Had a search for a may BFP thread and couldn't see one (please correct me if there is!) so thought I'd start one..

curiousgeorgie - TTC #2 - Testing April 29th

Anyone with me?

Toobreathless - sorry she got you :(

winkle2 · 29/04/2012 21:58

Littlemisssnowshine - good effort and fingers crossed this is your month

toobreathless · 29/04/2012 23:06

little Miss well done you! Enjoy those flannels PJs & fingers crossed you might be buying the maternity version in a few months!

winkle :( is actually :) just feeling very excited! I don't think I ever seriously expected to fall pregnant before having a period. Bring it on! How are you doing?

RightUpMyRue · 29/04/2012 23:22

If I were you toobreathless or if I were to do this again I would begin by charting my cycle straight away, not waiting a year like I have this time. Invest in a cheapo BBT thermometer, download a free chart and get to know how your cycles work right from the off.

Another really important thing to do is to have enough sex, set yourself a minimum of 3 times per week whatever your chart is showing. It'll happen so much quicker for you that way.

toobreathless · 29/04/2012 23:45

Rue thank you for your advice. I wasn't going to bother temping as I work at least one set of night shifts a month. Wouldn't this make things very tricky? I was dithering with the idea of ovulation sticks. Think it would be handy to at least work out how long my average cycle is, I suspect although regular its more like 32 days. DD was induced at 40+ 14 with no signs of being post dates & I always wondered if my due date should have been a week later.

RightUpMyRue · 30/04/2012 00:07

I thought the same thing when we started TTC (all that time ago). I thought it was too much hassle, too much like a crazy lady obsessed with getting PG quickly and too complicated. I really regret that now and wish I'd started a long time ago.

I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility a couple of months ago and it was very reassuring about longer cycles and was really useful as guide to what to look out for to show signs of OVing. I recommend anyone reading it, it's well worth the £10 or so from amazon.

Re the night shifts. You'll be sleeping when you get home won't you? You need to take temps after a minimum of 3 consecutive hours sleep whether that's through the night or the day. Ideally it'll be the same time everyday but so long as you know where the night shift temps are on your chart you can factor in any changes when looking for a pattern. That's what it's all about, seeing the pattern your cycles usually take and therefore knowing your peak fertile times.

OV sticks are an easy way to go but aren't as reliable as temping and mucous watching.

There are a few things you could combine to really maximise your knowledge of your cycle; temping, cervical position checking, mucous watching and OPKs. However, if you have sex every other or every 2-3 days all thoughout the cycle then it'll make no difference whether you know your LH is surging, whether you know your cervix is low, high firm or soft or whether your temp is up, down or sideways!

They're all ways for you to feel like you're more in control of the procedings I guess.

Wow, I've really waffled on there, hope I've made some sense to someone! Grin

wishfulthinking1 · 30/04/2012 06:22

Hi girls- susie, I think I'd try to hold off for as long as I could- I think aim for wednesday.

Things not great for me- embarrassingly my DF is fed up of having sex with me!! Says he feels like there's too much pressure :-( in his defence we did day that we'd not try try until after wedding, we'd just not use protection and see what happened. Guess I got all carried away with cycle days, ovulation and mucus!! I'm going to try to back off uny after wedding- don't want to put him off before we've even begun! We only did it cd 8, 10 and 12 and don't know when I ovulate- didn't particularly notice any ewcm. Had a look at my period diary app and my cycle length has been (since coming off the pill) 19 days, 15 days, 28 days, 25 days then 28 days so am hoping that if I did ovulate on any day from cd8-13 ish then I might have caught the egg- but unlikely - but not impossible!

I'm going to hang around till the end Of the thread to see how you all get on but then I'm going to chill out and try for a July BFP.

I hope (in the nicest possible way!!) that I don't see any of you there!!!

Xxx

Snowshine- v. Good effort- enjoy your well earned rest and fx for you!! X

wishfulthinking1 · 30/04/2012 07:16

DF woke up with the horn and said 'let's make a baby'- I bit back the urge to say "it's day 17, what's the point?" and realised that would rather back up his 'too pressurised' statement!

