5 months off pill, still no period

Hi ladies, I came off the pill (Yasmin) over 5 months ago now and have had no period. Twice in this 5 month window I have had very, very light spotting that has happened for 3 days each time (but it really was super light). I have had bloods taken that came up "normal" but what the hell does that mean given depending in when in a cycle they were looking for a normal result would alter accordingly depending on where in the cycle you were!

I have a GP appointment in 2 weeks (which is 6 months no period) and would love some help with what question I should be asking in terms of next steps.

Also, have any of you had to wait this long for your first period?

I am 32, TTC#1, was on Yasmin for 8 years and another pill for 5 years before that.

Thanks.

How is everyone getting on? I'm still waiting, need to find out the results of my blood tests and see where to go from there. I did notice a bit of blood in my pants yesterday, only a tiny amount thogigh, not even enough for a pantyliner. Nothing since though so not sure what it was!

Ginfizz90 · 28/01/2015 22:40

That sounds hopeful? No nothing from me I have the drs on Friday! Determind not to be fobbed off this time. I am worried I may have pcos or something- trouble is you google things and you worry more. I don't have any symptoms but sometimes you don't!

Moomin37 · 30/01/2015 07:21

CD205 after stopping the pill here. I was on the pill for about 15 years, most if which was Yasmin. No PCOS and regular periods before the pill. Got fed up with being fobbed off by GP and paid £401 to go private and so glad I did as I now need further investigations and may need to go down the IVF route. Off to see GP this morning to see what they make of the consultants report - will be interesting to see how they react when I ask why they said my blood tests were 'normal' and according to the consultant they are not and a clear indication of a problem! Sorry this is a bit brief - need to get a move on!

Glad to hear others have had AF reappear and don't let my story dishearten you if you're still waiting Smile - just thought I would share in case anyone else is in my situation.

Ginfizz90 · 30/01/2015 17:16

Hi everyone, went back to drs today and was told there is nothing she will do until it's been 12 months. I said I've been so stressed and worrying at night I can't sleep and she said to just try and relax! I did ask if I could have PCOS and she said I don't fit the bill- but I know not everyone shows symptoms!

After 12 months i have to return and she will check bloods. :(

Moomin I can't believe this! What did your go say when you went this morning?

Do you know exactly what the scan showed that bloods didn't?

Pollypoppins · 30/01/2015 18:23

I was told that I didn't look like someone with pcso too.....I wasn't filled with confidence!

Ginfizz90 · 30/01/2015 18:35

So disheartened, feel like crying! You can't tell if somebody has pcos by just looking at them. I'm beginning to really worry about my fertility

eskimolaura · 30/01/2015 18:43

What does someone with PCOS look like?!

I am a bit gutted. I called up today to find out the results of my bloods and make a dr's app, as the doctor said he wanted to see me regardless of the results. They said that the results were ok and there was a note saying 'no action required,' however I pushed for an appointment and managed to get in for 3.40, which was 15 minutes before my acupuncture appointment (also at the same surgery).

When I went in to see the doctor, he looked a bit confused when I said that the results were ok, and then he explained that they hadn't had the full results back yet. Turns out that they had only received the results for the thyroid test. They are 'normal' but they haven't yet had the hormone test results or the prolactin results.

He told me to wait until Tuesday and then call back Angry

So I have gone from not really thinking too much about the tests this week (out of sight, out of mind kind of mentality), to being relieved after I rang up, to feeling a bit miffed and now worried because it's on my mind! But it's a good job that I did make an appointment to see the doctor and not just left it after I'd heard they were 'ok,' as I wouldn't have rang up again if I'd followed the 'no action required' message. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

On the plus side, I thoroughly enjoyed my acupuncture session and felt very relaxed and a little woozy after it! I have another session same time next week. Fingers crossed it's done something! x x

