TTC first baby

Hello all! DH and I are TTC our first baby, I'm 31, he's 32. We've only been trying for a month so it is extremely early days but I'm so excited at the prospect.

DH may have some fertility issues (picked up on a scan) but I was pretty convinced it was going to be a BFP straight away as I had so many symptoms - but that shows how much I know! Blush

Is anyone else TTC their first baby? Please join and keep me company!!

Fair enough. I've been battling with getting up to pee every hour, drinking 6L of water for weeks and having a mouth so dry I could probably clean the bottom of the Thames.

The first night in weeks where I haven't woken up every hour to pee and absolutely desperate for one of 3L of water that I've consumed between 10pm and 6pm.

So your advice caught me off guard a bit. I probably came on a bit strong but trust me, when you've been TTC for a few months, you'll learn that giving up something "because you might be pregnant" isn't a viable option. Because some people take years to conceive. I hope you don't have to wait long but you'll learn that that kind of advice is probably more insulting because it's not just a "flick" and you're pregnant. And it's not viable to change your lifestyle or put things on hold just because you are TTC.

Kittenkatzen · 08/06/2012 11:01

Thanks maclairey :) You're right about it being a worry that it could take ages....that's why we're not taking "drastic" measures like going back on the pill. We'll most likely just go with the (notoriously unreliable and hugely unromantic) withdrawal method for a while until we're feeling a bit more financially comfortable. It really is only a few months setback maximum - weeks really when you think about it :)

Now, get out of bed and do your washing! and if you wouldn't mind popping round and doing mine too that would be grand thanks :o Wink

Maclairey · 08/06/2012 11:37

Hi Kick (loving the new name by the way!) I do empathsize. I suffer terribly from hay fever and cannot contemplate giving up my antihistamines at the moment because I would literally be a snotty red eyed sneezing blubbery mess. I am hoping that when I get my bfp the pollen season will be on it'd way out! I hope you find out what is causing your immense thirst soon.

Ha ha Kitten will gladly pop round and do your washing as long as your happy with my hourly rate :)

So ummm can anyone tell me what happen to summer. It seems that like my ERTD it has home AWOL !!

Maclairey · 08/06/2012 11:38

Clearly that was meant to say *gone.

Stoopid iPhone.

KickTheGuru · 08/06/2012 11:59

I love autocorrect when it takes what should be a jolly good joke and ruins it

redstrawberry · 08/06/2012 12:12

kicking deep breath and a big woooooosaaaaaa. Newbie didn't mean it in that way I am sure.

I agree and I am not stopping drinking, meds, or doing anything different just because we are TTC. The more you carry on as normal the less you stress about TTC. We are also thinking of booking a holiday soon. No point in putting your life on hold.

Muse are awesome kitten - very envious!.

NicolaHazel · 08/06/2012 12:25

Kitten, you're a Musers too?!?! We met through Muse and love them! We applied for Manchester tickets though :-)

NicolaHazel · 08/06/2012 12:37

By the way...I've started the next installment here as I quite fancied seeing if the BFP luck would follow me as thread-starter, ha ha!

alwyn · 08/06/2012 12:37

Hi all, thought I'd join you on this thread as well!

I'm 29, DH is 28 (until Sunday lol) and we've been married for 4 years (together for 10.5!)

Finished my withdrawal bleed from the pill on Monday and have been SWI ever since!! Am going to try some sticks this month, just to work out if I will ovulate this month, but am trying not to obsess about it (I get quite obsessive and am very impatient when I decide what I want Grin)

NicolaHazel · 08/06/2012 12:46

Me too, alwyn...I'm an impatient obsessive. Awesome combination! :-/

alwyn · 08/06/2012 12:47

Yeahhhh....it certainly pees off my DH Grin

NicolaHazel · 08/06/2012 12:48

Mine too! :-)

mrsbugsywugsy · 08/06/2012 12:50

right ladies, to make you all feel better I will tell you the bad things I have done since being pregnant (at the very least you can laugh at what an idiot I am):

  1. drank a glass or four of wine when I thought I had AF, which then turned out to be implantation bleeding...
  2. the day after I got my BFP, I went down with D&V and spent four days unable to hold down any food or drink
  3. didn't realise I shouldn't be taking hayfever tablets until a week after I got my BFP
  4. got halfway through a prawn sandwich before getting a nagging feeling that I wasn't supposed to be eating it...
  5. found a piece of dried catshit while gardening, picked it up with a trowel and tried to throw it over the wall (onto a bit of wasteland, not someone else's garden), but the wind caught it and blew it straight back in my face.

