WITHOUT CONSULTING A DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
Breast cancer, hepatic disease, prostate cancer, kidney disease, taking hormone treatments, thyroid disease, and allergies to soy, peanuts or other legumes.
Soy Isoflavones should not be taken while breastfeeding or pregnant.
Soy Isoflavones may interact with the following medications; androstenedione, antibiotics, clomiphene, DHEA, contraceptives and other female hormones, finasteride, raloxifene, red clover, tamoxifen, testosterone and other male hormones, thyroid hormones, and toremifene.
NOTE: Just like Clomid, Soya Isoflavones may not help some women at all!
Although research carried out on FF has shown that 77% of women taking Soya Isoflavones on the stated days at the stated doses, got there BFP on their first cycle taking them!

Annarose2014 · 13/10/2015 12:20

I have ovulation spotting today so all signs point to my ovulating now (day 15) as opposed to last month which was about day 23. And I've never had spotting before so it does seem to be a stronger ovulation (also have loads more EWCM than normally but that may be TMI, lol)

I just took them cos my cycles were getting longer and longer and it was becoming harder to spot ovulation so I felt I was missing the window.

I will say one thing, they made me feel sick/headachy so I was glad I had a tip from another thread to take them last thing at night so I slept through the side-effects.

Annarose2014 · 13/10/2015 12:22

Oh, I took them day 2-6 btw.

FuzzyOwl · 13/10/2015 15:39

I have ovulation pains today as well which is really annoying as, despite yesterday's positive OPK, I thought I wouldn't ovulate until tomorrow or Thursday. Last dtd on Saturday morning and if my side doesn't continue to hurt too much will again tonight. So annoyed with myself now for not dtd last night as I had planned as I am sure I have missed out this cycle now, but at least I know I am ovulating again as I hadn't been sure since giving birth.

Tamara160 · 18/10/2015 10:01

Hi everyone! I replied the other day but it seems as though it never posted. How strange.

How is everyone doing? Anyone close to testing? I have a week to go and I'm already going mad!

Annarose2014 · 18/10/2015 13:16

I still have a good week to go - impossible to know as I've been tinkering with my cycle. But CM has gone very definitely sticky so it does look like ovulation is over anyway.

Luckily I'm too busy to really be going mad just yet!

MrsSantaClause · 18/10/2015 15:19

It's my fertile window atm, we dtd Friday night and hoping for another one over the next few days fx. Then will be the dreaded tww. Have arranged for friends to come round for a take away the weekend after I am due to test, so if we're successful I may have to tell them as there is absolutely no other reason I can think of that would justify my not drinking! Didn't think that through properly did I!!! Confused just have to wait and see I guess

Cookiesandcoffee · 18/10/2015 20:47

Thanks anna that's really interesting! I had never heard of them before, well nearly 4 years since TTC.
I was convinced I wasn't going to ovulate (very impatient) and missed a day of opk as we have been on holiday. Took one the following day and a line but not very strong. Following day no sign of a line at all. Do we think I had my surge on the day I didn't test?! Was a lot later than expected.

Anyway who is due to be testing soon? Any sniff of a BFP? Anyone due to test?

Tamara160 · 19/10/2015 23:13

Hmm cookies I'm not sure... it's possible. But don't you have 24hrs or so from the surge to dtd? You might still be in with a chance. FX for you.

Haha MrsSanta oh dear. Hopefully they'll take your mind off testing for a while.

I'm due to test next tuesday or wednesday. I'm not really sure as my cycle was a bit longer last month. I feel fairly normal this month other than burning/tingling boobs and a heavy feeling in my pelvis area. Got a stinking cold though too. Not impressed. I'm at a wedding on Saturday so i need to think of a reason why I'm not drinking. They all know I'm usually game for a drink so it may be tricky!

darkpandora · 27/10/2015 17:09

Hey everyone it's very quiet on here..thought I would pop back and see how you'd are all getting on can't wait to see you all on the grads thread one day soon take care of yourselves Smile

Tamara160 · 27/10/2015 21:21

Hi Pandora!

How are you doing? I hope morning sickness hasn't hit you too hard!

I'm testing tomorrow and am a nervous wreck! Fingers crossed I'll be joining you tomorrow!!

lostindubai · 28/10/2015 06:50

Ahh Tamara good luck for your test! How did you get on with not drinking at the wedding?!

Also popping back to say hi to everyone. It's definitely less busy on here, I think a lot of people stopped posting when that password change happened sadly. Hopefully they'll come and find us again, and maybe we'll get some new recruits too!

Love and luck to all x

Annarose2014 · 28/10/2015 11:16

Also popping back - sadly I doubt this cycle will be the one. I'm on day 30 and feel......precisely nothing.

I caved and did tests a couple of days ago and they were negative so I think it just didn't happen. Annoying, cos I'm sure we hit the window! Makes me wonder if its age finally making a difference as I'm 40. But thats prob just paranoia.

I really wanted a summer baby as having a winter baby is pants!
