Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Oh crikey dachs I have no idea about that and don't know what to say. What made them suspect the ectopic? I guess it is at least good news that there is one in the right place, but I really hope the ectopic fear turns out to be unfounded. Have just had a quick google of "heterotopic pregnancy", seems it used to be very rare but is more likely to happen with ivf. Apparently there is a fairly good success rate of treating the ectopic whilst allowing the intrauterine pregnancy to continue.
However, I hope it won't come to that for you. I'm sure you must be so so worried, sending virtual hugs your way.

digitalgirl · 05/09/2011 13:39

thinking of you dachs - such a rollercoaster, I really hope the scan on Thursday brings only good news. Fingers crossed for that healthy bean. xxx

Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2011 13:59

Dachs - thinking of you. As someone else said, what a rollercoaster. I know nothing about this but hope that they can shed some light for you on Thursday.

Take very good care of yourself xxx

DiffedAgainDachs · 05/09/2011 14:07

kat There is free fluid in the pelvis and a very swollen left ovary. There are also 'shadows' in some of the tissues around the ovary. The sonographer is fairly certain there is an ectopic there. My obstetrician has arranged for me to be scanned by a mate of his who is a specialist in this kind of thing. Until then I'm just going to completely mental and am not sure how I'm going to get through the next two days. I suspect much finger nibbling will occur.

LAF77 · 05/09/2011 15:14

The waiting is agonising dachs and even more so when they have given you a reason to be worried. Is it possible for the OB to see you sooner?

Moominsummermadness · 05/09/2011 16:56

Hope everything turns out okay, Dachs. Will keep everything firmly crossed for you.

Purpletoes · 05/09/2011 17:19

Dachs so sorry today didn't go to plan. Will keep everything crossed for Thursday.

LAF77 · 05/09/2011 20:53

Thanks shell I'm going to update myself on the list and go with the dates that they gave me at the last scan.

I am already freaking out about the next one, scared that they will tell me the baby died, or has something wrong. I'm trying so hard to be calm. Dinner didn't stay down tonight, and a little bit came up this morning, so hopefully, he is still in there, giving me a message not to eat anymore pesto.

thanks shellshock Smile you too. Dachs got everything crossed for you hope it all goes well and that the other twin is well

DiffedAgainDachs · 06/09/2011 09:11

My GP rang me at home late last night to tell me that they were v worried about the potential ectopic and that they wanted me to go in again this morning for a check up. Not sure what they're going to check but I'm slightly freaking out now!

kat2504 · 06/09/2011 09:17

That's good. I thought Thursday was a long time for you to be waiting in that situation. Ectopics can be dangerous if they don't deal with it in time and I guess they really want to maximise your chances of keeping the other bean safely in there. Hope it goes well this morning, I'll be thinking of you. Are they just checking up in the GP surgery or are they sending you to the EPU?

I've got my booking in this morning and am hoping to get another scan. Surely they can't make me wait for the 12 week one?

Biscuitsandtea · 06/09/2011 09:41

Just a very quick post as am on way out, but wanted to say Dachs I am really glad they could see you sooner. Hope they can make some progress for you today. Will be thinking of you xx

Good luck Kat with the booking too. I do hope they'll send you for an earlier scan - fingers crossed your m/w is sympathetic an helpful xx

Purpletoes · 06/09/2011 09:46

dachs hope you get good news today everything is still crossed. Hives an unmumsnet hug.

kat2504 · 06/09/2011 13:40

Back from booking in appointment. Early scan arranged for Thursday morning. Result! (well, let's hope it's the right result - but the not knowing is getting to me)

good luck dachs thinking of you

digitalgirl · 06/09/2011 17:19

kat glad to hear you've got a scan lined up, anyone with a history of mc really should just be given as many scans as they want. Have you had one already in this pg?

It's my scan tomorrow at 9am. First one this pg. I should be 8+2 tomorrow. Fingers just got sweaty typing that out.

kat2504 · 06/09/2011 17:21

Ooh good luck tomorrow morning! Have everything crossed for you.

