TTC first baby

Hello all! DH and I are TTC our first baby, I'm 31, he's 32. We've only been trying for a month so it is extremely early days but I'm so excited at the prospect.

DH may have some fertility issues (picked up on a scan) but I was pretty convinced it was going to be a BFP straight away as I had so many symptoms - but that shows how much I know! Blush

Is anyone else TTC their first baby? Please join and keep me company!!

ps Pinkie I also have a couple of little red dots like you describe. I googled and think they might be something called a cherry angioma.

Apparently they are more common in middle age, and can be caused by hormonal changes, so I'm thinking mine might be associated with coming off the pill as def not pregnant yet and not middle aged either thank you

Pennyforthem1 · 07/05/2012 20:18

Hi there, can I join too?

I'll try not to be too hormonal as its cycle day 1 today, yip she arrived bang on time! Been trying for about a year now albeit not always on schedule but close enough, also been using a clearblue fertility monitor to help guess my days. Think I just need some reassurance .... Thanks ladies.

Pinkie29 · 07/05/2012 20:30

Hey thanks bugsy just had a look and the pics are similar to mine but not as raised, so I'm getting old.... Greeeeat!

Almost forgot welcome Bugsy and Hermione Smile

redstrawberry · 08/05/2012 10:02

Hi can I join too? I have been lurking for a few days but decided to post today as I am going out of my mind. I thought I could keep this symptom spotting and ovulation tracking under control but I am finding myself constantly thinking about it counting down the days.

I am TTC #1 and on cycle 1 CD13 - DH wants to wait a week after AF due to test. Not sure how I am going to manage that.

cwtching · 08/05/2012 10:24

Hello lovely new ladies - A very big warm welcome!

It's CD19 - I thought I was 7 dpo based on cm and normal ov pain but then on Sat had an emotional meltdown (over nothing) and really quite strong pain in my ovary or lower hip joint on Sun and Mon. Either I ovulated later than I thought or hip is packing in! Hmm

10 days to wait now...

Did anyone do anything nice over bank holiday weekend? We went to an outdoor sporting event on Sunday ... It was freeeezing X

PS. Can we all collectively wish for some sunshine please?

OP posts:
32andready · 08/05/2012 10:27

Sunshine. What's that?! It's freezing here, we've had the heating on every evening. My bank holidays are all just part of my annual leave so I was at work yesterday and failing miserably to distract myself from the endless symptom spotting...

cwtching · 08/05/2012 10:29

Hiya Red

It's really hard isn't it? I'm on cycle 2 and it's definitely easier and more relaxed than it was in cycle 1. In Cycle 1 I literally couldn't stop thinking about having a bfp, I must have read every available internet site on early symptoms! Hang in there :)

redstrawberry · 08/05/2012 10:33

You mean apart from a lot of SWI Wink? We went away for the weekend - spent time with friends and family. I had quite a few Blush large glasses of Wine.

Expecting to ovulate this week - why doesn't time go faster when you want it to??!

cwtching - Could it be implantation? Bring on the sunshine :)

cwtching · 08/05/2012 11:15

Ha! Red I meant the symptom spotting / ovulation tracking, everything else is really rather lovely Wink Your weekend sounds perfect.

We did house jobs (yawn). Bah humbug to being in work 32, our heating's on too ... rubbish. We don't have any holidays away planned this year so we were hoping for some balmy british summer weather.... hmm ... a little over-optimistic?

I'm not sure if it could be implantation pain ... cue some google searching :)

Well, not sure what happened this month but AF has finally shown up on day 38 Sad - big glass of wine tonight and fingers crossed for June...

redstrawberry · 08/05/2012 15:42

Oh no! Sorry to hear that 32 :(
June will be your month - fx.

Persuasion · 09/05/2012 07:13

Welcome Hermione bugsy and red!

Sorry about ERTD 32, at least you know where you are now? Our bodies are cruel aren't they, this never happens before we're TTC.

I'm on 11dpo. Felt ERTDish yesterday but nothing overnight and now feel sick. I gave in and did a test but it's bfn if I'm honest but it's too early for the tests I've got. Who knows what's happening.

cwtching · 10/05/2012 08:20

Oh no 32, I hope you enjoyed your big glass of wine. I second Red here's to June.

I have a question re testing. About to start the 7DW, some of the tests I've seen in supermarkets allow you to test 6 days before AF. They are a little bit pricey. Is it a waste of money to test early because I guess even if it is a negative you don't know for sure as hormone levels might not be high enough yet. Also I've seen some people writing about buying cheaper tests online. Are these any good and if so are there any particular ones I should look out for? Advice gratefully accepted.

mrsbugsywugsy · 10/05/2012 12:25

cwtching I know it is hard, but I'm going to try not to test early, as if you get a positive at that stage then there is quite a high chance of a 'chemical pregnancy', and if you get a negative you might just be testing too early.

I just went to the GP to have a 'TTC' chat. She was really helpful and gave me some advice which I thought I'd share here. Partly as she was a young woman, I felt quite able to ask her 'embarassing' questions that I might have hesitated to ask your typical old man GP.

