5 months off pill, still no period

Joey0805 · 19/01/2015 19:49

Hi ladies, I came off the pill (Yasmin) over 5 months ago now and have had no period. Twice in this 5 month window I have had very, very light spotting that has happened for 3 days each time (but it really was super light). I have had bloods taken that came up "normal" but what the hell does that mean given depending in when in a cycle they were looking for a normal result would alter accordingly depending on where in the cycle you were!

I have a GP appointment in 2 weeks (which is 6 months no period) and would love some help with what question I should be asking in terms of next steps.

Also, have any of you had to wait this long for your first period?

I am 32, TTC#1, was on Yasmin for 8 years and another pill for 5 years before that.

Thanks.

Angel I was on Loestrin, stopped my pill in Oct last year and still nothing. Had my withdrawal bleed as usual but absolutely nothing since then. Seems everyone is totally different though so I wouldn't worry too much.

eskimolaura · 23/02/2015 23:06

Hello ladies, thought I'd pop back on with an update. I am on CD32 after the withdrawal bleed from Norethisterone. Still no AF. I had really bad cramps a week ago- on CD26, for about 3 days, but no bleeding. Have taken three pregnancy tests, one on CD26 (far too early to tell!), one on CD29, and one yesterday, but all BFN obviously.

Really hoping that AF will arrive soon, either that or I get a BFP. FX for all of you too.Ginfizz -they are really good signs!

I have been reading up on it, and apparently you can ovulate again even if you miss a period, so I'm thinking of starting the OPKs again in a week, even if I haven't had AF. If it hasn't arrived by the end of this week, I'm going to make another doctor's appointment.

Angel2293 · 23/02/2015 23:14

It's so odd I havnt even had a withdrawal bleed. I will leave it 3 months from my finish pill date and visit my GP. I'm just trying to remain calm about it all but it's so hard not to stress about it daily!

X

eskimolaura · 23/02/2015 23:25

I can't tell you not to stress Angel, as that would make me a hypocrite (Stresser of the Year Award here!!), but try not to worry. The menstrual cycle is a very delicate process, governed by certain hormones, and we have been suppressing and manufacturing a mixture of these hormones for years, so it's not surprising our bodies are a bit confused. It might even be that the uterus lining is just taking time to thicken and firm up for a few months before it comes away. It will happen eventually!

(I say this today, but if I had typed a reply yesterday, it would have been full of pessimism and woe! It really is 'one day at a time' at the moment...)

Angel2293 · 23/02/2015 23:34

Thanks for the reply it's really reassuring to speak with others as I don't want to talk to anyone I know about things like this as I then feel added pressure in that people known im trying and then may ask me in a months time 'how's it going'

must stay calm

How long have you been trying EskimoLaura?

eskimolaura · 23/02/2015 23:43

I only came off the pill in November, and we sort of tried 'blindly' in December, without knowing anything about ovulation etc. After I was prescribed the Norethisterone in January, I had positive OPKs and we really went for it, so this is only the first month of trying properly, as it were. It seems to have lasted forever, and I'm now on CD32. Really hoping something will happen soon! It's so frustrating isn't it Flowers

Angel2293 · 23/02/2015 23:49

Yeah seems like slow motion sat here waiting for anything to happen even a period to come my way! I think I'll get ovulation tests if nothing works out in 2 months of 'luck' of trying. Then GP at 3 months if no AF arrives.

Off to bed now speak soon - night all x

Ginfizz90 · 27/02/2015 11:11

Hi all,

Got so excited yesterday, I had a little bit if brown spotting. Convinced myself it was finally here woke up this morning and absolutely nothing at all. Still feel crampy and boobs are sore! How can it disappear like that?

Pollypoppins · 27/02/2015 20:20

All sounds very positive Ginfizz90, keep us posted! I have had a few cramps and aches and pains on and off. AF not shown up yet, but I just take it as good signs that my hormones are doing something at last!

eskimolaura · 27/02/2015 21:20

Hello ladies, I have an update, but it's not AF. I'm now on CD36 and no sign of a period. Really thought this cycle was the one, what with the Norethisterone and the positive opks around CD15 etc. etc. So I went to the doctors again on Wednesday and he suggested trying the Norethisterone again, which I wasn't keen on and I ummed and arred and then asked if I could be referred and the doctor agreed to refer me. The thing that swayed it I think, is the fact that I can't remember my cycles and what they were like before I went on the pill.

Anyway... yesterday, I noticed some egg-white type mucus amongst the sticky /creamy mucus and was a bit confused, but had a feeling, just a little niggle that I should do an OPK. I did, and got peak fertility on a clear blue dual hormone test. WTF? Posted for advice on the March bus on here and a people said I should take a pregnancy test, as sometimes a positive opk around the time of AF can apparently mean that you are pregnant. So I took two... BFN on both.

Anyway, we DTD just in case.

I just don't know what is happening at the moment, but I do have a referral being processed in case AF doesn't show... Should take 4-6 weeks.

Ginfizz Congrats on the brown stuff. Surely that's a good sign?!

