Freak Out Room For Those Newly Updiffed After M/C Part VIII

dooscooby · 20/07/2011 12:53

Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

So pleased LAFF what a relief! you must be over the moon :)

milkyways · 09/09/2011 17:44

Congratulations LAF!! Fantastic news!

LAF77 · 09/09/2011 18:17

Thank you all for indulging me in my angst for the last 2 months. It has been a stressful time, but I'm going to relax and try to enjoy the coming weeks and months.

livin I could clearly see the baby. He jumped around a bit when he first came on the screen and then went back to sleep. She wanted to get a better CRL measurement and I had to cough, not enough movement on his part. She then bounced around with the scanner on my stomach and he then started moving around and kicking out at it, settled down in a few positions to go back to sleep. It is so beautiful to think that I have a baby in there, he already has a little personality. He seems like he will be pretty chilled out like me (although you wouldn't know it from MN!) I am so happy right now.

I started crying as I approached the ward because it was across from the EPU where I have so many bad memories. It was hard to go near it without feeling like bad things were going to happen. Thankfully, I'll never have to go there again.

Keep believing, ladies, don't give up hope. It was a year ago to the day that I lost my second pg. I didn't think that I was ever going to have a baby, but here I am, made it to 12 weeks. If it wasn't for the care and research of St. Mary's I don't think I would be pg at all.

Have a great weekend all!

kat2504 · 09/09/2011 18:29

Awww LAFF you have made me cry (not difficult at the moment in my hormonal state) that sounds so lovely. You've come a long way through a tough time but that's over now. You've done it!! :)

I look at my scan pics and I find it hard to believe that little thing is wriggling around inside me.

LivinInTheMoment · 09/09/2011 20:31

Aw LAF thats so wonderful. It is pure magic seeing that baby isn't it! I'm so happy for you.

boodleboot · 10/09/2011 22:16

congrats LAF. that is wonderful. my daughter was born a year to the day that i had my emergency ectopic and it is her 1st birthday today (so ectopic two years ago)....sometimes things really do go full circle. huge snuggly vibes for your little baby. xxx

i just want them to send through my early scan so i can allow myself to dare imagine that the baby is settled in the right place.....

notnowImreading · 10/09/2011 23:44

All my symptoms have suddenly disappeared. I'm five and a half weeks. Boobs have stopped hurting, tummy is flat, no twinges - I'm not even tired and it's quarter to twelve. What the hell is going on?

LadyMaybe · 11/09/2011 08:15

Ok, time to admit I need some help. I'm not going to be able to get through the next few weeks without some fish slapping support while I spin, mentalling out of control Blush.

Greetings! I'm the Ladybee in the last line of the list, right about now is the due date of my last (3rd) miscarriage and I'm 6+0 on round 4, attempting a little positivity with the name change.

Hi LAF so lovely to see you here and doing so well!!! and BoodleBoot I remember you on the grads thread, I seem to recall we lived in the same neck of the woods - I've since moved to the other side of the world so my posts talk about events 12 hours in advance IYSWIM. Smile

NotNow my boobs did that a little while ago, but they did actually come back with some tenderness - not as much as in the beginning though. I have a theory that they tend to be sore really only when they're doing something and once they've got to one point they get used to it and ease off. My levels of tiredness/nausea are different from day-to-day, I've only been sick once and not again, and I find if I don't succumb to the yawning and go to bed at 9pm then I get a bit of a second wind and am fine to be up quite late.

I'm at the stage where it seems like symptoms are gearing up and I just feel mostly pissed off about it. This is what happens with me each time, spend the first week and half worrying about not much symptoms, then it gears up and I feel crap for 2 weeks and then I get a scan and discover the hb that was there is now not. I'm desperately hoping the story is going to be different this time - am on Clexane, Aspirin and Progesterone and being cared for by the local recurrent miscarriage clinic which has been very good so far. They've had me doing serial HCG blood tests which have been tracking perfectly fine, and will probably invite me for a scan this week. (Which I'm crapping myself about). They seem to run a weekly scan clinic, so I think I can go every week if I want, but I guess I'll get more info about it when I go for the first appt.

Anyway will have a go at putting myself on the list. Sorry for the huge mememe, I'll read back and see where everyone else is.

Congratulations lady hope this is the lucky one for you. I'm on the Clexane and Aspirin too and it seems, touch wood, to be doing a good job so far.

Waves at ladym fluctuating symptoms. Check. Second wind after early evening yawnfest. Check. On/off hurty boobs. Check.

