A very friendly and supportive thread for those taking way longer than they had ever expected to make a baby.

OP posts:
GinSoaked · 11/10/2012 08:48

Oh sar, sorry to hear you are having a tough time, but it is v much expected and please do give yourself a break. You only found out 2 weeks ago that the FET didn't work -that's no time at all. Look after yourself and do give yourself time to grieve. Big hugs. I hope you have some nice, relaxing things planned for the weekend.

I had an ivf nightmare last night. They kept me waiting for ages for EC and then there were like 20 medical staff in there, watching as some kind of training exercise. No one was listening to me or telling me what was happening. I woke up just as I was about to kick off about it!! Like your dream sar, I guess it's an anxiety one.

Waves and luffs to everyone else. Will post updated stats later. Gotta get off the train now!

MissMedusa · 11/10/2012 11:08

dipping toe back in the TTC pool . . .
I've missed you ladies so much.

Mrsden, 31. Dh 32. Ttc for 27 months. Dh has very low count and poor morphology. First gynae said I have pcos but new one doesn't think I do. However, I'm pretty sure I don't ovulate every month. Now we're all ready for ivf, we're going to start in december.

euro, 36, the bloke is 37. TTC properly for 24 cycles with a casual approach to contraception for a long while before that. We are "unexplained" although I did have high NK cells when tested last year. Had 3xsuperovulation cycles, 2xIUI and 1xvery failed IVF cycle (stopped halfway through because I couldn't tolerate the drugs). Now back to au naturel ttc with some acu. Contemplating mild/natural IVF in early 2013.

princesschick 30, DH 34. TTC actively for 24 months over 3.5 year period, BFP Oct '12. Previously unexplained, bobbly right ovary, borderline progesterone @ 7DPO test (30.2), 2 MCs at 6wks (June '09 and May '11). Have been embracing the brown diet, woo and life coaching to 'chill out'. Now have my FX for Sea Monkey III.

critter 32, DH 33. TTC for 18 months, no ovulation at all (apart from a single clomid-and-hcg-trigger-induced one this summer). PCOS and post-pill amenorrhea. Six cycles of clomid, one cycle of injectibles cancelled because of overstimming and risk of octomom-style multiples. DH all fine. Moving onto IVF this winter.

MissMedusa 33, DH 39. TTC for 14 months. Me: dermoid tumour on ovary removed May '12. Him: asthenoteratospermia (low motility/morphology) but most recent SA came back normal after a course of Tamoxifen, Wellman tablets and healthy living. 1 BFP which ended in MC Sept. '12. We have decided to continue trying naturally for at least the next 6 months.

mrsden · 11/10/2012 11:26

Good to have you back with us miss m. I think trying for another 6 months before more help sounds like a good plan for you if your dh has improved sperm. Is he still taking tamoxifen?

I suffer with anxiety dreams too so i can sympathise gin and Sar. I'm ok at the moment, but I expect they'll come back when I get to December and the start of ivf.

How annoying about the clash buzzy, but it's great news your dh has an interview. Would you be comfortable going on your own?

Ive been preoccupied with non ttc stuff and I was even thinking that getting pregnant now would be a bit inconvenient because of stuff coming up. I think I'm subconsciously hoping for a sods law bfp.

Thanks for doing the updates. We all move so fast I find it hard to remember what stage were all at.

eurowitch · 11/10/2012 11:33

Oh buzz how annoying! Can he change it? It's not unusual in my experience for the interviewee to have to move an interview because they can't say to their boss "I can't do that meeting because I have an interview" - it's the interview that has to move.

sarlat at least you have a diagnosis and know now that it is not contagious, but how annoying. I think it is time to really try to take care of yourself, forget about ttc as far as possible for a few weeks, and inject some fun back into your life.

Welcome back missm

My anxiety dreams always involve spiders.

MissMedusa · 11/10/2012 11:36

Yes, he's still taking them. We'll never know if they're what made the difference but they may well have been and he had no negative side effects.

buzzybee123 · 11/10/2012 12:28

welcome back medusa

I have changed the appointment to Friday, the job interview isn't in London so couldn't do both in a day. He has said he would like to come along, euro some places don't care if you can't make the interview, its just tough luck for you, which is crap, I had that with the NHS, they are not very flexi with it all.

I have lots of dreams about work Hmm counting down the days 8 until I move positions

eurowitch · 11/10/2012 12:32

That rubbish, buzzy. In my field it is generally taken as a sign of being terribly important! I'm glad you have managed to move the appointment back just a few days.

Eletheomel · 11/10/2012 13:18

Eletheomel, me 40, DH 35, TTC No2 for 21 months (took 3 years of ttc to get No1) unexplained subfertility, we're just a lot slower than most other people. I've had one failed IVF before No 1 arrived, and since ttc No2, I've had one miscarriage at 10 weeks (last May) and maybe 1 chemical pg since then (until current BFP - here's hoping it goes the course - not much time left on my biological clock!)

Wow, so much progress with everybody's IVF - will be keeping my fingers crossed for some successful BFP stories round about xmas.

