This is a thread for ladies who have been ttc longer than 10 months who have started the ball rolling with tests and treatments. We are all here to support each other though these darker days to the baby shaped light at the end of the tunnel!

Thanks for the welcome ladies. Yes, mam, that's what i gured. We would have had to be incredibly lucky to get pregnant when I have endo if there was also a problem with his sperm. Fingers crossed the test agrees!

Sorry to hear about your mc, metal. It's very difficult and it just makes it so much worse when you can't get pregnant again quickly.

Congratulations, MrsE. Nice to see some good news!

bezzathebug · 07/10/2014 15:50

Figured not gured, whatever that means!

Metalhead · 07/10/2014 16:16

Ah, that's great news MrsE! Sorry I didn't see your post earlier, many congratulations! I'll definitely be getting some soy for next cycle Smile.

maybug3 · 07/10/2014 16:25

Congratulations mrse.
Lil - Thank you for your thoughts on ivf. Feeling pretty low about it and that made me cry in a good way - Thanks.

I'm still lurking and wishing you all well on your journeys. Still waiting for dh appointment with urologist at end of month before we can then start the ivf treatment we need.

Nonconformist34 · 07/10/2014 16:59

Huge congrats MrsE I think you've boosted the sales of soy isoflavones across the country as I think we're all going to try it!

Bezza Our fertility referral took about two months but once we got in to the clinic, the appointments on average have only being less than two weeks apart. I imagine you'll hear from them soon, also I would maybe ring your GP practice to ensure the referral was sent (we are talking about the NHS here!).

lildottie · 07/10/2014 16:59

hi may glad it helped...but no more tears! Thanks

bezzathebug · 07/10/2014 18:27

I've already frantically googled soya isoflavones! Smile

Thanks non. I have already checked the referral was made as I don't trust them either. They said it can be a wait of 6 months or more for an initial appointment in our neck of the woods (Cardiff).

MrsExtraOrdinary · 07/10/2014 18:42

Well if anyone's interested in my dosage, first cycle I did cycle days 3-7, starting at 120mg increasing to 200mg by the end of the 5 days. Took in the evening before bed. I had a raging af it was dreadful, but gave me spot on 28 day cycle. Next cycle I tried days 2-6, with the same increasing dose. Dh took double zinc this cycle too. I also reduced canine down to 1 coffee a day, no tea or other drinks.

MrsExtraOrdinary · 07/10/2014 18:43
  • the would be caffeine! Blush
MrsExtraOrdinary · 07/10/2014 18:45

Mine were tescos own brand cost about £2, I think! There are risks though so it's not for everyone. It does say can make endo worse and cause hypothyroidism. Well I took the risk, it did make the endo worse, but regular. My cycles were becoming ridiculously long. And I already have hypothyroidism, so thought what the hell. Maybe a bit reckless! But got to the point id try anything.

Lauraqc · 07/10/2014 18:51

Amazing news MrsExtra congratulations! And welcome Bezza!

victoria401 · 07/10/2014 19:44

Congrats mrsE!

Welcome to the gang bezza sorry to hear you've also been having bad luck in the crapness that is ttc.

I'm cacking myself about tomorrow now. Was up half the night thinking about it. I am having second thoughts about assisted conception too. I don't know if I want to fill myself with meds and go through a load of emotional crapness. I'm actually now hoping he does say I need a lap to look for endo and maybe get rid of it if its there so we can plod on and if its meant to be it will happen. Argh!

NEWBIE ALERT!!

Thanks for the direction Blueberry

So I'm 32 TTC 22 Cycles!

I feel like I have entered a whole new world,,,remembering back to teenage years and being given the birds and bees letcure and the whole - "it only takes 1 time" speech,,,,yeah right!! So when me and the OH decide to throw out the contraception and start TTC I thought this would be the fun bit lots of fun DTD,,,Dare I say it,,,I actually was happy I didn't get the BFP in the first 5/6 cycles, we were enjoying and appreciating the excitement of wondering when, would be be parents before our next birthdays, before christmas, will I/won't I need to get a 2nd wedding dress! TTC is no longer carefree process I naively thought it it would be!

I feel a bit stupid for leaving it so long in finding out whats going on (head in sand syndrome).

And advice on what info to take along to an initial GP meeting?
Any questions that you later wished that you had asked earlier etc.

Lindsay81 · 08/10/2014 08:19

Yayyyy MrsE!! Wonerful news, much love to you and your growing family xo

Hi KL24 :-) You are at a very similar stage to a lot of us. I have also been off birth control for 22 cycles, although I would say we have been "trying" for 16 months. The GP should be quite open to moving forward with the tests quite quickly, due to it being nearly 2 years. The two most important checks are:

  1. Blood test for you at 7 days before your next period starts (Day 21 if you have a 28 day cycle). This will measure progesterone and it should be at it's highest now, if you are ovulating well.
They may also do a blood test at day 3 for some other hormones (e.g. FSH) to get an idea of ovarian reserve.
  1. Sperm analysis for DH. Count, normal sperm, motility etc etc. Best to get this done ASAP as it really is one of the most important tests. Embarrassing, but they just need to suck it up and get on with it ;-)
  1. Ultrasound for you to check your ovaries, uterus etc are all present and correct :)
  1. HSG for you. Some dye is squirted up your vajayjay and they follow it to make sure your tubes are open LOL I think this is the only one for us that is a bit uncomfortable (unless you don't like needles!). Mine is due to be next month.

Hope this helps!

Lindsay81 · 08/10/2014 08:20

LOL... I just realised I said the two most important checks and then proceeded to give you 4. Morning brain!

Metalhead · 08/10/2014 08:32

Sorry AF got you blue, and three days late as well the bitch! Hopefully the clomid will do the trick for you.

Good luck for today vic and lil, let us know how you get on.

Welcome KL, I think lindsay has already given you a very good list there! Depending on how clued up your GP is you might have to have a few progesterone tests - I'm having my third this week as I don't have a textbook cycle and so the first was taken before I'd ovulated, the second just 1dpo and now I'm finally getting on at 7dpo when it should be done. (I didn't ov until CD32 this cycle which confused the poor man... still, at least he's been very helpful when I've explained how these things work! Grin)

lildottie · 08/10/2014 09:00

hi kl I'd only add the my us and hsg weren't done by gp, they were done by fertility clinic after we were referred. sa was arranged by gp but sample taken to hospital. If gp tells you to take it to them to send to lab they are ordering wrong test! sa has to be at lab within an hour of producing.
also I wouldn't bother getting into "day21" argument with go. just book it once you know you've ov that cycle if you can. do you use opks or temp at all?

don't expect gp to have a clue. they often don't. when they ask how long ttc just say 2years not 22cycles. that way you won't have to explain to them they don't have to wait until the 2year mark to do the initial tests! gl!
