This is a thread for ladies who have been ttc longer than 10 months who have started the ball rolling with tests and treatments. We are all here to support each other though these darker days to the baby shaped light at the end of the tunnel!

Hi victoria, I used to be on the buses a lot but have been taking a break lately. I have read back a bit and sorry to see that you are having a hard time at the moment. Hopefully we can all get through this together x

Landy10 · 19/01/2015 21:38

Lil - that sounds good 10 follicles after only a few days. Hope the pills make your lining grow nice and cushy! Keep us posted with how you are going.

Hi Lucieloos, welcome. Yeah it really is rubbish realising things probably won't pan out how you'd hoped. Although there have been a few ladies on here who have had natural BFPs after 12 months. I'm starting my stims for ivf next week and also have a low amh (5.6) so v low for a 32 (well almost 33year old). I'm doing short protocol which does seem really quick and I think it's what they tend to do for low amh. Luckily for me my nhs are crazy fast with things, but we only get one go.

Hope your day got better Victoria. The witch sucks : - (

lildottie · 19/01/2015 22:28

hi Lucie, sorry your having to join us. not sure what you mean by half ivf and half icsi - icsi is a form of ivf, the only difference is how the eggs are fertilised. I'm currently doing my first ivf with icsi for dc1, ttc 2year 2months.

Vic is your dh on any vits? our consultant told dh to take 1000mg per day of vitamin c as well as zinc and selenium.

lucieloos · 19/01/2015 22:30

Hi Landy that all sounds great and very exciting that you start stimms next week! You are really lucky that your nhs is so quick even if it is only the one go. I think I would get 2 go's and I am thinking of making an appt with my gp soon just to get my name on the list so that if it does come to the worst and the private treatment doesn't work there is always a chance that we have that to fall back on even if it is some way away.

lucieloos · 19/01/2015 22:34

Hi lildottie sorry I meant that they would do icsi on half of the eggs I produce and then just normal ivf i.e. allowing the sperm to fertilise the other half themselves.

victoria401 · 20/01/2015 17:35

Hiya. Feeling better today. Dh has another sa booked in for 2 months time. The day after our 7th wedding anniversary so no nookie that night! Has to abstain 3 days before the test! That's the Monday and Friday after is when af will be due,, so another panicked week making sure we get the results to start iui!

Sorry you have to wait ages on a waiting list Lucie, are you in Wales? I'm Welsh but I've lived 'over the border' for 15 years now! and married an English man, much to my dads disgust! Lol

Hope the new drugs get things working as it should Lil!

OP posts:
lucieloos · 20/01/2015 20:59

Glad you are feeling a bit better vic and have the sa booked in, 2 months will fly by! I do live in Wales, bit of a pain really as we can't afford to wait that long to get our free gos

lildottie · 20/01/2015 22:59

Lucie I'm not 100% sure you'd get NHS treatment after going private. but every PCT is different. might be worth checking.

glad you're feeling better Vic. how's dh? is he getting back on track with the stopping smoking?

lucieloos · 21/01/2015 07:20

Lil I think you can have 2 tries private and still have treatment on nhs. It's after 3 tries that you are no longer eligible for nhs treatment.

victoria401 · 21/01/2015 12:43

Urgh I have cystitis. Not been the best of weeks really. Not got anything to treat it with either. I work at a flipping hospital and I have to suffer in silence. Asked hubby if he can pick me something up on his way home as we have a pharmacy in our street but it will be shut by the time I get home. Fingers crossed he won't feel too embarassed and not get any sachets!

Maybe its for the best we are not starting iui right away. We are both a bit run down after over indulging in crap over Xmas. We are now on healthy home cooking and vitamins and hopefully in a better physical state in 2 months! Oh and Dry January of course!

Hi Ladies,

I hope you wont mind me joining your group, Never done this before but I am feeling really down today..
Been TTC for 15 months. Im 32 (33 soon) and DH 34 was on marvelon for 10yrs+ and stop in Nov 13. it took 12 months for my cycle to regulate (only had 3 AF last yr). Ive been using CBFM for 4 months now and my cycles have been 41-45 days which can't be normal.

Had blood test for PCOS late last year and that came back normal.
I am just feeling really really fed up and i have no one i can talk to about this.

Lindsay81 · 21/01/2015 16:50

You can talk to us, hotnspicy :-) We are similar ages and been TTC for around the same time, although me for a bit longer.

Have you explained to your GP yet how long you have been TTC yet? They should be sending you for an ultrasound scan to check all looks present and correct (LOL), an HSG to make sure your tubes are open and also a progesterone test (this is called a "day 21 test" but it should be done 7 days before your period so for you, probably around cd 36). You DH should be sent for a sperm analysis. All of this you are entitled to on the NHS and it should give you a quick answer if there is something going on preventing you from conceiving, such as no or poor ovulation or a low sperm count/ motility.

Apologies if you've done all this already!

hotnspicy12 · 21/01/2015 17:00

Thanks Lindsay! ive havent had any of that done yet. Got appointment with gp on monday so i guess it will start things rolling.

hotnspicy12 · 21/01/2015 17:11

Has anyone here tried clomid? I've read it can shorten cycles.