Polly Cramps are good- FX for you!

Angel Are you there? How are you getting on?

Ginfizz90 · 27/02/2015 21:23

Little bit more spotting this evening. Only very very little. hardly noticeable!! Arghhh my periods were never like this before the pill :( I've had mild cramps for a few days. Maybe it will develop into full AF soon. Should I count this as CD1 lol??

Cramps are a good sign I had them for a few days before postive opk.

AbFab86 · 28/02/2015 15:36

I'm so glad I've found more people in the same boat as me! I came off the pill and I'm currently in day 83 of my 'cycle' (if that's what it dares to call itself). I have PCOS so have never had a normal cycle but I think this is taking the mick a bit. I have an appointment with a gynae doctor on 17th March so hopefully she'll be able to perhaps get me started on clomid. Maybe..

I think this is probably the only area on the whole of MN where people would be happy to see AF!

Ginfizz90 · 28/02/2015 21:29

Ok call me crazy, I did a test and I can see a shadow???

Pollypoppins · 01/03/2015 20:23

Is that an OPK? Or a test test?

Ginfizz90 · 01/03/2015 21:54

A test test lol

Pollypoppins · 03/03/2015 20:42

Ginfizz, what was the outcome? Have you tested again? Or af shown up?

Feeling so fed up about it all today :( Ordered myself some agnus castus to try, anything is worth a go!

eskimolaura · 03/03/2015 23:04

Ginfizz Giz an update! Nothing to report here. CD40 of the 'artificial' cycle.

Polly I am fed up too :( If it's any consolation, we all know how you feel. I have Agnus Castus and used it before I got the positive OPK, but haven't used it since, as can't be 100% sure that I'm not pregnant if AF doesn't show! I don't think I am at all, but am DTD without protection on the off-chance I'm ovulating, so don't want to risk miscarriage, as I read that Agnus Castus can cause this.

Keep the updates coming ladies. We need some good news on this thread!

Ginfizz90 · 03/03/2015 23:57

Hi guys no AF, I haven't bothered to test again I'm sure it was just probably an evap line. After a little bit of spotting I honestly felt like it was it but of course nothing!!!

Just about to hit 6 month mark ?? :(

Msr12 · 04/03/2015 07:20

I'm at the 6 month mark now too ?? Am tracking my temperature but it doesn't really change so no insights there yet. I really wish I'd get some signs that my body is doing something!
It doesn't help that my sister in law is pregnant so that's all that is talked about on every family occasion and I end up feeling rubbish. Am sticking with acupuncture at the min but can't afford many more sessions so really hope something changes soon! Got my doctors app on Monday.
Fingers crossed for for some good news for everyone on here!!

Pollypoppins · 04/03/2015 07:49

It's coming up to 5 months for me. Planning on going back to gp when I get to 6 months.

I tried acupuncture, only one session. It was good and the advice was encouraging. But she recommended I go weekly and it's just too expensive :(

Ginfizz90 · 04/03/2015 13:51

It's honestly making me so down, I'm just getting so worried that i may have pcos or something.

eskimolaura · 04/03/2015 16:10

Don't you think it's the waiting that is the most depressing / frustrating thing? If we had a diagnosis, at least that's something we could work with and look at. This limbo is just the worst thing, as there's so many 'what ifs'. If it's PCOS, then we can have treatment and start researching it- that wouldn't be as bad as not knowing!

I got my referral letter today and have booked an appointment with gynae for 19th March. It's been 5 months still I stopped the pill, but I had that weird withdrawal bleed in between. Plus, I can't remember my cycles from 15 or so years ago, that's a factor.

Will keep you updated Flowers

Joey0805 · 05/03/2015 19:27

Urgh, well I'm back... As a reminder, started this thread on Cd131 or something after coming off Yasmin and no period. Then on c.CD146 AF finally arrived and latest a fairly respectable 5 days. However...now on CD42 and yet again no AF. I'd so hoped that my body was back on track but I've had negative opk's and no symptoms of period coming either. (Also I did take a preg test and got bfn so I know I'm not late because of that). I have a Dr appointment on the 19th and think she'll refer me then as I'm basically 7 months with only 1 period now. This is so frustrating! One of my best friends who started trying the same month as us is having her baby in 2 months time. Another friend who got pregnant straight after her withdrawal bleed had her baby on Tuesday, I'm so fed up now and feel like my body is letting me down. Sorry for the rant, I'll be positive again tomorrow :)

Hi Joey sorry to see that you're back here Flowers

It's CD42 for me as well, only my period was medically induced. I have a referral appointment on the 19th, so we've got that in common too.

Don't apologise to us for ranting- we totally understand the frustration. Try and not get disheartened. Your body is trying to get back on track, with the one period you have had. Plus, you have two weeks to wait until your appointment. (That's what I'm holding onto). I know it's difficult, but we will get there. I am really stressed out today, with work and everything else, but I'm really trying to hold it together. Keep in touch Flowers

eskimolaura · 05/03/2015 20:55

Sorry, that was supposed to say only two weeks to wait! Hmm
