This is a thread for ladies who have been ttc longer than 10 months who have started the ball rolling with tests and treatments. We are all here to support each other though these darker days to the baby shaped light at the end of the tunnel!

Good luck today vic, I hope it goes well!

I'm still waiting for Bupa's decision and to hear from the consultant whether he can do my op next week...

victoria401 · 27/11/2014 18:25

Appointment done! Think the Dr has mellowed, or I was less sensitive. Anyway, we have a planning appointment Dec 8th and then start treatment my first af after the new year. Omg! Dh is being funny about having time off for appointments though :-( Dr noticed and said we must be on same page as each other on this. Grrrr did he have to show me up like that?!

Glad you've got that sorted Vic! It really surprised me how soon things are going to happen once the IVF offer is there. My husband asked the doctor which parts of the process would require him to be in the country! No joke. He travels a lot, I was so embarrassed. I will tell him when he must be here and he will (much like what has been happening for ages to be here for ov week) no need to ask the doctor!

We will no doubt be IVF cycle buddies as I'm starting first period in Jan too.

Metal - hope you hear from bupa soon.

Ladyboluna · 27/11/2014 18:55

Landy good luck for starting your ivf cycle. How soon was it then from referral for IVF? I haven't had any tests or anything beforehand, and neither has my OH. But I had a letter through this morning from my GP asking me to have one of the blood tests repeated on my next day 21... So no referral for me I guess until after Christmas.

Metalhead · 27/11/2014 19:44

That's great news vic, hope you and landy both get your BFPs very soon in the new year! Smile

I've had some good news too, my hysteroscopy is going ahead next Tuesday and Bupa have agreed to pay most of it, so I will only have to make up the shortfall between their fees and the consultants' fees, which should be between £750-1000. Still a lot of money, but much better than £5k obviously!

Landy10 · 27/11/2014 20:13

I'm so glad for you Metal that bupa will pay majority of your costs. Good start to the crazy annoying journey.

Lady - I think things have moved really fast for me. Had my first set of day 2 and 21 bloods in Aug (DH had semen analysis - all ok). Got told after my day 21 that I didn't ovulate so to go again the next month. Over the phone when I got my result for the non ovulation the doctor referred me to the FC (end Aug, poss start sep).

Then waited 3 weeks, got loads of papers from the FC, filled them all out an returned them the next day. Then got a call second week in October asking me to go in for a scan and hubby to do another semen. Did them last week in Oct and made doctor appointment while there for 3rd week in Nov (would have been earlier but was on holiday).

Had that appointment last week where we got told we can start IVF on first day of next period (we are delaying a month b/c of Christmas). I do have a known reason, so not sure if you were unexplained it would move that quick.

Sorry about the long post - not sure you need all those details??

lildottie · 27/11/2014 22:46

Vic amazing you have a vague idea of dates now. hope dh perks up about it all. just lay off that year old mulled wine in preparation!

metal so relieved for you. we finally seem to be getting good news on here!

lady my referral wasn't as fast as landys. we went to Dr last Dec, had day21 in Jan, dh did an sa in Jan and one in Feb then we were referred. had 1st appt 1/4, us scan same month, hcg had to be delayed a month as we were in hol, had that in June. saw consultant 17/7 and advised icsi because of sperm issues. had appt with nurse 8/10 to ve told details of treatment, also got dates of injections starting, follicle scans etc. AF came 15/11, started bcp 17/11 and I will be on it until 27/12. first injection 28/12. so from first seeing Dr to starting treatment has been a year for us, despite our clinic being listed as no waiting list in hfea website. hopefully you will have landys experience though!

victoria401 · 28/11/2014 12:21

Hi Landy I'm not having ivf but iui, we will still be cycle buddies though and I still need to inject and have my follicles scanned etc, there will be no egg collection for me though, just sperm insertion! lol

Lady my referral was very much like lil's We started with bloods for me in Feb, SA for dh in April and Aug. The referral happened in July I think with our first appointment the start of Sept after I had to have repeat bloods as the Feb ones were too old. I had a HSG in Sept from the clinic and a follow up in Oct where they offered us treatment.

metal great news about the partially paid for op! And coming up so soon too!

Oops Vic - thought your were going straight for IVF. Do you get iui and ivf on nhs? My council or whoever do the funding gives you 3 iui or 1 ivf. Think they are quite stingey.

It appears that my hospital is the only one that doesn't do this HSG. I did ask the doc about it and I think she said they could see enough from the scan that tubes were not blocked (I don't really believe her - I think they just like to be fast so miss stuff out)! Also not sure if it makes a difference but I'm with a dedicated assisted conception unit rather than a gynaecology dept.

xBlueberry88x · 28/11/2014 15:35

Afternoon Ladies,

Vicky Wow good to have a plan now how exciting I cant wait to hear you have a bfp!!

Metal Thats great news im glad they are helping you its so much money otherwise!!