Pollypoppins · 30/01/2015 19:03

I feel the same. I do keep trying to tell myself to keep positive but the 'what ifs' do frighten me. Finally opened up to my mum this week about everything that's been going on. There isn't really anything anyone can say though :(

Ginfizz90 · 30/01/2015 19:29

eskimo!! Thank god you pushed for an appointment- I wonder once the hormone results came back if they would have contacted you.
About 18 months ago I was admitted to hospital with stomach pains turns it wasn't anything serious but I had lots of tests, ultra sounds on uterus and ovaries which all came back fine. I also had an MRI scan of my entire pelvis and was all fine too. I think they would have noticed if i had pcos then.
I'm going to get Angus castus tomorrow. I've looked into acupuncture, how did you find it?

eskimolaura · 30/01/2015 19:48

Polly I haven't told my mum anything, which is strange for me as I normally do. I think it's because I'm hoping that there won't be anything to tell in a few months time... but I kind of want to tell her about my acupuncture. I know that her response will be something like 'oh don't worry, I was 33 when I had you and nearly 35 when I had your brother, and me and your dad had no problems...' as if that will reassure me. Hmm

Ginfizz I wasn't looking forward to the acupuncture. After the blood tests on Monday, my arm was really bruised and sore, and still is, so I really wasn't relishing the thought of more needles. Plus when I got there, I noticed that the acupuncturist's hands were really shaky (he was quite an old guy- he explained when I called him to make an appointment that he was semi-retired, which I thought was good at the time- more experienced and all that!), so I was slightly concerned that he might stab me in the eye or something. However, I take it all back. I didn't feel the needles really at all, and I was very relaxed throughout it.

He stuck a needle in the top of my head (scalp), one between my eyebrows, one on each of my hands, between the thumb and forefinger, some on my abdomen, some on my knees and some on my feet. I then had about 15 minutes of relaxing and he took them out. Afterwards, I felt really good! I liked it a lot. I am sceptical about alternative therapies; however, I'm willing to try anything at least once and, if nothing else, I think it improves state of mind if you think you're doing something, anything to have even a tiny effect on a situation in which you're otherwise quite powerless. I'm going again next week :) x x

eskimolaura · 30/01/2015 19:53

Forgot to add, I've been taking the Agnus Castus for since Monday too- in for a penny... etc.

TMI: I think it might be turning my poo black... Confused

Ginfizz90 · 30/01/2015 20:15

Oh god sounds great! Lol

I just hate not being in control! My dr did not seem phased at all. Just kept telling me to relax. It's pretty hard to do

Moomin37 · 01/02/2015 07:20

Hi Ginfizz my GP is referring me for a lap and dye as scan showed various problems (saw a different one and he was lovely). Will have to wait and see what the outcome is and therefore what treatment is required. At least my AMH came back as normal - a huge relief!

eskimolaura · 01/02/2015 11:32

I have the app 'My Days,' which charts your periods and tells you when you're ovulating etc. Until this month, I've had nothing to input- as no periods since I came off the pill in November. However, I put in my withdrawal bleed from Norethisterone from earlier this month (as a period) and it told me that today would be the start of ovulation (not peak, but high fertility), based on a 28 day cycle.

So I took an opk- clearblue smiley face 4 day window one, and I got a flashing smiley! First one ever! Couldn't quite believe it. It's day 10 of my 'cycle.' I'm still mindful that it was a withdrawal bleed and not a period, but things 'seem' to be on the right track.

Here's the timeline of events:

Beg of November: Stopped taking the pill- Loestrin, which I'd been on for about 5 years, and before that had been on Marvelon and Microgynon 30 for about 10 years, with a few months on the mini-pill before my 20s.

November: Withdrawal bleed from Loestrin.

January 8th: Went to the doctors after no period throughout November and December. Prescribed Norethisterone to induce a bleed in order to do blood tests.

Jan 23rd: Withdrawal bleed from Norethisterone.

Jan 26: Blood tests done. Started to take Agnus Castus and Evening Primrose Oil capsules.