I have had a scan at 61/2 ish weeks but you can't really tell much at that stage can you? I was a couple of days behind my LMP but told not to worry about that. They did see the heartbeat but said it wasn't necessary to measure it. You're right, we should have as many as we want. In fact, they should give us a portable ultrasound machine for our own home use!

digitalgirl · 06/09/2011 17:32

I purposely turned down having a scan at 6-ish weeks because of that. Also I have had a scan at 6/7 weeks before which has been fine and then gone on to MC. So for me having one that early wouldn't be reassuring. I've also had quite a few social events the last few weekends so I wanted to remain in 'ignorant bliss' for as long as possible. Would rather pretend I was pg and be hopeful than know something was wrong and have to put on a brave face. In fact, beginning to wonder if I could put off tomorrow till next week (although, think DH may just frogmarch me down to the hospital if I said that).

Completely different to how I was last time when I wanted scanning every two weeks from week 5.

kat2504 · 06/09/2011 17:40

No it wasn't reassuring for me either but I needed to have a proven live intrauterine pregnancy before they were going to start the clexane. Although I have read of some people on here who start it from bfp.

Biscuitsandtea · 06/09/2011 17:40

Kat glad the booking appt went well Smile

Good luck tomorrow Digital and Thursday Kat for your scans - will be keeping everything crossed for you both xx

Is anyone else scanning this week?

LAF77 · 06/09/2011 18:58

Thinking of you dachs how did it go this morning?

biscuits I have my 12 week scan on Friday. I'm petrified. I've never got this far in a pg and it is hard to imagine that everything could work out ok. I keep checking for bleeding every time I go to the loo.

kat and digi even though my scans have been good, the day after, I start to freak out.

My boss has given me a ton of work to do, so I don't have idle time on my hands.

Moominsummermadness · 06/09/2011 19:12

Hope it went ok today Dachs, and at least you'll know what's going on.

Good luck for tomorrow Digi, and glad that your booking went well Kat, and that they have booked you in for a scan. LAF, I'm sure everything will be fine, but I understand your anxiety!

I've had my appointment for my 12 week scan through, it's not til the 7th October so I'll be 12+5 by the early scan I had, or 13+2 by the date I'm sure I conceived! It seems ages away. Thankfully, my bleeding/spotting stopped a few days ago, but I'm still obsessively checking everytime I go to the loo. I've been feeling really sick, and the only way to deal with it is eat. I'm going to end up enormous at this rate! I went back to work yesterday, and my boss commented on my 'little bump'. I had to point out that I was just over 8 weeks pregnant, so the 'bump' had very little to do with the baby!

Biscuitsandtea · 06/09/2011 19:16

Yes, hope it was ok today Dachs

And good luck for Friday LAF - I understand your anxiety but am keeping everything crossed for you xx

DiffedAgainDachs · 06/09/2011 19:23

I had another scan today.

The person today doesn't think it's an ectopic. They think it's a burst cyst from the ovary, the shadows which were visible are the remnants of the follicles stimulated for the IVF and that the fluid which is visible in the pelvis isn't blood but perfectly normal. So all that stress for a day and a half was just a waste of energy!

Am now:
very wet as got soaked in the rain
feeling silly for all the stressing since yesterday.

Also, I feel like a complete idiot as I had to leave the house v quickly after I found out about the scan so that I could get there in time, and I was in the middle of preparing dinner and forgot to turn the gas hob off. It occurred to me after I got to the station that I may have left it on as I didn't remember turning it off, so I called the PIL as they have a spare key and asked them to check (they live about half an hour away) and it was on so I'm glad I asked! Dinner was, of course, completely burned by the time they got there!

Moominsummermadness · 06/09/2011 19:27

What a huge relief! So pleased for you. I would say that a burned dinner and inconveniencing PIL is insignificant compared to the massive weight that has been lifted off your shoulders! So pleased you were scanned today and didn't have another 2 days of worry.

kat2504 · 06/09/2011 19:30

I'm so pleased for you dachs :) :) Never mind about the burnt dinner!