Hello boodle I remember you! Lovely to see you back here - and I do hope all goes swimmingly with this one. (god I've been here ages)

Well Thursday and Friday were pretty asymptomatic. I was directing a (very easy) 2 day shoot so didn't have much time to dwell on anything. Ate an enormous amount of biscuits and mainly barked instructions from sitting cross legged on the floor, but I think it must have taken it out of me as was completely knackered yesterday and for the first time ever thought I might be sick. Bearing in mind I'm on steroids so even less likely to suffer ms, this was v exciting indeed.
Still, every twinge and ache worries me.

I'm having an extra scan this week as I thought I should prob see my consultant at least once during this pg. I'm fairly happy being scanned at St Marys but I felt a courtesy visit to the man who has probably saved me from further miscarriages was due. So far am feeling positive about it. But no doubt I'll start freaking out closer to Weds morning.

Can't believe I'm 9 weeks today!

boodleboot · 11/09/2011 10:52

Hi ladymaybe....lovely to see u again on here!!! I'm feeling crampy today sub some real tainted of pain....really hoping all is ok. No blood or anything. Just bit periody....its all on my right side too which worries me cos that's my tubed side....left tube went in the ectopic. Really hope its not the start of another ectopic?? Boobs bit tender and I am reaaaaaaly bloated out.....so cannot wait for scan. :(

boodleboot · 11/09/2011 10:54

I frickin hate predictive text.....that should say twinges of pain....

boodleboot · 11/09/2011 11:04

Sorry digi.....crossposted.....9 wks wow!! Fab news....I am somewhat suprised to be back but very very grateful nonetheless.....if job sounds v glamourous!!!

Biscuitsandtea · 11/09/2011 11:41

Well done for adding yourself Kat and good luck for Wednesday - keeping fingers crossed for you.

And Hello Lady - these early days are so horrible aren't they - keeping everything crossed for you that the drugs can do their stuff for you. It certainly sounds as though they clinic are taking care of you which is reassuring (although always horrible to have to pass those sad anniversaries Sad). Is this the first pg that you've had the aspirin etc for? Good that you can have lots of scans to try and keep you (a bit) sane.

Digital - wow! 9 weeks - you're doing brilliantly - well done.

Is anyone else scanning this week? i know Kat and probably Lady are? Boodle when is your scan - do you have a date yet? I have my 12 weeker on Friday and am already getting nervous about it.

LadyMaybe · 12/09/2011 00:53

I know digi! 9 weeks seems such a mythical wondrous place - seems ridiculous that generally three weeks would feel like no time at all but to get to three weeks and still be in a (relatively) happy place for me just seems inconceivable. Well done on making it so far.

Kat good job on adding yourself too, so pleased it's going well for you so far. I hate the clexane, I nearly cried when I started it up this time as the prospect of doing it with no promise of a take home baby was almost too much to bear. But will carry on regardless. I do have mad wondering moments about where to do the shots if a bump should ever appear.

Biscuits no, I was given the tests for RM after my second consecutive because I'd had one before DS, so the nurse at the EPAU counted that as three and referred me. I suspect because I had two MCs really close together and she remembered me that she was more sympathetic. Anyway, they found Factor V Leiden, we already knew about PCOS. The last MC I was on aspirin and Clexane but no progesterone, and we had a HB and perfect growth for dates at a scan at 7 weeks, then I didn't get another scan until 11 weeks (which was supposed to be my discharge) and we found it had stopped developing at about 8 weeks. The consultant was shocked, I remember him saying 'Ladybee, I'm sorry, this is a disaster' and just feeling so pleased that at last someone 'official' recognised how devastating it was. Anyway, that cycle I'd had a day 21 progesterone test done, he said the results were ok but a bit low especially in a cycle where by that time I was pg, so agreed to progesterone for the next try.
So, that probably explains in part why I'm finding this so hard - I've had a go with meds, it didn't work. I'm pleased about the progesterone but if it doesn't work again I don't know what I'll do. As much as I hate the idea of scans, I think I'll go weekly for them because at least that way if something does go wrong we'll have better information about when it happened. Also, last time there was no attempt to karyotype the remains, so we have no idea whether it was a clotting issue or chromosomal. I hate treating myself as a science project like this but it's the only way I've found to cope.

So scans this week -

Scarlet, DigitalGirl, Wednesday
?Ladymaybe, ?Stichinline - Thursday
Biscuits - Friday
?Kat are you having another one this week? and hopefully boodle will get hers through.

