This is a thread for ladies who have been ttc longer than 10 months who have started the ball rolling with tests and treatments. We are all here to support each other though these darker days to the baby shaped light at the end of the tunnel!

thanks Vic, feeling a bit nervous now. will report back on how it is once I've done it in the morning.

lildottie · 28/12/2014 09:21

so I just did first injection and it was honestly easy. I did the drawing up of drugs fine, was happy with that from teaching session. got dh to pinch skin for me so I had both hands free to inject. bit of resistance as needle punctured skin but after that it was fine. stung a bit after I took needle out but went off after about 30seconds. I think worst bit is pushing air back into bottle without fizzing up the liquid, which I did in the teaching session so i was prepared for it.

victoria401 · 28/12/2014 09:39

Well done doing your first one lil :-)

Yours do sound a lot more complicated than mine will be though. Only the 2nd drug I have to mix and then draw up and get rid of bubbles etc. Its all a blur from just watching the nurse do it at speed of light though! Maybe she just saw that we are both NHS employees and assumed we could just do things like needles! Me and dh are both very behind the scenes staff, I am a lab technician and he makes sure nurses have a stocked storeroom!

Still 2 long weeks until dh has his deciding test....

Oh I forgot to say... Got home early one day last week, after a colleague offered me a lift home, to find dh smoking in the garden :-( apparently it "hasn't been going on long", although I'd had suspicions for about 2 months :-( he was supposed to have given up 'real' smoking since last Xmas eve so we could be ready for referral. He's failed me :-( If his test comes back too poor for iui next month I don't know what happens next :-( :-(

I didn't have to mix the one this morning thankfully, not looking forward to the mixing ones! you'll be fine Vic. now I've done the first one I'm not worried at all. I'm sure once you've done it you'll be fine.
as for dh smoking Shock I'd be furious. hope you're OK. I guess if results aren't good enough for iui they'll talk about ivf instead. don't worry about that for now though, just focus on each next step.

Landy10 · 28/12/2014 09:55

Well done Lil sounds like you have mastered it. How long do you inject for? When do the scans starts?

That's rather disappointing about your husband smoking. Do you think he is properly smoking or just having the odd one?

I downloaded the Zita West assisted conception booked yesterday and it mentions marathon running as being bad for ivf - my husband is doing a marathon next year and now I'm paranoid about whether he should. He has textbook swimmers so I think I will just ignore it but I'm annoyed I've read that as it's another thing to worry about. There are too many things to worry about, if he wasn't marathon training he would eat less healthy and drink more so really it's a no win situation. Haven't mentioned it to him.

lildottie · 28/12/2014 09:59

landy I inject until 26th ish of Jan. 1st scan 14th.
I wouldn't worry about the marathon running. I find those books are aimed at women not men so its probably fine, and like you say if he's eating better because of it its no bad thing. as long as he's not just started it I think it would be fine.

victoria401 · 28/12/2014 10:55

Since his discovery he's been openly smoking about 4 or 5 a day. He promises he'll stop for definite Jan 1st. I've heard it so many times over the last 9 bloody years....

When do you start your ivf landy?

OP posts:
Landy10 · 28/12/2014 12:16

It's hard to make guys do stuff they don't really want to. At least he has the New Years resolution in place now.

I'm a bit confused with my IVF to be honest. I start taking the pill (microgynon) on first day on my next period (in about 10/11 days time). On 15th Jan we go in for appointment where I get told how to inject. I think the doctor said I would take microgynon for 2-3 weeks then start injections for up to 2 weeks then it's egg collection. Seems short compared to what other people do. I've got all the drugs already - there are a LOT! I could phone the clinic and ask for a more detailed explanation but I think it makes me less obsessed not really knowing the dates if that makes sense.