Glad you got the appointment changed Buzzy but how crap about it falling on the same day as the interview - and I know what you mean about places being inflexible about interview dates, places where I've worked have generally picked a day that suits the interviewers and the interviewees just have to fit in - I can see their point, but it's crap if there is a genuine reason why someone can't make it.

Princess so with you on the 12 ww, I've had my scan date through for 18th November which quite frankly seems an eternity to wait. I mean obviously if its bad news I might get some signs before then, but I can't believe how slowly time is going just now. When I went for a blood test last week, the nurse was saying how the next 9 months will just fly by and I was thinking, No, clearly this will be the longest slowest time period I've ever experienced - every minute is glacial!!!

freedom2011 · 11/10/2012 14:48

I'm 34, dh 39. TTC #1 - too long. yesterday I went to the clinic to see if I've managed to grow an egg this month. I feel like a less-than-golden goose. Nothing yet so I got sent home to take more drugs and try and coax this egg into existence so we can go for IUI mark II.

I am very pleased to see the positives on the post. Gives me hope.

ArtemisTheHunter · 11/10/2012 16:42

Hi all

Quick post while I wait for the printer to churn out a pile of crap carefully crafted document. Hugs to those feeling meh and fingers crossed those beans stay sticky for Princess and Eleth. It must feel like the longest wait in history.

Well our payment went through OK at the appointment this week, I've signed a million forms so assuming my scan tomorrow morning shows I've ovulated I will be taught to shoot up and will be officially into IVF... eek. Collecting the massive stack of drugs from the pharmacy made it all feel real, and quite scary.

Adding my stats...

Sarlat, me 32, DH 48. TTC 30 months. BFP after first month of TTC. Ended in mc at 5.5 weeks. Nothing since. DH boderline / normal SA. In Jan 2012, discovered partially bloked and possibly swollen fallopian tubes at HSG - likely caused by mc or endo. No symptoms of either. May 2012, IVF resulting in BFN and FET natural cycle Sept 2012, BFN. Waiting to see if we go ahead with another FET.

Hello everyone!

Critter I love the sound of the helpful doctor, and Joy your acu sounds wonderful. As does your dream. I am sorry to hear about others' anxiety dreams - those are so horrible. I have so few dreams about pregnancy/motherhood that they feel really special somehow when they do happen. This week I dreamt I was heavily pregnant, all nonchalant-like, while dealing with something else at work. It was so strange when I woke up, to think that it could seem a background, everyday thing in the dream when it can feel quite all-consuming at times in my waking life. I think I need to try to stop mentalling about it all a bit. So I've stopped charting as I think that was just making me anxious and affecting my sleep, and I usually know when I'm about to ovulate anyway, so it wasn't adding any useful info.

I'm sorry you've been having a tough time of it sar and rabbit. I'm faithfully keeping my fingers crossed for eleth and princess - such good news about the progesterone levels! And good luck to all the upcoming IVFers! I'm sure there'll be even more BFPs along soon, which will be wonderful.

A few days into the 2 week menkul for me. I suppose this month I had a few more days of EWCM than last month, and a bit of an extra interest in putting that to good effect, which I think the hubs appreciated! So we'll see. Trying firmly to stick to the idea that I'm doing all this looking after myself properly for my general wellbeing, BFP being just a wonderful added bonus if it happens, but, not always successful with that line of thinking!

I'll add my info to the list:

Mrsden, 31. Dh 32. Ttc for 27 months. Dh has very low count and poor morphology. First gynae said I have pcos but new one doesn't think I do. However, I'm pretty sure I don't ovulate every month. Now we're all ready for ivf, we're going to start in december.

After posting that I just realised (I'd forgotten?! repression/denial is a wonderful thing) that my last BFP was when I'd just turned 30. I guess my ovaries really gave up after that, just like I was warned they would. Hmm

I had loads to say, but need to get on and do some work, so I'll leave you with some freshly baked carrot cake with vanilla icing (it's hmm trust me) and the knowledge that I think of you lot too much but have been out and about a lot this week, again!

mrsden · 12/10/2012 09:20

Quick post To say morning to everyone. The updates make interesting reading, we have a mixed bag of situations but I think the emotions are the same.

I spent some of yesterday with a friend and her 18 month old. I'm usually ok with them but yesterday it made me feel quite sad when I saw how clingy she was to her mum and thinking that I might never have that. Also, the conversation was very one sided because all she talks about is her dd. I can only ask questions and nod and smile when she talks, it's made me realise that old relationships will probably end if I dont have children.

I'm on cd31 with no sign of af yet, I think she's going to turn up next week when I have a very manic schedule at work and it will be an af from hell. I'm due one of those as theyve been pain free for many months now.

TeuchterWahine · 12/10/2012 10:33

Mrsden, 31.

Freedom I'm 34, dh 39. TTC #1 - too long. yesterday I went to the clinic to see if I've managed to grow an egg this month. I feel like a less-than-golden goose. Nothing yet so I got sent home to take more drugs and try and coax this egg into existence so we can go for IUI mark II.

