5 months off pill, still no period

Hi ladies, I came off the pill (Yasmin) over 5 months ago now and have had no period. Twice in this 5 month window I have had very, very light spotting that has happened for 3 days each time (but it really was super light). I have had bloods taken that came up "normal" but what the hell does that mean given depending in when in a cycle they were looking for a normal result would alter accordingly depending on where in the cycle you were!

I have a GP appointment in 2 weeks (which is 6 months no period) and would love some help with what question I should be asking in terms of next steps.

Also, have any of you had to wait this long for your first period?

I am 32, TTC#1, was on Yasmin for 8 years and another pill for 5 years before that.

Thanks.

Just noticed on your OP that you are also 32 and TTC #1- are we twins?! :)

bucketfullofwater · 05/03/2015 21:18

How bizarre, my appointment is on the 19th too! I'm taking it as a sign and crossing everything! Still cannot feel anything happening, now hit six months. I've been carrying a tampon around in my handbag just in case since September, do you reckon taking it out will make my period come?! -Murphys law and everything

eskimolaura · 05/03/2015 21:23

Hmm, bucket, maybe we should burn all of the sanitary towels in our houses, and chuck our tampons to invoke the law of sod?

19th March is going to be a turning point for us all Grin

IrnBruja · 06/03/2015 00:00

Hi everyone, first ever post in mumsnet and I'm so glad I found this thread. I was on Depo for nearly six years and finally came off in September and was put on the mini-pill to "settle everything down". Came off it mid-December and....nothing. Occasional mild cramps, tender boobs etc. that are enough to make me reach for a pregnancy test but so far nothing. I'm trying really hard not to become one of those people who test at the drop of a hat, and I know I need to be patient, but god it's frustrating. My husband joked at the start that we were in the "avenue of uncertainty" until I had a period, starting to think it might be a bit long than an avenue...

Msr12 · 09/03/2015 10:18

Doctors app tonight. Quite nervous which is weird as they won't actually do anything today but hope I get a referral or something. ??

Just worked out I'm on cd 210. How depressing! Really want something to happen soon!

eskimolaura · 09/03/2015 18:20

How did your Drs app go Msr12?

Any updates from anyone else?

I had a blood test this morning to check my iron levels, but won't know results until Friday. x

Moomin37 · 09/03/2015 20:20

On CD243 here - no sign of AF whatsoever! On NHS waiting list for lap and dye, so just sitting tight (it should get done at the end of May). It's a bit if a bugger as I'm 36 soon :(

Sorry to learn you're not too far behind me Msr12 and good luck with the test results Eskimo :)

Msr12 · 09/03/2015 20:25

Well I should be getting a phone call in the next few days to sort out an ultrasound and then I have to go back to the Drs and she'll refer me to a gynaecologist. More waiting but I'll feel better when I book these things in.

I know what you mean about the waiting Eskimo-it's so frustrating and I feel like I'm wishing my life away!

Does your doc think your iron levels are too low/high then? I've just had the various hormone blood tests so far.

Fingers crossed we all get some answers or good news soon!

eskimolaura · 09/03/2015 21:39

I think my doc is testing for low-iron levels, as that would indicate anaemia. Not 100%, but presumably, if I was anaemic, my body might be preserving red-blood cells and not releasing them for AF?

It really does suck, doesn't it Moomin? Keep reading pregnancy announcements on FB and feeling so rubbish that I can't even get off the starting blocks!

I confided in one of my friends at the weekend (haven't told anyone really except a couple of close friends at work). She is four months pregnant and already has a son. She told me that, before she had her son, she had really irregular periods and that when she stopped the pill to TTC him, she didn't have a period for months. She said that Agnus Castus really helped to get her regular. When she hadn't had a period for months, she started to take it and 3 weeks later, she had one. She also said that between him, and the latest pregnancy, she'd had two miscarriages, which she hadn't told any of us about. It's really surprising to find out that those closest to you have been through something similar!

After hearing that, I think that, if I don't get AF this week, I will POAS just to be sure and then start to take Agnus Castus every day until something happens, and we'll just have to put the TTC on hold for a while. Really don't want to do that, but can't just keep going for 'pot luck'. It's either that, or try to DTD every other day for the foreseeable, which I just don't think we'll be able to maintain! :(

Joey0805 · 11/03/2015 14:45

Eskimolaura - you're so right...all you ever hear are the "I got pregnant in cycle 1 yay" stories - there must be sooooo many women in our camp. Fair play I will never, ever ask anyone ever again when they're thinking of having kids. I get asked every week, mostly by very well meaning fiends and family but I have zero interest in explaining this situation to everyone I know!

In the end I couldn't do my appt on the 19th so had a telephone appt instead today - fantastic they do this as I had no real need to actually see the doctor and this way I could do it from work and didn't have to wait! Anyhow, I digress... Short of it is my GP is writing a referral to a gynaecologist and I ought have the letter back from them in 2-3 weeks. No idea how long after that the hospital appt will be nor quite what it will entail but it's a start.

Hi ladies,

Glad to hear many of you are getting those referrals. I was meant to be going back to doctor in April if it still hasn't arrived but I had a few days of spotting and wondering if that was actually my first period. I have put every little twinge into my calendar and looked back through and seem to get cramps the same time every month. Last month on the left side, this month on the right. Then two weeks later period pains, and last month it was period pains with spotting. I'm hoping perhaps this could be the start of my ovaries waking up but could be reading too much into it all.

So potentially I could be due on 26th march!!! What a head ache!

