Well I'm just waiting for AF to show up and the timings mean I miss January all together. Anyone out there who would like to join me in trying for a BFP in February? :)

CoffeeTwo, 31, ttc #2, cycle 6, BFP due 10th February.

..I guess the only way to be sure is to make certain there are spermz in situ before we ovulate. Trying to time it to be near to the actually egg being released is pushing things a bit, I would aver.

Hairstylisttoboris · 26/01/2015 12:08

purdey with all this info you keep throwing out at us this is bound to be the most successful bus ever! Fab! Keep it coming! You should be God Mother(or equivallent) to many little sticky beans.

PurdeyBirdie · 26/01/2015 12:15

Aw, Boris, you know I'm no expert - and you should always go to the GP with any serious concerns - but I am always happy to relate stuff I've read. I refuse to regale you with purely anecdotal 'evidence' as I have found it royally unhelpful on my own ttc journey. I'm not interested in what so-and-so's second cousin removed's great-grandmother achieved when she was fifty-two and eating only mouldy carpet tiles in 1942 Hmm

ibeka · 26/01/2015 12:23

Aw twinkle, sad to lose my twin...! FX your cm rights itself soon.... Everyone's cycles are so different aren't they, I guess that's the nice thing about here - you realise there's a lot that is 'ok' even when it's different to the 'norm'. Teaching sex ed to yr 9s tomorrow - will have to try hard to pretend you just have to look at a boy to fall;)

purdey have you read much about 2ww? Do I really need to eat pineapple and stop drinking coffee or exercising?? Or should I just carry on as normal...?

PurdeyBirdie · 26/01/2015 12:36

Ibeka, the most prudent thing you can do throughout your cycle is to up your protein. This makes your eggs as healthy as can be (barring age). Some studies have found caffeine is linked to miscarriage and I am beginning to see a lot of medical opinion pointing towards caffeine being responsible for paralysing the muscles of the fallopian tubes, making it difficult for the egg to make the transition to the uterus. I wouldn't change your exercise routine at all. Marathon runners get pregnant and other extreme sporting figures do too. It's all about moderation, innit.

The only things I consider to be of real benefit to fertility are: co-enzyme Q10, maca root, loads of protein, giving up smoking (women) and having a healthy BMI. I don't think enough of us make our partners take supps. Sperm isn't what it used to be fifty years ago (thanks to laptops, obesity, long driving hours and processed foods) and men really could do with a helping hand in the sperm department. Massive improvements can be made to a man's spunk sperm...my DH is living proof of that Smile

PurdeyBirdie · 26/01/2015 12:39

...oh, not forgetting 85% of us are deficient in vitamin D, which is hugely important for fertility (particularly producing progesterone). The B vits are proven to be essential for reproductive health.

mummyofonesofar · 26/01/2015 12:57

Purdey You know so much! It is so helpful reading everything you have to say. What do you think about giving blood? I am due to give blood on Sunday which depending on if AF ever appears will be near the beginning of my cycle and before ov. I know the volume of blood replenishes in about 4 hours. However it takes 6-8 weeks for you to be able to give blood again so it must take some of our "goodness" away which takes longer to be replaced.

When you go to give blood you have to say whether there is any chance you could be pregnant - which the answer will be no so they will be happy to take my blood. However do you know if that will affect my chances this cycle?

nightandthelight · 26/01/2015 12:58

The diet thing really gets me stressed Purdey. Am a veggie (although have started eating fish after doc told me my veggie omega tablets could cause mc, do I need to take fish oil as well). How do I know if I am getting enough protein? Am taking Boots conception so presumably I am getting enough vits?

Very pleased to hear I don't have to give up my running though :)

PurdeyBirdie · 26/01/2015 13:06

It won't affect your cycle/chances one iota, Mummy. It's not the volume of blood in our bodies that aids conception but the right balance of hormones within the blood.

Night, conception supps are to be trusted generally as tons of research has gone into them. I would, however, take extra vit D and co-enzyme Q10 at the very least. Omega 3 must be taken in marine form in order to have any benefit (not just to fertility) and as long as you are eating portions of egg/cheese/nuts/tofu/veg then you will be getting good amounts of protein. Some women drink protein shakes to be sure and I see no problem in that - though some of those drinks can be calorific.

Do you eat quinoa? It has enormous amounts of protein.

PurdeyBirdie · 26/01/2015 13:11

Night, I found this in a respected journal: 'Replacing animal sources of protein with vegetable sources of protein may reduce ovulatory infertility risk'. I have read that from other sources, too, which worries me, as I am categorically not a vegetable fan Hmm

nightandthelight · 26/01/2015 13:13

Thanks so much purdey, what does the co-enzyme do? Never heard of it before! Will try and up my protein intake, perhaps by snacking on nuts in work although I worry about the calorie content (will have to cut down on my chocolate to compensate!) Have never tried quinoa, will keep an eye out for it :)

loopylou1984 · 26/01/2015 13:14

Hi coffee - I haven't noticed a definite difference if I take my temps earlier or later, but this whole cycle has been weird, my post ov temps are much higher than they usually are with today's dropping to what is normally considered high... Who knows!

Spinning - thanks for that, I'll have a look and see what it changed this mornings temp to Smile

I really hate the 2ww! X

loopylou1984 · 26/01/2015 13:20

Ps. Have just stocked up on Tampax in a bid to evoke the law of sod!

whoknew28 · 26/01/2015 13:31

Hi all, is there still room for a little one? I know this a v full bus but I'm a long time lurker who's feeling a bit braver!

My stats are 32, ttc #1, cycle 5 (after MMC Sept 14) bfp/af due 11th Feb.

Good luck all - and purdey - thanks for the info re supplements for the boys - putting my DH on them tout suite!

nightandthelight · 26/01/2015 13:35

Of course there is always room who :)

australopithecus · 26/01/2015 13:40

Dr purdey for president. Or bishop, perhaps!?

whoknew28 · 26/01/2015 13:44

Thanks night Smile You've all kept me sane/cheered up/reassured recently, so nice to not be alone in all this! Everything crossed (well, not quite err everything) for loads of Feb BFPs!

dojo123 · 26/01/2015 13:52

Sammylou I did that same yesterday with sanitary towels!
Come on AF, if you're going to make an appearance, please, lets get on with it otherwise I'm POAS Thursday. Grin

armani234 · 26/01/2015 13:58

Hi I'm really new to all of this and would love to join in with you

loopylou1984 · 26/01/2015 14:14

Lol - dojo! Hopefully it will work and if not then at least we're prepared!

Armani - welcome to the bus Smile

armani234 · 26/01/2015 14:28

Thank you I've just over 13days to wait I think it maybe a long wait!!!

PurdeyBirdie · 26/01/2015 14:31

Oh, whoknew, I am sorry to read of your mmc, they are truly of the devil.

Welcome armani. I am dying to call you Primarni but I shall desist Grin

PurdeyBirdie · 26/01/2015 14:33

Austral, I am strongly against female clergy and am just the lowly bus conductor...DING! DING! Grin

australopithecus · 26/01/2015 14:38

Hi armani. Enjoy the ride. :)
Bus, experience is needed. How many days of seeing faint opk test lines before a positive? What's the longest you've waited? I'm getting tired collecting wee and am now wondering if these kits just give faint lines for no reason other than to screw with your head? What are the chances of faint lines just staying faint and then disappearing altogether again? In your experience will they eventually definitely turn positive? Aaaaaaargh! bangs head against wall

australopithecus · 26/01/2015 14:40

Ding!