LadyMaybe · 12/09/2011 00:56

Sorry, that should be 'to get through three weeks'

kat2504 · 12/09/2011 09:00

No, I'm not due another scan till the 12 weeker. I think I've been mixed up with someone else. Who is getting scanned on Wednesday? I'd have a daily scan if I could, although I think my nerves would be shot through if I did that.

stitchinline · 12/09/2011 11:08

Well lot?s of lovely thing have been happening while I?ve been away!

Dachs so very pleased with your news and very relieved all is progressing well for you ? are you seeing you OB this week?

LadyM lovely to see you here too, i am starting to wonder where to put the injections when i get a proper bump (not just the too many pies one I have at the moment). Eek - at nearly 16 weeks the prospect does seem a very little bit possible but still feel like I?m jinxing it if I think too far ahead. I have tried my leg but I always seem to get painful monster lumpy bruises when I try there.

digi excellent on the 9 week milestone

LAFfab scannage news, so very pleased

KAT yay on going on the list, daily scans would be brilliant but very nerve wracking at the same time

My next scan is Thursday night and I am starting to brick it, i just knew I couldn?t wait until the 20 week one and so booked this in a few weeks ago, not sure if I wouldn?t rather go along oblivious to anything being wrong? Need to find my happy zen place to hide in until Thursday. Also idiot that I am after telling myself last time I would only book future scans in the morning this one is at 6 in the evening, Thursday is going to be a very long day!

Waves to everyone else and leaves cream scones for everyone

boodleboot · 12/09/2011 22:03

no bloody buggery bollocking scan news from me yet. gah. Confused

i don't know if i want one til next week tho really (like i get to choose!) as the CB digi today said i was 2-3wks which translates at 4-5wks in docs eyes. really i would like scan at 6+ wks to see not only the little sac in right place (fingers crossed) but also a little BH flickering....BUT with my EP history i suppose i should get the siting of the fetus clarified asap as i had no physical signs of EP before at all and only the diligence of a wonderful GP got me seen so quickly and had emergency EP diagnosed.

my boobs do hurt today tho and i am sooo hungry.

LAF77 · 12/09/2011 22:04

Yay lady so happy to see you here! So pleased for you and that you have found a specialist to see you in your new home. How often do you get scans? Do you feel that the care over there is better than the UK?

digi also big congratulations on reaching 9 weeks. It will be interesting to see what Dr S has to say to you on Weds.

I'm knackered, work has been so busy, just turned off my PC half an hour ago and am going to hit the hay. I had my booking in appointment today. It felt quite surreal, talking to the MW about being pg. It made me a bit uncomfortable because the last time I went there, I MC'd shortly after the appointment. I am quite superstitious at the moment.

I also had a panic this morning when a blocked number called my number and didn't leave a message. I had all of these sinking feelings that it was bad news about the blood results from Friday, but no one called back all day. I asked the MW and she said that if they did call with results that they would try again. Also, an early Monday AM call was probably pushing it from the blood results on Friday afternoon. So I'm going to try and sleep tonight and make sure my phone is glued to me all day tomorrow.

Waves to everyone else!

stitchinline · 13/09/2011 14:29

LAF hope all is ok and the missed called was nothing. So annoying when people don't leave a message. Booking in is a bit surreal.

Boodle hope you get a scan date through soon - worrying about an ep is not fun.

Very quiet in here today - hoping it us because everyone has found happy zen places and ate all freak out free Grin

Not much to report in my neck of the woods - trying very unsuccessfully to forget about the scan on Thursday. And the 16 week appt with mw on Friday - big eek.

I want to be back in holidays as so over work today.

LadyMaybe · 14/09/2011 02:05

I think it's denial for me Smile

Had a call from the nurse this morning with my latest HCG and it's all still tracking fine. She's invited me in for a scan tomorrow but with lots 'we might not see a heartbeat at this stage' warnings...I'm ok with that. Having had a blighted ovum in the past I just want to see whether something is there and that it's in the right place.

Symptoms have gone wierd. The nausea has changed, lessened, but my gag reflex is super-sensitive and I had a huge wave of wanting to be sick this morning. Don't feel as tired either, during the day at least, but still wanting to be in bed by 9.

Bit nervous about the scan tomorrow although not so bad. Is it horrible to think that at least if it's gone wrong at this stage then the recovery shouldn't be too bad? Ugh. Hate my brain.
