5 months off pill, still no period

Hi ladies, I came off the pill (Yasmin) over 5 months ago now and have had no period. Twice in this 5 month window I have had very, very light spotting that has happened for 3 days each time (but it really was super light). I have had bloods taken that came up "normal" but what the hell does that mean given depending in when in a cycle they were looking for a normal result would alter accordingly depending on where in the cycle you were!

I have a GP appointment in 2 weeks (which is 6 months no period) and would love some help with what question I should be asking in terms of next steps.

Also, have any of you had to wait this long for your first period?

I am 32, TTC#1, was on Yasmin for 8 years and another pill for 5 years before that.

Thanks.

Hi all, wondered if anyone had any news or updates? Coming up to 8 months for me with absolutely nothing :( I've had repeated blood tests which all show normal hormone levels and a scan, of which the outcome was 'slightly polycystic with a few large follicles' So still none the wiser really!

Moomin37 · 24/05/2015 23:32

Hi Polly almost 11 months for me - been waiting for lap and dye for months and still not had an appointment from the hospital. Don't think I'm meant to have kids.

Ginfizz90 · 24/05/2015 23:55

Hi everyone! So nice to keep in touch with you all. Smile
I'm an emotional wreck these days, I have been put on metformin since being diagnosed with PCOS. I have had one period but it was just a withdrawal bleed from going back on the pill temporarily. Now cd28 and no AF, not expecting it anytime soon. Really hope the met starts helping!

We need some good news on this thread!!!!!

Moomin37 · 25/05/2015 20:34

Hey Ginfizz thanks for popping back and good luck with the Met :)

eskimoflo · 25/05/2015 22:02

Hello ladies, so sorry that there hasn't been better news for any of you. As for me, it's coming up to 6 and a half months now and I still haven't had a natural AD. Since January, I've been on Norethisterone twice in order to do blood tests, an ultrasound and a HSG, all of which are 'normal'. The only thing that was flagged up by the ultrasound was that my ovaries are slightly enlarged. I'm currently on CD35 after taking the last lot of Norethisterone and this time round, I've had CD21, CD 28 and CD32 bloods to check for ovulation. The first two showed that I hadn't ovulated and the CD 32 tests aren't back yet- will get them Thursday. I have a follow up appointment for everything at the fertility clinic on the 4th June. Really hope we all start to get some good news soon. Thinking of you all Flowers

eskimoflo · 25/05/2015 22:03

Of course I meant natural AF, not AD Hmm

eskimoflo · 25/05/2015 22:08

Polly your large follicles are a good thing though, no? Mine were all small, with no sign of a dominant one at all-they were all the same size, which isn't good is it?

Moomin That's rubbish that you're still waiting after all that time- have you called them to ask what's taking so long?

Gin Really hope the met starts to work for you soon Flowers

eskimoflo · 25/05/2015 22:31

Almost forgot, I''ve had a slight name change since we last chatted, as you may have gathered. It was intended to bring me some luck... I'm still waiting! Hmm

Ginfizz90 · 01/06/2015 10:41

Hi ladies, just thought I'd update you... I just managed a 34 day NATURAL cycle!!!!
I cannot believe it, after going over 9 months with nothing, I had a forced bleed and then I was prescribed met by my gynae and started taking it two weeks ago although still not managed to work up to the full dose. Did not expect any AF at all anytime soon. 34 days isn't still probably classed as a normal length and who knows if I will get another one but for now I'm so chuffed!

I know only you ladies will understand my excitement hahaSmile

Yesterday started getting cramps and then bam it's AF! I have no idea what's helped weather it is the metformin or just because I've not stressed about it for a while!

eskimoflo · 01/06/2015 22:24

Yay for AF Gin Happy days Grin Keep us updated won't you?

I had my CD32 bloods back. The progesterone level was 1, which shows that I'm not ovulating at all. I have an appointment on Thursday at the hospital, so will see what the consultant suggests. x x

Ginfizz90 · 01/06/2015 22:59

Sorry to hear that's Eskimo. At least you can power on through to consultant now and put an end to the waiting game! Have you had any AF since coming off?

I don't know if ive ovulated at all!Confused

eskimoflo · 01/06/2015 23:09

No AF apart from two that were brought on by progesterone pills. You're right; I've had all of the tests now, so it's up to the consultants to decide what to do! I'm hoping for clomid, but a little bit scared of it!

Are you going to have any blood tests to check for ov?

Ginfizz90 · 01/06/2015 23:31

I hope the worst is over for you now, I really do!