So, cd 8, 10, 12 and 17- who's with me for late ovulation!! Wohoo!

Also, can someone who knows when they OV and has OV pain tell me what it feels like? I think I might have some- but it could just be wind!

Have a nice day everyone xxx

RightUpMyRue · 30/04/2012 09:21

wishful, OV pain for me is similar to period pain but milder. I tend to feel it more on the left side than the right. It's like occasional sharp cramps down low, about an inch up from my pube line (sorry, didn't know how else to describe it!). TBH it is similar to the pain you sometimes get with trapped wind but that tends to be a constant ache whereas with OVing its intermittant cramps.

HTH Smile

winkle2 · 30/04/2012 12:32

wishfulthinking1 - yaay! Glad hubs has changed his mind :)

AF due tomorrow according to my iphone app. That will be CD30. But previous periods have been 34 days so who know when she will arrive!?

jaquelinehyde · 30/04/2012 13:16

Hello everyone

I currently have 3 dc's (only one is biologically mine) and dh and I have decided to try for another one together.

We have been waiting to try for years now, just trying to get the timing right, waiting for me to finish my degree, pay off some debt, get married, have an operation and then move.....The list goes on.

Well as most of you have probably found these lists just grow and grow and so we have decided to just go for it. However...

For the last 5 years I have been on the contraceptive implant and haven't had a single period in all that time. When I fell pg previously it was a wonderful accident and so I have no knowledge of actually trying to concieve, planning etc Grin

I had the implant out 4 weeks ago and haven't had a period yet but I have been doing ovulation tests and apparently I started ovulating on Friday/Saturday according to the little stick so dh and I have been at it all weekend (quite handy as it was our wedding anniversary too) and will continue to just be at it as much as possible.

So what advise can you guys give me...do these ovulation sticks normally give an accurate reading and is it worth doing them? I have read different things about best shagging time around ovulation and it ranges from 48hrs to 5 days again im confused and just plan to keep going. Also how long after ovulation will af usually arrive, I have no idea and because I haven't had a period for years I can't even guess by how I'm feeling etc.

God I have gone on, sorry! Just give me any information you think would be helpful (including the best ovulation and pg tests to buy and where to get them the cheapest)

Thanks Grin

winkle2 · 30/04/2012 13:32

Welcome jaquelinehyde!

Best pregnancy tests are pink dye ones and not the blue dye one. I have heard Superdrug and First Response Early Result (FRER) are the best.

As for shagging strategies Grin the advice is to DTD every 2-3 days throughout your whole cycle. I do the SMEP plan (sperm meets egg plan) which is DTD every other day from CD 8 (CD1 is classed as the first day of your period). Start using the Ovulation sticks from CD10 and when you get a positive DTD that day, the next day and the day after. Miss one day and then do one more try. It hasn't worked for me yet but I've seen a lot of successes with this plan on other boards.

OV test ? do them after holding in wee and not drinking for 4 hours and best time to do them is in the afternoon ? I do mine at 2.30pm.

Hope that helps!

As for me, I did my last FRER and it was negative so going to just wait for my period and start the June thread :( Hope to not see any of you over there! (Apart from if it's to congratulate me on my BFP Grin)

jaquelinehyde · 30/04/2012 14:02

Wow thank you for all that information, very, very helpful indeed!

Is there anywhere that I can buy the tests online as I live on a remote Scottish Island?

Sorry to hear you got a negative test but never say never until your period arrives.

How long after a positive ov test would I expect my period to arrive on average or how soon could I start testing (not that I'm going to bother this month)

winkle2 · 30/04/2012 14:24

I get my OV tests from Amazon or ebay ? I use the clearblue digital ones so I don't have to analyse the lines. The CB Digis give you a smiley face when you're ovulating.

I think the average is 14-16 days after a positive OV.

Good luck!