She said that most people my age (33) will fall pregnant within about 6 months
All we should do now is have sex 3-4 times a week, particularly in the middle of your cycle
It doesn't matter what position you have sex in, and there's no point in holding your legs in the air afterwards (told you I asked embarassing questions Grin)
The other thing to do now is start taking folic acid, stop smoking (if you smoke), and not drink excessively
It doesn't matter too much if you drink some alcohol in the first week or two of pregnancy, before you can test, as the foetus won't share your blood supply yet
It is normal to bleed a little around ovulation
She didn't suggest any pre-conception tests (smear, rubellla) and tbh I forgot to ask
If we're not pregnant in a year, come back and see her again

Apologies if this is all obvious, basic, stuff, but I thought it might help someone else who is just starting out.

cwtching · 10/05/2012 23:32

Thank you for your sound advice MrsBugsy I know it's the wrong thing to do but it's just so tempting :) I will do my best to abstain.

Thank you too for your Dr's feedback. I have not been drinking any alcohol for the past two months unless I have AF and then only a little. We are going to a big party this weekend so, according to your Dr (as still to early for me to test really) I can have a nice glass of vino (or two) ! Lovely!

purplefairies · 11/05/2012 08:31

Hello ladies, can I join, too?
I'm 31 and DH is 40 - I'm about to take my very last pill (been on it for 8 or so years with breaks in between) tonight and I'm quite excited about it all now!

I've gone from not wanting kids EVER (mid-20s) to beating myself up trying to weigh up the pros and cons (last few years) to finally saying, yes, let's do it! DH has always been far more pro-children than me, but I think even he's scared by my enthusiasm now :)

I'm a bit of an obsessive organiser, so I hope I'm not going to get too caught up in symptom-spotting too soon. I know it could take years after all.

Pinkie29 · 11/05/2012 10:36

Welcome purplefairies Grin

I'm obsessive at organising planning etc so your not alone hehe! I'm pretty much same as you never really bothered me having them or not then last year it's all I could think about!

We're on cycle 4 been tho been ttc nearly 6 months due to my long cycles. Started vitex yesterday to try bring me down from a 43 day cycle to something more normal! Am also started temping and got opks ready and started epo to try increase ewcm... Yeah I've lost the plot!

redstrawberry · 11/05/2012 22:51

Hi purple and pinkie!
What does epo mean?

I too couldn't see myself having children few years back! Not a maternal bone in my body - yet.
However it's completely taken over the last 6 months. At the same time friends n family are popping them out which is making it even more difficult to remain patient now.

Pinkie29 · 12/05/2012 07:53

Epo - evening primrose oil.

It's crazy how the need suddenly kicks in, I've forever been know as the anti mother refer to my friends babies as 'it' more to wind them up that is Grin and now I'd like a little bundle of my own... Am sure this is mother natures payback!!

QueenOfTheRodeo · 12/05/2012 10:46

Hi can I join you all? I'm 27 & DH is 32, we've been 'seeing what happens' since we got married in August last year but of course nothing has happened so we're taking it a bit more seriously lately! I'm 11DPO at the moment, was driving myself crazy with imaginary symptoms so tested yesterday but got BFN, af is due Tuesday so going to wait until then before I test again.

I know exactly what you mean those of you who never saw yourselves as maternal, I was the same until about 2 years ago, now I can't wait to be a mother!

Pinkie29 · 12/05/2012 11:31

Welcome rodeo Grin

3littlebirds · 12/05/2012 14:48

Hi there, I've been lurking around here for a while so thought I should say hi. We are serial planners and wanted to start trying years ago but decided to try to pay off some of the mortgage, get married etc before we started trying. Wedding was back in February but honeymoon destination required Malaria drugs so had to wait (argh!) for another month to start trying. Last month got a BFN and now have 10 days to wait till AF due. We are using the ClearBlue fertility monitor dooda (did I mention I am also very impatient?!) - I honestly thought I wouldn't obsess about all this stuff, but I TOTALLY am! Nice to meet you all x :)

Pinkie29 · 12/05/2012 14:55

Hi 3little birds! How are you finding the monitor? I've just purchased one for our next cycle (assuming this isn't THE cycle)

I'm super impatient honestly it's all I think about!!

mrsbugsywugsy · 12/05/2012 15:02

cwtching glad to hear the advice helps someone else have a guilt-free piss up

My period is due on Wednesday but I think I ovulated later than usual. I don't chart or anything, but I have ovulation cramps and they were a few days later than normal. Would I be able to test on Wednesday, or should I wait till 2 weeks after I ovulated?

I'm not holding out too much hope as I have the usual start of PMS - I cried over nothing yesterday.

Hi to everyone else Smile

3littlebirds · 12/05/2012 15:03

I read lots of stuff online saying that it probably wouldn't work the first month and maybe not the second. I was very lucky and it worked first month as expected. For me, it's good to know when you should be doing it to get the most effect and when the little swimmers will be best utilised! TBH, first month we were both completely shattered! ...no good news first time around but second month high/peak were detected again so fingers crossed. Makes sense for the likes of us impatient people and I guess it helps you to know that your body is doing the first part that it needs to....

Fingers crossed you will never need to use your's!!!