Jan 30th: Acupuncture session.

Feb 1st: Flashing smiley on opks :)

Hoping that all of the above have kick-started my body... will let you know! x x x

bucketfullofwater · 02/02/2015 19:26

Feeling very despondent at the moment, rang up the surgery and the receptionist said there was an abnormality in my blood tests but obviously wouldn't say what it was. Now have to wait for my appointment later in the week, so frustrating, just want to know what's going on!

How is everyone else doing? Fingers crossed for good news from you all

Ginfizz90 · 02/02/2015 22:42

Sorry bucket, what a horrible wait you now have. Wonder what has shown up?
Nothing from me, don't even feel like it's coming :(

Vaughaybaby88 · 03/02/2015 00:21

Thanks for posting everyone you actually inspired me to post knowing others are in the same boat!

I came off Microgynon in Nov 2013, then had blood tests Jan 2014 but all was normal. Then no period until Sept 2014 which was really light so I went back to doctors who referred me for a scan. Had my scan which didn't show any growths or pcos so I was told my uterus was all healthy its just a waiting game. I went back to doctors Jan 2015 and was given 10 days of Norethisteron so I've had a heavy withdrawal bleed.

Its been 19 days since the first day of my bleed and I've been obsessively using ovulation sticks to check for my LSH surge but nothing. Its sooooo disheartening, and my amazing husband is being so supportive but when hes asking me if what my ovulation result is I feel such a physical failure when I say no ovulation today! We have been having sex regularly and I've been putting legs in the air so just hoping on some positive news!

Would you recommend the herbal tablets?

Fingers crossed for us all soon

Ginfizz90 · 03/02/2015 12:02

You poo thing! That sounds like such a rollercoaster. Is there anyway you could get a second opinion?

The good news is that you've had tests and they've came back fine. Perhaps you will have another period in two weeks time and will ovulate after that one??

Ginfizz90 · 03/02/2015 12:39

Poor* lol

Ginfizz90 · 04/02/2015 22:43

Any news from anyone?

I've been feeling really nauseas for the last few days, painful cramps low down on lh side of tummy and some really weird aching at the top of my thigh! No idea what's going on, could be just coming down with something I suppose. So not like me to have no appetite.

eskimolaura · 04/02/2015 22:49

Hi Ginfizz CD13 for me and day 4 of the flashing smiley face on Clear Blue Digital. Hoping to get a peak smiley in the next couple of days. Have dtd on Sun and last night and will again tomorrow night. Have tentatively joined the February Bus thread, but also trying not getting my hopes up even though I had watery cm yesterday and possibly the start of ewcm today. Seems like things are moving in the right direction, but also keeping my feet on the ground as I'm mindful I've not had a natural period. Acupuncture session again on Friday- hopefully I'll have a peak smiley by then!

Maybe the cramps mean you're gearing up for AF? Fingers crossed for you x x

Ginfizz90 · 04/02/2015 22:59

That's exciting! Congrats on your flashing smiley.
I have had no ewcm but lots of watery, milky cm.
I keep thinking maybe I should do preg test with all this nausea & cramping but I'm pretty sure it will be negative as still not had a period since coming off pill in September.

eskimolaura · 04/02/2015 23:04

Thank you. I have no idea about testing; I'm so new to all of this! Have you asked for a second opinion at your GP? x

Ginfizz90 · 04/02/2015 23:11

I have got to wait another 3 months if periods still haven't returned she will do some tests. She told me to relax and it will come lol! Easier said than flipping done. I feel slightly more positive as I can definitely feel something going on down there haha!! Have you had any symptoms?

eskimolaura · 04/02/2015 23:14

Oh, 3 months isn't that long then, in the grand scheme of things Flowers I think the fact that you can feel something is a good sign :) What do you mean, symptoms? I've just had the smiley flashing face and the watery cm. Nothing else so far. x x