Vic if your hubby gets the all clear on the sperm test when do you start your injections for iui?

victoria401 · 28/12/2014 12:57

Well the thing is we are cutting it a bit fine anyway... Dh's sa is Jan 13th. Next af is due 17/18th. When we booked the sa we asked the receptionist if we would get results back in time. She said yes, but the speedy Gonzales injection nurse seemed iffy. If we can get result I phone up on day 1 and get a scan on 2 or 3 to make sure the lining is thin enough then start injections.

Landy10 · 28/12/2014 13:52

With my DH first sperm analysis they said a week to get results but he phoned after 4 days (impatient) and they had the results so fingers crossed for you.

I've just spent the morning at soft play with my 3 and 1 year old nephew and niece. Also saw 2 old school friends (who I don't keep in touch with) there with their babies. That's a tough morning. My family all know about our issues and my sister did day do you really want to go but I love hanging with the kids so it was worth it.

lildottie · 31/12/2014 15:59

Happy New Year everyone, I don't think I've ever been so glad to see the back of a year as I am with 2014! Here's to a fresh start and better luck for all of us in 2015! x

Landy10 · 31/12/2014 18:38

Roll on 2015! Happy new year to everyone x

lildottie · 03/01/2015 14:40

Hi everyone. Hope you are having a good start to the new year.

Seventh day of injections today. Have 2 bruises so far but otherwise fairly easy. Even feeling like IVF actually isn't a big deal at all now. the EC and ET just seem like another procedure like hsg now. i thought it would take over once we started but its just 10 mins of my day.

victoria401 · 03/01/2015 17:06

I'm glad things are going well lil when is the ec?

I've just ovd today, only dtd once since Xmas day (this morning) so not expecting a last minute reprieve! So now just counting down to dh's sa on the 13th that'll tell us if we can do iui when I start af.

OP posts:
lildottie · 03/01/2015 17:28

it only takes one Vic so you never know. ec due week commencing 26th.

Lauraqc · 03/01/2015 18:55

I've just gone and bought a syringe and some preseed spray stuff...sorry TMI - I saw it some of the other boards and am now willing to try anything that might work..!!!

I should just bite the bullet and start dieting though ready for our fertility consultant appt on Feb 18th...I should've lost 2st by then and haven't managed to lose single pound so far :(

Chocolate or baby; chocolate or baby...

onelifeonechance · 03/01/2015 19:18

Hello ladies

Just popping on to wish you all a very happy New Year and loads of luck, I very much hope 2015 is kind to each and everyone of you x

lildottie · 03/01/2015 19:44

Laura if you really put your mind to it then the diet change is easy. I have fallen off the wagon over Christmas but before I found within a couple of weeks I was enjoying, even preferring, the high protein low carb diet. when I wanted a treat I made pancakes from mashed bananas egg and wholemeal flour and spread nutella on them. still not too bad for me, one of my 5 a day and tasted naughty! you'll feel so much better for it too.

Lauraqc · 03/01/2015 20:13

Ooh Lil that sounds good! I've managed to lose weight before but this time I just can't seem to get in the 'zone' - i don't know if it's the pressure to HAVE to do it but I'm struggling with willpower. I think I'll be better once I'm back at work with a routine and no temptation around me all day!

Landy10 · 03/01/2015 20:30

Sounds like you are getting on with the injections ok Lil. It'll be your EC day before you know it.

Laura - I can echo what lil has said re the diet. I started high protein low carb a few weeks back, I found week 1 very difficult but honestly after that it was actually fine. I am a massive cake and bread lover and I've managed it so anyone can!

I start the pill when AF arrives - due on Fri. Appointment on 15th then start the stim injections sometime between 23-30th jan. I've been a bit ill this week - got a sickness bug earlier in the week from my niece and then woke up with a cold today!

Lauraqc · 03/01/2015 20:54

Landy I've just joined the 'losing weight and ttc' thread for some motivation! Now writing my meal planner for next week and feeling a bit more upbeat!

Sorry to hear you've been ill though - that's not much fun for the new year is it? Exciting to have the appointment so close now though!
