TTC first baby

Hello all! DH and I are TTC our first baby, I'm 31, he's 32. We've only been trying for a month so it is extremely early days but I'm so excited at the prospect.

DH may have some fertility issues (picked up on a scan) but I was pretty convinced it was going to be a BFP straight away as I had so many symptoms - but that shows how much I know! Blush

Is anyone else TTC their first baby? Please join and keep me company!!

Hi 3littlebirds and rodeo!
Mrsbugsy how late in your cycle did you OV? Glad to know i might not be alone.

Tmi alert Blush Mines a 30day cycle and I hv seen a lot of watery CM. no ewcm. Today on CD17 but I hv a feeling OV will be around CD21,22 or 23.

Might invest in the sticks next month not feeling too hopeful this month.

KickingUpQuestions · 12/05/2012 17:33

Can i join too?

I am 30 and DH is 31. Neither of us smoke. Both exercise. DH is very fit and doesn't touch alcohol. i have gone off it in that week or two. We have been TTC unofficially for 10th months and doing the official ovation testing for 8 months.

my cycles are dead regular at 28 days.

i was quite sure about this month. i took clear blue test this morning and 98% of people get a + the day before AF. i got a negative so sure AF will be here tomorrow.

i was on the pill for 4 monthswith DH. i stopped it a year ago when we decided to clear out my system. of the 4 months worth of the pill. i have been on the pills 5 times in my life. for 3 months at a time. one to get rid of my first ever cyst after my myomectomy op.

i had ovulation spotting at CD17 and all the symptoms and am just fed up today. and sad.

3littlebirds · 12/05/2012 19:09

Hi KickingUpQuestions, keep positive for the next couple of days, you never know, shall keep everything crossed for you. Sounds like you guys are doing everything you should be. Not sure what ovulation testing you're doing - is it detecting peaks in your cycle? So annoying that you can't plan exactly when these things happen - I guess we just need to keep smiling, try not to stress, keep healthy (have you read all the stuff on what you should be eating etc?) and try not to let it take over. Fingers crossed AF doesn't arrive in the next couple of days, keep your chin up x

Pinkie29 · 12/05/2012 20:04

3littlebirds - im pretty fascinated with all the stuff to track cycles and get us all preggers! How did our mothers and grandmothers cope without all this help?!

Fx I won't need it either Grin I was going to eBay my opks have about 50 of them but will hang on until I've got my monitor up and running

3littlebirds · 12/05/2012 20:34

haha, guessing they got cracking earlier, didn't leave such stressful lives....and probably weren't such control freaks! ...all fair and well knowing when you are ovulating, just want the deed to work now!

Pinkie29 · 12/05/2012 21:31

Defo nothing wrong with giving nature a hoping hand Smile

I hate the 2ww and the first few days of af im a nightmare poor dp!

Kittenkatzen · 12/05/2012 23:26

Hi everyone can I join too please?

I'm 32, DH 30. We've been talking about TTC for a while and have finally decided to go for it, in a kind of stop preventing it and see what happens kind of way. Well, for him at least - of course I'm slightly more obsessed enthusiastic about it :o so I'm hoping that talking with you ladies will help me to keep a serene exterior in RL and not scare DH witless so early in the proceedings!

mrsbugsywugsy · 13/05/2012 11:35

Hello to Kittenkatzen, 3littlebirds and Kickingupquestions (and anyone else I've missed)!

Kitten just like you, my DP has no idea how obsessed I am, as far as he's concerned he's just enjoying getting lots more sex than he's used to. He is really up for the idea of being a dad, but its just not in his nature to get obsessed by things.

Kicking I think four months on the pill is really nothing, I was on it for 17 years, and fingers crossed my ovaries don't seem to have packed in Grin

redstrawberry I think I usually ov on day 14 but this month it wasn't until day 18 as I had some cramps and spotting. However my cycles are probably still settling down post-pill. So should I expect AF on Wednesday (based on length of last cycle) or Sunday (based on days after ov)?

I am feeling quite hormonal so wouldn't be surprised if it came along on Wednesday.

3littlebirds · 13/05/2012 15:37

Hi kittenkatzen, welcome! I am the same as you, but doesn't sound like I'm hiding it as well as you!!

mrsbugsywugsy - I don't know the actual answer but my head says goes with the latter then less for you to fret about. Fingers crossed hormones are for another erason :)

QueenOfTheRodeo · 13/05/2012 16:28

Hi ladies, I've posted this on another thread too so apologies in advance for those who may read it twice Grin

I tested yesterday at 11DPO - BFN. Today I really wanted to test again but didn't have any HPTs left so used an OPK instead which came up positive straight away with a really dark line. According to google this either means I'm pregnant or that I'm having a last minute LH surge prior to AF. So all I can do is wait it out but was wondering if any of you has any experience of using OPKs as HPTs?

Those of you who are hiding your obsession from DH - count me in! I haven't told my DH about the OPK test as he'll think I've finally lost it! Smile

queenofthefairies · 13/05/2012 16:56

Hello EveryoneSmile Can I join?

I'm 29 (almost 30) and my DP is 32 we have been trying to conceive our 1st baby for a while too. Won't bore you with my whole story as I've put it in another post and don't wish to be boring and repetitive....but I'm TTC with clomid and trying to follow a diet that's good for keeping a steady blood sugar level.

My DP and I are total control freaks too; we have researched many things to help aid conception. We swear by our clearblue fertility monitor and tried using a cap after Dtd last month to keep the semen in last month.... We got pregnant but sadly miscarried after a few days.