Well I think I'm going to see what happens over the next few cycles. That's if i get another one! I'm scared I won't

Joey0805 · 05/06/2015 19:00

Well hello there...really happy to hear things are getting going now Ginfizz...so ladies, there is in fact light at the end of the tunnel. Somehow, I am now 9 weeks pregnant! After cycles that we're 150 and 55 days there or thereabouts I managed to ovulate on day 35 of my last cycle ( literally zero consistency) and ended up getting PG. Anyway, I just wanted to check on to give you all some comfort these shitty long and unpredictable cycles don't necessarily mean the worst (and also to say OPKs are pretty helpful when things are so irregular). Good luck xxx

Huge congratulations Joey Smile I'm still waiting for AF to arrive after stopping Yasmin - it will be s year next month! Have a lap and dye soon and will then know if I need fertility treatment, do things moving forward at last. Thanks for updating us and all the best :)

eskimoflo · 06/06/2015 23:35

Massive congratulations Joey! You give us all hope Smile

Moomin A year is rough Flowers Have you had any tests previously or will the lap and dye be your first? It seems like quite a big thing for an initial test. Hmm

On Thursday, the consultant gave me 6 months supply of clomid. He only gave me one round of Norethisterone to bring on AF though, so not sure what I'll do if the clomid doesn't work and I still don't have a period. Confused I will have CD21 tests to see if it has worked and then go from there I suppose. xx

Hi ladies, I just wanted to jump on to give you some hope and share my story with you...

I stopped taking the pill back in December 2013 and when I had not seen AF for 3 months I went to see my GP. I had so many blood tests and scans, all normal. I even had a hycosy to see if my tubes were blocked and only then discovered I had PCOS. By this time it was November and still no AF. I was referred to a fertility clinic which included more blood tests and a sperm analysis for DH. It seemed like a never ending process. At the last appointment in February, we were finally told we would be given clomid at our next appoint in July!

Well it turns out I won't be needing that appointment! I'm 13 weeks today, by some freaking miracle without having had AF for 18 MONTHS!!
So what I really wanted to say is don't give up, keep DTD even though it seems pointless at times in terms of TTC because you just never know! It's such a shit situation when what you want is so easy for others. It's so unfair, but the struggle will be worth it!

Massive fingers crossed for you all, good luck! Flowers

Moomin37 · 08/06/2015 20:55

Eskimoflo I paid to have a private consultation including internal scan in January and have been on NHS waiting list ever since. I have some problems, but DH sperm is fine :)

Thanks ever so much for stopping by Sherbert - it's kind of you to take the time to share your story and huge congratulations on your BFP! You have given me some hope :)

Vicky2307 · 26/09/2015 00:30

Hi,is anyone still reading this post? I have just read all the messages and suddenly don't feel like I'm on my own!!
Stopped taking the pill back in May and other than withdrawal bleed have had nothing since :-(
Went to the docs after 3months who told me to wait another 6-8weeks before going back for a blood test. It will be 6weeks on Thursday....the longest 6weeks I have had!!
After reading all the messages I'm not sure I will get many answers from this blood test, but fingers crossed!
How is everyone else getting on? X

eskimoflo · 26/09/2015 11:24

I'm still here Vicky Good luck with your blood tests. Smile I am on what will probably be my last round of clomid. 50mg and 100mg didn't work for me, so they put me on 150mg. Have had to take Norethisterone to induce all of my bleeds since coming off the pill last November. I'm not holding out much hope for the clomid this time either, and am hoping that, if it doesn't work, I will be given a course of injectables.

Both Moomin and I are regular posters on the 'Bumsnet' thread, which is full of lots of lovely women. You're very welcome to join us x x x

Hi I’m new with this I was wondering if anyone has a similar problem and looking for advice I started the pill about July 2018 - April/may 2019 I have had the first “fake period” that u get when u finish the pill then I went a while without June my prom I then I spotted in August and September I think and November I had brown discharge for 2/3 days and have had nothing since then, is this normal? and any advice how to regulate/get my period back? I just don’t fancy going to the doctor I have bad anxiety and don’t want to be getting needles and tested unless I really need to ! I was just seeing if anyone knows anything or is in a similar situation? Before I do end up having to book an appointment many thanks

Sammyd94 · 21/03/2021 21:49

Hi @Joey0805 . Looking back on your post from 2015 and saw that you ended up falling pregnant. Your initial post about getting very light spotting for 2-3 days at the time of your period when you came off the pill sounds a lot like me. If you’re still on here I was wondering how long it actually took for you to get a proper bleed?
By seeing that you ended up pregnant I know there’s light at the end of the tunnel but I’m just so impatient!