Lady My referral was about the same I had 3 months of day 21 tests through gp who referred me when they could see I wasnt ovulating. About a month later I had gynae appointment he did internal scan on the day and asked lots of questions and then booked me in for more blood tests (day 21 and day 3), a hsg and asked me to lose some weight and made an appointment in 3 months to come back. At that point they were sure I wasnt ovulating and I got clomid now

Af due on Sunday and ive had a pretty weird cycle. Period was different and ive had creamy cm internally since ovulation which ive never had and nausea earlier than I normally get it but it could just be the clomid. Im starting to worry that its never going to happen argh

victoria401 · 28/11/2014 15:53

I still have high hopes for you this month blue! Not long now until you know! Can't believe how these last 4 weeks have flown by!

landy it was confirmed yesterday that I can have 3 iui and then still have the 1 ivf. She gave me the option yesterday of just going straight for the ivf but she said she's rather her patients got preg in the most natural way possible and said I should have the iui with the ivf attempt to fall back on if they didn't work. Also if you are going straight for the ivf if wouldn't matter if your tubes were blocked, that only matters if you were going for iui. People with no tubes at all can have ivf. Don't worry :-)

Thanks Vicky ive been excitedly symptom spotting the whole tww and now im just worrying

If this cycle doesnt work I really need to get back into exercising otherwise ill be huge after christmas!

cooperG · 28/11/2014 18:15

Good news about bupa metal :)
Hope everyone else is ok, we seem a bit more positive recently Smile
I'm giving the clomid a miss this month, we're really busy this month and don't want to take it if we end up not dtd-ing enough, so will start again next cycle.
Have a good weekend everyone WineBrewFlowers

victoria401 · 30/11/2014 12:49

Oh by the way, asked the doc about the low morphology and iui. I said I was worried about putting my bod through the crap to have a 2% morph or worse on the day, especially since dh has been on antibiotics and steroids for his chest lately. She said they don't actually look at the sperm sample on the day! So we'd never know if it was shite and what are chances are! Very interesting. She did take my concern seriously though and dh is having a detailed sa the week before we are due to start in Jan to make sure things look ok at that point. But still!

Hi all. I need positive vibes please!!!!!

shandrexx · 30/11/2014 14:20

Ttc for more than 2 years now. Been on 6 cycles of clomid. Only ovulating 3 of the 6 months. No luck at all. Dr wanted to put me on 50mg x 3 per day for another 6 monthsConfused i get a little sick on clomid and im worries about the side effects in the long run!so i havnt started to next 6 months. I did not take clomid last month but im 12 days late this month already!Shock will urine preg test pick it up?

Ladyboluna · 30/11/2014 15:14

Thanks lil, vic and landy, sounds like for most people taking the test/ivi/ivf route takes a long time. How long were you all trying for before you started down that route?

Also, did all you ladies have your day 21 bloods repeated? I was trying to make an appointment to see my GP for my first set of blood results when I got the letter saying they wanted my progesterone repeated. I'm concerned that that means I'm not ovulating - it wouldn't be a total surprise as my mother had to take clomid to get me. I've been using the CBFM however and that says I am ovulating - but I guess that's a different hormone as thats the LH?

Ladyboluna · 30/11/2014 15:16

shan If you're 12 days late and pregnant then a test will almost definitely be positive by now. Good luck!

xBlueberry88x · 30/11/2014 15:23

Lady my gp did 3 months worth of day 21 and then gynae did one to....they need to compare a few months. Everyone has cycles where they dont ovulate every once in a while so I wouldnt worry to much. And even if you arent ovulating like me they will try you on clomid

Shandre Im on clomid to only second month in but ive not heard of long term side effects. I was worried about the side effects to but for me its worth it if I get my bfp. Pregnancy tests can show a bfp before af is due so it'll definitely show after 12 days!

Vicky weird they dont check the sperm you would think they would but at least he's being checked a week before

Ladyboluna · 30/11/2014 15:48

Blue thanks, how are you finding taking clomid? Have you found the process frustrating at all (the medical help side)?

lildottie · 30/11/2014 15:50

lady I only had one test. cbfm and opks only detect the LH surge which can happen without ovulation. if you want to confirm ovulation you need to chart your waking temperature using a bbt thermometer.

shandre If you are 12days late pg is possible and poas would detect it, but its also possible you haven't ovulated and that's why you are "late", especially if you've stopped the clomid as that will have had an effect in your " normal " cycles. fx its a bfp though.

Vic I'm glad they took you seriously. do they literally just take the whole sample and put it all up high in iui? I'd have thought they'd have sorted the sample to make sure the best ones go in without hinderance if the duff ones?

2weeks done and I have 4 weeks to go on bcp. tomorrow is the month I start my ivf cycle! Grin

Ladyboluna · 30/11/2014 15:59

Lil have you ever done temping? Can you advice where to best get started/look for info?

I don't want to be obsessive but I feel like I don't have any control at the moment Sad. Using CBFM as well might be too much but by the sound of it temping is more accurate.

Sparrowlegs248 · 30/11/2014 16:47

Hello ladies, hope its ok to join back in. I have been absent for quite a while but Feel the need to be back here now things are moving along a bit. I had normal day 21 tests, DHs SA was very good apart from morphology which was 3% but the other figures were very high. We had our first appointment at the fertility clinic last week, inc unexpected dildo cam!!

Consultant requested a second SA for DH, and day 3 tests & hsg for me.

In the meantime, I'm 2 - 4 days late!! didn't note down last months AF!! Idiot. Will test tomorrow if AF not turned up. Testing the law of sod.....

Glad to see your progress Vic and Metal.

xBlueberry88x · 30/11/2014 17:02

Lady clomid is ok not to many side effects. To be honest I knew it would take a while and id rather they were thorough. Temping is good if you sleep for 4 hours uninterrupted you take your temp (vaginally is best) as soon as you wake up before you get out of bed. input data into fertility friend and itll make a graph for you. your temp will go up when you ovulate but you need 3 consecutive temp rises to confirm ovulation. You can it thermometers online think theres one called baby mad

welcome back notta dildo cam on first appointment is normal although not nice good to see everything is looking normal so far. fx for bfp