So we shall be using the disposable vaginal caps again this month as I really think it helped. Sperm live for 7 days if inside the body! We Dtd every other night for a week and I left the cap in for 24hours after each deed, so effectively I figured I had live sperm in my vaginal cannel for the majority of the week. The instructions say only to leave in for 12 hours- however I was reluctant so my compromise was 24hours rather than the full 48hours between each dtd.

To the mucus twins- the stringy egg white like mucus is a fantastic sign! It's effectively a mucus 'ladder' that helps the sperm get upto the cervix.

3littlebirds · 13/05/2012 17:01

Hey QueenOfTheRodeo and QueenofTheFairies (lots of queens today!). So sorry to hear about the miscarriage Fairies, truly awful. Glad to see you're keeping your chin up. I've never even heard of the vaginal caps, where do you get such a thing?! Sounds like a gerat idea. Afraid I can't help re OPKs etc either Rodeo, I'm only using the Clear Blue monitor. Best of luck ladies!!!

Kittenkatzen · 13/05/2012 17:17

Thanks for the welcome messages - so nice to know I'm not the only one hiding the obsession from DH! Like bugsywugsy my DH is up for the idea of TTC but is definitely just happy n with the extra sex right now!. I think if I started trying to discuss OPKs and vaginal caps with him he might do an actual runner! :o

It's very early days for us so I'm afraid I don't have any advice on the questions re OPKs etc. Will be keeping an eye on the answers with interest though :)

queenofthefairies · 13/05/2012 17:23

Hi 3birds

I bought them online from a website selling equipment for home artificial insemination. They are called soft cups and cost £1 each but you can apparently wash them and re-use... I threw mine in the bin and used a new one each time but that's not essential.

They were originally designed for Eco-friendly women who think using tampons hurt the earth so they use them to catch their periods.... although worth getting them from a fertility/home insemination website as they need to be made of a sperm friendly plastic!

QueenOfTheRodeo · 13/05/2012 17:28

The caps sound like a great idea, might look into getting some if we're unlucky this month Smile

mrsbugsywugsy · 13/05/2012 19:23

is it the same as a mooncup, fairies? I was thinking of getting one of them anyway, now that I have my periods back (after being on cerazette).

I have a horribly busy week next week so will pretend not to won't have time to notice whether my period is late

Could I ask a slightly grim question. For those who have EWCM, is it easy to distinguish it from, ahem, male deposits, if you are DTD every couple of days around ov time?

Pinkie29 · 13/05/2012 19:27

Welcome queen and fairies Grin

Queen so sorry to hear of your loss hopefully you'll get lucky this month.

We tried instead soft cups with conceive plus last month kept them in 12hrs sadly no luck I think we caught my ov too late (cd28) I got a cb smiley after testing when I got what i thought was af cramps! What site did you get the cups on?

Pinkie29 · 13/05/2012 19:31

Bugsy - I think it depends on what your dps deposits usually look like? My dp has white medium consistency my ewcm was very clear and stretchy, tho the day before I think I ovd it was like under cooked ew! I'm taking epo to try improve things.

Queenoffaries- how are you finding the monitor? I just ordered one off eBay for next cycle.

Birds - you can order instead softcups from eBay and amazon

queenofthefairies · 13/05/2012 19:46

Mrs Bugsy- soft cups and moon cups are the same thing just different names. Although I would check if moon cups are made from a sperm friendly plastic as they are primarily marketed to deal with periods.

I just googled and got a plethora of sites selling them

Pinkie- I think the monitor is really good! Its simple to use and seems to be accurate as we've double checked my ovulation with other tests.

Pinkie29 · 13/05/2012 19:55

Great cant wait to start mine, although lets hope I don't have to and get lucky Grin

I found the cups on a site www.insemination-help.com/insemination_products_2.html%23

Cheaper than eBay and amazon and identical to the ones I bought

mrsbugsywugsy · 14/05/2012 22:16

Thanks Fairies and Pinkie - I haven't noticed any ewcm but wondered if it could be getting mixed up with said deposits.

I'm not sure about the soft cups as surely the sperm needs to go a bit higher than the cervix to be any use? Unless you are lying down then gravity will pull it in the wrong direction and it will just sit in the cup?

Today I had some spotting - not sure if this means AF is on its way, or something else

Pinkie29 · 14/05/2012 22:29

Bugsy - there was a link to another site with some women swearing by the cups and conceive plus I'll try find it tomorrow, I guess the logic is it stops the swimmers running down your leg after dtd and holds them at the cervix? I kept my legs in the air for an hour while dp slept (not that it worked last time but we only just caught the end of my lh surge after thinking I'd ovd earlier in the month!

3littlebirds · 15/05/2012 20:43

Hi all, sorry for silence.
Thanks for link fairies, sounds like a good idea. As the Tesco lady says, every little helps! Bugsy, were you due about tomorrow or was that someone else? Hopefully spotting is "something else"! Fingers crossed.
Pinkie, fingers crossed you don't need the magic machine, when are you due again? I'm not very regular so am due sometime between Sunday and Wednesday so am sure it will be a fun start to next week! Found myself creating a chart at work to try and figure out a pattern since we've been using the "bonkometer" and safe to say, there is no pattern! Ah well, at least I know when to DTD! Hope you're all well.

Pinkie29 · 15/05/2012 22:44

Bonkometer haha!!

Well my last cycle was 43 days so based on that I'd be due June 18th! I'm taking vitex and epo so hoping it regulates and shortens my cycle

Kittenkatzen · 16/05/2012 09:51

:o :o at bonkometer!

I casually dropped the idea of softcups/mooncups into conversation with DH last night (as you do)......the look on his face was priceless! It's very early days for us though so I think maybe I need to ease him into TTC a bit more gently haha!

Fingers are crossed for mrsbugsy