Angel2293 · 12/03/2015 21:17

I'm relatively new to forum and don't post much. I stopped my pill exactly a month ago today and have had nothing.no period no withdrawal bleed and negative preg testsHmm feeling fed up everyday checking my pants actually wanting a period for once in my life! I spoke to my GP 2 weeks ago he said leave it a few more weeks he's sure it'll be a BFP or a period that'll come soon but I'm not convinced I was going to leave it 2 more weeks and call him again as I'm worried something is wrongSad they say you can ovulate without periods but I don't even think I'm ovulating x

Ginfizz90 · 12/03/2015 22:09

Angel I would say don't stress about it. There are many women on this thread including myself who have not had a period for 6 months since coming off the pill.

Kindaworried · 14/03/2015 14:35

Hi

I am new here. I wondered if anyone had a similar experience to me. I can't seem to find anything on the web similar. I came off the pill in November, after 6 years, not actually to conceive right now but to give my body a rest. I didn't have a period for 7 weeks (other than the withdrawal bleed) and was a little concerned but heaved a sigh of relief when it did come. But now we are nearly 10 weeks later and nothing. I have read loads of stories about people not having a period for months after coming off the pill but not having one and then going ages! I almost wish the first one had not happened! We have not taken any risks but I did a pregnancy test last week just in case but it was negative. I am not really too surprised that this period was delayed a little because a couple of weeks after the last period I had a really bad strep throat with high fever and had antibiotics for 2 weeks, followed by thrush (TMI?) but I can't imagine that that would delay things this long. I know that my periods were not that regular before I went on the pill but I was only 15 and had only had them for 2 years, and I never waited this long before. I know I am not TTC at the moment but it is something that I desperately want in the near future and am starting to worry that this means there is something wrong. Any comments would be really welcome. Thank you.

Ginfizz90 · 16/03/2015 12:39

Hi girls,

Went to dr again today and had blood taken. I asked what exactly they test for and there were so many things I actually needed two sheets of paper! Also have been referred to have an ultrasound done. They send me a letter soon I think so I can make an appointment. Feeling aprahensive :(

Msr12 · 16/03/2015 14:16

Hi ginfizz,
I'm at the same stage as you then -still waiting for the ultrasound referral letter/call. I've now been told I might have to wait up to three weeks for the call. Hope I don't have to wait forever for an appointment after that.

Is anyone else measuring bbt? Mine are still mainly flat but there was a mini rise and fall this weekend. Not enough for ovulation but I'm hoping something is getting going. (Although it could be due to my sleep in at the weekend!)

Good luck for everyone with appointments this week!

Ginfizz90 · 16/03/2015 22:44

Yay! Same stage lol. Nice to know somebody going through it aswellSmile

I haven't been doing my bbt, I find I'm stressing enough and feel that would just tip me over the edge. Have you had bloods done??

eskimolaura · 17/03/2015 19:50

Hi ladies, just checking in. I have my appointment on Thursday. Not sure what they will say / do though Hmm

I have also, as of Sunday, started the Agnus Castus. It is approaching the 5 month mark and still no sign of anything. I'm really hoping that the Agnus Castus will do something.

Called the doctor for the results of my blood tests (checking iron levels). Apparently, my iron levels are normal, but I have to repeat the tests in 4 weeks, as the bilirubin and the neutrophil aren't. I had no idea what these things were before I did some Googling, but I don't think they are related in anyway to this issue. My dad has Gilbert's Syndrome, which is a really harmless condition that is hereditary and can sometimes cause jaundice. I've never been tested for it and never informed the doctor that my dad has it, so I'm guessing it's that which has been picked up. Like I said though, nothing to do with lack of AF.

How's everyone else? x x

Pollypoppins · 17/03/2015 21:08

No change for me either. I started Agnus castus about 10 days ago but not noticed a difference in anything yet. 5 months for me this week, have got another docs appointment booked for 6 months and will hopefully get referred. Fingers crossed!!

Ginfizz90 · 18/03/2015 12:56

Anxious to get blood test results back, hoping they will be able to give me something I doubt they will until I have the scan done. At least things are happening!

Msr12 · 18/03/2015 13:34

I had various blood tests in December-they came back as "normal" and apparently the levels indicated I was "mid-cycle" which is unhelpful given that my cycle is currently 7 months long...

Really frustrated waiting for the referral info so I can book in for an ultrasound! ??

Hope your blood tests give you some info ginfizz and fingers crossed for your doctors app on Thursday eskimo!

Ginfizz90 · 18/03/2015 15:09

Just called and all my results can back normal "no action needed" that's all the info I got!! Did you ask for a copy of your results to know you were mid cycle?? Obviously it's not normal to be having no periods doesn't make sense!

eskimolaura · 18/03/2015 17:19

I didn't get a copy of my results either, Ginfizz but if it's the three day tests, I think they test to see if your hormone levels indicate early menopause, so presumably, a normal result means that you haven't. The 21 day tests check to see if you have ovulated. I didn't have the 21 day test and I think that may have been an oversight on my doctor's part? Hmm

Thanks for the luck Msr12 It's actually a hospital referral appointment I have tomorrow, not a doctor's appointment, so very exciting. I will keep you all informed x x x

Ginfizz90 · 18/03/2015 18:58

Best of luck Eskimo! Keep us posted.
I wasn't 3 day or 21 day test. It was just one blood test but she tested me for 15 different things, mainly hormonal. Do you think pcos would show on blood results?

Ginfizz90 · 18/03/2015 21:09

Done some research and basically a normal blood test doesn't rule out pcos. Will not know for sure until after ultrasound has been done! Does anybody know how long after the dr referred you did you get a letter for an appointment ?