Artemis me 38, DP 41, ttc too bloody long about 30 months with 1 mc at 6 weeks March 2011. All tests fine so we are technically unexplained. 5 months of clomid did nothing so I am now reluctantly and nervously starting self-funded IVF. On the waiting list for an NHS round next year if this one doesn't work

Waiting to see if we go ahead with another FET.

teu, 36, DH 38, TTC 17 months, only just starting investigations. Day 3 & 21 bloods 'normal', waiting on DHs SA to complete public system referral.

TeuchterWahine · 12/10/2012 10:53

Morning ladies. Sorry, been dotting in and out but not posting. So much going on on here.
buzzy so pleased you have Kayla, I was getting very worried about you. Glad MrB has an interview and you are off to Create.
princess congrats! I hope the seamonkey sticks.
Doll you have one cool little boy.
A bit Envy about the meet up.

Got an email from an old friend tonight while MrTeu was out getting curry. She had a baby on Wednesday, I didn't even know she was pg. She was at our Do in January. Poor MrTeu when he got back. Told him I felt useless; even if my d21 progesterone suggested I did ov this month we obviously can't get it right. He suggested perhaps we are like Pandas. I'd been feeling pretty good all week too. More important to support another friend who is going through a mc. Second one this year at about the same week point. This all sucks big time at the moment.
Waves and luffs, ladies.

rabbitonthemoon · 12/10/2012 11:57

Working like a crazy loon but big wave and proper catch up at the weekend and big chomp on lemons cake nom nom. I do feel like a panda! Here is my ridiculous story.

rabbit 35 dh 33 on 19th cycle of ttc, almost 2 years in real time, derailed by a small op and a big op to hunt down a mammoth fibroid that turned out to have vanished like a thief in the night. According to latest batch of tests we should be fertile but clearly we aren't. But these are now a year old. Plans for three cycles of clomid in the New Year, then IUI, then ivf in the summer. Or maybe not, it scares the pants off me.

I've been pink spotting now since Monday and today it has entirely gone. Just waiting for it to re-emerge in technicolor glory. Trying to love my womble but she doesnt make it easy. I have awful backache too. If I was part of the fertile population I might even be curious. Instead I'm just carrying Tampax everywhere.

joycep · 12/10/2012 13:52

Hi ladies.

It?s been a bit hair raising at work, dodging bullets and so thankful i still have a job as job =money for ivf. I hope to hang on in there.

Rabbit ? I understand that after all this time there would be no hope but you are having v odd suspicious symptoms and i can only hope that a bfp comes and bites you up the bottom one day soon. and yes that book is so soothing and it makes me in awe of people who go through so much in their life yet handle it with such fortitude. Amazing.

Teu ? we are all a bit like Pandas on here. At least that makes us special and not like everyone else who seem to breed like rodents. But i?m sorry about your friend and also about your other friend?s announcement.

Mrsd ? you are going to have a clingy baby on you one day and by that stage your friend?s child will be being vile because it would have learnt to speak.

Hello Rum ? I found my life was less anxious when i gave up charting . Although it was incredibly helpful and in a way reassuring but I honestly could look at one stupid temperature and think about it for the rest of the day, mentalling about its meaning. I will never say never as I?m likely to go back to it one day.

Gin ? i?m sorry about the ivf nightmare. I have had many of them and i won?t be starting for a few months yet. I am just hoping that this ivf is going to be hundred times better for you.

Sarlat ? sorry about your viral infection. I agree your fertility doctors should be interested in this. I?m so sorry about the anxiety and mentalling setting in at night. It?s horrible but I have to say that Dr Beer book is probably not good for bed time reading as i found I was having sleepless nights mentalling after reading Beer. We have all probably become victims of too much information but it?s hard not to when you feel like you are in this alone. I was talking to my acu about how I could possibly put my brain to rest on all this and she said try writing your fears and anxieties down when it creeps up on you. i don?t know whether you would find this helpful. I know all these things like writing it down and being mindful are well and good because when the fear grips you, nothing seem to shake it off. I hope you have a nice relaxing weekend planned and at least something to look forward to.

Princess ? fantastic news on your progesterone levels. Go sea monkey go! I look forward to brushing myself against you next week and catching some of that baby dust.

Af will be here for me either tomorrow or Sun. I am hoping for a last chance miraculous bfp so i don?t have to go under the knife. Hahaha , now what do they say, there?s no fool like an old fool.

Rabbit, hmmmm, that does sound interesting, how many dpo are you?

Joy, I'm glad you've dodged the bullets, are they making people redundant then? They're always threatening us with redundancy, which is why I've applied for a new job.

The second pregnancy announcements have started now. One today has made me sad. She has only been back off maternity leave for one month and now she's 3 months pregnant again. What makes it worse is she's telling everyone that she planned it because she hates work so much so wanted as little time in work in between. It really bothers me that other people can plan like this. Is it me, or is there a bit of a trend at the moment to have babies really close together?