Metalhead · 21/01/2015 17:23

Oh no vic, I'm sorry you've got cystitis now as well after AF was so bad for you. I hope you manage to get hold of some meds and feel better soon!

Welcome to the newbies, I hope you won't be with us for long, in the nicest possible way! Wink

Me, I'm not doing very well with my relaxed approach this month... been symptom spotting like crazy as always, even though I know it's pointless. I've also started looking into IVF clinics but am at a total loss as to how you'd go about choosing one! Looking at the success rates some seem much higher than others, but then the HFEA website says you shouldn't base your decision just on those as they can be misleading. What's the bloody point of publishing them then?! And it's not like we could afford to pay for initial consultations with lots of different clinics to decide which one we like best. This alone makes me seriously doubt whether I really want to go down that route. Anyway, sorry for the rant, just had to clear my head a bit.

lildottie · 21/01/2015 18:23

metal I'd choose one based on proximity to where you live/work and waiting list. success rates are going to be affected by the type of patients being treated. there are a lot if appointments to go to which you will need to get out of work for so proximity is an important consideration. I had a choice of 3 clinics. ours was middle reputation but closest. I'm glad we didn't go further afield.

Vic hope dh picked up your sachets. glad the duet plan etc is going well.

hi hot you won't feel lonely here

victoria401 · 21/01/2015 20:38

Hi hot! What Lindsay said. Get those tests rolling and good luck. Bring us the results as we are all experts by now! or just listen to your doctor

Dh got my sachets but I feel worse tonight. Obviously only drank one sachets so not expecting miracles.

I was lucky with my clinic. Its a few miles from my house, I work at the hospital and the stats are good. Shame it has uncaring Drs! Well one uncaring Dr. I'm on the clinics facebook page and there are so many success stories on there it gives me hope, and what seems like an unusual amount of multiples! Yikes! They all say they avoided my Dr and asked to change! And the nurse that gave me the crap needle training, they said to avoid her too! Typically I get both of them.

OP posts:
Metalhead · 21/01/2015 21:41

Thanks for the advice lil and vic, I guess you're right and we should probably choose the closest clinic, if we do decide do go for it. There's one a 10 minute drive away, all the others are more like an hour. I'm quite lucky in that I only work 3 days a week and have very understanding employers, but I guess even so 2 hours travel for each appointment might be a bit much! And I've already met one of the consultants at the nearest clinic as he reviewed me on the NHS, and said I should have roughly a 40% chance of success, which is much better than the rate given on the HFEA website.

Can you not ask to change consultant/nurse as well vic if the ones who've got are rubbish?

Landy10 · 22/01/2015 13:46

Hi hot - you've joined the right place here! Plenty of people who understand.
Metal - I agree with Lildottie and pick based on how easy it is for you to get to. My clinic always keeps me waiting but it's not so bad because it's less than 2 miles from my house and I can get to in 35 mins from work (good for london).

Had my "baseline" scan for ivf this morning. I've got 6 follicles which is one better than the last time so I'm pleased. Although I do have a ovarian cyst, which I'm not too pleased about but the nurse said it's less than 1cm and it's a blood cyst so won't affect my ivf going ahead. My fertility clinic /nhs are so keen just to doll out ivf I never had my tubes checked and the woman doing the scan today said my tubes might be blocked! It doesn't affect ivf but if this doesn't work they better do one of those tube checking tests!

Lindsay81 · 22/01/2015 14:01

How are the water works, Vic?! I suffered so badly with that in my 20s, wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

hot I have actually just been prescribed Clomid (well, Letrozole/ Femara but same thing really). My cycles are only ~26 days, but the problem is that I only ovulate around 9 days before my period, instead of ~14. Apparently ovulation induction can work to improve follicles and therefore result in a better ovulation and longer luteal phase. We'll see!

hotnspicy12 · 22/01/2015 15:24

Thanks everyone happy to have found this group Smile

Metalhead · 22/01/2015 19:36

landy I've read that blocked tubes can be hard to treat so sometimes you need IVF anyway - maybe that's why your trust just skip that test? But it does seem odd. Good news about your scan, and glad to hear the cyst won't affect things.

vic hope you're feeling better today.

I've been sooo hungry all the time the last few days; trying very hard not to convince myself it's a pregnancy symptom. More likely just because I've been feeling a bit depressed...

lildottie · 22/01/2015 22:25

I reckon hormones fluctuations all through the month affect hunger metal. I've been a lot hungrier on thses drugs.

a pointer for you ladies who will be doing injections at some point. if you put the needle against your skin and it hurts move to somewhere else. I'm noticing a pattern with bleeding/bruises! if it doesn't hurt to touch needle to it it goes in better and doesn't bleed/bruise.

scan 3 tomorrow! eek!

lildottie · 23/01/2015 22:50

hi all. just to let you know I had another scan today and all looking good. 18 Folly's in total, 8 or 9 looking good for collection. booked in for ec on Tuesday morning. do my last injection Sunday night. they've started me on protein shakes twice a day now too as my ovaries are doing too well so can leak protein Confused

Metalhead · 24/01/2015 10:09

Sounds ver promising lil! Apart from the leaking protein, that must be a bit worrying... Fx everything goes well on Tuesday though.

BFN for me this morning, couldn't stop myself from poas even though I knew the result. Ho hum.