Sticklebricksuk · 30/04/2012 14:24

Hi can I join? I had reserved a seat on the original sleigh but as my cycles were so long (last two 38 and 40 days) then the sleigh took off without me! However, today AF came, and while disappointed that no pregnancy, I am looking at the positives that I had a 30 day cycle and I temped for the first month and had a clear, definate and sustained temperature rise on day 18, so I've gone from worrying about my long cycles and potentially not ovulating to having a "normal" length cycle and definate ovulation, so I'm feeling pretty good. I recognise a lot of names here, so fingers crossed for this month for all of us!

Adding myself to the list, and assuming another 30 day cycle (It's day 1, and I'm being optimistic, may amend as the month goes on)
Silentmammoth, 31, TTC%235, Cycle 1, 8dpo but with 10 day LP
Limeleaflizard, 36, TTC %234, Cycle 5, AF due 8 May
Pipbin, 37, TTC %231, Cycle 10, AF due 31 May
Lastboxoftampons, 35, TTC %232, Cycle 3, 8dpo with 10 day LP
Sticklebricksuk, 30, TTC%231, Cycle 5, AF due 30 May

Sticklebricksuk · 30/04/2012 14:27

Ooops posted in the wrong place, but I'm out anyway!!

Good luck to all those waiting to test and madly shagging away!

RIBS · 30/04/2012 14:35

Hi Jackie and stickle.
Remember stickle from an earlier thread. Good luck 2 u both 4 this month.
I think its great that ur being positive about af's arrival. This ttc business is such a pain in the arse, and I 4 one feel that iv got some control by temping and ov testing. Particularly wen ur cycles r seriously screwed up!

Which reminds me morecoffee. Where r u? Did u make your dr's appt? I said I'd nag!

Hai1988 · 30/04/2012 14:58

I'm here! Haha, I forgot all about your nagging ribs ! I've been working all day- last day today! I'm now a stay at home mum again!yay!

Not booked gp appt. Will phone tomorrow as we have a ring on the day system.

Started the June thread if anyone wants to mark their place. I'm pretty sure I won't get my may bfp due long cycles, but I will get my June bfp (and it will be a keeper this time!)

Not caught up yet. Just on the school run atm. Hope everyone's good.

Keeping my fx for you winkle !

morecoffeemorecoffee · 30/04/2012 15:01

Good signs hai its too early to test! but I would poas anyway!

RightUpMyRue · 30/04/2012 15:57

hai stay away from the pee sticks!

jaquelinehyde · 30/04/2012 16:03

So if I know that I was OVing this weekend I should expect my period in 2 weeks ish?

I have had a lot of pain today, like intense period pains so I'm not quite sure what is going on but I suppose that's to be expected after so many years of the implant.

winkle2 · 30/04/2012 16:07

jaquelinehyde - 2 weeks is the average... good luck!

tedmundo · 30/04/2012 16:29

Hi Jacqueline .. .. If you got the positive on the opks at the weekend then it is usual to ovulate about 2 days after .. So those pains are probably ov pains. mine are dull aches, interspersed with sharp pains in one side.

I hope this is what you are getting. DTD over the weekend is perfect timing. FX for you!!

I am still symptom spotting and can add feeling nauseated and hungry to my list now. I am now 7 dpo. the next week is going to be hard. I am due to test on Tues, day after AF due unless she has turned up already.

sat here scoffing popcorn. Must not munch to make self feel better .. Repeat to myself ....

Hai .. Those symptoms sound amazing to me as they are the same as mine!! Let's believe it could be as right now, it is possible. And if not, we can go and hang out on the June thread because it will be our turn VERY soon .. Oh yes.

The metallic taste is what makes me reach for the tests. I get this very strongly as I would really take it as a good sign. I don't have it though. Maybe by the weekend??

Why does it sometimes feel like the whole world is pregnant?? I see bumps EVERYWHERE at the mo.

Hai1988 · 30/04/2012 16:47

Grin @ rue

When do u think the earliest i can test as my cheapo tests are apparently 10miu ?