Yet at my scan yesterday week they saw a heartbeat, so the baby has survived all of that. I think we think of them as delicate little things but they're not, they are hardy little parasites who will suck all of the nutrients out of us, while we get sick. If we do miscarry, it is almost certainly due to abnormalities and not something we've done.

By the way I have now stopped my hayfever tablets and surprisingly am not suffering at all. my theory is that pregnancy lowers your immune system, and hayfever is an over-reaction of the immune system, so you won't suffer as much. Either that or the shitty weather means there is no pollen this year.

Popinda · 08/06/2012 12:51

Welcome alwyn! I think we are all in the same both! All very impatient! I'm using ov sticks this month for the first time and I think this weekend is my lucky weekend (well in term of ov Grin) if this the case, then my cycles and ov are like from book! 30 day cycle, ov on day 15! Perfect! GrinGrin
Well, but it makes me ask the question, why I'm still not pg? We did lots of dtd around my last ov dates! (this is our second cycle of ttc) maybe I'm just a bit impatient! My dh said to me yesterday after we dtd, that he though that we would be done with it by now! And he wondered if he should go to see a doc! Smile

Pinkie29 · 08/06/2012 13:22

Bugsy how far along are you? I've felt ok today not many twinges but my theory is the little seed will have growth spurts? Saw an amazing pic from 7 weeks where it almost doubles in size from week 6.

Any tips on excuses for not drinking? I'm on 'antibiotics' atm that's bought me 4 weeks off haha

mrsbugsywugsy · 08/06/2012 14:01

pinkie I had a scan just over a week ago at 6 weeks and the embryo measured 1.7mm, then one yesterday where it measured 8.1mm and had a heartbeat. Amazing! It has more than doubled. Officially they have decided I am only 6 and 6 now, so I have 'lost' a few days of pregnancy. I only had the scans because of bleeding so it was a worrying time but it was such a relief to see its little heart going.

I had some people over for dinner last week and played a good trick. I have some dark coloured wine glasses and pre-filled mine with cranberry juice, so it looked just like red wine. Every time I popped into the kitchen I refilled it and no one seemed to be the wiser.

I think if you go to the pub then you can drink something like coke, and pretend there is vodka in it. Obviously make sure you only have a drink when it is yours or your DH's round, loudly ask your DH for a vodka and coke, but he will know this means just a coke.

Pinkie29 · 08/06/2012 14:09

Glad to hear everything is ok Smile Ive worked out I'm 4weeks 4 days to be precise! I never knew they count the start of your last period as the start of the pregnancy?!

Good idea with the drinks! A few of the girls asked me to go pub tonight and as soon as i said not drinking I got the 'are you pregnant?!' so wouldn't put it past them to test my drink!

KickTheGuru · 08/06/2012 14:10

Good ideas there mrsbugsy :)
Loving the stories

Doc has ordered the lot of tests - diabetes, full blood, thyroid (she is erring on it being a thyroid issue), hormones (CD2 so only if I am not pregnant), allergies, glucose - every time I told her something different, she added another test to run.

I told her about the anti-allergy pills and she said nothing. With the "TTC 10 months" ish glaring in her face. She said she had never heard of anti allergy causing thirst, but doing the test anyway.

I have constant heartburn and the only food I can stomach right now is cold fruit / cold jelly - my mouth is too dry to eat most foods so that gets knocked right out.

Oh well...at least the tests are ordered and we'll see soon enough

redstrawberry · 08/06/2012 14:19

When do you get the results kicking*? That is a lot of tests! I can't imagine what constant thirst must feel like.

I pre-prepared for the alcohol questions and thought if I had friends over at home I would probably fill an empty bottle of red with some non-alcoholic wine, and an empty bottle of vodka with water.

How sad am I? I have been planning and obsessing for a year now :(

Maclairey · 08/06/2012 14:21

Awww I am very excited for Bugsy and Pinkie!!!

Glad you got some tests ordered Kick, now for a diagnosis and cure!

So clearly some aspects of the pill are out of my system as my skin has reverted to that of a spotty teenager. I had forgotten how many zits I used to get. Have any cures been invented in the last 10 years?? Hmm

NicolaHazel · 08/06/2012 14:22

Fuck me...someone else is pregnant at work. 7 at work now and another person's wife!

There must be luck here for me, surely!

NicolaHazel · 08/06/2012 14:24

Oh, and I hope your tests reveal the cause, kick.

I had a constant dry mouth on the injection, but not thirst. That must be awful. :-/

Maclairey · 08/06/2012 14:25

Oooooh second to last post.....

mrsbugsywugsy · 08/06/2012 14:26

pinkie if they are already suspicious then there isn't a lot you can do, just smile sweetly and keep them guessing Smile

Kick you definitely aren't pregnant are you? Raging thirst and heartburn are both symptoms I've had.
